Hey! Food carts steps from the MAX stop. Friday night was First Friday Milwaukie. There were 4 carts present during FFM, but only 2 were open. One was Caribbean (with a Cuban sandwich on offering) and the other was Teppanyaki Hut, with sushi burritos. We ordered a sushi burrito, then sauntered over to Cha Cha Cha, where it took about 20 minutes to get a quesadilla. By the time we got back to Teppanyaki, we waited about another additional 5 minutes for food. This was their soft opening in Milwaukie. Both employees at this booth were friendly and in good spirits, though they were overwhelmed. They took cards, but there is an ATM in a cool retro steampunky cage silo around. There were also TONS of tables stacked up. The space is pretty large, like there could be live music in the future. The other booths around were Anything Pastable (pasta, their menu has fried ravioli on it!?), Filipino (there was an employee, but the cart wasn't open for business) and Caribbean, making 4 total.
Cute spot! Nice addition to the area. Rohst coffee is across the street, and Duffy's bar is a block away. I wonder if Duffy's will allow outside food on the outside tables with the new carts.
The Bernard's garage is also turning into condos (gag me) in a few years, the deal just went through so Milwaukie is turning into the cookie cutter hamlets you see all over Portland. For better or worse.
No restrooms at this point, just an atm, tables with a few umbrellas and 4 carts. There are no plans from Milwaukie city council so far to cover the carts from rain or extreme sun.
