Miru Kyoto Nishiki | Best places to stay in Kyoto

"If you’re after an old-Kyoto meets contemporary Japan vibe, geared to a hip crowd on a budget, this boutique hotel a block north of Nishiki Market in central Kyoto will hit the spot. Outside, the Miru mimics the look of a traditional machiya townhouse. Inside, the 23 rooms incorporate touches like paper screen windows or, in some cases, patches of tatami flooring. Just be aware they are on the small side – aimed firmly at couples and solo travellers. Along with good design on a budget, a major reason to opt for the Miru Nishiki is location – as well as the market, it’s a short walk to the lively Shijo-dori avenue, from where you could walk to the Gion geisha district or catch the bus and subway to almost everywhere worth seeing. A bonus – there are dozens of good restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood too. " - Rob Goss

Rooms are huge for Japan standards. Immaculate and clean. Everything feels new/premium. The rooms don’t feel or smell humid because they have air filters in them. The staff was super friendly. There’s free laundry and it’s right next to the food market. You can’t go wrong- great value!

I stayed at the branch in Niseko and now also here and the service is absolutely incredible and super friendly. I accidentally made a mistake with my booking and the hotel was super fast in the communication and very understanding. Rooms were also very nice and clean and the beds were comfy. Location is also really nice with nice stores, restaurants and activities all within a walks distance.

I had a wonderful time in this hotel. The highlights: - Great and kind staff (Dodi was super kind). They did bookings for restaurants for me which was a big plus - They have a washing machine and a drying one - They give you croissants everyday. Plus, the room has coffee, tea and water (refilled daily). - The room was clean, enough space for everything. - Great location! I would definitely stay here again If I’m back in Kyoto.

Amazing hotel. I was there a couple weeks ago and they gave us the best recommendations for eating, cigarettes and more. Very friendly staff, smooth porter went perfectly with them and I'd love to stay there again if I ever come back to Japan. Thanks everyone, we had a wonderful stay.

My partner and I stayed at Miru Kyoto Nishiki from April 11–16, 2025, and it was easily one of the most welcoming and service-oriented hotel experiences we’ve ever had.||||From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like truly valued guests. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely kind, warm, and eager to help, going above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. They offered fantastic restaurant recommendations and even made reservations for us, ensuring we had access to some of Kyoto’s best dining.||||The hotel itself is tucked just off Nishiki Market, in a perfect central location that made exploring Kyoto on foot and by transit incredibly easy. Despite being so central, the hotel felt quiet, calm, and serene—a true oasis.||||One thoughtful touch we really appreciated: free laundry machines and detergent available to guests—so helpful during a longer trip. Our room was stylish, spotless, and comfortable, with a soothing minimalist design that felt uniquely Kyoto.||||We’ve stayed at many boutique hotels around the world, but Miru Kyoto Nishiki stands out for its heartfelt hospitality and ideal location. We wouldn’t hesitate to return—and have already recommended it to friends.

This hotel was phenomenal. My friend and I have been staying in hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto for two weeks and this was by far the best one. The staff were lovely and so accommodating. The hotel itself is modern and very nice, but the real stand out was the service. There were so many nice touches by the staff. We got our luggage forwarded here and they had already put our suitcases in our room for when we arrived. They also helped us with luggage forwarding and stored our overnight bags for us so we could walk around that day unencumbered. They even gave me a nicer bag for my overnight things when I came down with my clothes and toiletries in a carrier bag! There are free croissants provided each morning. There was a microwave in our room (great for warming onigiri!). The WiFi was very good. The toiletries provided were of very nice quality. The location is right by Nishiki market, but it's quiet inside the hotel. We were honestly sad to leave! I will be recommending this hotel to my friends and family and I wouldn't hesitate to return on a future trip to Kyoto.

I would very highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto - tremendous staff, location, quality, and value. We (family of four) just completed a four night stay in two rooms. Starting with the welcome when we arrived, the staff was excellent. I sent a note beforehand to let them know that we would be arriving early (1pm instead of 3pm check in), and they made sure our rooms were prepared. The rooms are not large but are very nice - excellent beds, baths, A/C, etc with all of the standard amenities one expects in a nice Japanese hotel. There is a free laundry machine on the first floor that works well (I would recommend using it very early). The location is outstanding - very close to the main shopping and tourist areas, and easy access to two metro lines (and also the main Kyoto station via the metro). Kyoto itself is a very nice city, and we also had a few outings to climb Mt Inari and to Nara - very easy access to both. My thanks to the staff for their hospitality and I hope to return soon.

One of the best places I have ever stayed, especially as a solo traveller. Atmosphere was beautiful, calming & welcoming with an unbeatable location if you want to access Nishiki Markets and surrounding areas. Staff were so friendly & helpful - going above & beyond for their guests. 2 nights was not enough & my only issue is I wish I could’ve stayed longer! If I ever find myself back in Kyoto this will be where I’m staying.
