During COVID I am rating restaurants a bit higher than I would usually since they are all struggling to survive. Mine Oyster is more like a 3.5 - but it could be rated higher if you order the right food items, which some of us in our party of five did not.
We called ahead to see if we could get a reservation and they said they typically only reserve tables for parties of 8 or more. But they made an exception for the five of us and our table on the upstairs deck was ready when we arrived at 6:45pm. From a COVID-safe perspective the tables were socially distanced and the waitstaff all work masks but many of the other customers (a number whom were dining inside) did not wear masks when walking about.
Our family with teenagers/young adults ordered a very mixed bag of dishes, reflecting the younger set's reluctance to order more seafood, despite my pointing out that one is wisest to stick to ordering seafood when at a seafood restaurant. The nachos with chicken appetizer was excellent, however, the baby back ribs were just okay - the bbq sauce was too sweet and the ribs were dry/not moist tender. The child that ordered the korean pork belly tacos found them to be almost inedible. Whatever sauce they put on the pork belly was very salty/spicy and not a good flavor (but again, who orders Asian-flavored pork at a seafood restaurant?). Surprisingly, we found we had been given a Taka (place next door) menu from which we could order sushi to accompany items from the very extensive Mine Oyster menu.
The higher-quality items for the evening, although not perfect, included the shrimp tempura roll (excellent - and served with warm soy sauce which is definitely appreciated), the poke tuna avocado seaweed salad appetizer (really wonderful preparation and I'd say the best item of the evening, I'd go back just for that and it would be even better if served with some won ton chips), the wood fire grilled lobster (the lobster tail was delicious but the claws were cold and not grilled - being still inside their shell - it seems there should be a way to grill/warm up the claws), and the wasabi-crusted bluefin tuna (my husband said it was very good, but not the best preparation he's ever had).
So, all in all, a decent meal at Mine Oyster and we'd go back for the chicken nachos, shrimp tempura roll, and poke tuna avocado appetizer for sure.
