Visiting Mirogoj Cemetery felt more like a stroll through a serene sculpture park than a traditional burial ground. The arcades designed by Hermann Bollé are simply breathtaking—graceful arches, ivy-covered facades, and dignified mausoleums that reflect both sorrow and beauty. Despite some areas still showing damage from past earthquakes, the atmosphere remains profoundly tranquil.
This place isn’t just architecturally stunning; it’s a cultural treasure trove, housing the graves of some of Croatia’s most notable figures. Paths lined with horse chestnut trees add a poetic charm, making it a contemplative escape from the bustle of downtown Zagreb.
Tip: Don't attempt to walk from the Old Town—it’s a pretty steep hike! Public transport, especially buses 106 or 226, make the trip much easier.
Whether you're a history buff, an architecture lover, or just someone seeking quiet reflection, Mirogoj is a must-see.
