We ate here about 5 years and were disappointed. Decided to give them another chance. Has not improved. Chicken with broccoli had almost no flavor. Beef with vegetables was also pretty bland. Dining room is closed. Will not be reordering.

Google
Two strikes and they’re out - overcooked my food badly twice! Heard great things on my quest to try every Chinese place in town, and the first time they outright burned my food. Hearing such great reviews I thought it must be a fluke, but I came back and my food was yet again way over cooked. Last time I couldn’t eat all of it due to the burning, this time it was legitimately hard to chew the General Tso’s it was so well done. Potentially due to poor quality chicken with a ton of breading… I like that they use a good bit of pepper, but two strikes is all they’ll get from me for $15 for chef Specialty plates. I thought the fried rice was somewhat bland too. Maybe I’m the unlucky one, but they’re 0/2 with me.

Google
Ming tree is the best Chinese food in town. Love their family style portions and they are always so kind. The thing I love most of all of that they take time off during Thanksgiving and Christmas and close for a nice long break to get quality time with their family. Love you all!

Google
The best Chinese food in Tallahassee! The interiors are not fancy but the food is delicious and simple. It has been our staple to go Chinese restaurant for a few years. Our family favorites include the Hunan Chicken and Pepper Steak.

Google
A spicy stew! A spicy stew! Delicious Szechuan bean curd! A spicy stew!!! Ming Tree is one of the few places in Tallahassee where you can get authentic delicious Chinese cuisine. If you like that deep fried general tso's garbage, go elsewhere. I like to try a new dish every time I go. Although, the Kung Pao shrimp might have captured my heart for a little while. And szechuan fish is a go to also. All the dishes I've had from this restaurant are spiced to perfection & layered with flavor. The customer service is also very authentic. Lol. IYKYK.

Google
Minus one star for bugs in our water. Minus another star for no dumplings on the menu (even though there is a category called "dim sum"). The Ming Tree has a long history in Tallahassee in various locations and this location carries on the name. Bring your own beer or wine. This is a low-key restaurant in a tucked away strip mall. The food is very flavorful and the service is efficient. Take out is available, as is table service.

Google
As a first time customer, I am severely disappointed with Ming Tree. The chicken and broccoli came in a water sauce and the chicken was undercooked, since I am pregnant, I could not enjoy the semi-cooked chicken dish and I am glad I checked before eating. The fried rice was dry and bland. The egg roll was the best part of the meal. Portion sizes are standard too. I would normally give a restaurant a second chance but the uncooked chicken coupled with the unpleasant waitress over the phone, I will probably stick with Emerald Garden.

Google
Some of the best & largest (nearly a half gallon) servings of chicken noodle soup in Tally! Wish they offered nutritional breakdown.

Yelp
The food is one of the best in Tallahassee. I just wish it was closer to where I live, but then again maybe that's a good thing, lol.

Yelp
Excellent Chinese food, fantastic Chinese dishes. The Americanized Chinese dishes aren't the best, but the real deal is fantastic. I love their Mapo Tofu. Service is quick and efficient.

Marry B.

Yelp
The service very bad and rude, their Food is not good as it used to be, chicken is very tuff, lots of chunky and fat in it and the sauce Is very lite, last time i found a long human hair inside the sauce, that set no more eating from there.
google avatar

Val N.

Yelp
The food is all take-away. You pull up, a person comes out and gives you a menu and takes your order. It is hot and well prepared. All of the items on the menu are standard for this type of restaurant. When you are hungry, it fits the bill.
google avatar

Candy M.

Yelp
Take out only. Food is always hot and good. Good size portions. Very sweet staff. Call ahead.
google avatar

Yelp
FANTASTIC. Can't say enough about this place. They offer American Chinese as well as authentic Chinese. Give it a try. It worth it.

Yelp
Curbside pick up only! Food was terrible! Chicken looked and tasted like like ???? ! Food was not edible
google avatar

Wendy A.

Yelp
Good food take out only...options are great for me but this place is a Killearn take out friendly joint ONLY!! I kinda don't know what she does but certain days...I look at my kids and I'm like it's a Ming Tree kinda night. It's like that with Ming Tree for real! If you know you know. If you don't...and you live near Killearn...check it out!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been hearing about this place for quite a while but due to them only doing take out and their hours of 3:00-9:00 it has been hard to get to. But.......worth the wait!! We ordered the General Tso's chicken and it was none other I have ever had before. A little sweet a little spicy and delicious. We also got the beef lo mein. The meat was melt in your mouth tender and noodles were tasty. We will be going back again soon. I ordered and just pulled up to the restaurant and they came right out. The woman working was hustling it going car to car and was very friendly. Go get you some!

Yelp
Always fresh and wonderfully prepared. I have been a fan since the Parkway days. I'm

Kristy H.

Yelp
Very disappointed after all the good reviews. General Tso was dry, not 1 vegetable with it, no sauce and over breaded. It was large chunks of chicken, just heavy breaded. Fried rice was eeehhh.. plain and no sauce with the meal to add to it.
google avatar

Yelp
Really loved trying this place for the first time the other night. Very Covid friendly. The person who brought out our food wore a mask and no one walked inside the building besides her. I of course wore my mask to pick up the food. The wonton soup was SO good. At first I was surprised it was a large serving for 2-4 people and then I was SUPER happy to learn realize that just meant I had a hot, delicious, and filling soup for the next few days for lunch? Did I just meal prep?! Close enough. The order accuracy was perfect and I can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been seeing this one come up a lot on the foodies site. They recommended the noodles with spicy sauce and they were so good! We also got the Mongolian beef which wasn't my cup of tea but there was nothing wrong with it either. We also tried the fried rice which my daughter polished off in one sitting. We can't wait to go back and try the wonton soup. Their curbside service was also quick and they were busy.

Yelp
Me and my family have been going to ming tree as long as I can remember. It's changed locations several times but it's the same owner and her and her husband make amazing food. We always go with the Hunan chicken and shrimp fried rice. It's our go to, they also make amazing lamb but it's so hard to come by now a days. Only thing about this place is that it's hard to get a hold of on the phone to make pick up orders. We usually have to end up going there to place an order and wait.
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic Chinese food! I've heard GREAT things about Ming Tree from coworkers so decided to give it a try while the hubby's outta town! Plus, chose something out of my wheel house: pork w/ pickled cabbage. I was told it's a more authentic dish & since others seems to rave about it on here, I went for it! My other choice would've been the eggplant dish (getting that next time for sure). I only wish there had been more cabbage/veggies but the that won't deter me from enjoying it!! And the crab Rangoon: yyyuuuummmmm! Yep... worth it!!

Yelp
I am ashamed to say that I live within a mile of ming tree and just had it tonight for the 1st time. My daughter and I ordered take out tonight, sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and lo mein. The chicken was so crispy and perfect, the sauce was good and oh my goodness the lo mein was delicious. The noodles felt slightly thicker than normal which I love! They were perfectly cooked and not gummy. The portion size was very large. Its enough for another meal for both of us! The wait time was great, especially for a Saturday night. When I called it in they said 15 to 20 minutes, and it fell right in that window. We do not eat chinese food a lot. I can say that the menu is limited due to covid, but that is to be expected anywhere. I cannot wait to order again and try something different. We will absolutely order again soon!

Yelp
Thank Goodness for Ming Tree! I've been visiting them since they opened in the current location, can't think of another place that could be better when no ones knows exactly what they want for dinner but will all agree on Ming Tree. The family that owns and operates it is an amazing group of people. I've never heard anyone say the food wasn't authentic and the best Chinese in Tallahassee.

Yelp
One good thing about living in Tallahassee is that there are several decent Chinese restaurants here and each of them has different characteristic. Ming Tree Cafe is my favorite one. It is kinda like the real modern restaurant that you can currently find in China's shopping mall----not too much regional color, but more like the fusion Chinese cuisine which many Chinese people prefer to eat every day. Spare ribs with sweet & sour sauce(糖醋排骨) is the best. I usually order chicken with onions & green onions(葱爆鸡), sauteed nappa Chinese style(开洋白菜), beef & bean curd in hot pot(牛肉豆腐煲). Shrimp Lo Mein is also surprisingly good, and always remember to check today's special. The only downside is Ming Tree Cafe is always packed during the dinner time, so earlier is better.

Yelp
Wow. Just got home from eating at Ming Tree Cafe and had to write a review. Hands down, the best Chinese food I have had in many years - certainly the bet in Tallahassee. Amazing, as they cook the entrees to order, so we were able to tailor the spice level for our kids. This isn't your Sysco stocked restaurant. It doesn't taste like everywhere else. For example, the Sesame Chicken had a distinct sesame oil taste. Portion size was quite large and the prices were too reasonable for the volume of delicious food that you receive. In addition to the fantastic food, the service was warm and friendly. Obviously family owned, but they don't rest on their food - they are very kind and seem to take interest in their customer. We are so excited to be eating Chinese food in Tallahassee again!

Yelp
I had followed Ms. Alice's Chinese restaurants years back from North China Gourmet on Timberlane Rd to China Delight on N. Tennessee St. As I moved away from Tally and lived in TX for the past 6-7 yrs, I was not able to find any Chinese joint that's comparable where I lived. Recently I moved back to the capital city. As soon as I found out her new restaurant is now Ming Tree, I came here in no time. This Chinese establishment is true neighborhood dining. It's very small but cozy. I didn't have to wait as I came on a Wednesday around 6pm. Menu is limited compared to her previous restaurants. I ordered pork with pickled cabbage and garlic eggplant. Both were very authentic and delicious. However, pork with pickled cabbage was deff my fav! Service is warm and attentive. I'm not too sure but I think the server is her son and I'm positive that her husband still runs the kitchen. Surprisingly she still remembers me. Overall, a true gem. The best part is that it's only minutes away as I live in the Killearn area. Woot woot!

Yelp
Delicious Chinese food! The vegetables were a bit oily but that's expected. I came with a group of 7 and we did not encounter any problems. Sizable portions. Pretty placemats :)

Yelp
Very good restaurant that is close to our home. We've enjoyed the General Tso's Chicken, Shrimp Lo Mein, Beef and Broccoli, Pepper Steak and Onions, Chicken and Vegetables and of course the most delicious and hearty Won Ton Soup.

Yelp
Well after reading numerous positive comments on Facebook on how Ming tree is the only authentic Chinese food in Tallahassee I had a chance to try. We ordered Togo as that's all they offer, I ordered the pork with pickled cabbage it was so salty with a very small portion size I couldn't eat it so bad. They offered fried rice with was just soy sauce with white rice . My wife who is From Taiwan got the beef with Tofu hot pot horrible as well chewy beef watery sauce cheap rice . We also got fried rice for my grandsons and it wasn't even fried just blanch tasteless veg and meet tossed on a bowl . We have been to China and Taiwan many times and never have I taste food like this nothing authentic about it . Don't waste your time and money on this place we will never be back. My wife's Chinese food is the good authentic Chinese food in Tally

Jessica P.

Yelp
Only provides takeout, but that's exactly what we were looking for. Quick and still hot by the time we got home.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite place in town! Love the food and very friendly service. Only opened for curbside pickup right now but the outside is very clean and well kept. Would definitely recommend lo mien so far the best in town!

Yelp
Our daughter wanted to have Chinese as a reward for achieving Honor Roll. This was a WIN WIN for our family. We have never gone out to eat in at a Chinese restaurant - until now. Small restaurant of 6 tables. Showed up on a Wednesday around 6pm. By 7 they were all full and patrons were coming in to pick up their orders. EXCELLENT service. OUTSTANDING hot and sour soup. Perhaps one of the best experiences with Chinese food I have ever had. You must try the Braised Beef with Brown Sauce. Wow. For our family of four to have four entrees, soft drinks, a pot of tea, and appetizers and leave with left overs for under $60 - I cannot rave more about Ming Tree. We will be back and we will be back often!

Yelp
Small place but their flavors pack a punch! Tonight's takeout order- sesame chicken and Peking chicken. The sesame chicken is flavorful and has some kick to it but not too spicy. The Peking chicken, chopped in small cubes has a light sweet sauce and has a smattering of carrots, peas, and green bell pepper(which I forgot to ask them not to put it in). It would've been better if they were not cubed but I still liked the flavor. They've been closed for three months so I'm just happy that they're open for take-out. Chinese food craving satisfied!

Yelp
My go to place for Chinese food! Anyone new to town who ask me where they should go for authentic Chinese food will get "Ming Tree Cafe". As some of you may know, there are many version of Chinese food. There are Chinese all over the world and Chinese food is adapted to each country's available ingredients and taste. In America, you get your usual General Tso's chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan and etc. This restaurant has those also. But if you want something authentic, look at the Chef's Specialties section and ask the waitress. My Caucasian husband's all time favorite here is the Braised Beef with brown sauce (it's Chinese version of pot roast). I, on the other hand, likes to eat different items when I'm here. I don't come too often as what can be more authentic than my own cooking. Lol. That being said, few of my favorites are Braised tofu, eggplant, fried egg with shrimp and tomato, and shredded pork with pickled cabbage noodle. For last night, my Asian friends and I ordered a few dishes and shared it family style. We just wish there's a lazy Susan we could use. Passing the dishes around was a hassle. I highly recommend this restaurant if you have a hankering for Chinese food. The chef is from Taiwan but can cook a variety of dishes from other Chinese region. By the way, try their egg drop soup. It's not your typical starchy yellow blob.

Yelp
Such a gem in Tallahassee! The food all tastes home made and fresh and the lady who owns it is very kind. You can get refills on your big pot of rice (if everyone in your party orders the same rice) and it's a great place to all get different orders and share. My favorite items are the Lo Mein and the bean curd with sesame sauce. The bean curd with sesame sauce is a lot crispier than the bean curd with veggies, and it wasn't too spicy. The only downside is the lack of space/small number of tables, and it's been cold in there every time I've been. But it's worth the wait and bring a sweater!

Yelp
Great place to eat! Best Chinese in town , really good stuff. Definitely get the pickled pork, excellent!

Yelp
Out of business ,??? Phone does not answer so perhaps another one gone ? They answered a FB message but nit phone to take order im done with this place.

Yelp
I must say... Ming Tree Cafe is good! Quite good, even. I wish my Sinogastrometer (I just made that up, but etymologically, I think it works - right?) were as finely tuned as my pizzometer, because I'd be able to give a clear-cut rank order of the Chinese restaurants in Tallahassee. I will say this. 1. There is no better Chinese fare in Tallahassee. 2. This restaurant surpasses all of the buffet-type Chinese places - except one: China delight on Tennessee. Perhaps it's nostalgia - but I like China delight very much - as much as this. Service here was impeccable and delivered with genuine smiles and warmth. I told Alice that Cecil S. sent his regards and she was happy about that. It appears to be a team effort concerning running and bussing - and everything went without a hitch. The hot tea was great - with fresh tea leaves steeping. Wife was having birthday-eve dinner at kool beanz with girlfriends so this was just the kids and me - so ordering may appear somewhat pedestrian: On recommendation, I went with the pork & pickled cabbage. Outstanding. Then, we had sweet/sour chicken, bean curd and special mushrooms, and vegetable fried rice to complete the table. All ingredients tasted great and dishes were delivered swiftly and pipping hot. I'm a believer. Oh - and this IS all because of the many positive reviews of the Ming tree. I would never have driven all the way here for dinner. But for Chinese, I will in the future!
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
Hit or miss. Last time was a hit; very expensive prices and sometimes you get huge portions. When they're on fire, they're one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. For sure stop by and get to go during COVID!
google avatar

Rick O.

Yelp
Enjoyed yet another great dinner at what has become our go-to Chinese place, Ming Tree Cafe. Hunan Shrimp (extra spicy) has become a favorite dish and the combination lo mein was good - but the surprise of the night was their awesome wonton soup. It was recommended by both of the owner's kids (who run the front of the place) so I decided to forego my usual hot & sour soup and give it a try. Wow. Delicious broth loaded with veggies, chicken, beef, pork, shrimp and, of course, large, filled wontons. And it comes steaming hot in a huge bowl that could feed four. Highly recommended. And, yes, egg rolls are good too. The place was really busy for a Thursday night. If you go, be patient - though it's worth the wait.

Yelp
This review is about the service. The food is 4-5 stars. The service, however, warrants 0-1. They frequently do not answer the phone when you call, meaning you get the "mailbox is full" message. You can call for 20 minutes straight and not get an answer. I've been in the restaurant when it is busy and they ignore the phone, which is bad. But I've been there when it is empty and they also ignore the phone, which is worse. So we've taken to driving up to order. But then you can wait upwards of an hour for food. Even worse: you can drive up only to find they are closed, which we recently did. Totally frustrating. They could use a web site listing hours, or a real message on the phone either telling you that they are closed, or too busy to answer the phone. The food is very good, but I'm not sure it can or should excuse terrible service.

Yelp
I went with 4 because my meal was a 3 and my wife's was a 5. We had heard a lot of good things and one of my wife's favorite item on any Chinese menu is the sauteed green beans. If you have ever been to the Jade Pagoda in Reno, NV, that is her Gold Standard. According to her, Ming's version is right there as one of the best ever. She also went with a fan favorite of the Pork with Pickled Cabbage and, according to her, was "Da Bomb". So far, 2 for 2 and 5 stars. So where did the so-so aspect come from? My order of Chicken with Szechuan sauce. It wasn't BAD, it just wasn't very great; a tad bland, no real spice (and I had asked for extra spicy). On a side note, their egg rolls were also very good. We will be back, but I'll look at some more reviews to see what items seem to get better reviews. One thing, they have only a few tables and they fill up quickly and they do not take reservations, so either get there about 5:30 or be prepared to wait. Because they are so small, and their space is EXTREMELY limited, they are soft drinks/tea/water only; no adult beverages; BUT they will let you bring your own in for dinner. One thing I noticed, is that most folks who appeared to be regular patrons ordered their food ahead of time to go. If we weren't just a tad far, that might be a good option; or - if the weather is right - taking it out into the parking lot and tailgate.

Yelp
We ordered take out from here and were happy to find some really good food. Especially loved their General Tso's chicken and the Lomein. Everyone there was very friendly can't wait to try more!
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
This is my favorite Chinese food in town. It's always made to order and consistently delicious. No msg is used, which is a plus for this migraine sufferer. Highly recommend the pepper steak. The hot and sour soup is also delicious. Unfortunately, they tend to take their phone off the hook when they get backed up on orders, so you are lucky to get take out during peak hours, unless you go in to order.

Tuna F.

Yelp
4- 27-21 Pickup service was friendly and the food was great as usual. The chicken and Vegetable is always fresh, hot and delicious. We love this place.
google avatar

Josh K.

Yelp
Consistently good Chinese food that's reasonably priced no nonsense and family run. Best hot and sour soup in town. Favorite: Shredded Pork with Hot Pepper

Diana C.

Yelp
Our all time favorite take out Chinese! We love the owners... been a loyal customer since their location near the downtown and now in Killearn Estates!
google avatar

Wilbur D.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic. Visited there today, after I tried to get in on the previous Saturday nights: No tables available. Today I walked in at 3:30pm, one other smart patron was there, because he knew, he KNEW what happens after everyone goes home for the day. Alice Shaw, the owner was in charge. I knew it would be good before it hit the table. I ordered an eggroll, the egg drop soup, and the sweet & sour chicken, Everything was served in courses, as it should be; The soup first, which was extremely fresh and hot, then the crispy fresh eggroll, and finally the chicken. Alice continuously checked on me to make sure everything was right. Want the best Chinese in Tallahassee? I'll be back to this one. It's a keeper!
google avatar

Pamela K.

Yelp
Our family loves this place. The food is amazing and so is the family running it. So far we have ordered the beef and tofu hotpot, general tso chicken, fried wontons, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and the black bean specialty dish. None have ever been disappointing.
google avatar

Jing C.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get authentic Chinese food in Tallahassee. It is owned by a Taiwanese couple and their son (They used to own China Delight on Tennessee, but sold to a Chinese family a couple years ago. They are actually just helping out their son now). The food is as authentic as you can get in Tallahassee even though it is still not on the same level when compared to the best Chinese restaurants in NYC or LA. The general rule is that if you like authentic Chinese food, order from Chef's Specialties. For people who prefer more Americanized food, order from the rest of the menu.
google avatar

Julia N.

Yelp
Excellent food. Definitely no MSG because I didn't even get a twitch of a headache. Fresh ingredients that you can really taste. I love it when a place makes you feel welcome. People could take lessons from the woman who gave me my food, she was so sweet and friendly.
google avatar

Tom D.

Yelp
Really great local / neighborhood place. It has only 7 or so tables and a very friendly staff. It's clear the people who come here do so frequently. Our experience was great and I'm sure it will become one of our go-to places.
google avatar

Cary S.

Yelp
I've tried the Beef with Sesame Sauce, Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and Beef with Sesame Sauce and found all of them to be very good. Also, you get a lot of food for the price. The business hours on Yelp are wrong. Ming Tree's current business hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 3:00pm to 9:00pm.
google avatar

Suzan S.

Yelp
Have been there many times and it does not disappoint. Staff very friendly whether you are dinning in or taking out. No rush you can relax and eat. Mongolian beef my favorite but have had the king mushroom, the egg drop soup, low mein, fried rice. Food is always hot fresh and full of flavor. wait time is also a plus. food comes out preety fast. you can call ahead and order but usually service is fast. place is clean and cozy.
