"Following the devastating and deadly fires that tore through Santa Rosa last fall, the community has begun the overwhelming process of rebuilding. That includes the growing restaurant scene, which will soon include a market and restaurant called Miracle Plum, from Santa Rosa natives Sallie Miller and Gwen Gunheim. This is the first restaurant for both Miller and Gunheim, though both have ties to the industry. Miller, who will lead the kitchen, currently provides craft services for fellow local chef Guy Fieri’s Food Network show, Grocery Games; her first job was working under Gary Danko at Sonoma’s Cheateau Souverain. Gunheim has run her own catering business, and creates handmade wood tableware for restaurants like Marla Bakery. The duo has taken over a small, 113 year-old historic building that has had past lives as a tire store, dry cleaners, and thrift shop. Now it will start its next life as a market selling specialty food items, and eventually a quick-service restaurant, when they’re able to raise the funds. As a result of the fires, says Gunheim, every level of Santa Rosa’s planning and permits departments are completely backed up, slowing the progress of their construction and kitchen permitting. To move forward with their project, they chose to start with the market. When it opens this spring, the market will contain Miller and Gunheim’s favorite cheeses, oils, pastas and other specialty items, both local and from further afield. There’ll also be grab-and-go foods that will be prepared at an offsite kitchen, until they’re able to fully build out the kitchen. That will also include Miracle Plum’s own jams and condiments for sale. “In a lot of the towns in the area, like Healdsburg, there is a real lunch culture that i feel is missing from Santa Rosa,” said Gunheim. “A lot of grab-n-go options are pretty low quality food.” “Growing up in a place with so much abundance, we are forturnate to have access to all of this and it helped shape our palates and who we are in a lot of ways,” said Gunheim. “Whether it’s tacos or something handmade from someone’s backyard trees.” Dishes will be inspired by flavors from other cultures, but the ingredients will be local. “We have no shortage of good things in this area and thats part the thing we want to show, that it doesn’t have to be fancy to be good,” said Gunheim. “We just want to share our favorite things with people.” Part of that is collaboration, including plans to host local pop-ups. “At the very beginning of this process we sort of threw out ‘competition’ and really started focusing on collaboration,” said Gunheim. “For us that means using food others are making and growing, it means hosting food pop-ups in our space, inviting individuals, business, or organization into our space to teach or share. We truly want to make a cultural community space through the lens of great food.” The name, Miracle Plum, is another nod to Santa Rosa’s community of creators. It’s a variety of plum with no seed, invented by Luther Burbank, an horticulturist who also created the Santa Rosa plum, the spineless cactus, and the russet potato, among other things." - Ellen Fort

This is a beautiful store that operates as an intimate food market and a crafts shop with a strong emphasis on locally made goods. There were so many things I wanted to try--exquisite looking teas and spices and cheeses and sauces. I can't think of any other place like it in the county; at least none come to mind that feel as tasteful and sophisticated with as deep connections to local makers. It's a wonderful addition to Santa Rosa.

The BEST place to shop for a gift (even if you´re out of the country) .. Gwen and Sallie were so kind, helpful, and accommodating to my special request. They virtually helped me select a few gift items without me even having to step foot in the shop and what they picked out was PERFECTION! Every product they carry is thoughtfully selected and delicious. Really wish I had a shop like this in my neighborhood :) Thanks again!

I come here often to pick up loaves of artisan bread. The store has interesting character and a knowledgeable staff. Artist showings and other events add to the experience, and it's conveniently located, just a short distance away from both the Transit Mall and SMART downtown station.

Love my weekly trip for my see pals at Miracle Plum. Always able to find some delightful new wine. My CSA pick up there makes me eat my greens for the week. The salad is like eating a bouquet of flowers. Lately, we've been getting amazing fruits. Thanks ladies for making it such a great weekly treat!

Exceptional curated collection of wonderful spices, heritage grainsfrom local farmers, Asian ingredients, wine and fresh housemade offerings and helpful household items. Everything in the store is very well chosen, many things I've seen nowhere else. And now I can cook recipes from the Ottolenghi cookbooks -- Miracle Plum carries aged sumac & Urfa chilies too. Thank you!

I love this store and it’s one of those places you want to visit every time you are near. The owners have a real eye and it’s worth checking to see what’s new. Very excited to see where Sally & Gwen take their vision.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this quaint little shop on a lazy afternoon stroll through downtown Sonoma. What a fun shop! There's local items as well as items from far away. You walk in the door and are immediately standing in the cutest little art gallery curated by a local artist. Cookbooks and art and random cooking utensils and handmade cards are casually displayed. There's something for everyone here, there's also a fabulous wine selection in the back of the shop. I'd totally come back here if I'm ever in the area again. The owner is super sweet and laidback and gives great recommendations for dinner or gifts. Check them out!

Yelp
Like walking directly into Alison Roman's pantry. A dreamy place full of "who I'd like to be when I grow up" cookwear and aspirational single origin spices. Is it cheap? No, but that's not why you're there. You came to pick up a hostess gift that's going to earn you the "best guest at the dinner party" title. I picked up about 10 items for my dad's Christmas gift, and he still calls it his favorite gift of all time- that's priceless. Whenever I'm here, I can't help but pick up a few items for myself like a $22 vinegar and a bottle of natural wine with a label that says "I listen to the Dead Kennedys but also eat caviar every other weekend". I love this place, it's a little slice of heaven.

Yelp
I walked in just now to check this place out as I pass it everyday from Pilates. I have never met an unfriendlier place. The woman barely acknowledged me, and did not even look at me when left. I guess customer service or friendliness is something they don't value. If I am going to over pay for a handmade cup or item I'd at least like to be acknowledged.

Yelp
I have been meaning to stop by this shop since it first opened and I finally got the chance to meander in! I'm pretty sure I gasped because the decor is so cute. I love how rustic the shop is and the selection of products have been carefully thought out. I love the ceramics and artisan knives that they have for sale. And they even have a cookbook club that shares recipes together! I'm so happy I stopped by and found my new favorite shop

Yelp
What a delightful, thoughtfully curated store. If you're a foodie who likes to cook and want to support a local company while discovering higher end and more unusual ingredients, this is the place for you. Great place to find gifts too. Staff was nice. Enjoyed browsing ingredients from around the world you won't find in a normal grocery.

Yelp
So in love with this little store! They have a wonderful mix of yummy local food, and gifts/home stuff. I just wanted to photograph/buy everything. I'm so excited about the plans they have for the space, show them some love, Santa Rosa needs more businesses like this! I don't know if they plan on doing it again, but they had a dim sum pop up where you could order ahead and pick up on lunch. It was SO DELICIOUS. Hope they do more like this!!

Yelp
The best sandwich's on the planet! The salami presto can create intense cravings! I love the selections of wicked treats and spices too.

Yelp
TLDR: Natural wine! Local goods! Amazing female owners who know their sh*t! After passing by this store everyday on my way home from work, I'm so glad I decided to go in one day! Imagine a beautifully curated general store... one that seems like every item has a story. Many of the products are from local and/or women-owned businesses. They have all kinds of grab-and-go food and cheeses, along with artisanal pantry items and cookware. The two women who own the store are so friendly and knowledgeable! They give fabulous recommendations - whether it be about wine or local restaurants or what would taste good with the overabundance of tomatoes you have in your garden. Finally, their natural wine selection is great! The hand-written tasting notes they provide for each bottle makes the selection process approachable and not intimidating (although hard to pick just one or two bottles).

Yelp
This store got me through the first few months of the pandemic - finding and trying novel ingredients gave me something to look forward to and brought something a little more interesting to the endless at-home meals. It's a bit pricey for me as a daily treat but I love getting special items here, and it's a great place to find gifts for that discerning foodie friend you have.

Yelp
Obsessed! Super local, very oriented towards foodie, novice and expert. Beautifully curated, excellent customer service. Really special place!!

Yelp
What a Gem of little market with a great selection of local/regional groceries, wines, and beer. The owner, Sallie, is super friendly and knowledgeable about all of her products. She says they've been in the railroad square for about a year, and I think they are a great addition to Santa Rosa!

Yelp
I love this shop so much. Every time I visit I find some important, beautiful, or delicious thing I never knew I needed so much. I ALWAYS find something special. I bought the best broom in the world here. This place is what I always hope a museum gift shop is going to be (and never is) and it's everything a grocery store should be. Plus it's my favorite bookstore (Cookbooks!). Perfectly named.

Yelp
Great eclectic gift selection! Yummy sandwiches to go, organic wines, fresh eggs and milk. Local owners whom care about the environment and community. Recommend checking them out when you are downtown!
