I stopped by the lobby bar at the Anglers after reading about their "Jet Pilot" Tiki popup in the New Times. I'd seen the construction coming up for awhile on Washington Ave., and was looking forward to seeing the new venue.
Speaking of construction, I realize that the work going on another hotel across the street is keeping them emptyish. There were only a few other imbibers at the main bar when I stopped by after 930 on a Friday night. It'd be nice to see a bigger crowd when I'm partying, I'd come back on a livelier night and potentially upgrade my review.
While I waited for the popup Event, I stopped by the main bar and of course looked for a rum drink. Their "Do you even lift Bro" mixed Illegal Mezcal with cinnamon, earl grey tea and Banks 5 Island Rum. Smooth little cocktail for easy sipping. For the "popup" itself, it's held speakeasyish toward a back corner of the hotel. Look for the tiki torches to savor their "Painkilla" (dark rum, mango, orange, pineapple and coconut). They also had an absinthe drink I'd be tempted to enjoy with good company.
As far as bites, their pulled pork sandwich with pineapple relish was decently tasty.
Like every place on the beach, they charge 20% Automatic Gratuity and y'all know how I feel about that.
