This place was pretty good and not too bad. They had very little beer and more meats. The Ruben was amazing. The Ceaser and ranch was also incredible. Probably made in house. We went here on an extremely WHIM. My wife and I could not decide on a place to eat, then my baby crapped his diaper while we were driving north from the San Diego zoo.... so I just took the exit at Del Mar and parked in front of Miltons... Ok Bye

My husband and I were on our way to picnic near my aunt's house in Solana beach. I didn't know about milton's, but he was raving about their pastries and sandwiches. So we stopped by to get a variety of pastries to bring to the picnic, they were all devoured before even getting to the main lunch foods! They have a really great delicate touch on each of their pastries. If you're in the area I definitely recommend trying this place. I would love to go back to try some of their other food / sandwich items.

Google
The overstuffed roast beef sandwich was great! It was that melt in your mouth cooked to rare perfection type of sandwich meat. The side of potato salad was nice too. The southwest salad was put together nicely and the grilled chicken was flavorful. We got a side order of sweet potato fries and they good too. Definitely stop and eat here if you’re in the area.

Google
Wonder full for a reasonable price. Highly recommend the half bowl soup sandwich combo for $18, enough for see almost two whole meals and both the soup and sandwich were superb. The potato salad was lackluster but regardless an amazing meal over all

Google
Milton's is freaking awesome! We went there on Saturday for a friend's bachelor party and we had a blast! I highly recommend the spicy jalapeno omelette. It was killer. It is so nice to be in San Diego and not have to go to a chain restaurant. The photo is technically from the event after Milton's.🔥🥧🌯🥩🥦🥪

Google
Always a great meal at miltons. Service is great and the food is served pretty quickly. It also has a bakery in the front where you can get fresh cookies and pastries amongst other things.

Zohra and Will are excellent hosts! The warm welcome is exceptional, very pleased!💯 Good was almost perfect. In overall a great place to eat! Beautiful establishment!

Google
Way way over priced. 100$ for potatoe salad, coleslaw chili and pastrami to go from the deli. Thats Just greed. No one should charge that much to your customers. 28$ for potatoe salad? I could of made 5 batches and fed the poor for that

Yelp
Great deli! The food is fresh and the portions very generous. Walking in the deli side is very inviting with a huge assortment of pastries, meats and side dishes. The staff there and in the restaurant is friendly and helpful. I loved the pull pork sandwich with potato salad and dill pickle. My husband ordered their split pea soup, a ham and cheese sandwich and dill pickle. He left nothing on his plate while I enjoyed half of my sandwich the next day. On the way out we purchased a bear claw (huge!) and a serving of coffee cake which we enjoyed the next morning. This place should be on everyone's bucket list.

Yelp
Milton's, unlike another deli in the college area looks more like a back east Jewish deli. The service is very friendly and the food is quite good. The menu lists tongue (when available). Unfortunately the last couple of times I ate there, it wasn't available. I ordered Pastrami on rye and it was very good. Our waitress was delightful. I was pretty close to leaving a review but then I went to the bakery counter. We ordered two mini black and white cookies and two anemic looking almond horns to go ($17.40). We had them for dessert when we got home. The cookies were ok. The almond horns tasted like they were made last week. Hard or almost impossible to chew. Fortunately I didn't break any teeth. I know what a fresh almond horn should taste like and this wasn't it. Still prefer it to the deli/sports bar where the wait staff are wearing Padres and Chargers jerseys. Are they still wearing Chargers duds?

Yelp
My visit to Milton's was born out of the desire to try their sandwich's, specifically the Ruben. When I walked in yesterday around 3pm, I waited for someone to seat me. Two girls were nearby and talking but they ignored me and one of them said, "It's not my job, I'm off the clock"...how rude!!! Luckily the guy also nearby got the waitress and I got seated. The waitress, Mati I think, was also not friendly, polite, or someone you want serving you. She never smiled once and didn't greeted me when she arrived. I noticed that she would talk to the other guests about how they liked their food but she ignored me. When I was done, she gave me the check without asking if I was done and when I said I wanted dessert, she looked put out! Afterwards, she just handed me the card reader, totally ignoring me and I couldn't wait to leave!! This lack of customer service is unacceptable! I really hope the management investigates her and decides she's better off working elsewhere!!

Yelp
I was on site a couple of months ago for FrI. I had dinner on a Friday night and was looking forward to it after working 65 hours that week, putting in double hours. Unfortunately, my experience was not pleasant. The manager on duty was unprofessional and seemed to lack accountability for the service and food quality Once I asked for assistance This was not the owner, but I did email the owner and never heard back Additionally, in front of other customers, she made allude accusations about a child's meal that could have been for an adult Not only did that. She announced it to customers, but to her staff out loud to try to intimidate me due to my comments about not being waited on for 30 to 40 minutes and the food coming out completely wrong, which was unacceptable and embarrassing. The food was also not consistent with what I had experienced in the past. I emailed the managers expressing my concerns but haven't received a response even though it has been three weeks. The restaurant is usually short-staffed and lacks kindness. However, the food is good but inconsistent. They do not read reviews, so ordering to-go is recommended. Perfectly

Yelp
So we walked in and no one was at the counter. There were several people waiting but few on the list. Girl that was pouring beers put us on list and said she wasn't sure where the guy was at nor did she know how long the wait was. Two people came in after us and two people came after them. Guy comes up and one lady says I want to put our name on the list. He points to the lady's that came in after and they said for two and seats them! He comes back and picks up the two people that wanted to be on the wait list to be seated!!! I said to both the lady that put our name down and the guy that what's the purpose of the list if you don't use it? He said, oh they had reservations!!! I was livid, but my son calmed me down as we waited. Service was very slow. When we did get our food, the side order was an appetizer and instead of just leaving it, she took it back to the kitchen to remove the two extra potato pancakes only to return with cold food. The sandwich was very good as were the fries and potato salad. We also had to wait a long time to settle the check. I don't think I'll be back.

Yelp
We came across this gem after visiting the fairgrounds. Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed by the hostess with a friendly smile. Although there was a brief waiting period due to the afternoon rush, it was not excessively long. We waited approximately 15 minutes, which passed swiftly as we perused the enticing dessert and deli counter. Once seated, we were impressed by the tasteful decor of the dining room. The food we ordered exceeded our expectations, particularly considering some of the reviews we had read. We shall certainly return to this establishment in the future.

Yelp
First time here. Got the brown bag special. We selected the Pastrami on sourdough bread with everything on it. Includes, chips, cookie and drink. Not a bad deal for $20.
google avatar

Ellee W.

Yelp
We came here for breakfast. The French toast had a great twist with the specialty bread. I would highly recommend. We also had the corned beef Benedict. This was a great choice as well. Coffee is very good as well. A great spot for breakfast.
google avatar

Cyndi L.

Yelp
Food was pretty good! But came out cold. I got the bacon cheddar omelette but as you can see the toast was cold so butter didn't melt at all. Food did come out quick. Old timey diner feel!

Yelp
Finally made it to the staple that is Milton's. I'd give it a 3.5 but rounding up to 4. We waited about a half hour on a Saturday around lunch time but everything moved pretty quickly. The potato pancakes were cooked perfectly and served with sour cream and apple sauce for dipping. We also had matzo ball soup and a pastrami sandwich with slaw and Russian dressing. The soup was good. I feel like it can be hard to find good soup in the area so it's nice to have that option. The pastrami was good, definitely worth having the slaw and dressing added.

Yelp
Comfort food done very well, large portions, good value, and we absolutely love their bakery desserts and breads. I enjoy popping in to grab stuff on the go, or having a meal in their dining room.

Yelp
Always a wonderful visit. Milton's has long been one of our favorite since our morning-after breakfast following my CPO initiation in 1995, some 30 years ago. Breakfast, bagels and hash always hit the spot. Milton's baked goods are superior. This trip was the Chicago Dog with all the fixin's and an exemplary omelet for the wife. If in the area, did as we do, make Milton's a must. Dicks

Yelp
Showed up to Milton's in a very uncrowded atmosphere out of our table grouping. We were the first ones there to sit down two or three customers came in after us and we seated they were served first we were served last could not get a water refill and we basically just got ignored until we were ready to get our bill which we set for 10 or 15 minutes waiting to be acknowledged, it's a sad day. What's going on but especially we're not in San Diego. This is the third restaurant in two days having to sit and wait for a prolong period of time. Seems to be the norm. Prices have gone up in the service is incredibly bad no one seems to care, shame on Milton better training is required

Yelp
Eh, what a mediocre lunch. Way overpriced, and obviously still living off their past glory days and reaping the benefit of their name in the form of an annuity. The sandwich sure looks large, until you realize that all the meat is only placed in the center of the bread, with NO meat anywhere near the crust or edge of the bread. If you move the meat evenly on the bread, you end up with a very average size sandwich. On a positive note, the pastrami was good, as was the rye bread. Service was only fair. We placed our drinks order, and server only brought out water, and then wanted to take our food order. We all wanted our coffee and tea BEFORE ordering our meal. 8 minutes later she returned with our drinks. Needless to say, I won't be planning to return.
google avatar

Sanjeev T.

Yelp
JEEEEEZUs - WTF happened to baked goods. A single bear claw and a hamantaschen $12. Talk about inflation and ripping people off for things that were $6. Good luck with the "new pricing". Who is making the baked goods - Julia Childs at $500 a tray. NOT acceptable.

Yelp
Heading to/from LA/San Diego, if so a stop at Milton's is in order. Right off the highway, ya can't beat that. A large takeout area and ample dine in seating, both options are equally satisfying. After several take out orders over the years, I finally had time to dine in. Service was amazing! Nothing beats eating your food immediately after it's prepared. Huge portions and an incredible menu to satisfy all preferences, ya can't beat it.

Yelp
This place is the bomb. The food was delicious and fresh. I got the monte cristo and it was on point. The hubs got the Rueben and he devoured it. The bakery is nice, but it was a little bare the day we went. And service was a little slacking. I'll definitely be back though. The food was good enough to overlook those two small disappointments.

Doc R.

Yelp
How the mighty have fallen! Miltons used to be pricey but worth it, because the portions were so large there was a second meal at home built into every order. The prices are still high, but the portions of meat is half of what it once was. Sad. This was not a one sandwich fluke, because I went with my spouse, and his sandwich was just as empty, not even enough meat to cover the bread at either end.
google avatar

Damian D.

Yelp
Great location, friendly service,$110 for myself my wife and son, tip included. I was under the impression this was a Jewish deli. How do you cook your food with lard? Ummm not kosher at all, plus Last time we were here the country potatoes were a bit raw, so we asked for the country potatoes to be thoroughly cooked. I added a picture of what we got instead.
google avatar

Yelp
The best pastrami eatery in Del Mar. Nice ambiance, clean friendly. The only downfall at this visit is that the waitress automatically added in a $16.60 tip. Please do not get me wrong, I always tip. Sincerely didn't appreciate waitress added her tip in automatically. Not tasteful.

Yelp
This classic deli has an epic menu, friendly service and a great atmosphere. The matzo ball soup is loaded with noodles, chicken and carrots. Sandwiches are piled high and accompanied by a crunchy pickle and your choice of side. The potato salad is delicious. And you know I'm a Cole slaw girl! This one is great!

S G.

Yelp
This place only exists because there are so few Deli's left. It is not a real Jewish Deli, which anyone from back East would realize when they see ham on the menu, but it isn't even a good regular Deli. The Matzo Ball Soup was so salty it was inedible, adding water just watered down what little flavor it had since nothing but carrots and chicken was added. No turnips or anything that really makes a good matzo Ball Soup. The corned beef was dry and tasteless, the so called Kaiser Roll was really just a Challah Roll. The pickle wasn't even good and the cole slaw was flavorless and bland. The potato Knish wasn't bad but it cost $12! They could easily make it smaller and more affordable. They served gravy with it but not deli mustard. Gravy with a Knish? Is this Idaho? The owners clearly have no pride or they wouldn't serve such bad food just because customers have no where else to go.

Yelp
Went back to Milton's to give it a second chance. Coming from New York City I am picky about my Deli. The staff outside of the greeter needs a step up. My wife's order was wrong, ordered a pastrami omelet and got a sandwich. Ordered my fries well done, did not happen. We ordered a $14 knish to share it was cold and tasteless. My corn beef sandwich was nothing like anything I ever saw. So far from a good Deli, very disappointed and not cheap

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
Just got home from an excellent dinner at Milton's. My wife had a half fresh turkey sandwich with a bowl of chicken soup and I had the pastrami corned beef and Swiss on rye. Everything was delicious right down to the pickle and coleslaw. Lynn was the perfect server which can be difficult to come across these days. We are staying in Solana Beach for a month so we will definitely be back. The menu is huge and their bakery looks amazing. Well done Miltons.

Yelp
Milton's is a beautiful location and this was the first time we tried it out! Our wait to be seated was short, however once we were seated it did take a little bit for the server to take our order (they were really busy). We ordered the Reuben split in half and then had chicken tenders and fries for our son. The food - phenomenal! I've only had a better Reuben from Hamburger Factory in Poway, but this is now a go-to spot if I'm driving down the PCH and have a craving. My only complaint besides the slower than normal service was that this business doesn't offer a discount for military veterans, active duty, or first responders.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
Your classic deli. The menu has so many great choices. I went with the turkey sandwich on rye. The bread was so fresh and soft. They have a sit down area or a counter service. I also grabbed a few cookies at the counter afterwards. The kiss Cookie and lemon cookie were both very tasty!
google avatar

Siggy R.

Yelp
Great menu, best Matzoh ball soup in town and good Jewish Deli comfort food. They also have a take-out deli & bakery.
google avatar

KayAnna A.

Yelp
Great sandwiches! I would suggest making a reservation ahead of time if you can because they do get quite busy. The hostess and servers are very nice and attentive. Wonderful service! There are so many options on the menu it's hard to choose. I ended up with the chicken salad sandwich, pasta salad, and house salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The sandwich and pasta salad were delicious. Probably the best chicken salad I've had. Bread was very fresh. The house salad was alright, almost too bitter for me. My friend loved her baby back ribs and corn. The coleslaw and cornbread were good, but not amazing. The ribs were definitely the best part. Great place for families and large groups too!
google avatar

Wes B.

Yelp
The Best. Food is perfect and homemade all the time, well at least it tastes like it. Don't for get the Pies!!! That's the best part.

Debbie L.

Yelp
Been coming here for years! Loved this place until today! My service dog was denied entrance even after I explained the service she provides. It was explained to me that the owner does not allow dogs into the restaurant and we were welcome to sit out on the patio.
google avatar

Kathryn L.

Yelp
This is an original Jewish deli and restaurant. Their sandwiches are really good. I would recommend this for a family meal or take out a picnic lunch.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch and wanted a true deli style pastrami sandwich. The sandwich was excellent - had a pastrami and corned beef 'triple decker' to share that came with fries and coleslaw. Freshly baked rye bread and the corned beef melts in your mouth. Delicious! What really stood out was the service, Chris B did an excellent job with order, making recommendations and being kind to our dogs. Thanks for the amazing service and experience.

Annette J.

Yelp
The service and food quality have went down a bit over the years. If you do go, make sure to get the banana pudding (if they have any left), it's soooo good!
google avatar

Tran K.

Yelp
Gluten free deli sandwich heaven with really good pickles. The servings are huge, prepare to eat half and take home the other half for dinner. As a vegan I order the grilled portabella sandwich or veggie Reuben with modifications. My boyfriend usually gets the super Reuben on gluten free bread. Super high ceilings and suspended bikes for some reason. The service is really good here.
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
This restaurant is still the best deli in San Diego. Get the Super Ruben and be happy. Service is light-hearted and fun. New York wishes Milton's had a location there.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Looks like my family will not be back . Zero customer service . Waiter was incompetent couldn't get the order straight . Don't use a Groupon coupon mis- read the value of the coupon . Restaurant couldn't correct the error was told you have to call Groupon for a refund . This place has gone downhill Big time !! D.Z. Akin's it's not , by a long shot !!

James B.

Yelp
if you are looking for a NY Jewish Deli in the San Diego area, this is NOT it. I am somewhat of a Jewish Deli acicalado having lived many years in NYC. unfortunately, Milton's failed the basic Deli tests: 1) they do not make pickles and do not have a tub of half sour and full sour pickles on the table. my sandwich was served with a Klausens pickle (Oh the horror!). 2) the pastrami was not made in house (Boars Head?) it was sliced too thin, it was too lean and frankly dry Matzoh balls were good though All in all a bit disappointing. San Diego has better NY style Deli's
google avatar

Javi N.

Yelp
My oh My, this place was legit. The pastrami for a lunch on a Tuesday afternoon was by far the best pastrami I've had in the past 10 years. The quality of meat to bread ratio was about 40% bread, 60% meat. The overall quality was amazing and the service was quick. I will be visiting frequently.
google avatar

Cucu C.

Yelp
Yes, Milton's has great food, ambiance, history and many things going for it, but I am writing this review to gush about their long time charismatic Hostess named Shannon. Such a beautiful, attentive and wonderfully engaging lady. Milton's is fortunate to have such a fine front end representative. Five stars to her. ‍ Don P

Yelp
Went to Milton's today as a solo diner for lunch today. Arrived at 1:30 pm and it wasn't busy. Was promptly seated and after 15-20 minutes waiting and being ignored, I left. I did try to flag down a waiter after about 10 minutes and got the "this is someone else's table" response. The someone else never appeared. I told the host I was leaving because I couldn't get any service and he appeared indifferent. Milton's used to be a favorite, but if today's experience is any indication, it's clear they've gone downhill. I can't comment on the food because I didn't have any.
google avatar

Sandra C.

Yelp
To my surprise, the food was all really good...and I am not a big sandwich person. But this is the famous Milton's, who makes bread and crackers sold all over! The pastrami is superior to the corned beef by far; pastrami is salty, has more flavor, and is more firm. (I had a bite of other people's sandwiches; combo pastrami and corned beef would probably be good too but pastrami is definitely the tastier meat.) I had the half sandwich, which came with choice of side (coleslaw, potato salad pasta salad--to which I had coleslaw that was really good). I selected chicken noodle, to which I give kudos for the plating -- bunch of noodle, bunch of white meat chicken, bunch of carrots in a bowl filled with warm broth. (I added my own salt and pepper) The soup was very hearty! Home made chips were nice and the fries had an extra crisp on the batter, as if were double fried. The bakery when you first enter the restaurant is very impressive. We ordered a slice of German chocolate cake (not a big deal and would not necessarily recommend) but the lemon bar was really good and a nice size. If your kid finds all the words in the puzzle on the child's mat, your kid gets a cookie!! So kudos for that!! Menu had a lot of variety--breakfast all day; baby back ribs; sandwiches; salads. Great service too. Liked the high ceilings and the sports memorabilia on the walls.

Yelp
Loved this place! I found a deal on Groupon and am so glad I did. The easy going ambience was seriously enhanced by the two men sitting in the booth next to us. They were both dressed very formally, and had a very "back east" flare to them. I ordered a half corned beef Reuben and a bowl of Matzoh Ball Soup. Their portions are huge! I couldn't even finish that lunch special. The Reuben was delish (loved the rye bread) and the soup was perfect. And our waitress brought me extra pickles! That's one sure way to win me over. Hubby had a Philly Cheesesteak which he says was "okay" but he still at the whole thing! We bought some baked goodies on our way out 'cuz I wanted more of this place. If only we lived closer! I would become a regular here, Groupon or not. If you're craving some good deli fare, definitely check this place out.

Tia B.

Yelp
Waitress was rude. Food was 3/5. Ambience is nice. Females at the bakery were ride as well. Though they do have lunch special Monday through Friday. I guess it's ok for a TO-GO place. Not a friendly sit down restaurant .
google avatar

Harinder K.

Yelp
An average meal that costs way too much - perhaps because of the reputation and location. Service is friendly, and the old pictures are fun. The bakery items are above average. The meal was just ok - lox Benedict came on some oldish looking potato pancakes. I asked for medium eggs but they were very soft poached. The fruit didn't look very fresh. Friends ordered pastrami sandwiches - the meat was dry and grizzly. Coleslaw was also average.
google avatar

Yelp
Really great food , awesome services and great ambiance. Cool rewards system , I recommend more to sight up .

Yelp
Bad food poisoning from the chicken salad. I noticed a very faint "offness" to it when I took my first bite and should have trusted my instincts. Looking at other reviews it seems like this is a consistent issue. They have to check their food temperatures and discard food when it's spoiled. Will never eat here again.

Yelp
Our out of town team just finished a soccer game at the nearby Surf sports complex and needed a place to gather and watch the FIFA Soccer game (Mexico Vs Argentina). We were given the 'Back Room' that held 40 team and family members. Yes, we were a large and chaotic group. Kudos to Milton's for accommodating us and getting this large group entertained and fed. My Half Pastrami and fries were delicious! Thanks again Million for a wonderful experience.

Yelp
Tonight my wife and I ate at Milton's and the restaurant around ~5:45-ish and the restaurant was packed! We waited patiently to be seated after others in line were seated and upon being kindly seated at Table 11, we were greeted by Judi, our favorite waitress. She was wonderful, as always, and our meal (I had the chicken soup with half a pastrami sandwich and my wife just had the matzo ball soup) was perfectly delivered and perfectly prepared. As we were eating, a couple walked in and sat in the booth at the end of our section and apparently there was a problem with his sandwich and when a new sandwich came out, it was not to his liking and he started being just nasty and loud. The manager came over to try to discuss the matter and that seemed to make him more angry and he launched into a personal verbal attack against the waitress, and because of my proximity to his table and the loudness of his ranting, I heard his BIG complaint was over a slice of friggin cheese!! What a pompous butt with such an air of self-importance! And to that man, a real BUTT HEAD, . . . . . . the KITCHEN made your friggin sandwich! There is nothing worse than enjoying your fabulous meal with great service, being understanding that the restaurant was packed during the prime dinner hour, . . . to have to listen to this BUTT HEAD turn into a big bully.

Yelp
Over priced. $20 for a corn beef sandwich that would be half the corned beef from most deli's I've been too who charge a few dollars less even.

Yelp
Rye bread, butter cookies, cream puffs, bagel chips, tuna salad, peaches, rugelach and cookies are just a handful of the magnificent delicacies you can find at Milton's. This Jewish Deli has been around for 26 years now, and it never fails to impress. Milton's has been a family favorite for my entire family for over two decades now. I had the pleasure of taking my husband and daughter here for the first time the other day and they loved it. My hubby enjoyed a cream puff that he devoured on the spot, and I purchased some butter cookies that melt in your mouth! I wanted to buy so much more (their tuna salad is to die for), but we were leaving the next day and there wasn't time to eat it. Like Arnold says though...I'll be back! Milton's Deli has everything from amazing baked goods to huge sandwiches, matzo ball soup, chicken pot pies, as well as many other Jewish foods that delight the senses. They know how to bake, cook, and serve quality food. The atmosphere is inviting and different than other delis. Milton's has lots of space, high ceilings, and because it's close to the racetrack they have fun race decor. The bakery case is my favorite part of the restaurant; just take a look for yourself and you will see! The staff here are attentive, friendly, and know their stuff. The one drawback is that it is pricey, but take into consideration the food quality, quantity, and location it isn't too much for what you are getting. If you can swing it I recommend Milton's for dine in or to go, you won't be disappointed!
