A downtown cafeteria line since 1986, Minnie’s serves fried chicken, salmon patties, and a changing slate of sides. Celebrated in Georgia’s 100 Plates Locals Love and praised by local press, it remains a lunchtime rite of passage.

It's been a couple of years since we got to come here. And we look forward to coming back. Home cooked style of food. And it's great. We ate way to much for a 2 and half hour drive back home. But it was so good. Great job people. 👍

Google
Just simply heaven sent!! I had an unforeseen emergency that prevented me from traveling home today, but this restaurant and phenomenal food made my Thanksgiving a great one! I felt like I was home eating with family! Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of my food I purchased. The customer service was exceptional as well. Thank you for serving customers on Thanksgiving because it really allowed me to enjoy this holiday. Happy Holidays!

Google
First time here and well worth it. Delicious Southern food. Definitely get here early because the line was long as you can see. They also only have certain hours so double check online before you come. Great customer service! Parking is limited but you can park on the side streets so not an issue. Delicious dessert's, fried chicken, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cornbread. They have sweet and unsweet tea sitting out on the table in the dining area to refill your drink, also serve pink and regular lemonade. Definitely must try if you are in the area!!

Google
Absolutely Delicious! I took a friend from overseas here for some southern cooking while we were visiting the area. We both loved it and he was mightily impressed with both the southern hospitality and the amazing tastes of the food.

Google
Worth a few minute drive off our route from SW Florida to Birmingham. Go hungry and enjoy huge portions of homemade comfort southern food. Had catfish, flounder and hamburger lunches with 2 sides. Mashed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy with collard greens. All was so delicious. Flounder was a bit dry so the wonderfully accommodating manager happily offered another dish. Their tartar and hot sauces were on point too. Off veterans near Hwy 280 in the historic district of Colombus near Ft Benning. Enjoy some tasty southern food and hospitality at its finest👍😊 PS closes at 2:30pm

Google
Very typical southern food (fried chicken, cobbler, green beans, potatoes, etc.). Southerners and lovers of soul food will love this place. Parking is a bit limited, but plenty of street parking in the surrounding area and very walkable. You serve yourself (cafeteria style).

Google
This place is STILL great. The fried chicken is amazing as is pretty much every thing else. I love the fried okra and the Mac and cheese with my fried chicken. Of course, there are many other sides to choose from such as dressing, butter beans, field peas, etc. Everything is home made just like your Grandmother used to make but better!! Update: really love the dressing and gravy! Started get this as a side along with butter beans. Yummy!

Google
Great soul food everytime! I normally get the fried chicken, dressing, Candied sweet potatoes, corn muffin and a sweet tea. Great every time and the ladies that work here are always so nice.

Yelp
I've been trying to try Minnie's on my last four visits and finally had the chance to get over for lunch. I first learned of Minnie's when I stayed at an Airbnb a couple doors down but our schedule never seemed to match their hours. I brought my Mom and son to enjoy lunch here on a recent visit to town. The black eyed peas are phenomenal! They may have easily been my favorite item on my lunch plate. The fried chicken, greens, Mac and cheese and jalapeño corn bread were all yummy as well. Washed it all down with a sweet tea. If you're in town I highly recommend Minnie's. I love supporting small businesses and Minnie's was so tasty! Fantastic service.

Yelp
I will start off with the staff. Everyone in here is super friendly. I was very impressed with the staff. I got the fried chicken breast and wing. The chicken was fire. Would absolutely get again. For sides I got the mashed potatoes and gravy and mac and cheese. The mashed potatoes were equivalent to kfc. Maybe a little better. All in all not bad but I think it was expensive for what you get. Would go back if I was with someone who wanted to try but wouldn't go back for myself. I gave 3 stars but only because no half stars otherwise would probably be 2.5 but it's definitely better than a 2 so went with 3.

Yelp
Food was amazing. When you come in you gotta be ready to order. Check out the menu then head up and it's like a cafeteria style line. Server and cashier are both extremely efficiently and pleasant, but mean business to get you through quickly. Worth a stop anytime especially if you're just passing through like we were! Lots of space very clean and welcoming to eat inside but lots of folks got platters to go as well.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
I got this from DoorDash, it was really bad. I was shocked and disappointed! I got greens (1), dressing (2.5), meatloaf (1.5 ) red velvet cake ( 1.5). The food had little seasoning, the meatloaf was really dry, the dressing was passable, the greens had lots of stems and had an off flavor. There are better places in Columbus, please avail yourself of them.

Yelp
Somewhat of a hidden gem. I drove by this place 5 times and never noticed it. Glad I found it on Yelp! The wait on a Sunday around noon wasn't bad at all. The food and the service were both excellent. The dining areas are basic, which is a good thing, and clean. The man in charge of picking up the trays and cleaning the tables is very efficient and helpful. Prices were fair - no corporate greed at this place. I wish this place would come up to the other Columbus, in Ohio! Would definitely go back!

Yelp
Good home-cooked Southern cooking. Fried chicken was juicy. Sides were decent too. Would recommend to anyone craving soul food. 4.1/5 stars

Yelp
Always great southern cooking . Nice place to meet up with friends and family. Tell them Paul sent yay

Yelp
Exactly what you think of when you're looking for southern comfort food. The crust on their fried chicken is absolutely phenomenal. The service was fast and efficient and they have a large indoor seating area

Yelp
My wife and I had eaten at Minnie's early last year and were not impressed with the quality of the food, fresh or canned(?) you be the judge so, we thought maybe we would give it another try today, 7 Feb 25. My issue then and again today is that the food isn't seasoned, other than extra salt, and the price, well, let's just say they are really proud of their food and I'll leave it at that. On the bright side, the tea was reasonable priced for a 20 oz cup, you're out of luck if you have small kids and would like maybe an 8-10 oz cup, they don't have any; yet, their cornbread is better than most in the Columbus area.

Yelp
I am shocked I haven't written a review yet for Minnie's! For the last twelve years this has been my go to favorite place for comforting southern food. My family loves Minnie's and as we have grown over the years so has Minnie's with their options to go and to order online. We frequent those options with three small kiddos. ;) My favorite is the vegetable plate and my kids love the fried chicken. To be honest there isn't anything here we have not loved. The cakes, the sweet tea, the chicken and dumplings, the costumer service, just everything is enjoyable. If you have not found this hidden gem or are thinking about trying it out...GO! You will not be disappointed. Soon you'll be calling it your favorite place in Columbus too!

Yelp
Bbq chicken was dry. Got a few sides and all were good. Beans were good , greens had a good flavor, broccoli casserole was ok, Mac and cheese was so so,dressing was real good and cornbread was great Also got fish and it was so so It's been a while since I been here, but I think they must have new cooks as quality of food has really went down Soul food should be amazing and now at Minnie's it has been so so Customer service was good

Yelp
Amazing southern hospitality and home cooked food. Fried chicken is a must try and you can not go wrong with any side you choose but my mac-n-cheese and lima beans were amazing....not to mention the jalapeño corn bread.

Angela M.

Yelp
Country cooking like your mama & grandma made. I especially like the food line. All the food is right there, looking and smelling so good. Pick what you want and they serve it up in big portions, I usually ask for a to go box while I'm getting my food. There's no waiting for someone to take your order, then cook it, then bring it to you. I really like that. Multiple fresh homemade desserts like mama & grandma made. You will not be disappointed. Just wish they were open a little bit longer during the day.

Monica B.

Yelp
Fried chicken was crispy, I enjoyed all the sides: greens, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes. Sweet potatoes were ok- needed a bit more flavor. Backed chicken was seasoned well and moist. I will definitely go back.
google avatar

Marina D.

Yelp
Probably the best fried chicken I had in a while! Randomly found this place driving by. Mac cheese was amazing too.
google avatar

Suzzanne R.

Yelp
The food was absolutely wonderful. The prices are great. The chicken was so crunchy on the outside and super moist inside. They also have baked chicken that looked just as good. I was going to get the baker until a regular customer heard me say that it was my first time there and he said I had to start with the fried chicken.

Yelp
Minnie's is one of those places you must just show up and experience it. It looks a local cafeteria, but it's anything but. The group there has been making incredible veggies and their fried chicken and meatloaf are awesome.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Great food but 'extremely' salty. Best country cooking meat and three around. Delicious desserts.
google avatar

Deborah G.

Yelp
Delicious home cooked Southern soul food. Service is friendly and accommodating and everything from the fried chicken to the hamburger steaks and sides was very fresh. So good we even went back two days in a row!

Marjorie H.

Yelp
Good meat and three. Traditional . Friendly folks, a bit grimy. A clear local favorite with quick lunch service.
google avatar

Brittney H.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Food mediocre. Chicken was dry. Beef tips not good. Sides weren't bad. Overall will not be going back.

Yelp
I had heard about Minnie's several times and decided to try it for myself this weekend. I was happy to see that the restaurant had online ordering on its website so it could save me a phone call and a potentially misheard/wrong order. I placed my order on Saturday for Sunday pick up and promptly received e-mailed instructions on what to expect next. The e-mail stated a second one would be sent with an estimated time on when I should drop by. Unfortunately, I never received this e-mail on Sunday and had to eventually call the restaurant to check if my order was done. This was disappointing because take-out fried chicken can get really soggy if it's left sitting in an enclosed syrofoam box. I wanted to pick it up as soon as it was ready and not an hour later. When I arrived, parking was easily accessible. Since people aren't allowed to dine in due to COVID-19, I was relieved I didn't have any issues with parking like some previous Yelpers did. It was a quick in and out; service was really friendly. Food-wise, I ordered a three side set composed of turnip greens, collards, and mashed potatoes. A piece of cornbread was included which I hadn't expected. It was savory with what I felt was the slightest bit of sweetness which I love when it comes to cornbread. My only complaint about the sides was that the collard greens and turnip greens were very salty. I had to press on them with my fork to squeeze out as much of the salty juice as I could to make them more palpable. I also ordered a dark meat set that came with a fried drumstick and thigh, potato roll, and two sides. I asked for the macaroni and cheese and the cornbread dressing. It was nice that someone put parchment paper over the fried chicken to save it from the large droplets of water that had built up inside the syrofoam box. The fried chicken was unfortunately not crispy anymore at this point but all of the food was still warm and very comforting. It's just the type of food for a nice Sunday. I just wished I could have eaten it when it was still fresh and at its best.

Yelp
Spontaneously, we drove an hour and a half away to spend the afternoon in Columbus. We stumbled on this true gem for lunch! YUM!! Great service. Even better food!
google avatar

Gary R.

Yelp
Saw some of the reviews and wanted something g close by. Am I glad we went here. The fried chicken is awesome and everything is made from scratch. Food was epic!

robert e.

Yelp
My go-to place for lunch when I am in Columbus. I just wish they would stop using styrofoam and plastic.
google avatar

Peggy H.

Yelp
Great place to stop if you find yourself in Columbus and have a craving for Southern comfort food. This is a bare bones, small town cafeteria,so don't expect upscale. Food is served on paper plates and the sweet tea is strictly self serve. If you're still reading, let me tell you about the food. Good crispy fried chicken, tasty fried okra, and delicious Lima beans. My husband had the hamburger steak and rice and wished he had ordered differently. Service is warm and friendly. If you grew up in the South and want a trip back in time, Minnie's May be a good choice for you!
google avatar

Angelique C.

Yelp
Best food for lunch . They've been there for ever and that should say it all but recommend get there before twelve cause the line can be bad Go it's a must at lunch in Columbus

Yelp
I've heard so much about Minnie's so I was super excited when I got a chance to stop by. Minnies is fairly easy to get to but the parking is a nightmare :/ The parking lot is so small... so your better off parking in the street. The customer service is everything! ALL of the staff seem like they were happy to be there and that's really rare for a lot of businesses. I ordered the smothered pork chops over rice and mac and cheese and green beans... The portions were a good size and the food was pretty good... The only thing that I would change is the plastic silverware... it's pretty hard to cut into your pork chop with plasticware...

Yelp
Not much here food is mediocre at best. Tried several times boring and dull. Would be my last resort to eat
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
Highly unusual place for me but I suspect not so when in the south. Inconspicuous neighborhood place. We just wanted to try true southern cooking, and that it is, cafeteria style. To-go orders: pick your main and 2 sides placed in a styrofoam container. Prices are reasonable for pretty good food. Just not necessarily my thing but don't let the 3 star review deter you, I think Minnie's has a very fine reputation among this type of restaurant.

Yelp
Some call it Soul Food but to me, it's just good Southern Comfort Food We had to cut our vacation to Florida short because of Hurricane Matthew and in the process, also had to detour west through Alabama to get to the Carolina's which ended up taking us through Columbus. Good thing because otherwise we would not have found Mimmie's Uptown Restaurant. It's in what appears to be an old store front just South of Downtown Columbus. You walk in and move to the serving area on the left and go through the line and you meal is served to you Cafeteria Style. Not fancy but it worked in grade school and it works now. This day they had a choice of 5 meats and looks like 12 sides. I had the baker turkey with cornbread stuffing with gravy, along with my two sides which were mashed potatoes and gravy and mac and cheese. My wife had the same except she had creamed corn instead of the mac and cheese. Excellent choices and I'm sure the other items on the menu we did not try were equally as good. You can tell you're in the old South and not from the accents but rather from being address as Sugar and Hon. Very pleasant. As I pointed out, it appears to be two storefronts tied together so the place is not fancy. The primary decorations are all of the awards this restaurant has one over the years and you can get a hint of how many in some of the pictures, I'm posting as well. A bit hard to find if you're not from the area but definitely worth the effort to track it down.

Yelp
Great food and customer service EVERY TIME! Nothing better to be received with a smile and great tasting homemade southern cooking.

Yelp
Great local place. Food was perfect, quick, just like my Grandmother would make. Service was fast, people were super nice. I will be back! Thanks for the soul food!
google avatar

Yelp
Very good southern food. I could've gotten the beef tips or baked chicken or even meatloaf but we opted for fried chicken as it came right out of the oven. So delicious. Especially the Mac and cheese. The corn was great and rolls.
google avatar

Cynthia F.

Yelp
D! Licious! Can't remember the last time we had salmon patties and they were very good. Green beans were well seasoned which is the true southern test whether a chef likes and understands Southern vegetables. We will be back!

Yelp
Haven't had some good southern food for awhile, so we decided to come here based on the good reviews. We got there about 1 and there was a line but not too long. However, by the time we got to pick our food, the line got really long. This place is cafeteria style but I can tell it's good based on the number of people that came right after us. They had a good variety of choices of meats, veggies and desserts, so I'm sure you can find something you like. Together, we got fried chicken, cream corn, candied sweet potatoes, roll, red velvet cake, fried pecan pie, fried whole catfish, Mac and cheese, turnip greens, cornbread, and some pecan dessert. My favorites were probably the cream corn and turnip greens. This cream corn has some saltiness to it and a bit of smoky flavor, which was unlike the usual ones that I've tried. The turnip greens were probably one of the best ones I've tried in awhile. As far as everything else, they were all pretty good but the pecan dessert was way too sweet for me. Overall, this place was a worth a try!

Yelp
Hidden away in a quaint neighborhood, I would have almost missed it if I didn't see the mass of cars parked in front of it. It seems like the locals favorite and I saw all sorts of people making their way inside the restaurant. I went in on a Friday afternoon and it was quite busy. It's set up like a cafeteria style and they had goodies that you can pick up as you wait in line to get to the hot food. They also had abundant seating inside, I just wanted to get my food to-go though. I knew I was going to get the fried chicken but everyone was raving about it in the reviews. I got half dark and half white meat and I thought it tasted great. The chicken was crispy and it was seasoned perfectly. It didn't taste like the generic salty fried chicken - there was a subtle kick in the crispy skin. I thought the mac and cheese and sweet potatoes were average though - nothing outstanding about them but nothing bad either. I have a huge sweet tooth but I thought the two desserts I got were way too sweet. The 7 layer caramel cake was okay (the cake was moist, but most delicious thing ever). The caramel creme was a bit too overbearing for me. And I was a bit disappointed with the chocolate fried pie as well. I've never tried fried pie but the breading was too greasy for me and overall it just tasted greasy and sweet. Maybe my taste buds aren't accustomed to the southern ways... All in all, I highly recommend the fried chicken! I got the sweet tea and it was good but nothing special too. I think the chicken was the only thing that made this place extremely memorable.

Yelp
What a great find. After having the afternoon to myself while my son was in his Armor Officer School at Ft. Benning, I decided to look for a local hole in the wall to grab some lunch. That led me to Minnies... an "old school" cafeteria style bare bones restaurant in the middle of a residential neighborhood near downtown Columbus. The crispy fried chicken was really good and moist and being able to get some mac and cheese along with fried okra and a piece of cornbread made it all worth it. And the price??? $8.50 and that included the drink with all sweet or unsweetened tea you could drink. What a steal!!! . Next time I'm in Columbus...I will definitely hit up Minnies again! A+++

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat in town when I'm seeking comfort food. I love to get a veggie plate and their homemade cakes are delicious as well. I also love their casseroles when they have them and the service is always warm and welcoming. Parking is a pain, but that is the case with almost anything downtown during peak hours.

Suzanne G.

Yelp
Minnie's is Always Great Stopped by for a late lunch, and was pleasantly greeted as I entered. I ordered a fried chicken thigh and a pork chops plus sweet potatoes, greens and mac & cheese (wanted to be sure to have some to bring home for dinner later). Absolutely delicious, and the friendliest people around! Love it, and I'll be back!
google avatar

Christian P.

Yelp
I feel like this is the food that most home-cooking style restaurants aspire towards -- fairly simple recipes, not huge on presentation, but the flavors and price are right.
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
I just love this place. The food is authentic and made with love. I go as much as I can. I will be back soon.

Kim D.

Yelp
Minnie's is always good. Everyone is very friendly. Disappointed that my take out order was not complete. I should of checked before I left the restaurant.
google avatar

Ryan N.

Yelp
Your traditional southern, soul food, cafeteria. The staff is very welcoming, the food was FANTASTIC!!! I will make a point to come back to Minnie's!!
google avatar

William H.

Yelp
After visiting the National Infantry Museum (another 5*) wanted to check out downtown Columbus before I headed out of Georgia and once again Yelp steered me to another great restaurant. Soul food served up cafeteria style. This place has it all (channeling Stefon): quick, great food, wonderful service and cheap! Two entrees with two sides, Diet Coke and Banana cake $24 I had the chicken & dumplings with green beans and mashed potatoes. All of it delicious. Really, loved the atmosphere of this place. Felt a lot of love and goodness in the air. If in downtown Columbus you should check it out. This place is not open late so verify hours.
google avatar

Curtis H.

Yelp
My daughter is a local and recommend this place because of their great soul food. It doesn't look like much and they serve food on paper plates. However, the local food was beyond exceptional as was the southern hospitality....your crazy if you don't give this place a try!!!!
google avatar

A A.

Yelp
This place was a recommendation from a local. I was in the area for a training class for my employer. It's actually a hole in a wall type place serving during lunch hours only buffet style. I had the chicken dinner and my colleague had the meatloaf. Everything was good except the light skin dressing. First off, I call it stuffing and I like it brown with a little crisp. Hey to each is own. Overall, the food was delicious and customer service exceeded my expectations.

Yelp
I learned quickly that my go-to answer to any question here is "yes ma'am", as in would you like the catfish? "yes ma'am". How about fried chicken? Yes ma'am. Dessert? Yes ma'am. How about some sweet tea? Yes ma'am. And it's within walking distance to the Columbus Marriot on Front St. and the Georgia State Campus.
