Wow, and not in a good way. So Katina's Kitchen is now Millie's Diner. I had high hopes based on the positive reviews and a colleague's enthusiastic endorsement, but boy did this place disappoint.
They were packed when we arrived, not surprising for a holiday Monday, but we thought the 10-15 minute wait was ok (gave time for younger offspring and SO to go check out the Dickeyville Grotto). The staff didn't bother pointing out that there was a bench hidden by the partition at the door, so I stood in the foyer to wait.
When a table was finally cleared for us, the server tossed 6 menus on the table and walked off - no welcome, explanation that one menu was breakfast and the other lunch, or description of what the specials were. We got our drinks pretty quickly, but that was the last of the attention of the server. After 10 minutes, we asked if we could place our order (two staff were bussing tables beside us when we hadn't even ordered yet).
After 25 more minutes, we asked for a follow up on our food (we were told it was almost done, took another 5 minutes to make it to the table). Our order? One chocolate chip pancake, one blueberry pancake, and a BLT with fries. Nothing that should have taken so long to prepare, especially since the crowd was mostly leaving - only a few tables came in after us (one table was bussed and folks seated, served and gone by the time we got our food).
The food was ok, at best. Neither pancake was finished - to be fair, they're huge, but surprisingly bland. The BLT was fine, with a good amount of bacon, but came cut into quarters and with no mayo. The fries were hot but, again, surprisingly bland.
We had to ask for the check, despite the fact that there was almost no one else in the restaurant at that point. And it's cash or check only, no cards.
I'm not sure what we did to piss off the server, but thanks to the poor service and meh food, we won't be back. Village Inn in Dubuque will get our dollars.
