The Best New Pop-Up Restaurants and Bakeries in New Orleans - Eater New Orleans
"Cristina Quackenbush’s delicious Filipino pop-up, Milkfish, continues to thrive, fresh off her feature in Lisa Ling’s new HBO documentary, ‘Take Out,’ in an episode where Ling explores the history of Filipino-Americans in New Orleans." - Clair Lorell
I ordered the abodo. The dish came with two shrimp and tiny bit of pork on bone and cost $14. For such skimpy portions you would think the flavors would at least be amazing. Flavor was just okay. But then add in incredibly poor service. My water glass was never refilled and an extra napkin my wife asked for never came. Overpriced, small portions, mediocre flavor, and bad service.

Mom is cooking and daughter is serving some of the tastiest food around. The Kinilaw (Filipino ceviche) was worth returning 2 times in 3 days and that was just the appetizer. I can honestly say I wish I lived in NOLA just so I could be a regular at this lovely restaurant. I love home cooking and the typical southern fare but Milkfish is a place I look forward to visiting the next time I am in NOLA.
I hope the chef keeps on enjoying the art of creative cookin and never stops innovating.
Note to Mom
I bet that smoked Gouda and/or cheddar tasted awsome in the you desert.

The food is edible. That is saying all. First you come into the restaurant via an unairconditioned hallway and no one is keeping the stand. You wait and wait even though you have a reservation. Then they seat you but do not have enough chairs so two of our party stand for 5 min. waiting. We get water after about 10 min. but do not get served drinks for 15-20 after order. The appetizers are greasy and not very good. The main dishes are uninspired and not very tasty. We had 8 different things and all were not so great. If you want asian go to another culture cause this one is not very well thought out.

Takeout was subpar. Fish was dry in the Pancit Malabon, as were the pork bellies in the Lechon Kawali. The portions were quite small for the price, and it feels like they are just milking the niche. Overall, the two dishes I tried were great on paper, but poorly executed. Hopefully the in-house dining is better.

Delicious. Great service. Great food. Coming from a big city with exposure to Filipino food in NYC and Los Angeles, Milkfish gives solid traditional meals with an eclectic ambience.

The best filipino I have had and I am filipino and have been eating it all my life. I enjoy the Adobo, and the Bicol Express (which is a special offered from time to time) The kinilaw has perfect acidity and texture and the lumpia is very tasty. They have done an excellent job representing the filipino culture through the fine cuisine that they offer. All my friends I have referred have enjoyed it. It makes me proud that there is great filipino food in the South.

As a Filipino living in New Orleans, I was pumped to see this place. It's not quite like home but it's decent. They used to have San Miguel but it's been off the menu for a while. Try the sisig
