Ann Arbor’s Best New Restaurants and Bars, May 2025 | Eater Detroit

"Fans of Miny’s in Ypsilanti are thrilled that the beloved taqueria has opened a location in Ann Arbor. The menu stays true to its roots, with flavorful asada and carnitas tacos, guacamole, and sweet treats like churros and deep-fried Oreos with ice cream. Place to-go orders online." - Mary Hayes Weier

Google
I feel like I’m a connoisseur when it comes to Mexican food, because it’s my absolute favorite! My husband and I have traveled to Mexico more than 20 times, and THIS IS LEGIT THE CLOSEST! I cannot say enough about the flavor and quality, as well as the quantity. For reference, we ordered: Huarache with shredded chicken, 20 pack of asado (steak) street tacos, rice, refried beans, chips, guacamole, pico de gallo, mild salsa and medium green salsa. All 20 tacos were FILLED with steak. I am so impressed with this place! The service is excellent and everyone is so nice. I will without hesitation will drive 30 minutes one way just for carry out. I can’t wait to go back!

Google
Minys is a great place for Mexican food at a very reasonable price. I ordered two different tacos and the total came to under $8! They don't have any tables inside, since it's basically a takeout place. Our party of eight sat at the two tables outside. Everyone liked what they ordered and the food tasted authentic and fresh.

TACO BURRITO

Google
Food was flavorful - steak was chewy. The pico was amazing I just was we had better meat. Overall the season and the sauces were great.

Saigopal Maddi

Google
Loved the food, lots of Mexican varieties to try, spice levels are good, one of the best Mexican restaurants, staff are amazing too

Juana Mancera

Google
I normally swear by Miny’s but this time service terrible, the guy at the counter mischarged us for extra side & the carnitas looks like dog food Carnitas is not supposed to look like that, I gave it to my dog instead

Google
Amazing food, they are take out only now but it is 100% worth it. Always get the corn tortilla for everything (tacos and quesadilla). My favorite taco is the steak and peppers (Alambre). The hot (orange) and mild (green) sauces are also unique and amazing.

Google
EDIT: The flauntas … AMAZING. I have truly found my new favorite AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant. Not to mention how efficient they are. 10/10 all the way around. I ordered two steak tacos just to try them out. Absolutely delicious , full of flavor and is an authentic TACO. The staff was incredibly friendly and gave recommendations as well. Very clean and well kept establishment. My tacos were done in quite literally five minutes. I don’t eat out often, but it is so lovely to have an authentic Mexican restaurant so close to home. I will absolutely be back.

Google
Their food comes up quick and it is delicious!! I always get the spicy chicken tacos!! If you haven’t tried Mint’s you are missing out!! I could only take one picture because I was ready to eat!! :)

Yelp
Coworker took me here for lunch, would have never probably tried it. Small little shop, no area to eat so takeout only. Service was fast. Amazing food! I wolfed down that wet burrito so fast I was choking. lol . On my list of places to go to again.

Yelp
I absolutely ADORE miny's. Ive been to many Mexican restaurants and even had a good few in Mexico, and these will be the most authentic street style tacos you will ever try in your life. Ive been coming here for the past few months having a taco as my reward after my appointments, and I swear I look forward to this meal for days. Just recently I ended up being one of those annoying customers who walk in with a 12 taco order, and kid you not, they got it to me in 9 minutes (yes, we timed it). Pinky promise, you cant go wrong with Miny's! p.s. there is not indoor seating for dining, only for wait. I believe in the summer they

Yelp
I only had Miny's a few hours ago and I am already dreaming of coming back. They are carryout or delivery only, and our takeout was ready super quickly. The car ride home was an exercise in patience - the food smelled so good that I just wanted to pull over to the side of the road and eat in the dark like a raccoon. Everything we ordered was great, but the shining star was the hurache. And the food didn't suffer from the 20 minute drive home - no soggy tacos! I wish there was an option to dine in, but Miny's seems to have their routine down. That's all you can ask for!

Yelp
Yes! Everything about this place made me feel like I was back in AZ. It's a small shop kind of in the middle of nowhere (sorry Ypsi!) conspicuously hidden behind a Subway. Service was really quick and I think I got all my food in less than 3 minutes! I got a slew of tacos, a quesadilla, and horchata. The meat was fresh, high quality, and distinctly delicious. The steak was finely diced, well seasoned, and moist. The cabeza was equal parts meaty, fatty, and collagenous, not for everyone but perfect for me. The barbacoa was shredded and soft and had a nice hint of chipotle. Finally, the fish subverted the traditional crispy filet you see in most taco shops for a more naked, shredded approach, and while I prefer the former, I was not mad at the latter! The quesadilla was a little different than what you'd expect consisting of a larger flour/corn tortilla folded over lettuce, 2 kinds of cheese, and meat. I prefer the purist form more but still pretty great! I'd say the biggest downside was the lack of dine in seating, so I had to eat in the car. My car now smells of salsa verde and onions, but it's a worthy sacrifice!

Yelp
Miny's is my favorite hidden gem in Ypsi. When I first moved to the area years ago, I fell in love with a great little Mexican restaurant and was crushed when I'd heard that it closed down... However I was simply overjoyed (seriously!) when I heard that the nice New Mexican restaurant in Ypsi is operated by folks who were involved with the old one! Miny's provides an excellent value proposition of great food at low costs. You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. My favorite is the Huarache and you've gotta try out the spicy red salsa as well. There's no seating at the restaurant but the takeout food is great and the staff is super nice. Overall, I'll go ahead and say this -- do yourself a favor and try Miny's! It's simply excellent.

Yelp
Everything is amazing we go to the broadway location and love it So glad there are more options in this area especially on Sundays
google avatar

Yelp
Miny's is almost there in my opinion. Great placement, great service, great atmosphere just needs a little more seasoning.

Andrea B.

Yelp
Ordered from the Ann Arbor location and it was so delicious! The salsas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and huarache were all excellent! We will be ordering again!

Phil L.

Yelp
The horchata is killer! The food was tasty! Service was spot on, it's really just a carry out, but they were quick and friendly.

Avilasha S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious tacos and quesadillas. I tried the al pastor and asada tacos as well as the campechana quesadilla and I enjoyed each one. Salsas were delicious too and friendly service as well!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
No fuss it's all about the meat filling and the pasa doble of two tortilla shell. Everything tastes homemade, and I am partial to the al pastor. A wonderful tropical pork marinade. The steak is my second go to. Basically a take out store front. lunch and dinner will keep me coming back. Towards the front of a large plaza with Planted Fitness and Dollar store. Signage is a little difficult to see from the road

Yelp
Fav Mexican spot in a2/ypsi the guys are all really nice always and my family has been coming here since back when it was a sit down restaurant! I'm a forever customer
google avatar

Ailun H.

Yelp
Most of their regular tacos are under $2 and are pretty sizable so this is quite a steal. I like to add avocado on mine which is an extra $0.50 per taco but it's still worth it to me! I came here with a friend and we ordered three tacos each and wolfed it down in less than 10 minutes. I ordered one al pastor and two asada tacos and I have to say the seasoning and marinade on the al pastor is AMAZING. The asada is really good as well! I also think their salsas are amazing. We both are satisfied with our meal and both paid under $8 for our super yummy dinner. As of now, Miny's is take out only.

Yelp
OMG! The BEST street corn ever!!!! Also, amazing Tacos. Simple to go place with some inside chairs to sit while you get your food. Rice and beans were fine. But the street corn and the tacos were out of this world. We're vegetarian so the mushroom tacos and the veggie tacos were great. Did I tell you the street corn was amazing!!!

Charlotte D.

Yelp
The best tacos in Ypsi... Go here you won't be disappointed!! I always get the steak tacos.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite pick for a quick and delicious Taco Tuesday. All of the tacos have great flavor, but the tinga, asada, and shrimp are my favorite. LOVE that guac and pico come with the tacos, and all salsas/ sauces have been on point. Taco combo is big enough to share!
google avatar

Suzanne B.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday means finding new favorite places to eat. On a recent evening of running errands on a Tuesday, I knew I needed to add in a pit stop to fill me back up. A quick Yelp search revealed Miny's, which happened to be close to where I was running around town, and was also a place which I hadn't visited yet. I popped in at dinnertime, and was immediately seated. The hostess/server brought over some chips and salsa. My friend hates spicy food, and even the "mild" salsa had a little kick to it, so that just meant more chips and salsa for me. When it came time for entrees, I decided to order a la carte, and got one Al Pastor Taco and one Campechano, along with a side of beans and rice. The grand total for that came to less than $6, but great price aside, it was flavorful and filling to boot. Taco Tuesday comes but once a week, and next time it rolls around, make it a Miny's evening, for a new place you're sure to love as well!

Sophie W.

Yelp
Absolutely huge portions and super delicious. I highly recommend trying Miny's. They also have tripe and lenga which I appreciate

Yelp
Stopped by for quick dinner before heading home. The last time I was here, it was under different name, can't tell if the menu offerings are the same or not, but after reviewing the menu, went with the following items: - Huaraches with Al Pastor - 3 taco combo meal (al pastor, spicy chicken and chorizo). While their food was decent, there was no "wow" factor that jumped out at me. The taco's, to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference between their taco and say Taco King's tacos... it tasted about the same. I was not impressed with the beans and their rice was ok. I never had huaraches, its worth trying. The flavors were all there, reminded me of tostada, but instead of the tortilla, they used deep fried masa dough. You also get free chips and salsa after you sit down. Ok, I had two issues during my visit. - It was cold inside. Even if you sit away from the door and the windows, I still felt the cold breeze behind my back. - On the day I visited, it was super loud. There was one table of four people that were having fun, enjoying their conversation. However, their loudness and their laughter were too much, it overdrawn other conversations and to a point of being rude to other customers. Worth revisiting to try other offering, but I hope that loud group is not there on my next visit.

Yelp
Been meaning to try this place for quite some time now and sooo glad we did. You get chips and salsa with your meal (both delicious, but we were debating whether or not the chips were made in-house -- not super important) and everything we ordered arrived quickly. I had a carnitas sope and a chicken tinga taco. Gotta say it was probably the best tinga I've ever had. The sope was a nice option because you get the beans, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, and meat all in one go, on a delightfully crispy tortilla base. My dining partner also enjoyed his campechano taco and beans and rice. Their refried beans are full of flavor and the rice wasn't overcooked and mushy like at a lot of places. We both ate for $22 combined including tip, so the price is right! We've already decided what we're ordering when we come back. I can't wait!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're not paying attention you'll miss it since it's a small place that is for carry out only, but this is a place you don't want to miss! I came here strictly out of my craving for up a pambazo. For those who are unfamiliar it is like a torta sandwich with the bread soaked in spices with your choice of meat. I order mine with the classic of carne asada. I used to come here before the pandemic when it was still a sit down place and it was just as good as it was then. Quality food, great prices, friendly staff. So go ahead and support this humble business.

Yelp
The best authentic Mexican food in the area. The Tacos Alambre and the Flor de Calabaza Gorditas were incredible!

Katelyn B.

Yelp
It smells amazing when you walk in and they can have a simple food order ready usually within about 10 minutes! I've ordered from here 5 times. I'm addicted to their wet veggie burrito! Amazing food and nice quick service. :)

Eleanor B.

Yelp
Mindy's never fails to feed me with their huge and yummy tacos! Best tacos in the area!

Yelp
Yes, Mini's is still the best. BUT (and I have had this problem here before) PLEASE GET RID OF THE SCARY PANHANDLERS IN THE PARKING LOT. This is not the Ypsi of the mid 80's. This is affecting our desire to come back. :-( Easily the best Mexican street food in SE Michigan. Rivals the best taco truck in Mexicantown! Mini's tacos will call to you any time of day...you must heed that call. The meat has the perfect seasoning, the tortillas do not fail you the entire time and the menu selection is extensive for such a tiny place. I am pretty sure the chips are from a restaurant supply and fried on site but they have a great flavor just the same. The homemade salsas are on point, either flavor. 3 tacos is just about enough to satisfy an average person. Don't forget the juice! Those are delicioso.
google avatar

Lydia F.

Yelp
I love Miny's! Everything about this place is great. The Mexican food is authentic with a wide ranging menu. I've had the pork and jalapeño quesadilla (order 2), the chicken tinga gorditas, the carnita huaraches, and the tres leches cake (high demand, they run out fast). All of the food has been amazing with no complaints. Be warned that when they say spicy, it's a 4/5 level of heat. It's not miserable but you can power through it. So worth the runny nose lol
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
I had the combo taco meal with corn on the cob and it was great! The corn is so big and juicy and the flavors are mouth watering. The tacos were very filling and also had a great taste. The taco sauce paired well with the tacos. The restaurant was nice looking and clean as well. I would recommend you give this place a try!
google avatar

Derek M.

Yelp
Tasty food at a nice price. We do takeout from here for lunch. Everyone likes it. Perfect little takeout Mexican in Ypsilanti.
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Michigan. I miss tacos so much from being back in Texas and this is the closest I found to actually being good. I love the steak fajitas and my husband loves the chicken tinga. We all love the horchata in our home.

Taylor L.

Yelp
always soooooo gooood, fresh, quick, and just delicious every time. I appreciate a good lunch or dinner! I refer all my friends and family if they want something quick and just hands down the best come here !
google avatar

Shanna K.

Yelp
If you are looking for something fancy, this isn't the place, but if you are looking for friendly service and legit delicious Mexican food (with vegetarian and gluten free options), then you'll be happy here. They bring out chips with three salsa options, and have horchata in addition to Tamarindo and Jamaica to drink (plus bottled drinks). I like the enchiladas (refried beans are vegetarian, rice is not, so I get double beans). My partner likes their taco plate, though says it might be too much food. Few seats, so you may want to get it to go, but super stoked to have discovered their local place and regret not having done it sooner.
google avatar

Zhao C.

Yelp
This place is my favorite Mexican place in the area, and this time, we decided to cater tacos from them for our group event! Even with the large quantity request for our event, the food did not lose out on quality! When you dine in as well, they provide complimentary tortilla chips with a variety of spice dips. This place is family-owned, which makes it all the better to support too! If you're looking for authentic tacos, quesadillas, tortas, enchiladas, etc., look no further cause you definitely need to check this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
Chicken Tinga Tacos Lengua Tacos Street corn is sooo good!!! Are they open anymore??? I sure hope so! They are amazing!
google avatar

Meztli P.

Yelp
Great little place, really is a hole in the wall! Don't let the outside fool you. Overall the restaurant is a bit small but I think that adds a touch of Mexico. Service alone was great, the workers really treat you like friends. Don't remember her name, but she's new, super friendly and the epitome of customer service. Now the food, also great. Reminds me of my moms homemade meals as well as Mexico itself. I tried the al pastor and lengua tacos. They double tortilla the tacos, both lengua and pastor were very delicious. Single tacos are around $1.50-3 ish. They give you the hot sauce in bottles so you can control spice levels. Beware, the red/orange sauce is very spicy! The horchata was also very good, not watered down at all. Overall 5 star place, definitely would come back!
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
I'm so glad I read the reviews about this place, and tried it. Yelpers didn't let me down again. This place is a little secret spot that more people need to know about and try. It's kind of hidden and I've driven bye a thousand times. Everything taste great and the service is super friendly. I would give this place a try they won't disappoint
google avatar

P J.

Yelp
Miny's Mexican Restaurant is a small restaurant that has a constant flow of diners even on a late weekday lunch at 1:30pm The food was very tasty. The guacamole was fresh and punchy. My wife had the fish taco, a shrimp taco and a beef taco. The fish and shrimp tacos were great. I had the Chilaquiles with green sauce. Those were amazing. Please note that the restaurant's definition of spicy is very spicy. The only reason to knock the review for less than 5 stars would be due to selling out on Tres Leche's cake. We intend to come back soon.
google avatar

Tom C.

Yelp
The food was goid. I had two enchiladas with rice and beans. It was more than enough food to satisfy me. I hope this place does well so they can put some money into their building and cleaning supplies.
google avatar

Yao X.

Yelp
I have never dined in here but have been ordering to go for a while, they are always fast at preparing my orders. I love their steak tacos, its seasoned well and it goes well with their red hot salsa. The next best thing is chicken quesadillas, its in generous portion and tasty.
google avatar

Tonimarie C.

Yelp
One word: delicious! I got the wet burrito and 3 tacos (asada, el pastor, and chorizo). Everything was great, and I don't doubt that anything I didn't try is just as flavorful. Plus, they're mild salsa is so good - I wish I could buy a whole jar!
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
My favorite Mexican restaurant. Nowhere I'd rather go in MI. Lots of good options. Friendly staff. The tacos are amazing.
google avatar

Marcie K.

Yelp
Food is a solid 5. Atmosphere is 3, but very clean. It's mostly just uncomfortable seating and very chilly in the winter. I've always had great food here at any time of day, but before 12 the food is off the hook fantastic. My favorite thing on the menu is the Chilaquiles Rojos al pastor. Staff is friendly and everything is good quality.

Nautika A.

Yelp
One of the best mexican spots i've been i wish they stayed open later also service is fast and they're super friendly
google avatar

Minna A.

Yelp
Miny's tacos are reliable and never disappoints (only when inflation happens and their prices go up). My go-to tacos are Al Pastor and Asada, but I heard their specialty tacos are good too. I did try their sopes once, and I was not a fan. It was too soggy. Wouldn't get it again. I also tried the potato quesadilla, which was surprisingly good. I would probably get it again next time :)
google avatar

Jeremy R.

Yelp
I ordered from here via doordash. I ordered the chips and salsa, guacamole, and the chimichangas. First things first, the chips and salsa. A bit greasy on the chips, but had just the right amount of salt. The salsa came in a huge container and i would gladly order that every single time based on volume alone. The guacamole was disappointing. It needed lime, salt, or something else for flavor because it was lacking. I could have made better with what I had in my kitchen (and did the next night). The chimichangas, were decent. I had no complaints putting them or the rice and beans they came with down at all. I will order from or visit this place again in the future to try something else, but will definitely not order the guac unfortunately.
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
First time at this place, recommended by a friend. Small, but comfy, friendly staff. I was in search of breakfast. The menu is limited, just four offerings, but the standard fare, 3 scrambles and Rancheros. Added chorizo to the Mexicana, sauteed onions, peppers and jalopenas, it was very good. Beans, rice, tortillas and coffee were good, chips and salsa a bonus. Waitress was attentive throughout. Lunch/Dinner menu looks good, I'll be back to try it soon, especially the Tres Leches cake.
google avatar

Kiva M.

Yelp
This is the probably the best and most authentic Mexican food that you can get in the Ann Arbor area. It definitely has more of the "hole in the wall" vibe and only has a few tables inside, but the food is fantastic and if you are craving Mexican food, you will NOT be disappointed. I have only had the flautas (chicken and potato), which were absolutely delicious. This is not a "light" meal by anyyy means- is as so full and couldn't even start my 4th flauta. You will not leave hungry! When I went with my friends they both had tacos and quesadillas and had nothing but great things to say about the tacos. Everyone who works there is also extremely friendly and they are all very kind! I had a great experience and will for sure be returning and will probably go for the tacos this time!

Angel V.

Yelp
The food is amazing! Super flavorful, so many different options, and even some delicious desserts! We tried the combo tacos which came with three tacos (different proteins you can choose for each taco), beans, rice, some salsas, and guac. The tacos are really filling and so delicious. The salsas are super flavorful. We also tried the huarache chorizo and it was delicious! For dessert, we tried the fried oreos and tres leches cake and they were so good! Service is super friendly and the pickup area has a few seats which is nice when waiting for food. We will definitely be returning customers.
google avatar

Loni K.

Yelp
This small restaurant contains vast flavor and a welcoming warmth that I have not experienced at a Mexican restaurant before. We were greeted heartily upon arriving at Miny's, even though it was near closing and we weren't sure if they would still take customers. A basket of chips and a cup of salsa were promptly placed on our table. Our food was quickly served: two soft tacos (one steak and one regular chicken), and a steak burrito with sides of refried beans, rice, guac, sour cream, and pico de gallo. I was so impressed with the flavor of the food. Everything was absolutely delicious! I wish I had ordered more tacos. Ultimately, what impressed me even more about this restaurant was the kindness of the individual who I assume was the owner. It is restaurants like this that I will return to over and over again for food and good company.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
They're fast, their food is really nicely done, and they offer a wide range of fillings for their tacos and other goodies. A very enjoyable carryout option, well worth ordering from.
