Mixed emotions: I visited this pig cafe a year ago and recently went back because I had an overall positive experience, but it feels like it’s become a victim of its own success. There were noticeably more pigs in the room, and I saw a larger one repeatedly abusing the smaller ones with no intervention; all around the piggies don’t seem to enjoy being there :(.
I also noticed a lot of them foaming at the mouth, something I don’t remember seeing before. I’m not an expert, so I can’t say if that’s normal.
Last year the piggies were left to do as they willed but now, although the rules clearly state we shouldn’t lift them, the staff repeatedly picked them up and placed them on people’s laps; which might be unnecessary if you already have a bunch sleeping on you? 😅
Another issue: upon entering, you’re asked to choose a drink from a short list of basic options, which gives the impression it’s included in the entry fee, but it’s not. You’ll be charged for it at the end. Plus, they have a rule that you must finish your drink within your time slot, so be smart and don’t order a hot one unless you’re ready to gulp it down quickly.
Coincidentally both times the person at the entrance had an attitude that shows they don’t enjoy their work, but the staff on the rooms were the opposite, warm and nice.
The piggies are adorable, but what I experienced this time made me question whether the animals are being treated ethically, it left me feeling uneasy.
