What an absolute scam. While discussing breast pumps with my insurance company, they said "Do you know you also have this free service where you can get a lactation consultation?" I confirmed it would be completely covered (no surprise deductibles or copays). They even found me Milk & Honey and said they were in network and that a consultation would be completely free. I wouldn't have even scheduled the appointment if they hadn't recommended this. I had the appointment, which was fine. They had to have a credit card on file. Later, I get billed for $125 (and they charged the card on file). I called and spoke to the lady at the front desk, and told her what my insurance had said. She said "we will get it refunded until the issue is resolved." Never got a refund. Called back, and she asked if I had talked to my insurance company. I called my insurance company who confirmed again that it should have been completely covered. They said Milk & Honey used the wrong billing code, which is why I was getting a bill. I called Milk & Honey and the same lady at the front desk directed me to their billing department. They essentially told me they couldn't do anything as an outside biller and that it had to be changed by Milk & Honey. I called them again and was told by the front desk lady that the manager would call me, which of course, she never did. My insurance company even directly spoke to them while keeping me on hold, and told them that it was being billed incorrectly and I shouldn't owe anything. I later spoke to my insurance company again, who said they didn't code the visit as a lactation consultation and instead as an office visit because of the time spent with me. I was never told there was a time limit on the appointment. I hardly even asked any questions, and just listened to what the lactation specialist was saying. It's $125, not going to break the bank. But out of principle, I am just livid that they charged this. I would have never come to the appointment in the first place. The front desk lady at one point said "we are owed the payment for the service we provided." Yes! Absolutely you are. And my insurance company has an agreement to pay that. I did not come for an office visit that you are billing for. I came for a lactation consultation. Bill correctly and fairly and get paid for your services. Don't try to upcharge for other services. What a scam. Unbelievable. Will tell everyone to steer clear.
