"The Swedish Christmastime specialty comes in both white and red varieties ($11) at Dupont’s cozy Nordic cove. It’s one of more than half a dozen wintertime warmers available, including spiced cider and spiced chai, classic and apple cardamom hot toddies, and hot buttered bourbon ($13 each). A Nordic Coffee ($14) gets punched up with almond liqueur and topped with whipped cream." - Emily Wishingrad

Scandinavian Sweetheart Mikko Is Giving Dupont Circle a Cinnamon Roll Fix - Eater DC

"Mikko, the charming Scandinavian-style cafe opened by Finnish chef Mikko Kosonen, features Nordic food including herring and lingonberry sandwiches, pastries, and more. The cafe has been well received, with the roast beef Danish-style open-face sandwich, gravlax Danish-style open-face sandwich, and hot dog and shrimp salad sandwich being particularly popular. The venue also offers potato blinis, freshly baked cinnamon rolls, and cardamom buns for Fika, Finnish-style fish soup, and a simple yet flavorful bronzini. Google
Came for drinks and appetizers on a weekend at peak hour and we were sat outside without a wait (2 people). No frill presentation but great execution. Drinks were unique and strong while the food was immaculate and exactly what we were looking for. They split the bowl of fish soup into two smaller bowls for us without issue and the flavor of our appetizer was great. Nice lowkey spot off of DuPont that we will certainly come back to.

Everything we ordered was delicious. The food might look simple. But after first bite/sip, you know you are in good hands: fresh, quality ingredients; hearty, flavorful soup; and perfectly poached eggs for your Benedict. Yum! 😋

This place is a great option in the Logan Circle area. Nordic cuisine is certainly unique! Prices are also reasonable I’ve now had both dinner and brunch at Mikko’s and they were both delicious a little unique. However, my companion found egg shell in his Salmon Benedict. We were the only ones in the restaurant this morning and there is simply no excuse for this

First time here. It was amazing! Our server Pirjo was so kind we promised to come back with our friends. The fish soup was perfect, and the duck tacos were great too. Hope we will come back very soon.

Mikko's place is one of the few Nordic restaurants I know. Food has a lot influence from the Nordic home meals but is still fusion for DC restaurant. I just love it. Same way as I really like Chinese food in San Fransisco more than in Shanghai. Dupont athmosphere is always great and it is fun to taste seasonal specialities.

Google
We ate dinner there tonight. The food is nice, the atmosphere is OK. But the lady who was serving us was rude. She’d not respond to “thank you” at all!! At first me and my boyfriend thought maybe she didn’t know English ! But then we realized she does speak perfect English. It’s just like she does not care much and does not believe in communicating with the costumer!

Google
Nordic food is on the rise but it is pricy to fly to Copenhagen. Come by in Washington D.C and enjoy the next best approximation here. Kudos to the staff for their patience as they explained to us the different culinary options and which alcoholic drinks matched with which.

Google
A little taste of home, mostly. The little store was well stocked. I had the Shrimp Skagen and all though it was good and authentic it would have been more impressive if it had been freshly made. It had it's time in the display case. Since it turned cooler as the sun set I also tried the mushroom soup. The flavor of the soup was good. However, I was a bit disappointed it did not have any pieces of mushrooms in it. If your hankering for some Scandinavian dishes though you should try it when in DC.

Yelp
Very good food and drinks! The traditional fish soup was delicious and had huge chunks of fish in it. The French toast was amazing and the perfect portion so you didn't feel like you had eaten a whole loaf of bread. And the Smoked Salmon Benedict gave you soo much Salmon, you definitely feel like you got your moneys worth, and then some. I also loved my hot toddy, it was the perfect drink for the freezing temps outside. Heads up that the inside is a bit small but they do have seating there. They also have seating outside in a heated space!

Yelp
An OK restaurant but overpriced and not the most selections for delivery. My friend and I recently ordered a weeknight dinner takeout from Mikko on DoorDash. We wanted to order from the dinner menu but we were told it was unavailable during the week-we were only able to order from the all-day menu. This menu misses some very good-looking dishes such as the soups, rostis, lamb, and pastas. My friend and I each ordered the gravlax open-faced sandwiches. While there was a generous amount of lox, the sandwiches were very small. The sandwiches were fine, although the lox was very salty and there was nothing to balance out the salt.

Yelp
I tried Mikko with a friend on a recent business trip to Washington, D.C. We sat at the counter and enjoyed dinner. They were changing the menu. We were referred to the board at the front. Based on the experience, I would return with enthusiasm. Scandinavian cuisine is not familiar to me. There was a restaurant I went to maybe a half dozen times in San Francisco. It was excellent, located near symphony hall and the opera house. They had platters of open faced sandwiches. They perished during the pandemic. You're not supposed to mention IKEA meatballs in discussing fine dining. That is the extent of my knowledge though. I like strong flavors. So I am game for herring and the like. We had four dishes, two starters and two mains, with aquavit (they offer three labels, and I sampled all). The starters were rosti (crisply fried potato, like a high end hash brown) with mushrooms; a savory waffle with salmon; pumpkin ravioli; and cod in cheese. They were all powerful, not mild. The rosti and the waffle were sizable enough you could make a meal of the two small dishes. We were hungry. We finished everything except a couple of ravioli, which I brought home for my elderly father to have with a fried egg. This year I hope to become better as a food writer. That is a difficult genre, as is food photography. We all eat. That renders it more challenging to say something original and insightful. For now, I'm trying to take better notes. That will enable me at least to list ingredients. I'd highlight in particular the richness of the pumpkin stuffing. I believe from my reading that the pumpkins we carve for jack o'lanterns are not the same as the squash that is cooked in dishes. The space is intimate. They sell things too. They have a couple of small tables and a counter. They also have an outdoor heated parklet. I infer the restaurant is a base for a catering operation. That is said to be extensive. Both servers helped us. They were outgoing and engaging. In conclusion, Mikko is a start up that should expand. The food and the service are both commendable. I hope they will grow. Their space is more modest than their aspirations.

Yelp
On a cold January day, Mikko felt right. I've wanted to check this Nordic-Food spot out for months. Counter service is a quick way to order food and interesting to-go orders, pastries, and delicacies. I ordered the Swedish meatballs and I would say it was a great source of fuel and delicious! I chose to sit in the restaurant and had a quaint two-seater table reminiscent of being in Europe. Food came out fast and warmed me up. If you're wanting an intimate space to enjoy Nordic cuisine, definitely must try next time you're in DuPont Circle.

Yelp
Ate here on a calm warm Sunday evening with spouse and grown daughter, on her recommendation. Nordic/Danish food, reminiscent of when we visited her during her semester abroad in Copenhagen! Limited nice menu, good selection of delicious choices. All of us got traditional fish soup, the two ladies got the cream version and grilled cheese on the side. I got the clear version and an order of potato rosti with mushrooms. All Delicious, good service. Cute place, we sat in semi-enclosed area on sidewalk. Definitely recommended! ,

Yelp
Really enjoyed a recent brunch at Mikko, and they're so so close to 5-stars. As always, I appreciated the ability to make a reservation online, which my group did. We were seated on the patio. Mikko has tables both in their immediate front patio and on the sidewalk in a covered, mostly enclosed streatery tables. Not sure what the inside really looked like, but I loved the fresh air on a bright weekend day. Though, the patio tables were a little narrow. My party started with mimosas (no bottomless, but they're only $7 a pop, and that's pretty much break even for the volume of mimosas I'd normally have in a bottomless situation). We ordered a chocolate croissant and a ham and cheese pastry for the table before hand. Both were delicious and fresh. They are decently warm, but maybe 5 more seconds in the oven would have made the heat more even, but really no impact on the excellent flavor. My entree was the ham Benedict. The ham was nicely griddled and not burned, and the poached eggs were cooked to the ideal hardness. The side salad was good, but I could have done without the fruit -- maybe an option for a starchier side, like breakfast potatoes or similar. Service was friendly and quick without feeling like the staff were cutting corners or sacrificing attention to favor speed. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I have never had Scandinavian food before, so Mikko's been on my list to try. My friend and I made a reservation for dinner yesterday. The interior is a bit small (a few 2-seaters and some bar seats). They also do happy hour every day from 4-7 PM, so this doesn't only apply to alcoholic drinks but also includes soups, too! TRADITIONAL FISH SOUP (WITH CLEAR BROTH) - 11 Normally it's 14, but the HH pricing was 11. Also, +5 for grilled cheese. The bowl was pretty big (larger than 16 oz. portion, I think) and filled with salmon. I was surprised by the amount of salmon in here, which was tender and not overly fishy. The clear broth was light and well-seasoned with herbs, definitely very comforting and perfect for a chilly October evening. There was also a good amount of potatoes, onions, carrots, and celery in here. This was good and I'd recommend. The grilled cheese had some thin rye bread that hit the spot and filled me up. It's not anything crazy and very much something you can make at home. My friend got the crawfish soup, which she enjoyed. I've heard good things about their brunch, so I'll have to return one day. Their other dinner options also look good, so I will try a small plate or bigger dinner plate next time.

Yelp
Lovely neighborhood Finnish restaurant. Enjoyed both breakfast and lunch dishes while staying at a hotel around the corner. The food is fresh and delicious with fast friendly service!

Yelp
Such a wonderful hole in the wall. Had the split pea soup with ham and added on a grill cheese with ham. Seriously delicious as the sandwich was awesome and the split pea was the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
The person working behind the desk did not know what was in the sandwiches. The bagel was stale from being refrigerated for too long, the coffee was cold and weak, the fish soup was microwaved and lacked flavor. For the price, I would expect more.

Yelp
Unusual Nordic place in DuPont. I got a tasty mocktail (a lot of people enjoying beer), Alexander cake (a bit too sweet for me), and a very flavorful tuna salad on bread. My friend enjoyed the duck. We both were happily surprised by place & plan to return. Friendly environment, good food. Definitely try it!

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood! Great food and friendly atmosphere. The inside space is quite small but plenty of outdoor space on a nice day!

Yelp
The chicken schnitzel with capers I've got was absolutely delicious, the side fries was so crunchy I loved it. I think it's the danish version of the classical German dish, but I thought it would be more typical danish if it were using veal (?) instead chicken(?) Pastries-- I have very mixed feelings. My friend and I got there pretty late for dinner, so after food when we asked I can still take a look at the pastries, they were taking them out of the wrappers. The cinnamon roll and cardamom bun that I got look a bit different (and burnt) from my impression of what they should look like --tasted okay. Karelian pie was interesting but a bit bland. But then again I haven't been to Scandinavian countries yet, so it's just my humble opinion. And I will update this review once visit Oh. Please use the bug spray when sitting outside, I had so many mosquito bites I nearly died.

Yelp
Back for another review of Mikkos, Still an amazing little place with the most quality of items. The salmon eggs Benedict was the best I've ever had anywhere. The salmon is house made and so good and the egg was perfectly poached. Swedish pancakes are so delicious. Happy hour is great, with $4 off their excellent cocktails. The Nordic mimosa was really good. The bean, prosciutto, and arugula salad appetizer was also delicious.

Yelp
It is rare to come across nordic cuisine! Mikko is a very cute restaurant tucked away in the heart of DuPont Circle and perfect for a girls hangout or brunch! They have separate weekday lunch, weekend brunch, and dinner menus. Covered outdoor seating available and reservations through OpenTable.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food. Had the seared salmon and it was so moist with a nice crisp on top. Also tried the meatballs and the pita and hummus and it was all delicious. Now I want to go back and try everything! The people at the next table got the fish and chips and it smelled so good - I'll definitely try that next! Price-wise, considering how much we got, it was very reasonable.

Yelp
Cute little shop with a great big menu with everything looking delish! Also love the finnish candies they have there, the chocolate fudge mints were delicious. Will be back!

Yelp
First international stop on our Trip Around the World Staycation! Shop has a nice variety of Scandinavian treats and gifts including Moomin mugs. Seating is outside either just outside of the restaurant (wall opens up to reveal countertop) or in their covered dining area closer to the street. Food was exquisite. It is hard to name a favorite. We enjoyed bratwurst, Swedish meatballs, and the seared salmon lunches. Salads were fresh and dressed perfectly. Salmon couldn't have been more perfect, amazing flavor and seared to perfecThe bratwurst was the best I've had in a while and not overdone in the least. We also enjoyed the mustard served with it. The Swedish meatballs were perfect ... absolutely nothing like IKEA. So glad to have found a place for amazing Scandinavian food. We will definitely return, especially for brunch! Can't wait!

Yelp
This is a lovely little cafe/restaurant. When we went it was balmy and sitting in the outdoor seating felt good. they were running a special on Long Drink, which is a citrusy canned cocktail that is popular in Finland. I ordered the smoked salmon w poached egg open faced sandwich, which was tasty, though my friend's Gravlax one was better from the morsel he let me have. The deserts were lovely as well and you can go in and pick them out by how much they entice you with their appearance.

Yelp
I went to Mikko right after landing in DC. I needed somewhere to sit and grab a bite for a bit before meeting up with friends. This was the only "coffee shop" type spot that was open at 8:30PM on a Wednesday, but when I arrived, I was surprised by how busy it was! Granted, it was a nice night and they have a great patio in DuPont Circle. It appears to be first come first serve on patio spots, but I wasn't too sure how it worked. Luckily a waitress saw me confused with luggage and seated me (but I don't think they would normally do this, lol). I was super intrigued by everything on the menu and made a mental note to come back when I want a bigger meal -- the risotto sounded fantastic as did the gnocchi. I ended up ordering a cappuccino (unsure on price -- $4?) and it was foamy, warm (not too hot!) and delicious. For my entree, I ordered the mushroom soup ($12). I wasn't sure if I would regret this decision -- I wouldn't say I'm a *huge* fan of mushrooms, but I sent it...And I cannot emphasize how soul-warmingly perfect this soup was. It was rich but not heavy, with rich umami flavor -- leaving me wanting more. I couldn't get enough of the crunchy dried mushrooms on top. In retrospect, I am kicking myself for not getting the grilled cheese but such is life. I also didn't get dessert because I would be eating with friends, but would definitely come back after seeing their pastry display inside while I paid for my meal at the counter. Overall, Mikko was amazing. The service was great (they offered blankets to diners!) and the food was even better. Great for warm nights shared with friends -- like you're being transported to a European cafe!

Ivan D.

Yelp
My rating = 65 (food 49/75, ambiance 3/10, service 13/15). Lisa's rating = 70. Neighborhood cafe and grocery serving pretty good Scandinavian food (mostly, there were curries and gnocchi and schnitzel, too) on card tables by the curb of R street. We had: 1. Nordic Old Fashioned (made with aquavit, a potato-based liqueur) 2. Assortment of herring 3. Monkfish stew* 4. Chicken schnitzel 5. Potato gnocchi* 6. Alexander cake* 7. Lingonberry bread pudding 8. Date cake * = my favorites

Ryan S.

Yelp
The cocktails are pretty much the only redeeming aspect of the menu. They were quite good and reasonably priced, especially during happy hour. The Arancini starter was also good. But the dinner entrees were literally TV dinner-quality. The veggies and fries that came with the schnitzel were barely seasoned at all and tasted straight from a Trader Joe's freezer bag. And the "schnitzel" itself was just a panko-crusted chicken tender. The crab cake was decent on its own, but again nothing notable (they also forgot the aioli). The food was vastly overpriced for the quality that you get, and none of it seems made to order--all prepped in advance and warmed in a microwave, which a restaurant shouldn't even have, let alone rely on.

Yelp
Mikko: nested in a quiet DuPont circle residential neighborhood, the tiny colorful Nordic restaurant is more like a next door delicatessen. I haven't been able to travel outside the US for two years, so I decided to try world cuisine to whet my globe trotting appetite. I went to Mikko before noon, so it was quiet. The service was courteous but felt cold. The menu was written on a blackboard. The lunch prices were pretty reasonable. There were some prepared salads and bakery items at the counter. I decided to try 4*Bratwurst: the aroma of the fried sausage floated through my face mask; it was very good. The accompanying salad was fresh and clean, the honey mustard sauce was light. Also came with a big chunk of potato salad. Overall it was a simple but good lunch. There were lots of Nordic snacks. Not all prices were marked but most were pricey. I bought some, including 5*a tube of Kalles creamed smoked roe. It reminded me of Iceland where I had my first taste of roe years ago. 5*Canned Cod liver: I loved it - the texture and taste reminded me of Foi Gras, but it's not for everyone. 4*A loaf of house made seven-seed bread at $9: plain but healthy. I cut a few slices and put smoked roe and cod liver on top, perfect combinations. 4* Freia milk chocolate with chopped hazelnut: made in Norway, sweet and crunchy. 3*Geisha: a box of Finland milk chocolate with soft hazelnut filling. It contains 21 tiny wrapped pieces of chocolate candies. The flavor was light, hazelnut was unnoticeable. I think I could get similar stuff at cheaper prices.

Yelp
The nicest, most friendly team of hosts / hostesses, waiters, and chefs you'd ever want to meet. If you'd like to sample authentic Nordic cuisine, there is no need to jet off to Norway, or Sweden, or other Scandinavian countries. Just get to Washington DC -- get here now -- and immerse yourself in the Scandinavian experience that is Mikko's!

Yelp
I've been wanting to check-out Mikko for a long time and I am so glad I finally did. I love the casual, European café feel. The staff is lovely and the food was delicious. You can also pick up your favorite Nordic snacks in the grocery section. I couldn't leave without taking home a few cardamom buns for breakfast tomorrow!

Yelp
In a word, this place is eclectic. There's a lot going on and it's a fun spot. It's been adding to its core business since its opening, in 2018. The menu is Scandinavian focused however if you aren't into Nordic cuisine, you'll still be okay because there's plenty of familiar continental foods for everyone's taste buds. I appreciate the "shop" and "bakery" (my quotation marks) that Mikko offers along with his restaurant. I can get imported lingonberry jam, dark breads and other prepared Nordic and European foods for my pantry (I'm Norwegian-American). The rhubarb-sour cream tart that's baked in-house is to die for, BTW. Just look at the display case and pick out some goodie that's made from scratch to take home; you really can't go wrong. I spoke with Chef Mikko one afternoon just recently as he was creating a myriad of plated foods, in the prep area behind the eat-in counter, found in the rear of the space. He's a hard worker, always trying to improve, conscientious of the local scene in which he has placed himself, wanting to please his customers. Candidly, I'm just happy this Nordic eatery is here. "Mange Takk", Chef Mikko.

Yelp
Finnish flavors in a quieter off street in Northwest DC! Finding true Scandinavian food is a rarity in the United States, and Mikko has it! When I arrived on a weekday evening I was not sure I had found the right place--Reggae music was blaring onto a patio. But yes, this was Mikko. The inside has an aura of an informal city deli. You can peer into the kitchen toward the back and see a few fellows working hard. After a few minutes, I was greeted at the register. After a few questions, I decided to order the Fish Burger. I sat outside and water was brought to me in a pleasantly European glass bottle. After about 10 minutes, my fish burger arrived... I started with the accompanying French Fries, which were not made in house and were rather average. More like filler. Then for the moment of truth--I sunk my teeth through a whole grain bun into the fish. It had a consistency remarkably similar to a beef hamburger. Dense, slithery, and firm yet soft. It was warm but not hot. Not greasy. The combination of white fish and cod struck was potent and somewhat fishy. Yet it was flavorful and good. An Omega-3 rich burger. More natural than Beyond Meat, and more healthy than beef. The onion and lettuce helped make the burger. There's tarter sauce too if you need it. All in all, a unique, fun, neighborhood experience. Let's grant more immigration visas to Scandinavians--Americans stand to benefit from their pescatarian diet and friendly cooking!

Yelp
Delicious food, lovely ambiance, and friendly staff! This was my first time trying Nordic food, so I have to admit that I'm probably not the best judge of its quality or authenticity...even so, I was thoroughly satisfied by my meal here, and Mikko offered a great introduction to a new cuisine. We came here to celebrate a friend's 22nd birthday in summer 2021. Her family immigrated from Norway, so she has a special affinity to all things Nordic, and Mikko has been her favorite spot since coming to DC (and being deprived of her family's own Nordic cooking). From her recommendations, I decided to try the shrimp salad skagen open-face sandwich! The shrimp salad was served on multigrain toast with dill and a bit of lemon, and it was incredible. It was amazingly flavorful, yet simultaneously light and refreshing. All of the ingredients were remarkably fresh, and the simple presentation and dish allowed all of their natural flavors (and high quality!) to shine. I also bought one of their cardamom buns with lingonberry jam to try for breakfast the next morning, and it was delightful as well. Beyond the amazing food, Mikko's overall ambiance is incredible. We ended up eating outside because of the ongoing pandemic, but their outdoor seating is adorable. I only stepped inside briefly to wash my hands in the restroom, but the interior decoration is also incredibly homey and sweet. The service is also impeccable -- it's speedy and thorough, and the servers are all incredibly kind. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The Trout taco was fine...tho I wouldn't use Mexican salsa on a Scandinavian dish... but I was expecting a more sit down establishment and this is more of a Cafe than a true restaurant. Staff were very nice tho.

Yelp
Delicious Nordic food, very friendly service, and cozy ambience. Best fish soup I've ever had.

Yelp
Mikko was awesome. Very great drinks and very good food. I had the smoked butternut squash soup with the grilled cheese and it was delicious. Get the Finnish Summer Cocktail. The employees were super kind, helpful and accommodating. Colorful place with colorful chairs and tables and very well lit.

Yelp
Excellent fish soup with salmon/cod. Good flavor and simple! Although more potatoes then fish:) Excellent latte as well. Got cod liver to go! I hear Gravlax with smoked salmon is good as well may be next time! Thanks again!

Yelp
Lunch with a friend. Our first time at Mikko. Service was easy. The outside patio was lovely. The menu was easy on the eye. I had the vegetable soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. The broth for the soup was amazing! Not too light, not to heavy. The sandwich was a perfect accompany. Looking forward to returning and exploring the menu.

Jesilynn N.

Yelp
Amazing food! Small, quaint, quiet! It is a very cozy place! I highly recommend! I went in for mushroom soup and was not let down. I asked for an off menu item (Espresso Martini) and they were more than accommodating.

Yelp
Very cute place! The patio was nice, with the breeze I felt a bit vacation-y! The server was kind and checked on us even though she was busting her ass! The French Sauvignon Blanc was nice and a generous pour. I could only eat half of the yummy Swedish meatballs but my twelve year old took care of the leftovers stat! I also bought some cute chocolate bunnies for the baskets! (12 and even 24 still enjoy a visit from the bunny)!

Yelp
Ever since I returned from a trip to Sweden, I've been on the lookout for Nordic / Scandinavian food in the city - and thankfully, I found Mikko! The colors of their seating remind me of a primary school playground but it's a cute little cafe/resto, and the food and drink offerings are great. They have everything from bratwurst to lingonberry bread pudding (which I highly recommend if you're into sweet brunch plates). Bonus point is they do happy hour, even on weekends, starting at 3pm. $5 off of cocktails, can't remember what it was for beers and wine (?) but probably something like $2-$3 off. They also sell products like Swedish candy, mustard, etc.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
Great place, even better food. The soup was amazing. Perfect place to stop for a good, simple meal

Yelp
Had a delicious dinner here recently. Food was delicious, inexpensive, and the service was excellent! We were a party of 9 and it's a small place and the only tables large enough were outside. The weather wasn't bad but that would have been nice to know when I made the reservation. I'll definitely be back.

Paul M.

Yelp
The food is great. The space is pretty small to try to eat in, but I definitely enjoyed the meal.

Yelp
I've walked past this restaurant a million times and decided to finally try it last night. The front & outdoor seating is so cute and the menu is very unique. I split 2 "small plates" ($10 each) with my friend-- the shrimp skagen with potato rosti & the herring plate. Both are SMALL-- I would recommend getting your own appetizers versus sharing since they taste so good and are so tiny. For entrees, I ordered the mushroom pasta (very creamy & salty). My friend ordered the lamb burger. We both enjoyed our food and will come back! Next time, I will probably order more of the small plates and then split an entree with someone.

Yelp
Stopped by Mikko on a whim a while back for brunch and was super pleased with the experience! Firstly a solid place for a solo brunch, something I'm always looking for as someone who finds myself on a lot of long coffee and food fueled solo walks around town. Secondly, I'm a huge lover of Scandinavian pastries so I was super stoked to find a place in town with my favorite type of cinnamon and cardamom buns! I also got the short rib Benedict that day and quite enjoyed it! Will say a hair pricey but it is in the dupont/Logan circle area so that is to be expected. Definitely need to stop by again to try more of their pastry selection!

Yelp
Couldn't decide, so I ordered the Swedish pancakes with eggs and bratwurst on the side. Delicious! Cute spot and friendly service for Sunday brunch. Don't forget to order some pastries to go.

Yelp
Tried out Mikko via TooGoodToGo (an app that helps decrease food waste!) Through our surprise bag, we got to try their chicken lasagna, meatloaf with gravy and BBQ ribs. Chicken lasagna was EXCELLENT! Meatloaf was amazing as well, just like ikea meatballs in meatloaf form. Ribs was a bit dry but tasted decent. Honestly, I would totally come back to try their other dishes! Fish soup and all these sandwiches in the fridge looked delicious too! but ya, extra stars for fighting food waste and partnering with apps like TooGoodToGo!!

Yelp
Mikko is the restaurant I go to the most in DC! I love the quality, authenticity and unique Swedish dishes they serve! Food Fish Soup My favorite dish hands down is their fish soup! They serve it with salmon and cod, I think, so it's yummy. The broth is light and has some dill flavor without it being fishy or anything. They serve it with rye bread and butter, or you can upgrade for a grilled cheese. This soup definitely got me through a cold winter quarantining in DC! Swedish Meatballs Their Swedish meatballs are well-made and flavorful - you can see some onions in the filling. They come with a side salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, as well as traditional lingonberry sauce! Perfect comfort meal when you just want a food coma! Salmon Quiche I love their salmon quiche - it's filling, just the right amount of salty and well-made. It rivals other French restaurants in the area, for sure! Meat Pie The meat pies are a bit garlicky and nice and filling. I love getting them when I'm craving something substantive Dessert and Pastries Cardamon Bun I always grab a cardamon bun - it reminds me of my travels through Scandinavia when you need a hot tea with a bun to get through a rainy day. It's nice with some jam and butter. Rhubarb Tarte I loved the tartness of their rhubarb tarte. The filling is not too sour, but it does balance out the sweetness of the dough. I felt like it was perfect for an afternoon tea with friends! Service and Ambiance They're always so nice and friendly. I usually call in to order pick up and they always let me know how long it will take. We've also done eat in dining before the pandemic and their seating is really cute. So glad they've opened up outdoor seating for the spring/summer! It's the perfect weather to enjoy that. Final Verdict I LOVE Mikko - it's definitely quality comfort food, but they also serve good salads and great coffee, lattes, tea and drinks! Bonus is their colorful ambiance, eclectic mix of Scandinavian chocolates and friendly service.

Yelp
At Mikko, you pay for customer service and ambience. The food, not so much. I came here last weekend, and I really enjoyed how the hostess was able to explain the menu to me and told me it was open seating, so I could sit anywhere. I opted to sit on the patio as it was a sunny day, the weekend before the end of the summer. The menu was diverse, a bit steep, but I decided on the bratwurst and eggs. It took 15 minutes for my food to come out, the norm, and the food was good- crisp bratwurst, fresh arugula sald, refreshing fruits, warm eggs, but it was missing the mark for something that cost over $15. I wanted something that had a little bit more technique in being made and wasn't so cookie cutter. Other places in the area are priced a little bit less. I also wish I got more of a taste of Nordic food. I am not sure if I would come here again, but I would urge anyone else to visit once. Nice quaint place, overpriced food. They provide Nordic food, which is niche.

Yelp
I was so excited to find a place to get my favorite Nordic foods from! I visited the store and expected prices to be higher due to having to import products. The prices are high with being about as much as it would be to buy the products online, but the convenience of not having to ship the product is there. I was thoroughly disappointed after my experience of asking to buy a container of glögi. The woman said that they did not sell containers, but she could grab me a cup. I was craving glögi so much that I said that would be perfect. She then asked if I wanted vodka included or not. I said no alcohol three different times during the purchasing of the product. I also never had my ID checked during the process to confirm if I was old enough for alcohol. She went away and brought out the beverage. I took one sip and immediately knew that there was alcohol in it. I kindly said that it tasted like alcohol and asked if I could have another without the vodka. She said she did not remember adding anything in and could not switch it so I walked away with my alcoholic glögi. I was so concerned by my mistake that I had two friends also take sips and everyone agreed that there was alcohol. A bummer situation because I was excited to go back until this experience.

Yelp
Great food and nice service, but there is a bit of a bee problem in the summertime.

Yelp
Very quaint little store. Definitely unique flavors that I haven't come across before. Came for brunch, but worth coming back in the evening to try more of the dinner items.

Yelp
Would go back! Had such good conversation I forgot to really savor the pancakes. Everything looked good, so there's definitely more to try. Service could've been a bit better - felt like we waited for the bill for a while
