San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Joining the recent trend of Yemeni coffee houses in the Bay (like Delah), Milyar Cafe is an all-day cafe in Berkeley open from 6am to 10pm. They serve Arabian-style coffee with housemade pastries like baklava, almond croissants, and raspberry danishes. The inside is ornate, with marble tables, intricate roofing panels, and plentiful black chairs. " - Ricky Rodriguez

Good speciality coffee with clean, cozy and ornate environment! I was firstly attracted by the exterior of the cafe when we were driving. It’s a Middle Eastern-inspired cafe that sells Turkish coffee and pastries. We tried the ice Yemeni latte and ice hibiscus tea. The latte is unique with flavor of cinnamon and cardamom. It’s aromatic, smooth, and not too sweet. The tea is refreshing, lightly sour and naturally sweet. Love them both! And I wish the tea is larger, so refreshing!

I kept trying to find this place by searching “Yemeni coffee” with no luck. Had to go Sherlock Holmes on Google Maps to find it. Got a chicken roll and it was soft and succulent. Not spicy. I feel savory Arab food has all the flavor of Indian food without the heat. Dripping this review to remind myself to come back here.

Google
Workers are super cool, progressive people and the place is really nice for hanging out. The drinks are affordable too. Had the pistachio milk cake, it was reaaaaally good! Could have been a bigger slice though.

I had high hopes for my visit, but unfortunately, it fell short. The table was dirty, with sticky coffee residues from a previous customer, and it wobbled so much that I struggled to cut my food without spilling my tea. While the Yemeni tea had a lovely aroma, it was served in a cup that was quite dirty, covered in oily smudges outside. I was too bothered to enjoy. The fork I received had bent tines like crooked teeth, which contributed to a rundown experience, especially considering how nice the exterior looked. I was with a friend, so I decided not to make a scene since it was her favorite café. On a positive note, the sweet desserts were excellent, although the savory pastries were just average.

Google
Service and atmosphere is good but they have zero light roast coffee the second I came in and none of the items in their coffee menu like pour over or French press is available. You can only get specialty coffee or espresso stuff. Not cool for a beautiful cage like this! Their specialty coffee is ok at best. I've had better ones from that Yemeni coffee shop on Broadway and 52? Idk. But, again, service and vibes are great here. Amazing people!

Google
There have been a lot of new Arab style coffee shops open in Berkeley/North Oakland and this is one is great. The coffee is very reasonably priced, and they have very many colorful Arabic pastries. The Baklava is huge! The staff are very friendly. What I enjoy the most is the location and interior. The shop is on a corner surrounded by large windows, so there is a lot of light. I love that they have seats and a counter along the window, and there are flowers out front to enjoy looking at. A great place to sit and chat. They are also open later, so this is an awesome place to work/study as well. Come check this place out.

Milyar Coffee came to the rescue tonight! We needed a little something to power through a few more hours of work, and their Yemeni Lattes were just the ticket. Smooth, flavorful, and definitely provided the extra focus we needed. The Biscoff cheesecake was also incredibly rich and delicious, a perfect little indulgence. Highly recommend Milyar for a quality caffeine fix and tasty treats!

Google
Yemeni Latte was amazingly infused with cinnamon and other herbs. Adeni tea was good too with its strong flavour. Baklava was delectable. We also tried the pistachio milk cake (tres leches). The space is pretty spacious and ambience is good for a sit down tea/coffee. Parking around is limited.

Yelp
The coffee drinks and food are yummy and the place is very pleasant and comfortable. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is cleanliness. Every time I have gone, the tables were not clean, and the restroom needed cleaning and refreshing.

Yelp
Beautiful cafe! Power outlets throughout the cafe. Delicious food and drinks. All drinks can be decaf! The barista was very nice. They changed shifts at 7? The guy working was super nice on a Sunday evening. Perfect place to study or get some work done. The best part is they open late until 10 or midnight sometimes.
google avatar

Yelp
Aesthetically this place is beautiful. Gorgeous place to study or get some work done. It was quite dirty with a lot of flies swarming around which is why I had to dock some stars. But given only one employee present I can see how it would be tough to maintain cleanliness. The bathroom was horrid. The pistachio latte was very good. Would give it a 8/10 for sure. If sweet drinks are your thing you will enjoy it. As for the honeycomb / pastry It wasn't for me. But to each their own.

Yelp
Ok wow that might have been the best baklava I've ever had (it was twice as big, photo taken post-bite), so fkin juicy!!!! But not soggy, so crisp. Pistachio latte was chill, didn't taste so different from a regular latte which was disappointing after trying the baklava. Ambiance was super nice.

Yelp
I came by to try them on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the rose latte, iced, 16oz, and pistachio latte, iced, 16oz. It was $7.75 for each of these drinks, no price difference for hot vs. iced. The cafe is pretty large inside with beautiful gold accents and a variety of seating options. It took over 10 mins for drinks, this might've been due to both some people having ordered ahead of me and also could possibly indicate the process of making the drinks took some time. I found the rose flavor comes through better and it gave the rose latte a really nice floral tint. But for the pistachio latte, I couldn't really taste the latte over the coffee, as someone who's very sensitive to the taste of coffee, so I preferred the rose latte over the pistachio.

Darienne J.

Yelp
Great coffee but the girl that works in the front with the glasses is actually rude as fuck I've been here about 3 times and each time her customer service gets worse idk if she was racist or what but that attitude fucking sucks
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Great coffee, good food, friendly people, and basically the only truly viable working cafe south of Ashby.

Yelp
This place was pretty cute! I got the saffron iced latte and it was alright. I'm sure other things on the menu taste better, but that drink really wasn't it. They do get high stars for the ambiance. The place is decorated beautifully. Very comfy seating. Outlets everywhere. Was a good place to study.

Yelp
What is going on with this explosion of Yemeni cafes in the bay? I mean I won't complain - I love milk cakes, large pots of caffeine, and non alcoholic spots open late-ish. If you've been to another Yemeni cafe, Milyar is pretty similar, but the decor/color scheme feels more fancy, and the space is huge. It does feel a bit cold and less cozy than other Yemeni cafes, but maybe that was just because it was pretty empty when I visited a year ago? Or maybe that's just how I was feeling.

Yelp
Came here for a quick breakfast pastry and coffee and ended up coming back every day we were in Oakland. The black coffee was delicious - classic but offering deep flavor. I also had a lavender latte with oat milk. They don't list alternative milks on their menu but they do have them! I really loved the spiced tea we got as well - I can't remember exactly what it was called but it had cardamom and cinnamon and was so perfectly cozy for a winter morning. In addition to drinks, we got baklava (of course) and another version of baklava that was less flaky/crunchy - I prefer the classic baklava. I thought the layers of the pastry offered amazing crunchy texture. The pistachio was generous. Finally, we got a halva to go and it was, like everything else, delicious!

Yelp
Initially I was really excited to visit Milyar Cafe. I had been eyeballing it for a while! Today it was about 9:30 am I was greeted with a bunch of gossip at the counter between the host at the register and a patron. I gather they knew each other well. It's their business to gossip so I proceeded to look at what I wanted on the menu. I received a phone call and walked outside to talk. My phone call was less than 5mins. I walk back in to order. They are still gossiping so I pull my wallet out to kinda hint I'm ready to order. Nope nothing. I also noticed their pastry case was empty. I left and took my business to Sweet Adeline down the street and had the complete opposite experience. I will try and give Milyar another shot. Frankly I am and was super disappointed :*\

Yelp
OK this place wasn't on the agenda this Saturday morning. After visiting Sweet Adeline, which by the way has the most delicious pastries, I decided to check out this coffee stop on the corner of Adeline that I saw. The inside decor is phenomenal. It has furniture that one would have at their home. Very pretty, very modern and giving the feel that this place just opened up. The drink options are various -I got a Cortado. I will say I liked that the person asked me what level of sweetness I wanted with my Cortado because I'm never usually asked and typically have to add my own couple packs of raw sugar. The barista served the best Cortado I've had outside of Spain. It was delicious, frothy, and with the right amount of sweetness. Definitely looking forward to patronizing this place again.

Yelp
The best kept secret ! Great drinks, cozy vibes , and all around the perfect spot to grab a book or knock out that WFH todo-list

Yelp
Hands down best Yemeni and Palestinian coffee & small bites. The pistachio latte is my favorite and I love the cone pastries. Even got myself an authentic Dubai chocolate bar and it's by far the best one I've had so far (but costs way too much to buy frequently ). I also love the cute shop and abundance of seating and decent street parking

Yelp
Milyar came onto my radar a few months ago when I was looking for a traditional Middle Eastern cafe. It has become a near weekly staple ever since my first sip! The coffee is great; delicious and strong. Though I am partial to hot coffee, their iced drinks have been very good as well. And their sweets are amazing. The business is also decorated very beautifully, making you feel as though you are having coffee in Dubai. Looking forward to my next stop!

Yelp
Finding parking near the cafe is a little difficult, but manageable with the street parking. The cafe overall has a nice modern aesthetic! I ordered a rose latte with the barista, and you can tell that they really put care into every drink that they're serving out. The rose latte itself was beautiful, and had the right amount of sweetness to coffee ratio--the milk balance was just right as well. Overall great place to study with nice drinks!

Yelp
Very cool progressive workers, pretty and relaxing environment, super affordable drinks. Very good place for hanging out

Yelp
Such a beautiful café right at the intersection of Adeline and Alcatraz. The interior is gorgeous and the furnishings are intricate and thoughtful. Feels like a high-end café with a great open space with folks chatting and working and relaxing. I was blown away by the space and the location, particularly the lighting and comfort. Plenty of seats too. My husband and I had the Yemeni latte with honey , iced and hot. So delicious and flavorful!

Yelp
The Good: Spacious, lovely decor, ambient music, comfortable seating, WiFi, varied assortment of Middle Eastern baked goods, pastries, and coffee. The Yemeni latte was very good. Nice mix of spices and strong coffee to jumpstart your day. The Bad: I had to go back up to the counter twice: the first time because they gave me the wrong bread (should be some way to distinguish between the potato and olive breads) and the second time because the bread was cold inside. Maybe I just caught them on their lunch break, because I remember seeing two persons (one busing tables and one behind the register), and then there was one. Not opposed to stopping by again, but I'll probably just stick with the coffee.

Yelp
Milyar Cafe opens late till 10 daily. It's genre is Yemeni sourced coffee, teas and associated pastries. Lots of indoor seating. Meticulous decor all around. Soft music in background. Quick courteous service. Paid. Food & covfefe brought to table of my choosing. Offerings: espressos, teas, covfefes, bakes, refreshers, Milyar specialities (pots of tea, covfefe). Drink: Yemeni latte (6.95) with almond milk+ -Yemeni roasted coffee beans fused with cardamon, ginger, honey, steamed milk, cinnamon. Sensational! Must sip to enjoy complexities, not a gulp & go average joe... Eats: coffee cake (4) -refrigerated cold. Was assured this was the customary method of serving. Didn't taste much of the egginess. Saffron nor cardamon nuances. Honey yes. Pairing with latte dissolved any shortcomings. Yemeni latte RULES! 4.5 stars fab covfefe/service, luxurious spread, many bakes to chose from.

Yelp
Not that impressed. They were out of almost all of their teas. Spinach turn over wasn't great either. Came out cold.

Yelp
I stopped by here with a friend. I was hoping to buy the viral Dubai chocolate but they didn't have any. I ended up ordering the baklava, which tasted great and the lavender midnight drink. The lavender midnight is a carbonated drink with syrup at the bottom. I had no idea of the carbonation prior to ordering. I thought it was some kind of lemonade lol. The drink itself was alright, I didn't really care for it but really enjoyed the baklava. My friend ordered a mocha and a dessert item. He said that the mocha was good. Service was great. The two ladies working were very helpful. The inside of Milyar is so beautiful. I really stopped by because of the pictures more than anything. Absolutely beautiful, I LOVE it. If anything, I'm coming back for the aesthetics and hopefully to try the Kanafeh bar.

Gerald R.

Yelp
OMG! This place so the pits. The service is soooo awful. Wow! Young rude indifferent women took her time getting to take food and drink orders and then got I wrong and said it was my fault.

Yelp
Awesome cafe with delicious pastries! Try the beehive, it's filled with cream cheese .. toasted to perfection and drizzled with honey. the yemeni latte was really good, subtle rich chocolate taste with a hint of spice, it was perfect iced and probably just as good hot. There's plenty of street parking, inside seating, and power outlets for work. I'm usually a grab and go but the place was so inviting we just hung out for a bit. There was one barista working a busy day and she was so kind! I will 100% be back for the beehive lol

Yelp
First visit here. Awesome first impression. Great hospitality, relaxing atmosphere and great drinks.

Sofia R.

Yelp
The young lady here with the beautiful lashes was the best. Very bubbly, amazing customer service. I ordered the habibi hibiscus. Hibiscus is great at supporting heart health, boosting liver health and It is rich in antioxidants. I will now be coming here for my fix. I also ordered the milk cake.
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
A truly unique delicacy of flavors from another country. Delicious coffees and cakes.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
Yemeni latte was delicious! I've had Turkish coffee once before and loved the cardamom. Yemeni latte hit the spot just right! I got it iced, so the honey sat at the bottom and needed to be mixed up a bit more, but that wasn't a huge issue. Might get it hot next time. It's one of those drinks that satisfy my cravings just right that when I come again I'm not sure how likely I'd get a new cup to try; I'd most likely stick with the Yemeni since I'm already craving the taste again already. The spinach pie was great. The many other pastries look delicious as well. My boyfriend liked his pistachio latte. Most importantly, the service was great. I unfortunately ran into payment issues during my visit, but the staff at the front was very patient and forgiving. The cafe is beautiful and elevated in its aesthetics. Will definitely stop by again!
google avatar

Maureen Z.

Yelp
As someone always on the lookout for a nice cafe, this place definitely hits all the marks! The tea is so warm and aromatic, the desserts are so rich, and they even gave us a pastry on the house for no specific reason. They are so kind here, and even checked in with us to make sure the WiFi was working. Plus, there are lots of tables and booths to sit at.
google avatar

Circadian R.

Yelp
The decor is great, and the coffee is fantastic--probably the highlight of this place. The pastries are decent, but the real issue here is cleanliness, which seriously detracts from the experience. The floors are never swept or mopped, and the bathroom is consistently filthy. It's disheartening to see such poor hygiene standards, especially given how good the coffee is. I visited right after they opened, hoping for a clean start to the day, but the trash bins were already full, and the sink, floors, and toilet were in an atrocious state. It's a stark and unpleasant contrast to the quality of the coffee and the ambiance in the main space. If they could address these hygiene concerns, it would make a huge difference.
google avatar

Chelsea C.

Yelp
Their bathroom is never cleaned. I've gone here so many times, and they don't keep the toilet paper or the paper dispenser stocked. They don't clean the restrooms. The trash is always full, and there's no hourly mopping, so pee is always on the floor. There's no female canister to throw away lady products. Their one bathroom doesn't have a cleaning regeiment. It's always absolutely disgusting here. It's absolutely unhygienic. The floor in the main dining area is never swept properly. Just look around the base boards and in the feont of the shop so much dust. The food is good though.

Jazmin R.

Yelp
The coffee was good and lots of open seating and outlets. Service was okay. Staff seemed distracted among themselves.
google avatar

S O.

Yelp
Cute cafe with yummy baklava, fun music, and you can bring your own games in to play, or play the games they provide (backgammon, etc). I like the casual, easygoing vibe.

Nick B.

Yelp
I enjoy the ambiance here - very positive. The menu is unique and expansive. Adam was particularly responsive and friendly.
google avatar

Dusty R.

Yelp
Yum. The pastries are amazing (baklava!) and the coffee is even better. Pistachio latte is creamy, rich and fragrant. Even the drip coffee is lush and aromatic and delicious. It's a beautifu, chic and roomy cafe!

Koala909 C.

Yelp
Good food and drink come in good price. Nice and fancy interiors. Bathroom was a bit filthy... honestly.

Yelp
Beautiful space, great coffee, and delicious Turkish delights! My husband loves Mochas and has ordered one from basically every cafe in Berkeley. After having 2 mochas from Milyar, he claims it's the best mocha in Berkeley. I truly enjoyed my Yemeni latte! And I cannot wait to order another Turkish delight. We didn't try their other desserts and pastries but they looked fantastic. My one suggestion would be to add labels under the pastries so we would know the name of it to be able to order them. The space is so well designed too. The booths are incredibly comfortable, and perfect for meeting up with friends.
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
Authentic and cozy café, great prices, interesting coffee (and I am very picky when it comes to espresso and cappuccinos), and one of the best baklava in the area! I don't want this post to become political, but that's why we can't have nice things. This little gem has suffered a lot since the beginning and lately there has been an attempted break in with half of their huge glass windows shattered and broken. Way to go Oakland / Berkeley for welcoming a small business in the area.. Come support this business! They will serve a unique Middle Eastern tea on this cold, rainy day to cheer you up.
google avatar

Doc R.

Yelp
This is my favorite Yemeni coffee place in the East Bay. Their signature tea drinks are really good. My favorite is the iced Adeni chai tea (with regular sweetness). Their pistachio (cheesecake?) is reaaalllyy good. The service is friendly and professional and the ambiance is nice (classy and modern) but also really chill. People come here to socialize, study, do work, play chess, etc. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more of their traditional pastries and drinks.
google avatar

Alexandra B.

Yelp
Love this cafe. They have delicious teas, coffees and lots of baked treats. The employees are always so friendly and helpful. It's is beautiful inside
google avatar

Chloe E.

Yelp
Very excellent service and friendly staff! The surrounding area is so pretty and I love the seating available. The food was new for me and I was not sure what to expect but it was super yummy! So was the yemeni coffee.
google avatar

Abdullah E.

Yelp
A beautiful coffee house. Coffee is great, and they use all Yemeni beans that give the coffee great taste and kick. The space is open with plenty of space and tables, as well as beautiful Arabic furniture for big parties. They serve big pots of coffee in case you're thinking about bringing your friends. Service is great and quick, the art on the wall I'd beautiful, and the atmosphere is chill. You'd forget you'd been there for hours from the ambiance.
google avatar

S S.

Yelp
Ambiance is outstanding. The table are spacies generously and the overall decor with all the gold, black, and while is surprisingly elegant. We share a pot of the qahwah, Arabic coffee and it was very light (almost yellow) and quite good. In addition to the coffee we split the cheese bread and the beehive. Both were very tasty although both could have been warmer. The customer service was solid and the server offered good suggestions. It could have been warmer, but it was efficient and on point. I'd come back again. Next time I'll remember to ask for the pastry extra warm.

Adriana V.

Yelp
Barista was very nice and offered to fill my water bottle. Also very nice cafe and easy to work here.

Basheer M.

Yelp
Great Coffee Spot in Berkeley Milyar Cafe in Berkeley serves up fantastic coffee with a cozy atmosphere. The lattes are the best, the espressos are strong, and the cold brew hits the spot. It's a perfect place to relax with friends or get some work done. The staff is friendly and the pastries are very good--definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE MILYAR!! The guy who works there he is so kind and always knows exactly how I want my coffee to be. I love how clean the café is and honestly I can go and study, truly is my favorite place to relax in! I highly recommend the guy who makes my coffee you will not be disappointed by him! Anyone looking for a great ambiance and also food, run to milyar.
google avatar

Andina A.

Yelp
Like all of the other Yemeni cafes this one has great coffee and food! But the place seemed to have been momentarily abandoned when I visited! The cashier was no where to be seen, and the restroom was in a terrible state, not even a shred of toilet paper and it needed to be seriously cleaned. Not sure what is up here but they need to hire some good and plentiful staff!
