Which Minneapolis and St. Paul Patios Are Open Right Now, Summer 2020 | Eater Twin Cities

"I found their patio is currently open with tables sometimes placed on existing patios, in parking lots, or on sidewalks; guests are asked to wear masks and all staff will be masked, with precautions in place—check with the restaurant for individual days and hours. Studies suggest lower exposure risk when dining outdoors, but that benefit depends on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines." - Joy Summers

Everyone was so helpful and friendly. They make their own sausages and other meats in house. They have a great selection of house made soups salads entrees and desserts as well

Besides being an incredibly well stocked specialty grocery store, MVM has an equally incredible staff! You ask a question & get a knowledgeable answer , they don’t pretend to know what they don’t . What they don’t know isn’t much , whether it’s the best rye bread or the most compatible white wine with halibut they’ll steer you straight . So grateful to the Canepas for our local gem. Thanks Doug , etc…..!

I had a very skimpy cheese sandwich from this deli. It was very disappointing. When you order a cheese sandwich with no meat, you need to make sure there is enough of everything to make it satisfying. You can do much better for your customers.

Cute little neighborhood grocery store!

Google
I have a bit of a thing for grocery stores/markets. Visiting a good one is better than a museum for me- I can get totally absorbed in looking at all the little unique options for snacks, beautiful packaging details, or picking through spices I never knew existed before. The first time I went to this market, I spent about an hour wandering around in fascination. I started getting strange looks from the workers because I’d been there so long, just enjoying looking and perusing. Needless to say, there’s an amazing selection of goods here! If you don’t rush through or go straight toward a specific item, you’ll notice a lot of fun options that you don’t find at every other store. The deli section is also awesome and I’ve often gotten sandwiches here with family and friends before or after hiking. The store is on the expensive side but undoubtedly a quality choice. Highly recommend!

Google
Very good grocery store. I have yet to try the Deli but intend to.

Google
I love this little market. Staff are friendly and beer/wine selection is primo.

Google
High quality items beautifully presented with excellent service. Great selection! Everything you need for a picnic or being a guest in a local’s home. Tasty sandwiches in the deli. Slow down and take in the vibe.

Yelp
Wonderful menu choices, Thai-CA fusion. I've been there for brunch, lunch and dinner and enjoyed them all. Staff are very friendly and sweet. Highly recommend!

Yelp
After a beautiful day in the woods and hiking on Mt Tam, we stopped by this amazing family run market . What a Gem and great find . Mill Valley Market has been operating since 1929 and they are still family run . This is their 4th generation! We came to get their sandwiches and boy did they deliver. Ordered 2 vegetarian, chicken chipotle, Thanksgiving turkey and got jerk chicken from the hot foods buffet! They are way better than Whole Foods fyi! Great quality and freshest taste ! Delicious food and great service ! Love supporting our local gems and they nourished us with love! They also have a fish and meat market ! And a full grocery store plus a ln amazing wine selection and hot and cold buffet! Will be back!!

Yelp
We came here today to get a sandwich to go for a picnic at the redwood park nearby. We ordered on the phone for a steak sandwich on a Dutch crunch roll. The $14.99 sandwich was pre-cut and full of thick pieces of steak. There was a ton of arugula and pickled red onion. This was a very good homemade tasting sandwich of great quality. The market itself is pretty low key, very dense and small. It has everything you need but it doesn't have the produce that I would normally get at a Whole Foods or Good Earth. The service was good and it was very convenient to go to. We will definitely come back to get sandwiches here whenever we have a picnic nearby. It was convenient. The redwood park nearby did not disappoint.

Yelp
What a fantastic market in town. My sisters and I decided to grab sandwiches before a hike, and boy what a great decision! There was a wide array in the deli selection, from making your own sandwich, or premade sandwiches. Also there were many options of pre-packaged food items. I got the Tenderfoot sandwich and it was delicious!! The mango lime mayo is such a nice touch. We didn't try anything from the bakery, but next time I'm in town I definitely will need to try a cake!

Yelp
This place is FANCY. In a lot of ways (including the higher prices), it reminded me of Corti Bros, which is one of my favorite grocery stores in the whole state (and possibly the world). The products here are higher end, and very well curated. Lots of hard to find Italian items. Lots of healthy options for cyclists and day hikers. The deli has a great reputation with locals, who form long lines for the custom sandwiches. The shelves and floors are as clean as it gets. I mean, you could practically eat off the floor. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. The products were as fresh as it gets. My only complaint would be that it was very hard to find parking, but this resulted in me taking a long walk around Mill Valley, which is actually nothing to complain about. Like I said, the prices were very high, but were also justified by the high quality. I would definitely stop by here next time I'm in the neighborhood and looking for something decent and healthy to eat.

Yelp
We showed up absolutely starving to Corner Bar only to find out that they don't serve food until 5pm, enter in Mill Valley Market. To tide us over we picked up some hummus and salsa with hand ground absolutely amazing tortilla chips. The market boasts several tables outside and they were quite comfortable while we worked through our snacks. All in all they were great in a pinch and their food ended up being better than our meal at Corner Bar.

Yelp
Gorgeous store. Attentive staff. Tons of healthy brand and product options on every aisle. Shopping here feels special.

Yelp
This wine was recommended by the staff-had a nice write up..."6 generations" blah blah blah. But had high rating from this staff and like to support local growers. Literally so much added sugar I couldn't even drink a glass. Spent $100 and was the worst bottle I've ever had. Tried calling multiple times to have the store take down the hand written blue sign recommending this bottle. Shame on you seriously. Yes I did spend 100 on a bottle of wine, but you just lost my business forever. Stop carrying this crap or take it to $30 which is the appropriate price for this garbage. Beware of this store's overpriced propaganda! Never again!

Flurp o.

Yelp
Excellent service from here! Kayla was super kind and helped us find everything we need!

Caitlin D.

Yelp
This store advertises stock they don't have, they just canceled an order for 12 cases of jars that are not available.

Yelp
Delicious made to order sandwiches. The dessert choices are to die for! Love that they have lots of individual servings to choose from. I had the butternut squash soup. Very flavorful. It's my go to place for lunch after a hike! Friendly service and the store is always clean!

Yelp
2/20/2023: I specifically visited Mill Valley Market for coffee; however, all the coffee dispensers were disappointingly empty. Aside, I noticed Mill Valley Market's Patrons eating their deli meals outside . . . Which IMHO, the deli selection didn't appeal to my tastes at all. Overall, Mill Valley Market's grocery selection is small; however, I didn't notice a plethora of organic produce or products.

Yelp
We only stopped by for a sandwich and chips. I ended up buying some cheeses too and they had a nice variety. The Sammie's were delicious and they had a wide variety. The con is space is limited and it can be busy on a weekend. If you can place your order in advance that will help.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Duncan in the wine department is amazing! Great customer service and extremely knowledgeable on his wines. I'll be back.

Yelp
This is the cutest grocery store that combines local and gourmet goods. We popped in here after a hike and were on the hunt for lunch. We got one sandwich and some chili. Everything was pretty good, but not amazing (3-4 stars for the food), but we ended up doing some grocery shopping as well and that was 5 star quality. They have a great butcher and fresh veg. To note they have a fair amount of outdoor seating, however, it was raining so we had a car picnic!

Yelp
Stopped here on a day trip to grab some tasty fixings for lunch. Some older guy was complaining about the sandwich ordering screen and barked at a tall young man with curly hair to call someone to fix it. While the other customer was surly and had nothing but bad things to say about everything, the tall young man kept focused and remained admirably cheerful and kind. He even helped me check out while on the line trying to get help for the machine. The checkers in the main area were nice, too. It was enough of a contrast to the not as friendly family selling Girl Scout cookies in front, that I thought, hey, why have I never reviewed this market before? Favorites are the nectarines in summer, soups, buffalo chicken/chicken legs and salad bar.

Yelp
The food offerings at this establishment are highly enjoyable. The staff members are courteous, and the overall ambiance of the market is quite delightful.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in Downtown Mill Valley right in Best local most loved Mill Valley Market Pick your breads all sorts of the truly delicious sandwiches I have had cool local names for each sandwich These are a must to grab to take on a hike !

Yelp
Best fix ever after a hike. The sandwiches are so quick and delicious. Highly recommend. They have a hot bar & soup options too.

Yelp
Love the market!! This is a place for rich folks and tourists alike. We ordered two sandwiches for lunch along with two salads for the following day. It was over $50. We also looked around the store. Prices were crazy, for example, black beans were $4.59 a can and peaches were $8 a pound. Local folks were actually doing their regular shopping. The sandwiches were excellent and fresh. The salads were just okay. Another interesting fact about the Market is you have to pay to park.

Yelp
Nice deli and market! Kinda reminds me of Andronico's or a small version of Whole Foods. They have a variety of beers, ales, ciders, hard seltzers as well as other grocery items for purchase. They're well stocked and have a variety of products. You can go up and down the aisles and browse. Took us forever to leave! They sell made to order sandwiches as well as already made ones. And they have a kiosk to place sandwich orders. You get to choose from the list of what you want in your sandwich. We specified toasted, but they didn't heat up our sandwich. And the sandwich was tasty but wasn't huge, just average for $13. They have a few tables outside for those who wanna sit and eat their deli items. When the lady rang us up, she automatically charged us for bags (10 cents each) in the beginning at checkout and didn't give us an option to decline. I guess people don't come with bags? I had 2 in my purse but didn't bother taking them out after we were charged. The staff don't seem friendly and came across kinda stiff. At least that's the kind of vibes I got from them. But I liked shopping and perusing their aisles, hence the 4 stars.

B P.

Yelp
Tough place to review as it's a cute little market with lots of great products. It's a little confusing how to order a sandwich as there isn't a number system and there is a paper ordering process or a kiosk ordering process but no signage to explain anything. We used the paper order form and several items were missed on our order, no avocado was out on the order and the melted cheese option was not completed. Sandwich was great but could have been even better if we had received what we ordered. Definitely a little frustrating.

Yelp
Shhhhhh! Secretly hidden in an undisclosed section of the market lie some wonderful donuts, not many, not super cheap, but super tasty and super fresh! If you cannot find them, go to Bob's Donuts down the road close to the Junction, or Safeway!
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
A super cute, high end market in Mill Valley. Stopped in for to go sandwiches before a hike. Sandwiches were okay, but took an hour to receive. I would take advantage of their online ordering system if you're in a hurry.

Yelp
Tuesday, August 4, 2020. During our "Therapy Tuesday" hike, we were headed to Muir Woods and my former boss, who used to live in the North Bay, wanted to grab a bite to eat before the hike and told us to stop at downtown Mill Valley. Appropriately named Mill Valley Market, we moseyed on through and headed towards the deli counter. Now being in Marin County, I immediately noticed their products were more on the upscale part and high-end items from caviar, mousse, pate, smoked salmon, cold cuts, wines and cheese. I expected the sandwiches to be on the pricier side, but to my surprise, most were under ten bucks - and they have 'The Daily Deal' special of Pastrami Sammich for $6.99. My other friend and I both chose 'The Daily Deal' and got everything with it, which had tomatoes, lettuce, onion, mayo, Swiss cheese and several slices of pastrami with your choice of bread. You also have the option of having add-ons and meat and cheese toasted. I opted to have mine cold while my friend chose the latter. We ended up eating half of the sandwich just outside a small park and saved the other half for the hike. It's not a humongous sandwich, but it was pretty good for the price point. Besides, it was very tasty and adequate. For $6.99, it was a good sandwich and they also had other kinds of sandwiches, which looked just as good. If you're in a rush, they also have other pre-made sandwiches, wraps, salads and other to-go foods available at the counter. If you want a picnic that's a little bit fancier, or some snacks on the road, they have plenty of items to choose from. It's a nice neighborhood market with lots of history and plenty of charm. Wouldn't mind paying them another visit the next time we're headed to Muir Woods, Mt. Tam and Muir Beach.

Yelp
I ordered my holiday meal from Mill Valley Market and the food was perfect, fresh and delicious. It was easy to order and pick up, the staff were helpful, efficient and personable. I am grateful for how much they made my life easier!

Yelp
We stopped here for sandwiches on the way to Muir Woods. Sandwiches were okay. Baked goods were not so good.

Yelp
Great quality sandwiches! So many to choose from. I grab a sandwich on my way to Stinson beach

Yelp
This was such a gem of a find! I'm jealous we don't have this place back home. This market/deli feels like a local version of a Whole Foods in their excellent selection of healthier foods. I wish I could've tried all of their sandwiches. They also had a ton of hot and cold salad bar options. Highly recommend grabbing a ton of items here, especially at the deli, and heading to Muir Forest or Muir Beach for a picnic.
google avatar

Jon E.

Yelp
Came here for 3 sandwiches and they messed up all of them $8.99 for a Pastrami sandwich. They ended up using turkey pastrami and forgetting the lettuce $10.99 for a vegetarian cheese sandwich. They forgot the cheese. $12.99 for a KIDS roast beef, just roast beef and cheese, on white bread. They used wheat bread. And how on earth is the kids sandwich the most expensive??
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Really really good sandwich for a great deal. Huge sandwich for $9! There is cute outdoor seating to sit and relax outside the market. The market also has great cheese, snacks, and drink options. Perfect for gathering picnic supplies.

Yelp
I will be honest, I have very limited experience here. It is in a very cute part of old Millvalley, by the town square. Parking is hard to come by down there, so be warned... I will say that they have a very good selection of alcoholic spirits and wines. They have a very good buyer, and they also own the high end liquor store about a block away. What is also extremely nice about this market is the customer service! The customer service is top notch, and that is a lost art these days...

Sanjay T.

Yelp
This is a really nice place to stop by if you're in Mill Valley. Lots of options for Sandwiches. Very busy. Many folks in line. But wait was worth it. Our sandwiches were prepared well using fresh ingredients. We really enjoyed eating them!!

Yelp
I think we've all learned to appreciate essential workers at a completely different level during the last few months. The local community really owes a debt of gratitude to the family that runs Mill Valley Market for going above and beyond for their clientele during emergencies. From the PG&E power outages to the pandemic, this small family-run market finds new and innovative ways to serve and take care of their community. We made a quick switch to shopping here during the early days when we thought it might be better to avoid humans and lines and found we wanted to spend far less time in a supermarket. MVM quickly set up online shopping and touchless (call in and brought to your trunk) and easy pick up on all the staples and extras we needed. They are a small local market, yet were the first local market to set up a basic and workable online system for obtaining your groceries in a touchless fashion, something that took other markets another month or more to accomplish. For us, it was a no-brainer to shift our shopping here. They have all the sundries and extras covered, have a nice produce section that includes items they grow themselves at their own family farm, and they sell top shelf liquor and wine. Its one stop shopping and nice to support people who invest back in their community.
google avatar

Taylor J.

Yelp
Great find! The sandwich was amazing. A lot of meat and veggies. The cakes were delicious as well! All fresh ingredients! Def come Here!
google avatar

Andrew O.

Yelp
Picked up a couple sandwiches, the turkey tasted old/off. I had expected this place to be good since it seems like an upscale grocery store. Meat was pre sliced, cheese pre sliced, makes me question how long it's been sitting there. Won't be back
google avatar

Minou S.

Yelp
This is one of the areas better ethnic markets to visit. I am Iranian and for the most part, I can find a lot of the seasonings, pickles, dried vegetables for stews etc. at this market. They have a lot of imported yummy items as well like cookies and chocolates. I visit the store all the times and the two Iranian cashiers are also a delight - they have a great attitude ...

Yelp
First time customer visited on Sunday afternoon with my family. It's a great local market with everything you need for food or drink. We ordered sandwiches and soup, they were good size and not expensive. Good customer service from the girl working in the deli . We will be back try some other food items.
google avatar

Camille S.

Yelp
First time shoppers: we shared the Ole Mill sandwich on rosemary focaccia bread. Probably worst sandwich I've tried in a long time. Bread very heavy, filling very thin and drowning in sauce (mayo, horseradish?) very soggy. We tossed it.
google avatar

Henri T.

Yelp
this is one of the last remaining old-fashioned family-owned grocery store/delis in the area. We go several times a week. Their produce is so very fresh and some of it they grow on their very own farm in Sonoma. The meat and fish department is superb. their deli makes the most delicious sandwiches that you can order ahead online. They have all sorts of delicious gourmet items that are hard to find elsewhere, such as mustard and pickles and various sauces. They also support a lot of local businesses. In addition, they have a wonderful assortment of gluten-free items. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
The sandwich was amazing! It's only 4 stars because I asked for sprouts and the label said sprouts but there was none in the sandwich. It was warmed up and had great taste. The Dutch crunch is just insane! I shall return for more!
google avatar

Wendy Y.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the sandwiches at the deli counter and the price is very reasonable ($10.99 for a special sandwich). It's a great option to pack on your way to Muir Woods. I ordered the special sandwich called Hoo Koo E Koo: Grilled balsamic chicken breast, onion jam, garlic mayo, organic greens, tomato. I appreciate that the green included tasted really fresh and there was a good mount of veggies in it.
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
One of the great local businesses. This place is an old school when customer is still valued and respected.
google avatar

Bonnie A.

Yelp
I love shopping local, and I really appreciate Mill Valley Market. I called on Thursday for a large cut of pork for a very specific dish. They called back on Friday and had their distributor deliver it to the market. When I arrived today to pick it up, Kelly had it tied and wrapped for me. Their service is always friendly, their quality is top notch and they always come through. I've been shopping there for years.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
Growing up I always referred to this place as Mill Valley markup. And while it's true it may be a bit more expensive than Safeway, I have consistently been impressed by the selection, the quality and the customer service. I've decided the consistency of those factors makes it worth paying slightly more for while supporting a locally owned business. Also it is easily my favorite deli counter for sandwiches or prepared foods in Southern Marin. Their egg salad is my favorite. And when I need a wine or whiskey recommendation for gifts they are always very helpful without being condescending. My in-laws sent me a gift basket from Mill Valley Market for my birthday. It was absolutely wonderful selection of goodies chosen by the staff. I didn't even know they had that service! But I'll be using in the future.
google avatar

Grazie E.

Yelp
I kinda dont want to share why I love this place because it may get overpopulated and then I wont want to come back if that ever happens.. But, shoutout to the owner(s) for staying open during this time... I will only say that I love that they sell special items all over the store that you cant seem to buy at any local franchise grocery store.. I come here additionally for their fresh produce and the deli section!! Please note, things are a bit more expensive here if you care to save your coins lol Equator coffee is down the street so its worth a stroll in the neighborhood before grabbing your groceries!

Candice G.

Yelp
Friendly market with a good variety of products. Stopped in while visiting in Mill Valley, and the staff made us feel welcome.
