Worth the Hype -- Mikiya Wagyu Shabu is a Whole Experience
I heard through the Yelp grapevine that Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House gets packed -- we're talking 2 to 3 hour waits during peak times. And honestly? After finally trying it, I get why. This place is buzzing.
Yes, the space is small, but the moment you walk in, you're hit with the rich aroma of boiling broth -- comforting, savory, borderline intoxicating. It instantly transports you somewhere cozy in Japan. The vibe is understated, warm, and relaxed. Dim lighting, but not too dim -- just enough to see your bubbling pot and your next slice of premium wagyu.
Meat-wise, you get to pick from four tiers: Basic, Silver, Gold, and Diamond. We went with Silver, which felt like a sweet spot -- high quality without overdoing it. The seafood was fresh, no off smells or sketchy textures. The veggies? Crisp, clean, and definitely not the sad wilted kind you sometimes get elsewhere.
We tried the House broth and the Tomato -- both hit the spot. They also offer Sukiyaki and Spicy Miso if you're feeling bold. With the Silver package, you also get to pick one specialty dish. Options include Sweet Shrimp Sashimi, Foie Gras, Wagyu Nigiri (our favorite -- must try), Wagyu Tartare (meh, not bad), and Wagyu Bone Marrow (also meh).
Now let's talk service -- impeccable. Like, genuinely impressive. Water glasses never went empty. Broth got refilled before we even noticed it was low. We never had to flag anyone down -- they were just on it. Every round of meat felt perfectly timed, and even though you're limited to 90 minutes, we never felt rushed.
Bonus: You finish with a little scoop of ice cream. Because why not end on a sweet note?
Final verdict? Mikiya isn't just dinner -- it's an experience. If you can handle the wait, it's absolutely worth it. Pro tip: Go early or be prepared to snack and chill while you wait. Either way, you're in for a treat.
