Mimi Cheng's Dumplings

We went out of recommendation because their dumplings were praised heavily. When we first walked we noticed right away that the place was empty but didn’t think much of it. Their menu was tiny so we decided to get 2 entrees and 1 order of Pork and Chives dumplings. The dumplings were disappointing since they lacked flavor and were AT BEST mediocre. One of the entrees we got was the Mapo Tofu Udon Noodles, the flavor wasn’t bad at all but it tasted like a basic italian spaghetti dish with meat sauce. The only saving grace of the entire meal was the Chicken and Rice entree that we got. It was the insurance entree because it’s impossible to get chicken and rice wrong. The flavor of the chicken was so good, super tender and the rice and veggies complemented the chicken well. Overall, I would not recommend this location simply because it was not worth the hype.

Really cute place. You can see a lady making the dumplings. I got the 50/50. Service was fast and the person that took my order cooked my dumplings and delivered them to my table. He was really nice. I did not like the flavor of the dumplings. I could taste vinegar in the dipping sauce. When I was given my dumplings they did tell me which has which. Anyway if friends wanted to go I would go but probably not on my own.

Went for dinner on a weekday. The dumplings were excellent, including the veggie option. The meat tasted a little old, but the rice was delicious, and serving size was also good by price. Some parts of the restaurant were mildly dirty, but the interior design was wonderful, though unexpected. Service was quick and helpful. I would visit again.

I love Mimi Cheng’s! I’ve loved everything I’ve tried and look forward to the monthly specials (I got the empanada & matzoh ball), favorites off the reg menu: boiled dumplings overall - chicken, pork, veggie are all great, scallion pancakes, and either greens or cucumber. I’ve mostly gone to the location but just did delivery and everything was great! Price is worth it, the ingredients are fresh and you don’t feel bad eating it. 10/10

The staff was super attentive and offered to bring my food to my table and the dumplings were outstanding. I passed by on my way home and might have to make this my new routine. The dipping sauce was the cherry on top. The scallion pancake was sooo good and cucumber salad was a spicy delicious treat to pair with my dumplings. The 50/50 was such a great way to try both the pork and chicken and so glad the team recommended it.

This place is OK. Not the best dumplings, not the worst. 🥟 Got the chicken 🐔 dumplings (the original Mimi Cheng's Dumplings) and the veggie 🥬 dumplings (Mighty Veggie 2.0 Dumplings) and they were fine but dry and pretty pricey 💸. The veggie dumplings were far better than the chicken ones. Staff was super friendly and professional, and the service was great. I wish their dumplings were cheaper and more fresh!

Place was clean and quaint. 3 cup chicken was good. Chicken was moist and flavorful. Rice and bokchoy were hot and fresh. Star of the show for me was the service. Came here on a Tuesday afternoon. Eddie was putting on a one man show. Cooking and serving with great care. Kudos!

Freshly made, high quality dumplings! I would normally opt for pork dumplings, but I tried Mimi Cheng’s signature chicken ones and they were great. A tad expensive. I debated ordering the cucumbers or scallion pancake as a side—the pancake’s texture was perfect but there were hardly any scallions? This was disappointing given pricing. I also told the cashier it would be to eat there, but my order was still packaged with plastic containers in a bag to go which felt a bit wasteful. otherwise the staff were very friendly and they have a nice clean space.

My friends and I were having a little staycation in the Upper West Side and was thrilled to see there was a Mimi's up here! The last time I had been to one was 2020, so definitely had to stop by! We went for dinner and there wasn't a line. My friends got the chicken and chive and pork and chive dumplings. I ended up getting the monthly special which was the caprese. 10/10! Had to get a Spindrift too of course, forgot how good raspberry lime was.

So I have been to the OG location downtown but the UWS location is pretty close to where I work so I ordered delivery from them. Food came on time and perfectly hot. I ordered a cup of bone broth with crispy shallots and chili oil. Wow, it was good, perfect for a cold day like today. The chili oil has a kick so next time, and yes, there will be a next time, I will ask for it on the side. And now, the piece de resistance, the once a year thanksgiving dumplings that I finally got to try!! OMG-they are amazing, like a warm hug! The homemade cranberry sauce is like icing on the cake lol. They're crispy, seasoned perfectly and even garnished with chopped fresh herbs. As we speak, I'm staring at my last dumpling and knowing I'm going to want them again soon lol. If you happen to find yourself in NY in November, run, and stop by Mimi Cheng's. You will thank me lol

Stopped by after walking around all day for a quick bite. You order and pay at the counter and can grab a seat where available. Got the mimi cheng original dumplings which contain chicken and zucchini. It was light and hit the spot.

These were pretty hecking good, guys. Definitely on the pricier end-- when all was said and done, the one order of pork and chive dumplings were around $17 for 8 of them, which... OOH WEE am I right. But they were slightly larger than normal dumplings are which made sure that I was full after I finished eating them. I would describe these as delicate. That's the word that keeps coming to mind. They have a ton of flavor, the skin isn't too thick, and there's a nice crunch that comes with the fry (if you eat it immediately). The sauce it comes with is also this spiced chili oil sauce almost, not the usual soy sauce for dipping. I'm a spice weakling and could handle it so no worries there. It was just enough for there to be some flavor that went really well with the dumplings. There were some other reviews that said the service wasn't great. I would agree, but for me it wasn't in an obvious way. It wasn't what they said but how they said it. I had ordered online and when I came in to pick up my order, they somehow made me feel like I was in the wrong for coming in to pick up an order I'd already paid for. I don't really know, but at any rate, these were good and I'd get them again for sure.

The food and services were AMAZING !!! The young lady recommended me the chicken + rice and a scallion pancake. What a combo to be had . I recommend you try these amazing items . I will definitely be back for more . TWO THUMBS UP

Thee worst run restaurant in NYC this place is a joke!!!! Owner making dumplings oblivious to the 10+ people waiting for their orders, now asking for refunds... it's nuts

Was really looking forward to these noodles, but was really disappointed. Not only were they not spicy, they were super dry! Additionally, they don't have any protein, so they really lacked in flavor. Service was so so. I called to ask what the status on my delivery was, and got a pretty helpless response.

A nice taiwanese place on the uws with really cute decor! I came here on a Thursday evening around 7:30pm in a group of 3, and we had a good time. It got busier as it hit around 8pm, and there were a lot of takeout orders. You just go up to the counter to order. We tried their mimi chengs dumplings, chicken and rice, taiwanese street cart greens, and their 12 hour organic chicken bone broth. I actually really liked the taste of the chicken bone broth, it reminded me of the one my mom makes. It had a lot of flavor, and made me wish I'd ordered the version with noodles. However, I do think it's overpriced for the quantity that we got. Everything else was just ok and also overpriced, but we still enjoyed our meal. This is a good option if you're looking for a satisfying, quick meal!

Hands down the best dumplings in UWS. Dare I say in all of Manhattan? Mimi's dumplings are priced on the higher side but it's because they're food is made pasture-raised pork, organic chicken, organic and/or local vegetables, extra virgin olive oil, and non-gmo sunflower oil. They're also very large in size, llooks almost like 2 (Siamese) dumplings in one so you'll for sure be full. I had the pork and chives and it was delicious. Once you've tasted clean, pasture-raised pork, you can never eat shmegular pork again. The dipping sauce was packed with flavor! Not the typical watered down soy sauce & vinegar that most places will serve you. I also tried their organic chicken & rice. Amazing! Hands down their signature dish - if not the dumplings. Even the employees said it's their favorite. The seasoning is quintessential Asian style cooking. I took my first bite and I immediately thought of my mom - clean, not at all heavy/greasy/processed, homemade cooking. The gravy on the jasmine rice with the vegetables completes the dish so well. Finally, look at their packaging. Can this place be any more perfect?

Sad to report it is pretty mediocre. Small portions, high prices for take out that was not very flavorful. Tried boiled and pan fried dumpling, veggies, and noodles.

Tried this place on a whim and was not disappointed. Inside is narrow and not very big. They also don't sell drinks, so make sure to bring your own. Found this issue a bit weird. Their menu selection is nominal, but their dumplings are delicate and pack a good flavor punch. They also sell noodles and bowls, but dumpling is in the name of the place. I'll probably at some point try other menu items. I tried both the pork and chives dumplings and the vegetable dumpling.You have the option for either pan fried or boiled. I chose the pan fried. Both were good, but the pork and chive dumplings were superior. The dumpling favor was subtle. The chives really shine in this dumpling. The pork had great flavor, too. The wonton that they were wrapped in is thin and not too thick. Some places have thick wontons and are gluey. These are not. The soy sauce seems to be spiked by some chili peppers. It's not overly spicy, which is nice. The sauce really did compliment the dumplings. The vegetable ones are not my thing, but my partner is vegetarian. I preferred the pork, of course. You get eight dumplings in an order. Give this place a try and see what you think. Dumplings seem to be the next rising star in the foodie world. So enjoy some dumplings with your friends or partner. Or, just go by yourself, bring a book, and have a few tasty dumplings. Either way, you'll enjoy your time.

I had the vegetable dumplings here. While the flavor was alright, the price was far too high, especially since the portions are relatively small. I can't recommend this restaurant due to the relatively high cost.

I have been to Mimi's a few times over the last year or so, usually when I am in the area for a concert. The dumplings are amazing - always fresh and tasty. Try the scallion pancakes as well - some of the best I've ever had. The issue I have is with the restaurant itself. I realize it is mostly a takeout place. However, there are only a few tables and a few benches and chairs to sit. There are a bunch of seats, but not enough tables, so people end up eating in their laps if they stay and eat. Also, the place is really dirty. The tables and chairs are all very sticky, and the dining room needs a deep cleaning, and probably a new coat of paint. As good as the food is, the dining room is just gross. I saw several people come in to sit, and ask for to go bags once they saw how dirty things were. If they could clean up the dining area, I think they would increase their business in a huge way.

Unfortunately this is my last time coming here. I ordered the chicken over rice which is a take out order of bland chicken, unseasoned greens and watery sticky rice that tasted days old. I had high hopes for the signature dish since it was recommended by the gentleman in the front, the chicken was super dry, no sauce was included in my order. To make matters worse, the rice was luke warm. 17 dollars to the trash, couldn't finish the dish as it was inedible, I'm not a person to bash companies, but inedible food for 17 dollars is outrageous. Also not seeing no letter grade should've been my first sign to run away.

The landline number for MIMI CHENG'd UWS is NEVER answered, we have tried calling multiple times for questions about the menu or hours and it rings and rings and then a recording says the mailbox is full. Have mentioned it several times when picking up food to please have the phone checked out, but it just doesn't seem to trickle up to whenever is managing this location. If this is (646) 344-1030 not the store's number it should be updated on the website. If it is, please answer the phone during business hours. Thanks!

Very friendly staff and food was quick and delicious. Store was intimate and cozy. Limited menu, but things ordered were really good. Wait wasn't too long for food to come out.

Food is very ordinary. Amateurishly done. I had no feelings that they care about customers. Would not recommend at all.

I was really excited to see a dumpling place open up in the neighborhood and finally tried it for the first time this month. There is a reason why this place is called Mimi Cheng's "Dumplings." The first time, we ordered the following for a meal for 2: - Mimi Cheng Dumplings ($13.15+) - Scallion Pancakes ($6.50+) - Egg Fried Rice ($9.95+) We enjoyed the Mimi Cheng Dumplings, the Scallion Pancakes were fine (although they didn't have much scallions) and the Egg Fried Rice was too salty. We were informed they changed the recipe for the fried rice, so we went to try it again last night. This time, we ordered: - Mimi Cheng Dumplings ($13.15+) - Egg Fried Rice ($9.95+) - 12-Hour Organic Chicken Noodle Soup ($14.95+) The Mimi Cheng Dumplings were still very tasty and flavorful, with fresh ingredients including organic chicken, fresh zucchini, scallions and freshly grated ginger. The Egg Fried Rice was completely different from the first time we had it. This time, it was edible but went the other extreme and actually didn't have much flavor, so we had to add salt--which is definitely better than it being too salty, but there should be a happy medium. With the 12-Hour Organic Chicken Noodle Soup, each of the ingredients was good, but the soup was missing oomph. The organic chicken meatballs had a strong celery flavor, which I hadn't expected but quite enjoyed. The bok choy tasted fresh and also added good flavor. The "crispy" shallots weren't crispy by the time we ate it and probably would have been better to have added on the side, but it wasn't a big deal. What was missing was a richness in the chicken broth itself. I would recommend the dumplings, but can't say the same for the rest.

The 3rd location just opened on the Upper West Side in a great location right around the corner from the original Levain. They have the same great stuff from the downtown locations, so definitely get either the classic Mimi Cheng's chicken dumplings or the Pork, plus the Dan Dan Noodles for an excellent meal. I'm guessing they'll probably bring the monthly specials up to this location soon too, which are always a must try.

So you know how I feel about their dumplings b/c I basically stalk the 2nd ave location whenever I go to the movies which is A LOT! I jumped for joy when I realized there was a location by my job. The dumplings & scallion pancake are still tasty cakes. I've tried expanded my pallet to the chicken & rice and I enjoyed it, I only need one scoop of rice...maybe just a half of one. It's a lot, so you'll be happy. So why not the 5 stars? They only give you 6 dumplings...I'm use to 8 at the other locations. Soooo not cool. But I still end up here when the mood hits...lol!

Mimi Cheng's, hand made Taiwanese dumplings. A business started with the intent to duplicate the taste of a mother's cooking and her love for her children. I had read so many wonderful things about Mimi Chang's that we had to try them. Coming from the West Coast we can get great dumplings so many places so perhaps it's unfair to compare Mimi Cheng's to those other establishments but we found Mimi's dumplings to be a bit bland. The wrappers also didn't stick together - almost every dumpling opened up, spilling out the filling onto our plates as we tried to eat them. The cucumber salad was cold, crisp, and delicious - a definite must eat. I'd like another cup of that right now! But overall, this was disappointing when compared with other dumplings we've had and we won't go back.

I got the pork and chive dumplings and they were amazing but a bit over priced. Also chili oil is about $2 which I might over look if it was good chili oil but tbh it wasn't. Yummy spot but definitely better in the city.

Wow! So much improvement from my last visit. My dumplings were ever so juicy. I came here after work on a Friday after visiting one of their other locations only to find out that they sold out of the June special. So I made a trip back Uptown a lil hesitant because of my last experience, but because I was blessed with receiving a gift card from MiMi Cheng's, I thought its only fair we give them a second shot! They did not disappoint. My friend and I was so happy with what we received that of course we ordered more to take home. I have always really enjoyed their dumplings and this time it was even better. My dumplings were filled to the max. They were cooked well, nice and crispy. The staff was awesome and I can now say that this location can be my go to. I hope they will keep things together. F.Y.I.- yes the dumplings are pricey but so worth in value, taste and quality. Yes the June dumplings are about $20 bucks, but keep in mind crabmeat is expensive and its New York everything is becoming pricey. Go early if you want the June special, they may sell out of them.

Was not impressed. Not only did my friend comment about how expensive the dumplings were when we ordered, he also said the same thing after eating them. Not a good sign if that's all that stands out. It's about $12 for an order of 6 dumplings. We ordered the 50/50 and chose the Mimi Chemg's and the pork and chive. They were good but nothing to rave about. I preferred eating without the sauce. It was fun watching a woman make the dumplings though! However, I'm not sure the employees cell phone chargers should be in the same area. As an employee pulled out the chargers one wire landed in a bowl of flour.

Mimi would not be proud. Relatively tasteless dumplings in fall apart wrappers. Rice noodles in tasteless chicken soup fall apart and defy either chop sticks or a spoon to retrieve from the uninspired broth. What a disappointment.

I absolutely love the dumplings here. The service is excellent as well. The only negative I would point out is the dan dan noodles. They do not taste like traditional asian dan dan noodles. They're like spicy noodles you would get at a vegan/vegetarian spot. I recommend the pork & chive dumplings.

I wanted a homemade chicken bone broth soup. This was delicious. Now unfortunately it didn't come with the chicken meatballs or topping. But it was a good base! I ended up adding the chicken dumplings. The scallion pancakes and cucumber salad were also delicious.

Meh. I would not recommend this place, esp when there is so much other good Chinese and Taiwanese food in the city. The pork and chive steamed dumplings were probably the best though pretty standard. I was not a fan of the chicken mix they use for the chicken dumplings or the chicken soup. Not sure I would come back.

LOVE Mimi Cheng's & so happy to have one in the neighborhood now! All 3 of the major dumpling flavors (chicken/zucchini, pork/chive, veggie) are delicious, I'm really looking forward to whenever the seasonal/rotating options are available at this location as well. I prefer the pan-fried over the boiled because they get nice & crispy on the outside. Also highly recommend the scallion pancakes. We tried the Dan Dan noodles & they definitely have a kick here!! Less peanut sauce & more spice than others I've tried elsewhere, they also use buckwheat soba in the ones here & include greens. I didn't see an option to order ahead online, but it was a quick wait to go in and order. They are currently limiting the inside capacity to 9 patrons. This location just opened up a few days ago, great time to go show support!

Excellent addition to the neighborhood! Also, To those with a sesame seed allergy like I do, no worries here!! Fried Pork and chive dumplings: thin, slightly chewy with a crispy fried layer of dough. Great filling to wrap ratio, with a rich texture and complex taste. You get 8 per order, but it will feel like less with how quickly you'll go through them! The dumpling sauce is also a star here, with a sharper saltiness with more of a vinegar-y taste. Great complement to the pork and chive! Scallion pancakes: honestly, they're fine? The stars are the dumplings here, so save your cash for another order of dumplings. Looking forward to my next visit!

Not a food genre I am familiar with, but it was delicious. Split a dumpling combo and had a bowl of rice. Possibly the best rice I've ever had. We ate in at one of the 10 or so tables. Loved the eclectic soundtrack. A bit of reggae, jazz, and retro. Bright space - simple but functional. Would definitely consider coming back if in the neighborhood again.

Waited 20 minutes (we timed it!) in this completely empty place, at a disgustingly sticky table, to receive $15 dumplings that tasted no better than microwavable ones from trader joe's. I would only recommend this to my worst enemies

Oof. If you want authentic dumplings or noodles, this isn't it. I get that it's right in uptown Manhattan, but it's a poor representation of what any real Taiwanese food is. We ordered the Dan Dan noodles, chicken zucchini dumplings, and pork chive dumplings (both pan fried). The star is only because, at the very least, there was some juice coming out of the dumplings. Compared to what you can get from Chinatown/Flushing/Elmhurst though, these paled so much in comparison. The Dan Dan noodles were surprisingly spicy, but didn't taste like authentic Dan Dan noodles. The chicken zucchini dumplings were EXTREMELY mushy... And then the pork chive dumplings were so bland, even the chili oil couldn't save them. The included chili oil itself was missing that kick, so it was disappointing. The portions were also tiny for the price - basically 2 bucks for each small dumpling! It felt like highway robbery. We only visited because the Thai place next door was so packed and we were on a time crunch, but we ended up walking a few blocks down to Joe's Steam Rice Rolls because we were still hungry and had time left. Honestly, just skip this place and walk a few blocks down for something better, that's what I'd do next time.

It is very hard to screw up dumplings and noodles because they are so simple, but this place definitely opened my eyes. My 4-year-old at home could make better dumplings than this. AVOID At ALL COST!

Totally disappointed! The fillings lacked flavors and texture. Ingredients (fillings) do not taste fresh. Prices were on the expensive side. The dumplings are not authentic per se, any homemade dumplings from an Asian household are better than this. I would recommend skipping Mimi Cheng's and just get dumplings from Chinatown - so many better choices for way cheaper price.

Besides charging $13 for buckwheat noodles, does anyone realize that Dan Dan noodles should have minced pork, pickled cabbage and crushed peanuts as the key components of the sauce?!! The sauce used here is sesame cold noodle sauce plus spices! Wrong sauce buddy! Don't call it Dan Dan noodles if it's not Szechuan style. Call it Taiwanese noodles or something. I can't say this is "bad". But not good. Not authentic At all Disappointed

The food was delicious and exactly what I was looking for. Had two types of dumplings (steamed) and the cucumber salad which was perfect. The service was bad, just not anything exceptional. Good quick lunch spot too!

I used to trek all the way downtown for Mimi Cheng's monthly dumpling specials, so when I found out they were opening a location here in my neighborhood I couldn't have been happier! I was literally there on opening day, and since then I find myself ordering all the time. Their unique and unexpected monthly dumpling specials are NOT to be missed - recent favorites included the Matzoh Ball Soup Dumplings, the Crab Cake Dumplings, and the Emmy Cheeseburger Dumplings. I also looooove their veggie and pork dumplings off the regular menu, and their scallion pancakes are perfectly flaky and delicious without being greasy. Such an incredible addition to the neighborhood!

The best thing about this place is that it's very close to my apartment. The dumplings were mediocre at best. We ordered take out for a whole slew of dumplings ranging from the special, the pork and chive, and the chicken. My favorite was the pork and chive but that's not saying much. The dumplings overall were very salty, yet under seasoned? My stomach was very upset after eating here and I was so hoping to love it because who doesn't love dumplings less than 5 blocks from your house! Will unlikely be back unfortunately.

food was SCRUMPTIOUS!!!! the place is yellow and cheerful and very cutely decorated. I ordered the chicken and veggie dumplings and they were both amazing. service was good except took a bit of a while but totally worth it!

**UPDATE** It took several weeks but I was finally issued a refund and I was able to try their dumplings! Note: they use DoorDash's API to fulfill online orders, which I think is the big mistake here... Had the dumplings, and they were solid. Nothing incredible, but not average either, just a nice solid meal. I'll go back in a pinch if I need a good and quick meal!

Food was really good. Service was horrific. We ordered a huge amount of food and sat down to eat at a human pace outside. A young woman came out at exactly 8:30 to inform us rudely that they were closing. As we were wrapping up she came back out at 8:34 to start snatching our plates away rudely informing us, "I told you five minutes ago that we were closing." So rude it would almost be funny. But sadly, now they get a bad review and unfunnily we will not be back.

Not impressed whatsoever. Overpriced for what they serve. An order of dumplings was $12, and they tasted like they came out of a frozen bag. Noodles not great either. I can see charging that much at a nice place, but you order at the counter and the seating area is equivalent to Popeye's. Go to Xian Famous. Its 10 times better.

I never post reviews but this was so bad and the reviews here must be by family and friends... let's have some honesty .. I was excited to try this new place Ordered dumplings for pick up They were completely burnt... not a little burnt .. see photo Got a replacement and sorry to say the pork & chive dumpling was more like chives with some pork specks... but the most disappointing part is that the flavor was really unpleasant.... They sent a scallion pancake as a freebie (nice touch) and wow even worse than the dumplings Sorry to see people open up, spend their hard earned money and completely miss. Very sad to say I would not eat here for free!

Thanks Mimi Chengs, Service was great the young woman who took care of me was excellent while being the only one in the store at the moment, had to wait a couple extra minutes but the food was worth it! I had the pork and chives dumplings and a scallion pancake. It was very delicious the pancake was crispy and chewy and the dumplings were cooked perfectly. Definitely will be back at UWS!

I love hand-made dumplings! Even at home, it's labor intensive, so I was super happy that this place opened up near me. I tried the pork and chives dumplings, and their organic chicken broth. YUM! I want organic food when I go out and eat. So glad that this place serves organic/ grass-fed meats, because this is very important to me.

Honestly, one of the worst take out dining experiences I've had in New York. After paying $40 for 8 dumplings, noodles, and greens I could not believe what I saw when I opened the boxes. Small, mushy dumplings and a small portion of greasy, gloppy stuck together noodles and oily greens. The taste was not quite as bad as the appearance but honestly not good at all. I could have gotten an order of noodles four times the size and four times as good for the same price next door at Sala Thai. What a waste of money. .
