A Summer Downtown Gloucester Food Crawl | Eater Boston

"Situated adjacent to the Gloucester harbor, the raw bar offers a pleasant patio with a water view that’s perfect for slurping oysters and sipping cocktails. The setting and simple seafood-forward menu make it an ideal spot for a relaxed, waterfront drink-and-raw-bar stop." - Terrence Doyle

Such a positive experience the moment we entered! the more than pleasant host Lucy welcomed us in and found us the perfect booth. Edward and I couldn’t get enough of Shawna. She not only had like the best suggestions for things on the menu, but made sure we felt taken care of! We also met Caroline. She was super nice! Will be back!

Minglewood is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Gloucester, with great staff, amazing food, and a unique atmosphere on the harbor. Their sushi is really good, and all the food is brought out super fast as well. My server Joe was incredible! I highly recommend Minglewood for a great harborside meal.

We were a party of four and had appetizers & a late lunch at 3:00 pm. The fried gluten free options are amazing! They have a dedicated gf fryer. The gf sweet potato fries and lightly crisped gf fried clams were delicious! Others non gf persons had lobster rolls, (good size for the price), and sushi. Apps were Peach Burrata with pistachios, fried buffalo cauliflower, and seaweed salad. They have an excellent selection of seafood, sushi & sandwiches & salads. They have an outside seating deck. We ate inside but still had a view.

We held our Wedding Afterparty in the Captains Room last Saturday 10/25 from 10:30 pm -12:30pm . They let us stay until about 1pm. Zach the GM helped us set up the event almost a year and a half in advance . Everything went great. The food was out when everyone arrived , multiple people complimented the food . Bartenders were super friendly and accommodating, they let my wife hook up her iPhone to the speakers so she could play her own music . Which was awesome . We had a little over 100 people at the event , there was plenty of tables and chairs , and still a ton of room for people to talk and dance near the bar . Will 100% host another event here .

We came at a relatively busy time, but only about half the tables were full. We were told 15 minute wait, but ended up waiting well over 45. Service was extremely slow and food was mediocre, but atmosphere was nice. You couldn’t actually access the dock from the restaurant to look at the water, which was disappointing. Food was also pretty expensive and they even took forever to bring the check.

8/16/25 Hands down best burgers in town! Could possibly be the best burger I've ever had. We had a Minglewood & smash burger which were absolutely phenomenal. Menu has tons of options & we can't wait to try more! Service is excellent. Sushi rolls were top grade We will definitely be back very soon. Fortunate to live so close to a top tier restaurant. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Love this place! The service is always good, the food and drink are generally great (though they lost a star for the quality of a couple of take out meals which were below par - eating in has not failed us however), the location is terrific, and free live music os ALWAYS good!

We used Minglewood’s side room for our wedding after-party, and it was perfect! Communication with Zach was great—he was super easy to work with, very chill, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The sliders and sweet potato fries were a huge hit, our guests loved them! They even provided boxes so we could take leftovers home, which was such a thoughtful great for the next day! We were able to hook up to the aux cord and play our own music, which made the night feel even more personal and fun. Everything was wonderful! Thank you so much, Zach and the Minglewood team!

Yelp
Ambiance 7/10 Food 7/10 Staff 10/10 I got married in Gloucester a couple months ago, and we hosted our welcome party at Minglewood Harborside. As far as events, I would give HIGHLY recommend hosting here. The cost for the area was unbeatable, and the food and service was excellent. Let me break it down. We visited beforehand to try the food to make sure it was good to serve to our guests. We tried the bang bang shrimp, chicken tenders and calamari which were some of our potential options. The bang bang shrimp and the chicken tenders were absolutely delicious, but the calamari had absolutely no flavor. We were glad we tried it beforehand so we could make an informed menu decision. We reached out to begin booking about a year or so in advance. I will say, there were times throughout the planning process where my communications and emails went unanswered and I would have to send follow-ups to nudge for a reply. Other than that, our party went fantastically. We had about 120 people which was definitely maximum capacity. Its not the most visually pleasing room or lighting, but it did the job for what we needed. It got very hot in the room but we were able to open the windows which helped. The food was excellent and we could easily order more throughout the night if we needed it. We had cocktail shrimp as one of our items and the shrimp were enormous. We also had salads, charcuterie, bang bang shrimp, sliders, tenders, and more. The drinks were great and the bartenders and staff were so nice. Our party ended at 9 and most people left but we stayed until 10 with some of our friends to drink and dance and they didn't seem to mind at all. Overall it was a wonderful experience and the perfect start to our wedding weekend.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant in Gloucester hands down. I'm an avid eater at Serenitee Restaurant Chain and Minglewood takes the trophy. Whether you're coming for their unreal steak tips or mouth watering sushi on the ocean - this is your calling to try it out!

Yelp
Perfect spot after a beach day or a little shopping day in Gloucester! The clams linguine was delicious and full of flavor. Loved the outdoor seating with the harbor views, and the service was friendly and attentive. Can't wait to come back on another sunny day!

Amanda A.

Yelp
I had my son's rehearsal dinner there last night in the Captain Courageous Room and it was absolutely perfect! The appetizer board with cheese, crackers, veggies and fruit was huge and I wish I got a picture of it because it was so pretty too! Our (44) guests had a menu with four entrees to chose from, Braised beef, baked haddock, chicken broccoli Alfredo and Eggplant lasagna. Everyone raved about how good the food was! Everything came out fresh and hot! Shawna and Heather were our bartenders/servers for the night and they were amazing! They were so attentive and helped set up the tables adding some candles with our centerpieces. For dessert they brought our warm jumbo chocolate chip cookies! Those were definitely a hit! The entire planning was so easy and Zach Sears was a pleasure to work with and the cost of the entire night was very reasonable. We will definitely use them again for future event!

Yelp
Came for a late lunch on a chilly day after Thanksgiving. As a group of four, we were seated immediately. The service was quick and efficient. Good variety of food. The fries and french onion soup were both very good! I got the pumpkin spice martini and it was well balanced and went down easy. The rest of the group all gave their dishes thumbs up! Would definitely come back if in the area.

Yelp
Started my afternoon off with a hungry stomach...heard Minglewood harbor side was good so me and some girls checked it out. I was greeted and sat very quick!! Had a sweet server. food was over all okay, my meat was a little overcooked. Gordon ramsey might've not liked that...lol. So ended up taking my leftovers and not finishing them... But I paid and I went to use the restroom before exiting, and there were two young girls in the restroom. One had bussed my table and I remember her telling me her name. Her name was Elizabeth. She was being completely inappropriate in the bathroom, saying things about "vaping" and talking bad about customers looks. Wanted this vibe of the restaurant to be good. But having staff talk and act that way isn't something to be proud of.... Not sure i'll pass along that good recommendation after that bathroom trip. Also tried to tell an employee and I seemed to be brushed off... My friends and I are astonished but this. Who knew hiring teenage staff was such a unpleasing idea these days. My Nephew works at a restaurant and he'd never act that way. Won't be recommending for the establishment or people. But food was okay. Take out next time...i guess.. lol!

Janice B.

Yelp
We had a small private event there on a Sunday afternoon. The food was terrific with wonderful presentation. All the guests were blown away.

Kaye J.

Yelp
Food was great! Very generous and well done portions. Delicious fresh seafood. Restaurant was clean and staff as very attentive.

Peter P.

Yelp
Don't get the calamari. It sucks big time. No taste not even any salt and pepper. Clam chowders was awesome however.

Yelp
We went there with a group of 8. They were able to seat us right away on their beautiful patio. When the waitress came to introduce herself, we asked her if we could split the bill in 4 different groups of 2 and she said yes right away. We got our drinks really quick after that and then our food didn't take much longer to come as well. The service was awesome and efficient. The food was alright. The tuna tartare was a bit disappointing but the rest was fine.

Steven M.

Yelp
We ate here yesterday, it's the last day of a long trip for us. The food was very good and the service was amazing. We had Brady as a server, and highly recommend him. The hostess Ella was also amazing. They both made the experience beyond enjoyable, thank you both.

Yelp
Seared scallops were good! It was not too busy on a Saturday night which was great! Amazing martini, hot n dirty! The waitress and staff was friendly
google avatar

Alanna Q.

Yelp
Great food! From fried food to great sushi! And an excellent beer menu of course! Awesome to bring the family and sit out on the deck next to the harbor. Then at night they bring out the live band and it becomes the hub of night life in Gloucester!

Yelp
We stopped in here for lunch after a sail to grab some drinks and a bite to eat. They sat us in the back room, which was probably smart because we were a large crew and we can get pretty loud. Since we were not in the main room, I do feel like service was a bit slower than we would have normally got. That is really my only complaint. We all ordered drinks, appetizers and main meals and everything tasted amazing. Sometimes a bit slow coming out, but otherwise great flavor. I will say this is the best lobster I have ever had in my life. I am not from an ocean area obviously being from Denver, but I have had my fair share of seafood and lobster is one of them. This was definitely the best. We ordered a whole lobster that was only $41 boiled and it came with 2 large sides. I had to share because I couldn't eat it all. The meat was tender and sweet. Loved every bite of it. This would be a cool place to grab a beer and site by the harbor and watch the boats. Great location.

Yelp
We went to Minglewood Harborside for dinner on a Monday night, and overall had a great experience! We went at around 5pm and there was no wait, and got a great table view looking at the harbor. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, all the staff were great! We ordered two appetizers along with both our entrees and they were delicious! The fried pickles were a bit thick but the dipping sauce was amazing, it seemed homemade! The edamame was also so good, no complaints there. For my entree I got the tuna poke bowl and overall it was fantastic! Everything was very super fresh and the pickled veggies were soooo good! The one complaint I had was the mango was dry, but that was pretty insignificant. My boyfriend got the smash burger, and he really liked it! He said it was a bit thick for a smash burger, the sauce was your usual burger sauce, and overall very good. The fries were decent, good but nothing crazy. The wait for our food was not very long which was great and we would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Would love to rate the food but never made it that far. I saw the reviews about this place and I was excited to try it during our July Fourth visit. Got in and the hostess was very nice and sat us immediately. We were the only patrons there at that time. We were seated outside and no one came to take our drink or food order. We waited 15 min and then got up to leave. We explained to the hostess no one came out to assist us and we're met with a very lackluster "Oh, I'm sorry". Will never attempt this place again.

Yelp
This place was good!! It's definitely a fun bar environment with an eclectic menu. The sushi was surprisingly good and the bar food is very average :) The waitstaff was so nice and have no complains Parking always gives me anxiety. But there was lots of street parking just be prepped to walk a couple of minutes
google avatar

Catie G.

Yelp
We sat outside on the deck by the water and it was a calm and pleasant experience. The waitress was very knowledgeable about allergens and informed me that a majority of their fried foods were gluten free (dedicated fryer!). The menu is also labeled clearly, with some dishes being naturally gluten free and some can be modified. I had the smash burger on a gluten free bun, which was one of the best buns I've had as it didn't fall apart, and fries. Our table split the breaded garlic parmesan chicken wings, which were also gluten free. There are a wide variety of food choices such as salad, sandwiches, sushi, and tacos.

Yelp
We came in and got seated right away the restaurant is vibrant and fun with live music and bar. We ordered fried pickles to start but they are ok, the breading would fall right off since it's a thin crust. The ranch dip is made here is yum. I ordered the sushi which was delicious! My husband got barbacoa tacos with a side of truffle fries instead of rice and beans. When the order came out the taco was absolutely drowning in sour cream and heavy on the meat. The taco meat was super dry and to even eat the taco we had to pull the meat off a bit. The plate didn't come with fries so our waitress brought it on the side however just plain fries on the side. Since my husband barely touched his food. The waitress took it completely off our bill which is so appreciated! Service was great the ambiance was great the food was a miss on this day taco wise!

Yelp
Clean, open space. Indoor and outdoor seating. Diverse menu offers something for anyone's unique taste while preserving the harbor/pub feel. I took a risk and ordered the Shaggy Dog roll. It was delicious and very much worth it. The other two people I was dining with ordered the standard hamburger and fries, and a salad. Everyone was happy and satisfied with their choices. Employees were attentive and polite. Service was relatively fast.

Wyatt B.

Yelp
literally just made a yelp account only to compliment this place and their workers. Drinks were 10/10 (espresso martini and spicy pineapple margarita), customer service top notch, and food was pretty good !

Sarah C.

Yelp
We got takeout here after family photos on the beach. The food was fine, really expensive for what it was. Pretty bland. Especially annoyed though because two bites into my husband's fish tacos he found bones each time. He ended up dissecting and eating, not ideal. I have the swordfish tacos. Again pretty boring.

Blythe F.

Yelp
The frickles were so yummy! Highlight of my meal. My salad was ok, it didn't seem very fresh. The service was also quite slow... we waited about 30 mins for the check, after we had asked. It was a bit frustrating... But, the place was a cool ambiance and the view was nice sitting by the window!

B S.

Yelp
We ordered the nachos. We noticed that the price for nachos with chili and guacamole was over $30. This seems to be more expensive than other nachos we've ordered around the north shore, and even more expensive than other nachos at other Serenity restaurants such as Maggie's or Cala's where we get them with pulled pork with guacamole included. I will say that when they came out the bartender noticed they were not up to par and worked with us to make sure they were to our liking. She consulted the manager to make it happen. I would say that she is a true professional and cared about what she was serving. In the end, we enjoyed them, but feel it was a bit pricey.
google avatar

Ian B.

Yelp
Namaste away. Calamari tasteless, wasn't busy and the service was less than par. Sushi was mid level for $20 per roll. Go elsewhere.
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
The food is good. The waitstaff is friendly. Only one time at lunch was I disappointed with the food. The atmosphere is welcoming. During Summer they open the back of the restaurant unto the outside deck . I would give it a try.
google avatar

Mat R.

Yelp
Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was definitely good. No wait time. Overall a very good experience

Yelp
Just wanted to give a great review and thank the staff especially Kai our Bartender at Minglewood. We used their back function room for my daughter's welcome/rehersal cocktail party the night before her wedding. They did the most amazing job, all the food and appetizers that we ordered were delicious the staff were very friendly and attentive and made the entire evening a great success. Highly recommend.

Samantha B.

Yelp
This restaurant is okay, I probably won't go back again because food was much more expensive than it was worth. We live on the north shore and there are so many good restaurants that are much better and more worth the expense. I ordered the fish and chips and was surprised that the haddock really had no flavor, which made me realize that although this place is on the water and in a fishing town, the fish isn't fresh. The service was good, our waitress was attentive and the restaurant does have nice ambience. Overall, not worth it and there are many better restaurants.

Emily E.

Yelp
Service and food was super good! Would get everything again other than calamari because it was dry and didn't have much taste. Rock shrimp was super good and good size!
google avatar

Gabrielle M.

Yelp
We love this spot! The food is consistent and the service is friendly. Last night we came to hear the music. We had a couple of beers, a salad and fried pickles. My daughter had French onion soup and mac and cheese. We shared a skillet cookie for dessert. Everything was really tasty and the server was great. Here is the issue. We used the bathroom on the way out and it was disgusting. Multiple dirty stalls, toilet paper and paper towels all over the floor. To be honest if we had used the bathroom earlier we would have skipped dinner. I wish I was exaggerating but it was just gross. It felt more like the bathroom at Fenway. We've never experienced this before at any of the SERENITEE restaurants so I hope it was just an off night.

David R.

Yelp
Big comfortable place. They have music and trivia which distracts sometimes. Friendly, attentive staff. They mix several cuisines which is fun and they have a wide selection of unique food selections including decent sushi. Solid dishes. Something for everyone.
google avatar

Brandi J.

Yelp
Food was good - server was attentive and kind (we sat at the bar) music was great. If you like fried pickles get the frickles they are delish - the clam chowder has great flavor - Brussel sprouts were huge and tasty - definitely worth the stop for a drink and apps
google avatar

Colleen E.

Yelp
Went there for Sunday lunch on an unseasonably warm January weekend. Had to wait for a table but we were encouraged to go to the bar where we ordered red sangria. The drink was delicious and strong. We started with the fried calamari which comes in 1 of 2 ways. It was perfect for sharing. I got the haddock burrito which was very fresh and flavorful. My friend enjoyed her sushi as well. For dessert we shared a sundae which they were kind enough to divide between 2 dishes. Will definitely be back.

Owen P.

Yelp
Good bar. I enjoy the run and cokes here as well as their fry's. The volcano roll is the best
google avatar

Olivia H.

Yelp
Stopped at Minglewoods while visiting the Rockport area last weekend.. the fried pickles and clam chowder were both 10/10. Still thinking about those pickles!
google avatar

Dennis S.

Yelp
I'm a little surprised to see the overall rating of this place so low. Went with my 2 daughters and had a flawless experience. The place itself seems clean, comfortably lit and there was live acoustic music just loud enough not to be annoying. Draft beer was ice cold and fresh. Fried pickles were maybe the best we've ever had and came out piping hot. My girls keep things simple and get Buffalo tenders and another plain chicken tender dinner with fries. The fries were great. The chicken tenders seemed freshly made, not the frozen kind. Very good. I got the baked haddock entree and as expected from a restaurant in Gloucester, it didn't disappoint in its freshness and size. They don't mess around in Gloucester with seafood. Our waitress was fine and didn't get anything wrong. She was friendly enough and we weren't in a hurry so we didn't really notice any wait longer than usual or noticeable. I would give this place a try. Maybe check out the menu first as it's somewhat limited, but that isn't such a bad thing. I will definitely go back.

Julie T.

Yelp
Always consistently good. Basic pub food executed very well. Great burgers, salads, a delicious cauliflower app, sushi and our favorite clam chowder--so creamy and flavorful. Fun drinks, atmosphere and always good service. A go-to for a quick dinner or for trivia!
google avatar

Veronica M.

Yelp
Nice outdoor patio by the water. Good prompt service. Lunch was delicious. I would love to make it for dinner next time.
google avatar

Yelp
First time ordering from Mingle since we are out of towners. Easy to order online and modify to your taste. Great variety and sushi was great.
google avatar

Austin J.

Yelp
My wife and I were visiting for the day and found this amazing spot. I wish I could remember our servers name as she was great. I had the special Pad Thai sushi and it was delicious. My wife had the fish tacos and the fish was fresh and not fried. I asked our server if i could just have one fried clam as i love them but couldn't eat a whole platter of fried food and she brought me several. When we drive up next time I'll definitely be back.

Judi L.

Yelp
A few months back, I booked the Minglewood Harborside for a wedding rehearsal dinner , the future date was 04/25/24. I made the right decision! The relaxed ambience of the 'Captain Courageous Room' with its modern rustic decor, soft lighting & bar was so inviting ..yes, a great place for our rehearsal dinner but could easily accommodate a cocktail party, a baby shower, or a sit down dinner..it has a great vibe! The food was outstanding, I ordered platters of Bang Bang shrimp , calamari, chicken tenders & hummus with naan & veggies..beer & wine & people walked around , socialized..after we had a sit down dinner. The manager, Zach Sears & I had already discussed the menu & each guest received one for their personal choices. We started with homemade clam chowder or onion soup or salad , all great choices..and there were 3 entree choices; Pan seared scallops with polenta & sweet corn and the Baked haddock & BBQ steak tips were served with mashed potatoes or truffle fries & choice of vegetable and for dessert, baked chocolate chip cookies! My son Tim & Eden had a wonderful time...the bridal party and guests had so many compliments about the food ..we stayed a long time, talking and really had a great evening. Special thank you to the bartender who answered all my questions that evening and such great all around service. Thank you Zack!

Maestro L.

Yelp
We had a great friendly server and great outside seats. The fried scallops were amazing as was the tartar sauce. French fries cooked perfectly. The calamari was cooked perfectly ant the "dipping sauce " was awesome. I prefer Mexican corn off the cob but this tasted good. This place is very reasonable.
google avatar

Marissa F.

Yelp
Very good. We went for lunch and had the spicy tuna roll and the blackened swordfish tacos with rice and black beans. The swordfish was a bit on the dry side but still tasty. The sushi was our favorite. So tasty and fresh. Not too spicy. Service was great. Restaurant is cute and they have outdoor seating. Give it a try if you are in the area! We went twice when just here for a few days.

Owen R.

Yelp
super yummy And I love the shirley temple, staff goes overboard to help amazing, I was Greeted by a hostess named Karlee and she walked me to my table and welcomed me :) she make sure I was all set and happy with my experience!

Joseph C.

Yelp
Had a great time here, the staff was very friendly and the food was amazing. Sitting outside right by the water was awesome.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Very delicious I got the Red Sox roll and it was super fresh tasting and spiced really well. Boyfriend got the Cajun style fish tacos and loved it. We sat outside and the atmosphere was so nice, we loved watching the boats pull in to pick people up and our server was prompt and helpful. Overall would go here again for sure

Gail L.

Yelp
Just a heads up when ordering takeout Check your containers for condiments we ordered fish and chips for the second time no tartar sauce, no coleslaw, no ketchup for the french fries by the time we realized we were already back in Rockport. Really didn't think we had to ask for tartar sauce with fish and chips.r

Emily E.

Yelp
Fun place for cocktails and sushi on the water. We enjoyed the bang bang shrimp app too quickly and missed the picture. Music was a bit loud inside but we sat on the water and weren't bugged
