The 26 Best Restaurants in Panama City | Eater

"Since 2008, Miranda Bakery has been a family favorite in the San Francisco neighborhood, operating from a bright, welcoming home with terrazzo floors and a stunning emerald green counter. Husband-and-wife team Jonathan Bito (executive chef) and Ana Cristina Henriquez (pastry chef) hand-make every loaf and pastry. Famous for their burger, the duo has expanded to offer exceptional sandwiches, like the honey mustard chicken or tuna melt, paired with rosemary fries or sweet potato fries drizzled with honey. Save room for dessert; weekends feature dulce de leche lava cake, though classics like devil’s food cake or a chocolate chip cookie never disappoint." - Jorge Chanis

The place is beautiful… though far from me… and I made the trip up just to try it. The croissant looks incredible, and the ingredients are clearly high quality. But the one I got had an overpowering eggy taste from the glaze, and the cheesesteak sandwich was far too salty. I mentioned it to the man who seemed like the owner, and his response was simply, “It happens.” At the very least, I would’ve expected a small gesture like offering a slice of cheesecake.

Recently refurbished, this bakery offers casual yet creative and innovative cuisine in Panamá. Perfectly cooked hamburgers, Pastrami and Cuban sandwiches as well as Kale Caesar Salad. Specially for Thanksgiving they developed a Turkey with Cranberry sauce on Pumpkin bread. Outstanding desserts such as The Carrot Cake and coffees are always fresh. Service aims to please. Very recommended!

We had a couple of sandwiches, and they were pretty good, especially the jalapeño popper. Portions are big so we were quite full and didn't have the chance to have desserts, but they looked pretty good. Will come back to try them for sure.

I always look for a nice brunch cafe. And this place put on top of my lists now. I ordered four different cakes and all of them were fantastic with coffee. One thing I have to remind that they don’t open on Monday. I will visit again soon.

Really awesome little cafe in the San Francisco neighborhood in Panamá City. We ordered the pastrami sandwich and grilled cheese for lunch. Both sandwiches were delicious as the pastrami and breads are made in house. I liked the pastrami better than the grilled cheese, but I didn't like the rye bread. I'm not a huge rye fan, so I'd probably ask and see if they can sub it out next time. For dessert we had a passion fruit merengue pie with an iced latte and passion fruit juice. Coffee is awesome, they get it from Boquete. The tart was good, but I wish there was more of a passion fruit taste to it with a little less merengue. But the duo who owns this place are doing a fantastic job. It's a cool place to get some great lunch and coffee.

This bakery and cafe is a true gem in Panama City. The husband and wife team are graduates of the Culinary Institute of America, and they apply the techniques and experiences they learned there to create the most marvelous versions of local specialties like mamallena bread pudding and tres leches cake. When I've taken friends there, they've actually said, "this is nothing like the bread pudding I grew up eating." At Miranda, they bake and toast their own croutons to be cooked in the yummy custard and then topped with their homemade praline sauce. But it doesn't stop there. They also make the most wonderful kouign amanns, sourdough breads and croissants -- you'll think you waited in a long line in the Mission in San Francisco to have them. The dark horse of this place is actually not sweets, nor breads, but their burgers. They are the juiciest, freshest beef patties and topped with high-quality cheese, bacon, eggs, veggies on a seeded Parker House roll made in house. The grilled cheese on sourdough bread with tomato sauce is a terrific alternative as well. Yes, these are all cheat day items, but if you have fall off the wagon, you might as well do so with the highest quality ingredients in a charming setting. *I’ve revised this to 5 stars because I realize that as far as bakeries are concerned, there are few that stand up to Miranda’s quality in Panama and beyond.
