9 Great Restaurants to Try in Kingston, New York | Eater NY

"Opened late last year at 636 Broadway (near O’Neill Street), Mirador is a tapas bar offering evolved Spanish bar snacks—plenty of seafood and fritters—and an up-to-the-minute list of buzzy Spanish wines." - Robert Sietsema

Come early, drink sherry. Kingston’s best best best late-afternoon hang.

The pan con tomate is a stand out — for sure worth a spot on your order and we debated ordering a second! However the menu changed recently and we found that it didn’t have enough offerings. The frisé salad ($16) is also steep for what it is — a bowl of bitter lettuce with a fishy dressing and some parm shaved on top. Mirador is a nice spot for a drink and a snack but for a fuller meal you may need to look elsewhere or be prepared for a heavy bill for small plates.

Our server was amazing, cocktails were very good. The atmosphere was not warm and cozy- but had the feeling of a casual pizza parlor, or a casual diner. It was clean, and nicely decorated, but it was not at all what we were expecting. The menu was very limited. What we saw online was more expansive. For the price, the cheese board was skimpy. The Romesco sauce that accompanied the pork lacked balance. It wasn’t super flavorful. The adobo emulsion for my fish was a bit too vinegary for my taste. The potatoes were undercooked and under seasoned. My cod fish was tasty but the portion was small. Whipped cream on the chocolate dessert was so incredibly salty. It just didn’t work. Perhaps salt on the chocolate itself would have been more effective. The bill came to over $400 for four of us, and overall, we left pretty disappointed. Service was great, so were the drinks, but nothing we consumed food wise was really delicious. Disappointing, and surprising especially considering all the amazing reviews.

I had high expectations after reading the reviews and it didn’t disappoint! Our favorite was the pan con tomate, it’s the best I’ve had! The tuna pintxo was very good too, so much flavor. The only “off” thing was that the Iberian pork had a lot of fat to my liking. and I’ve eaten a lot of Iberian pork so I don’t think it was reasonably for the dishes price, but it had a bunch of flavor! The flan had the perfect texture.

We recently visited Mirador in Kingston and was pleasantly surprised. It’s a cool, inviting spot that feels simultaneously refined and relaxed. I sat at the bar and had a terrific time chatting with the bartender—he gave me a mini-masterclass on fino and left me with a deeper appreciation for sherry. The tapas menu is creative and interesting, with offerings that reflect thoughtful technique and bold flavor. I sampled a few small plates, and each struck me as having its own spark. If you’re in the mood for tapas and want to try something beyond the usual, Mirador is absolutely worth a stop.

Absolute stand out!!! If you want to be instantly transported to Spain this is for you. The entire experience from start to finish was exceptional, from the greeting as though you’re family when you walk in to the delicious tapas style food and wine you cannot get anywhere else. Pan con tomate is by far one of the best bites of my life and the cocktails are impressive. Highly recommend this special spot as every aspect of the entire experience is highly thought through curated by the team behind Mirador! Pan con tomate I will be dreaming of you!!!!!

Yelp
Great food, great service, great vibes. No fuss excellent dining in Kingston. Highly recommend. Everything was tasty and well made, the open kitchen was quick and did an excellent job at cranking out dishes at a good pace. Our waitress was attentive and kind. The place was relatively full for a 7 PM dinner and got even busier as the evening progressed. Would highly recommend if in town.

Yelp
This is another drive-by find located on Broadway in Kingston, NY my non-Yelp husband noticed. We thought we could snag a table for the evening at this queue-worthy spot the same day we'd noticed it earlier in the day but timing wasn't on our side. We tried for a next time. The bar is open for walk-ins, greeting from the host/owner(?) was pleasant from the get-go and our server, was also on point the entire evening. For those who believe that sharing is caring when eating out, this might be for you! However, Mirador is one of those places where you look behind the menu and expect more options. This loosely inspired Andalucian spot offers selections way smaller than a typical tapa- but, in so saying, it's much loved for the vibe and menu. Although Mirador has accepted the Andalucian way, the food culture hasn't made its way to the menu and missed the mark on some heavy-duty Spaniard ingredients such as garbanzos, GARLIC, shrimp, etc. And while we're having that conversation, our "sangria" wasn't what we expected and made with tequila ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. We could barely taste the 4 tiny slivers of fluke crudo underneath a big citrusy and icy/foamy cloud topping and the same with the Chanterelles in our croquettes. If you want your customers to leave fast, then serve smaller-than-typical-tapas. The biggest tapa for us was a thinly sliced fennel+green salad in a refreshing dressing. If you want to sop up some bread in shrimp+ garlicky oil- none of the classic tapas are here. On the flip side, you come to Mirador because they do a terrific job of bringing people together over super lite and inventive bites and sips.

Yelp
After my 5th visit I think it was time to leave a review. This andalucían inspired tapas spot is a great addition to Broadway and the Kingston food scene. The menu is incredible and actually changes. New dishes on each time I've returned. Kitchen and prep area are visible which is easily visible from the bar - I enjoy having a view of the chefs at work. Specializing in sherry along with Spanish wines they have a very stacked menu of cocktails and vermouths as well. Service at the bar has been spot on each time I've been. Attentive and extremely knowledgeable. I'm not exactly sure how to describe the food here other than incredible. The smaller plates allow diverse tastings and exploration of many part of the menu. Never had a miss. It should be noted this is a popular spot. Reservation for tables fill up quick, especially on Friday/ Saturday. Pro tip is to show up about 30 minutes before dinner service starts at 5, sit at the bar for a glass of sherry and get going once the kitchen opens up. I hope to be back 1000 more times. Worth the trip!

Yelp
I really liked the atmosphere food and drinks. The service was top notch. I had a gin grapefruit with rosemary garnish cocktail that was fantastic. We then asked the server to pick out tapas choices and it was wonderful. I recommend giving it a try. You can't go wrong.

Yelp
The minute you walk through the doors it feels like you could be in Barcelona, except nobody is speaking Catalan or Spanish. The staff at Mirador are very welcoming at this cozy restaurant. We ordered a couple of tapas and some non alcoholic beverages. I ordered the nuestra tortilla which was perfectly and delicately executed but, for the price, it reallly should be twice the size. Yet... it was devine! The plate of patatas bravas is a fairly large portion and nicely seasoned. I wished I had ordered the ensalada primavera, but I was saving room for the flan flavored panna cotta. This tapas bar is a bit pricey but, it is like going out in Spain without the jet-lag. If you love tapas... Mirador is a must!

Yelp
Mirador is classy and very approachable. Our first visit was a sherry tasting class conducted by one of the owners. He is passionate and well versed. Our second visit was with friends for tapas and dinner. Both visits left us satiated in mind and body. Having just visited Barcelona, I would consider Mirador authentic and upscale. The food is of excellent quality, and creative. The service is primo. Walking away from Mirador you are left with the feeling of being introduced to authentic Spanish cuisine and drink without compromise. We'll be sure to return again and again.

Yelp
The food was sublime- small, tapas style dishes - each was exquisite. Service and ambiance were also 10/10. Will definitely go back. Small place w tons of clientele- make a reservation!

Yelp
I wish I could give 2.5 but I can't... Mirador mirador on the wall, who is the fare-est of them all? Why, you are certainly in the running! Went for lunch with a friend to check it out. 5 dishes two glasses of wine and she also got a coffee and a bubbly water. Tinned fish wasn't actually fish but whatever, it was fine (razor clams). Toast with tomato was memorably not ok. Cured meat was tasty but meager. Wine was equally "ok". Over $100 later we left and I went home and ate lunch. Why? Why is it ok to charge so much for so little? I know rent is high, I know electricity is high, I know payroll is ridiculous, but that's not my fault! Figure out a way to appease ur patrons wallets or stomachs but don't leave both wanting.... Please. Because I am a sucker, I will go back for dinner. I hope to have a better experience.

Yelp
This is hands down the best restaurant in Kingston. Warm, professional staff, unique menu full of exquisite and authentic foods from Spain, sherries, wines, etc. What an incredible attention to detail, ambiance, and vibe too. Mirador truly sets a new standard for cuisine, community, and feel for Kingston.

Yelp
I love the interior design of this restaurant! The environment is so welcoming as well as the staff are really kind, attentive and have genuine service attitudes. I went for the paella party on the back, outdoor patio. The place has such an upbeat, positive vibe. I loved the mock tails, and the chef made a special vegetarian paella, in addition to the regular paella. I loved the way the eggplant was cooked, and it was just so deliciously seasoned. previously, I visited and ordered a whole variety of plates from the tapas menu. Really enjoyed that as well.

Yelp
We had a great time. Excellent service the food is beautifully prepared and delicious. The portions are small but tasty. Good wine list. Interesting menu.

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks. Great ambiance - it's a beautiful space. Unique Spanish Tapas, which is a great culinary addition to the Hudson Valley!

Liz H.

Yelp
Beautiful plates, authentic flavors with a modern twist and incredible service. So happy to have a little slice of Spain the Hudson valley!

Yelp
We stopped in because we heard it was the place to be in Kingston. The vibe on a Monday night was impressive. The bar was full and all the fashion was there. What wasn't there was the Spanish sensibility. We've been to Spain a lot and we understand the culture. Tapas is about drinking, eating and socializing with little formal agenda. But charging top dollar for very little food is just not the sensibility of Spain. The menu is a tad incomplete with no croquettes or camarones al ajillo. The quality is not bad, but the quantity is just insulting for the money. At one point we laughed out loud when the waiter put down a butter plate of Jamón Ibérico with three little crackers and a quarter slice of tortilla for the table. $200 later we learned our lesson and walked down the street for a slice of pizza because we were still hungry. If you want great ambience and a fun vibe, this is your place. But if you want authentic tapas that are satisfying, keep looking.

Yelp
We had a special meal tonight at Mirador and the service was superb. I loved it and look forward to returning.

K D.

Yelp
What a marvel. The food was superb, and the selection of sherries and vermouth was both delicious and educational. The service was friendly and very professional. Better to make a reservation. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
very nice cocktails and nice service. good ambiance, could be more comfortable. beautiful fresh spears of romaine and radicchio you can crunch on, jamon serrano is fresh and perfect. the patatas bravas are made from king's valley diner fries with paprika and mayo, priced not accordingly. the smells of dessert filled the air as we finished our evening. walking that line between chi-chi and down to earth. they'll catch on that they're in kingston and loosen up a little bit. they're still new.
