A Beloved Baltimore Scoop Shop Busts Into D.C. — And More Openings - Eater DC

"Old Forte Village Shopping Center welcomed an all-day Southern brunch spot with the debut of Milk & Honey earlier this month. Thompson Restaurants’ 13th Milk & Honey outpost to date serves a New Orleans-leaning lineup from chef Sammy Davis. Highlights include shrimp and grits, Cajun shrimp pasta, and berries and cream French toast, along with salads, huge sandwiches, and decadent desserts. The 28-seat spot is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m." - Tierney Plumb

Google
This was my first time trying Milk & Honey at this location, and I ordered the catfish and grits. It was excellent—definitely a 10 out of 10! I also had the shrimp pasta, which was flavorful, especially when paired with the strawberry biscuits. Overall, the food was fantastic, and the customer service was outstanding. The manager, Nick, personally brought us our food and checked in to make sure everything was great. I will definitely be coming back to try something new, and I encourage others to give it a try as well.

The food is 10/10! The cashier Laila is super sweet and awesome at her job! I also had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Nick the general manager and he is so sweet and the customer service from everyone there was immaculate! I went two days in a row the food was so good 🥹 the first day I had chicken and sweet potato waffles which was amazing but the second day I had the fried catfish and grits and that was chef’s kiss 😮‍💨🤌🏾😘 my mom had the shrimp and grits and I got a taste of that too and it was so good 😭 If you are in the area check them out! You will not be disappointed!

Google
The Fried Green Tomatoes. I couldn't get enough. I've only had them one other time, so I haven't had them a great deal. I will WALK to get these. The entire setup was outstanding. The catfish was fried too perfection, seasoned perfectly. The sweet potatoes were but👏🏿ter👏🏿ryyyyyyy! The macaroni and cheese were good, too. My only complaint is that since greens are the only vegetable on the menu that running out is a problem. They ran out of greens around 5 pm. Overall, excellent meal. I'll be back. 👍🏾👍🏾

Update: 20 March 2025 I posted this review and there hasn't been any feedback from the owner but those who have rated this establishment higher have received remarks. This is exactly what I mean with fixing your customer service, respect the customers that are brutally honest and own your mistakes. The need to open location after location and not addressing discrepancies and earning a repeat customer is laughable. 28 Feb 2025: Let me start by saying I’ve eaten here 2x in the last year or so, so I do not come here enough to know what’s really on their menu. I arrived here at 6:45pm Feb 28th and was instructed to order at the kiosk which I did. On the kiosk ordering “The Traditional” stated it comes with a lobster tail on top of hash. I included scrambled eggs with cheese and turkey bacon, with a biscuit and grits. What was I served everything I mentioned above, minus the lobster tail and hash. I brought this issue to their attention, and I stated I was fine with not having the lobster tail and just the hash even though that’s what was advertised, and they wouldn’t accommodate my request. Will not be returning period and requested a refund. The manager didn’t even come out to speak to me about it but stayed in the kitchen on his phone. Of course, I still had to pay for my 20-ounce soda…$4.25. Fix your menu and your customer service.

Google
I had the crab cakes Benedict and it tasted like something you’d get at a fancy hotel restaurant. The flavors were so savory. We also got the milk and honey lattes that were so so good.

Food has never been a staple in this community (I should know- born and raised here) and I’m pleased to have such an establishment to elevate it that’s not part of the MGM enterprise. First time dining in and really enjoyed the atmosphere, let alone the service. We were a family of 7 coming from a local sport tournament and the (2) young ladies behind the counter couldn’t have been more patient, kind, welcoming, and engaging! Finally, some good customer service you can shout to the masses about! Even the chef/cook came out from the kitchen to say hello and welcome in! The place, including the bathroom was very clean. The breakfast sandwich is huge and filling and perfect for sharing- loved the honey on the biscuit, the shrimp and grits were perfect tasty and cooked perfection. The side of grits and cheesy scrambled eggs were delicious. The catfish grits and fried green tomato was a great portion for the price(one more tomato though would have been appreciated lol!) thanks for bringing quality food and service to the area- please keep it up!

Google
The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. Nick and Leila shared their recommendations with me and I ended up trying the Cajun pasta with shrimp and crab. It was very tasty and will be returning to try other options!

Yelp
I'm a brunch girly so nothing makes me happier that they built this milk and honey in the area!!! I come to this particular location at least twice a month Layla the cashier/server is phenomenal. She is so sweet and funny. I have come by myself and come with a huge group and she always takes care of my needs with a huge smile. I've also gotten the chance to meet the manager Patrick on a couple different occasions and every single time he is super accommodating he never complains or thinks the orders are overly complicated, which is great when dealing in customer service. Also, I do not know the names of the cooks in the back, but let me tell you I have NEVER had a bad order! The food is hot and fresh every single time and so freaking good!!

Yelp
Tooooo salty my God! The Cajun pasta. The cashier was very patient with us at the near closing time. There was a mixup with our order but we didn't make a fuss about the $5 lost. Nice and clean inside. Not encouraged to return.

Yelp
They do not accommodate for people with allergies. I wanted to order the Cajun Shrimp Pasta without shrimp. They mentioned they are able to make the pasta without the shrimp but could not substitute it for any other meat. I asked for extra chicken or simply extra sausage and they gave no other option other than to have to pay for the extra meat, even if I was not getting shrimp. Extremely unprofessional. Hope they fix that issue and provide better customer service to those with allergies.

Yelp
Me and my mother came here on a Friday morning for a brunch. There was only one family dining in the dining room and there was no line to order. This is the express location so it is not the traditional restaurant set up. However this was some of the best food I've had in a loooong time. I ordered chicken and sweet potato waffles with a side of cheesy hashbrowns. Now the pricing if still restaurant pricing. I paid about $30 for my meal however , I had plenty to take home. The sweet potato waffles came with a sweet caramel bourbon sauce to act as a syrup and paired perfectly. The waffles were moist and fluffy and actually would have been perfect with the sauce. The wings were thick and saucy, very sticky as well. Very good wings and seasoned well. The hash-browns were pretty good and came with cheese and green onions. The inside is very appealing and I would love to come back here again. The manager was also very kind in checking on us promptly after we received our food.

Yelp
Catfish sandwich was on point. Small spot, which it was more a restaurant. Prices crazy, but not cheap. Good people working. Service was quick.

Yelp
Food was great! And food came quick and piping hot. I split the Cajun shrimp pasta, Berries & Cream French toast and crispy salmon hash with family. Everything was amazing and uniquely crafted! I highly recommend.

Yelp
As several have stated the cleanliness factor is out of the ball park. So clean you'd think people don't eat here. When I entered there was 1 customer and a young lady behind the registers. The menu is on the wall. They also have QR code menus. I am super basic when it comes to breakfast. I just wanted 2 pieces of french toast and milk. This is without a doubt the best French Toast I have ever had. I was full after one piece and devoured the second. I should be ashamed of my gluttonous nature but in my defense this truly is the best I have ever had. I look forward to coming here again and checking out lunch and dinner items.

Yelp
It's my birthday I'll have fish if I want to! I ordered at the counter to a friendly waitress. It was a Sunday morning before/after church vibe, but quiet. I love the bar stools by the window. Private yet still inside. Catfish-hot, fresh out the grease! You get about 5 long strips for $15. I get it as a side because I don't want it touching other food :) Of all the options I had for a bday breakfast, this was my #1 choice! When I saw they'd upgraded their tartar sauce it was like confetti from the ceiling! Made my day. My recommended meal to all is a side of catfish with a side of cheesy grits with a side of the creamy sauce from the shrimp and grits dish. You're welcome! I only eat the crispy corners of my fish while there and bring the rest home for some ketchup and white bread

Yelp
Ordered takeout and it was quick and easy. Portions are large! Shrimp and grits was gigantic and super filling, shrimp was well seasoned, grits cooked well but couldve used a bit more sauce. Really could split across 3 meals... It was pretty heavy. The hot honey wings were okay -- would've liked a little crisp; the skin was a bit tough. The deep fried biscuit dessert was interesting!! Never had anything like it, really liked the cream cheese frosting and strawberries. Again a bit on the heavier side but makes for a good pre-nap meal.

Yelp
Was in the area and noticed the restaurant. They serve New Orleans style cuisine and I am fan of that style of food. Decided to give it a try. I was greeted upon arrival and helped immediately. The cashier was very professional and helpful in assisting in making my selection. The vibe is very quiet however there is music playing which was very nice. I selected the chef's special shrimp and grits. It was very savory and delicious. If in the area I would definitely stop by again.

Yelp
They charge WAAAAYYY TOO MUCH but eh... the food it's good every time and the servers are always really polite and nice.

Yelp
My husband and I spent the day walking around Fort Washington Park and were going to stop at Subway for dinner. A last minute change to Milk & Honey gave us an absolutely delicious meal. I had the catfish and grits and he had the salmon hash. Both arrived piping hot and full of flavor. The portions were big. The counter staff was courteous and helpful. They came out to check if we were happy with our food and to refill our drinks. The manager later cleared our plates when we were finished and chatted with us. We thoroughly enjoyed Sunday dinner and we will be returning.

Yelp
This newly opened restaurant is super cute! The decor is very comforting and overall aesthetic is nice, the ceiling is a craftsmanship. My husband and I got the shrimp and grits, the chicken wings and sweet potato waffles, honey butter biscuit and cheesy potato hash. Everything was so good, the cheesy potato hash could've been a little bit less peppery, but it was still good! The chicken wing flavor we got was the hot honey and lemon pepper, and the flavor was incredible! The sweet potato waffles were so flavorful and soft! The honey butter biscuits - the butter on them were amazing, and the biscuits were just so soft! The staff were very nice and sweet, and they definitely were patient! Will def be coming back here to try other menu items, there's some other desserts that I def want to try!

Yelp
This place it small but super clean and the service staff was super nice and welcoming, the food was very tasty. I love my shrimp and grits it's my go to favorite. The chicken was super delicious and moist. Crab cake was good but slightly salty. Definitely a go to spot !!

Yelp
Oh my goodness, what a delightful surprise! This place is an absolute gem. The food is nothing short of spectacular, with biscuits that are simply out of this world--hands down, the best in town. My friend and I stopped by for a quick bite and were blown away by how flavorful everything was. I had a breakfast biscuit so generously sized that I had leftovers! Despite the small, cozy interior & the food arrived incredibly fast, making it all worth it. If you're looking for an amazing biscuit experience, be ready to either grab and go or wait for a seat--it's worth every moment. I can't wait to come back and explore the rest of the menu!

Yelp
My husband got the grits and Salmon he said the grits were not seasoned and the grits were watery runny my son got the chicken waffles he said they were ok at best he's 15 btw I got the hash browns they were ok the French toast was good fyi I dnt eat seafood so everything non seafood was separated price wise very expensive and not worth it would not go back we would not go back. The restaurant was clean the place is nice the quality of the food was good but the execution and seasoning we were not feeling it.

Yelp
Great service, pretty small menu. Got the French toast & berries which was pretty tasty but 2 slices and a couple of veggies didn't really make it worth $14+. Double check and ask for butter and syrup if you use that with French toast.

Yelp
When I entered the dining room was immaculately clean, I was greeted with friendliness, and my meal was absolutely delicious. I will be back.

Yelp
Superb Service Above and Beyond customer service Food was amazing Atmosphere neat and clean spotless. Will be dining in next time

Yelp
If you are looking for great food and customer service this is your spot. Been here 3 times now and they always delivered. Most importantly, it is always clean.

Yelp
I placed an order to go - crispy salmon hash for myself and the lump crab hash for my mom. The flavors were okay however there was more cheese than potatoes and too much sauce made the entree look very messy. The service was great!

Pamela J.

Yelp
Customer Service & Food is great & environment is clean.. I would recommend everyone to dine in or take out.

Yelp
I was super excited once I found out a milk and honey was opening near my home. So once I noticed they opened I brought my family to give them a try. Despite being newly opened and still ironing out some kinks, the staff were working hard (3 people total I noticed) with the multiple rushes I witnessed while dining in, however they stayed friendly and professional . While the menu may not be entirely accurate, things on their menu are not available or not stated correctly, I still say give theme black owned business a chance. The space is compact yet nicely decorated, it's an ideal spot for takeout being in the prefect location. The food itself was good, making it a worthwhile choice for those craving a delicious mea, oh yeah they serve breakfast food all day but no alcoholic drinks are served. With a bit more time to settle in, Milk and Honey has the potential to become a go-to destination in the area.

Yelp
The new location didn't disappoint. The food was amazing. The nice quaint vibe and ambiance was stellar. The customer service was excellent. I will definitely be visiting there again.

Yelp
I ordered the wings and sweet potato waffles which were pretty good. Inside the restaurant itself, it was clean and inviting and had a chill ambiance. I will definitely go there again, but I'll eat in next time as I ordered food to takeaway.

Yelp
Great food, my favorite is the fish and grits or shrimp and grits and I love the cheese cake. It's worth every penny. Yummy for our tummy

Fred H.

Yelp
Ordering was easy and it did not take long to prepare the food. The server Patrick greeted us and made us felt he valued our business. The food was hot, fresh and plenty. Will definitely be back! Domo

Yelp
Milk honey is good. It's a good place to have brunch, but the food is not always a good temperature and some of the stuff you can actually make yourself at home. It's a nice place to go hang out with your friend and have a brunch and talk.

Patricia H.

Yelp
Went to the new Milk and Honey in Swann Creek. Had to wait at least ten or 20 minutes for someone to come from the kitchen to take my order. I order the catfish dinner and crab cake sandwich. Originally, I wanted the shrimp po'boy sandwich, but they were out of shrimp. Catfish dinner was ok the meal was hot. Crab cake was salty (not lump crab meat). I had to wait for 20 minutes. They called me on my cell phone to say order was ready. I might give them another try.

Regina M.

Yelp
Food was very good , we had the shrimp and grit, also chicken and pasta. The desserts were not that great. But I would eat there again .

Deanna T.

Yelp
Hands down the best food in Ft. Washington, MD! These sweet potato waffles and wings ! Salmon hash and crab hash is out of control !

Monique C.

Yelp
I went to Milk & Honey one of the first days it was open. My food was good! I had wings and French toast. The service was also good. The man behind the counter was very kind and interactive with my chatty toddler and our food came out in a reasonable timeframe. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Very nice new business for dining in and take out. Compliments to the very busy kitchen for quality tasty dishes well executed and plated. The cafe is cute, small number of tables and window bar stools set up for single dinners. Front of the house services still need work as staffs gain experience dealing with fast pace customer needs on busy weekends for this dining concept of semi service. They need to set out a self served water station, supplies like utensils, napkins, take home boxes, etc. to ease workload and improve efficiencies on busy times. If you have no real waiters, and guests ordered and pay ahead concept, then put out the basics for self service would be best instead of this model where guests have to go back to the counter for anything like water, condiments, more food order, takeout boxes, etc. Price is slightly high for this type of service and their payment system expects 15, 20, 22 percent tip? Even though, I really like the food a lot, I have to think twice before coming back for more unless they improve their front of the house process for a bill of nearly $70 for brunch for two in a small cafe like service. Hope they continue to do well with some improvement on services for those busy times.

Gloria B.

Yelp
wasn't impressed. food smelled good but chicken wings were hard and dry and ever time I bit into the wing the bones were cracked creating sharp bones in my mouth. the two biscuits were good but $6 for two biscuits is over priced especially since they're on the same order as Popeyes or McDonalds and you can get a lot more biscuits for that amount. I am so glad I didn't get the Buffalo chicken salad because who pays $18 for a salad with some chicken nuggets . if you're hungry and it's the only thing open and you have a few dollars to throw away have at it.

Yelp
I was happy that a Milk & Honey location was opening in Fort Washington since I normally travel to the Virginia location. I was greatly disappointed that I waited almost an hour for my order to be completed correctly. Since my undergrad is an aspect of Restaurant and Hospitality services, I try to always be fair when visiting restaurants and eateries and not be over critical. I am also a foodie and have an impeccable palate. For some reason after waiting for 20 minutes, they called out my name but when I checked the bag, it was only my order in it. This is when the disappointment began. Somehow only one dish was made although my receipt displayed that there were two dishes paid for. I had to wait an additional 32 minutes to finally receive the Smothered Chicken dish. When I was picking it up I realized that this first dish was cold. Most restaurants will make a fresh order, but my chicken sandwich sat on the shelf for almost an hour. I mentioned this to the cashier and she sighed with an attitude. After returning to the car, I decide to take a picture and make a phone call to make sure if this was the correct entree, but I was informed that the sauce was missing. I went back into the restaurant and informed the cashier that the sauce was missing, she actually checked the bag to see if it was in there. This time she came out of the kitchen and her disposition was much nicer and professional. If I was just ordering for myself, I would have requested a refund, but I gave them grace but never expected to be in the restaurant for an hour. Although my Hot Homey Chicken dish was tasty, the bread was cold and soggy, and I threw the tater tots away. I doubt that I will return to this location.
