The Best New Brunches in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"When it comes to weekend brunch, you can’t go wrong with the diner classics. This near-instant favourite in Verdun, open since May 2022, serves thick slabs of bacon, house-made lox, and superbly fluffy pancakes, with bread sourced locally from all-sourdough Miette and the honey bakers at Beecraft." - JP Karwacki

All the New Montreal Restaurants That Opened in May 2022 | Eater Montreal

"I checked out Millmans, a no-frills 'casse-croûte 4 the masses' on Wellington offering a concise breakfast and lunch menu—think thick-cut bacon, house-made lox, pancake stacks for mornings and burgers, smoked meat and fried chicken for lunch—sourced locally by chef-owner Nick Gaudette with contributions from bakery Miette and Beecraft, all served in a space decked with retro booths and mismatched tableware." - Valerie Silva

Went to try out their brunch. The service was great - the staff was super pleasant, helpful, and funny - which really make this a nice experience. The restaurant - an old school dinner style - is also pretty cool. Definitly a vibe! This said, the food was fine, and the portions were decent. We tried their best seller, The Millman (which our waitress oversold - it’s nothing special tbh), their breakfast sandwich (it was good! And that kaiser bun yumm👌🏼), and their "famous" pancakes - among the topping choices, I went for the fried chicken (the pancakes were good, but they need to do something about the spices in their batter because it was kinda blend… Good thing they provide a full jar of real maple syrup).

Cozy brunch spot with incredible food and service! This little brunch gem is small and quaint, but big on charm. From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable. I had a lovely chat with the owner—super friendly and welcoming—and the rest of the staff were just as great. As for the food: the pancakes are a must. They were thick and fluffy, served Quebec maple syrup. We also tried Le Millman, and it did not disappoint. The potatoes, seasoned with everything but the bagel spice, were a standout, and the bread was incredibly fresh. Scrambled eggs to perfection. One tip: if you’re getting the bacon (which you should), ask for it extra crispy since it’s quite thick. All in all, a fantastic experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
I had been looking forward to trying Millmans for a long time, given its reputation in Montreal. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. The food was subpar at best, and the restaurant felt more like a glorified diner with the price point of a proper brunch spot. I was especially excited about the pancakes, which turned out to be the biggest disappointment. Marketed as fluffy, they were dense and bread-like, lacking both texture and flavor. The homemade jam (hyped up by the waitress) was equally underwhelming. Overall, a very disappointing visit. I won’t be returning.

Incredible staff and location. Love the old school design and fairly priced food. Great place to come get a bite to eat with some buddies.

You have to try their pan cakes because they are the best in town. topped with fruit of the season, we had strawberry and it was awesome with the maple syrup included. added a side of avocado and totally made my day. who would think avocado and pancakes goes together ? well they do.! the bagel and lax was looking great! chill place great service. would def recommend you to come try. I'll be back for sure.

Google
Laid back diner style spot in Verdun. The pancakes were super fluffy and delicious. The breakfast sandwich was kind of bland, but it’s saving grace was the bacon inside, otherwise you can mostly just taste bread from the big bun. Didn’t try the breakfast plate but I think that would be a good alternative for next time. Prices feel high given portion sizes, quality and interior. 4 stars though for the lovely staff, the pancakes and the bacon :)

Google
Wow talk about deliciousness, I’m almost upset I didn’t go for breakfast here every morning during my visit. But I’ll correct that mistake next time! Go and get the bacon and pancakes!

Google
Bacon is incredibly delicious because it’s well-cooked and not salty. Grilled cheese is not over-grilled. The texture of the Pancake is between fluffy and dense. Everything is great

Yelp
Came for brunch on a sunday and it was awful. So awful that I did not have the chance to try the food . Overall waited over and hour and a half for our food that never arrived . We understand mistakes happen , but when everyone around u , who got there after you gets served and pays and you still are waiting for your meal is crazy . After and hour and 10min our server came to tell us our order was being made when he saw us questioning why the people around where all eating yet we were still waiting . Our last straw was when the people seating beside us got there 10-20min ago and yet their food came right away . We stood up and went to the counter all this to discover the cook didn't even had our order in his papers at all. They told us there was a problem with the ipad , but this was advise to us 10minutes after we ordered so we repeated our order at that time . Guess nothing was punch in . Honestly it was an awful experience, when you're hungry been wasting 1hour and a half seating there waiting for an order that never existed in their machines . We had places to go, yet we wanted to try this place so bad we said why not. Seeinh two very busy servers we decided to give them their time but we were completely forgoten. Very disappointing and very disrespectful. If I could give 0 stars I definitely would.

Yelp
Great new breakfast/brunch/snack bar diner in Verdun on Wellington. Just serves the classics unlike the trendier, hipster-run breakfast places which have annoyingly taken over Verdun. I just had the breakfast plate which came with 2 super thick slices of bacon (steakon) , 2 eggs any style, home fries and 2 slices of toasted thick sourdough bread. That in itself was filling. They really take their diner credentials seriously. They served my tea in a Fireking Jadeite cup and saucer straight out of the1950's. I know because ever since Martha Stewart started collecting the stuff, finding Fireking Jadeite pieces now is very difficult and prices have shot through the roof. The chrome fan, milkshake maker, chrome details around the bar, black and white photos of old Verdun and hanging plants also add to the retro vibe. Service was friendly and quick. They also give you a 15% discount if you go between 8-10am.

Yelp
This is a great spot for simple but delicious breakfast in Verdun. Quaint dinette with bar stools at the counter; reminds me of the simple diners serving home style food with a smile! The service was amazing from start to finish and bottomless coffee is always welcome. I loved the fluffy pancakes topped with banana compote and if you like them extra sweet, don't skimp on the maple syrup. The best part: the thick cut bacon. Order it. Order extra. It's that good!

Yelp

Yelp
I was so happy to see a new brunch place open up in Verdun, and I appreciate that it's just straight up diner style instead of being hip and trendy. My wife and I split the pancakes and the breakfast sandwich: the sandwich was pretty good but nothing special, and the pancakes were thiccc but didn't have much flavor. I would come back to try a few more things, but for now it's nothing crazy special and was a bit pricey. A nice spot to grab a quick bite!
