My sister and I dropped in to catch up over dinner on a Tuesday around 6:00pm. I live pretty close by, and thought this would be a rad place to try; it's pretty new, and I'm a huge sushi fan, so I was stoked to visit for the first time.
My first impression of the setup and ambiance in the restaurant was super positive - the decor is kind of eclectic with mismatched chairs at every table and random banners and wall art adorning the walls and ceiling, and the vibe was laid back and casual. We were greeted immediately by a super friendly young lady and seated at a cozy two-top near the entrance.
I'd say, between the time we sat down and the time we were acknowledged by anyone was about fifteen minutes... which was a huge bummer. The restaurant wasn't super busy, but everyone seemed to be rushing around like they were insanely stressed out. I'm not really sure what was up. By, regardless of that, we spent the time just chatting, so it wasn't nearly as big of a bother as it'd have been in any other scenario (honestly still kind of frustrating, though).
Despite the wait, our server was very friendly, apologized for the wait, and asked if we had any questions before we ordered. We ended up getting seaweed salad, a teriyaki chicken skewer, and an assortment of different sushi and sashimi. I love sashimi - my sister, not so much (she's a totally picky eater) - so we got a couple different rolls she knew she would be able to handle, and I was still able to get my fix.
While waiting for our food, we got a couple drinks and continued our conversation. I feel like I'm usually a pretty patient person, but everything was so slooooow! Our sushi came out first, followed by the seaweed salad, and then (about 20 minutes later) the chicken skewer. My sister wanted to try and wait to eat the sushi until she had the chicken (just in case she didn't like something, and needed a familiar flavor to "wash it down" lol), but we were starving, so waiting even longer was near impossible.
The seaweed salad was good; definitely on par with others I've had, but different in the sense that there were two different consistencies of seaweed, and cucumbers were cut up as a garnish. Our sushi was decent; we got the poke roll (I know there's more to the name) veggie tempura, tuna and mackerel sashimi, and snapper nigiri. Personally, my favorites were the snapper, tuna, and poke roll; mackerel wasn't really my fancy, but there may have been more than one reason for it. My sister really liked the poke and veggie tempura rolls, and gave the sashimi a go (so proud!), but wasn't a fan. The chicken skewer was yummy, and whatever the slaw stuff was that came with it was super good, too.
I've had sushi a bunch of different times in my life, so this time wasn't really new and exciting, but I'd be interested to try their ramen, as it seems to be something that is both yummy and super popular at this place. Although the food was decent, it wasn't out of the box in any way, and the fact that my sister and I just sat around for a good chunk of time without being acknowledged are the main reasons for the three stars... I'd have given 3.5 if it were possible, and I'm hoping a return visit will bump them up for me, but for now, all I have to go on is a single visit.
