I want to give four or five stars because the food was really good, but I can't, because as others have pointed out, the customer service is terrible.
We got there a few minutes before opening and waited, and when the gals opened up they said to come on in, then dropped the door in my face. I thought to just let it go. After all, maybe she was just being spacey in the moment.
We got up there and looked at the pastries. The woman behind the counter didn't know what they were and had to check. I guess that's fine. She took our order, repeated items back to us as if she was actually annoyed the two of us spent $50 (!!! Pretty steep, right?) on a breakfast where we order at the counter and bus our own tables. She also interrupted us halfway through ordering to ask 'wait, how many in your party? I just need to know because we need to figure out how to seat a group.' ...there were 4 of us, we were first in the restaurant, and all you'd do is push any of the two tables together.
It's hard to explain this bad customer service other then to say it was obvious she didn't want to be doing this. Actually, my hubby says it best: it's a breakfast place run by people who hate mornings.
As for the food, not bad. My brother had the seasonal veggie dish which had a hilarious amount of ricotta but was otherwise good, my eggs & greens was over-dressed but otherwise good, my mother's oatmeal was more of dessert than breakfast so it's otherwise good, my hubby loved his noodle bowl, we all loved the bread pudding and orange cardamom roll, and the dacha sunrise (beet shrub, vodka, grapefruit) was one of my favorite cocktails in the city.
I would love to come back for the food, but it's not good enough to overcome the price combined with the lousy service. I'm owed at least an apology first.
