This Cafe was about a 7 min walk from our motel, and it is so beautiful and calm on a Sunday morning.
The menu is extensive and doesn't even list everything in the bakery cases. I had the House toast (it listed different ingredients than what were used but I assume it may be what's seasonal/available, though that isn't really stated clearly), the spinach mushroom and cheese croissant, a cinnamon toast crunch latte (hot) and a new banana milk latte (iced).
The House Toast was amazing! Whoever put these ingredients together was a genius. Mine did not have the peaches, which I was excited to try so that was a little disappointing, but when I tried it that thought disappeared. It has blueberries, raspberries and possibly blackberries, spinach, cherry tomatoes and balsamic glaze on top of a cheese (I can't tell if it was the listed cheese or not). I am so insanely impressed by this and will be attempting to recreate this at home.
The spinach mushroom and cheese croissant I had warmed, and it was fluffy, buttery, crispy, all of the good croissant adjectives. It could have done with maybe a small bit of salt but every other aspect was delicious.
My cinnamon toast crunch latte was great, exactly what I expected, until the last sip was all sugar syrup.
The banana milk latte I was intrigued by, and had to give it a taste. I did bot pay attention to the fact that it wasn't mixed and my first sip was ALL ESPRESSO. This is my fault and after mixing, it was thick, creamy and pretty good, even not being much of a fan of banana. I wish I had mixed it first though because that first sip kind of ruined it for me.
Altogether the meal was amazing, delicious and the Cafe was beautiful with art all on the walls and lovely thriving plants everywhere. The cost was more than I expected but it's Chicago, you've got to expect to pay more in this city.
Thank you to the chef and baristas who put together this scrumptious meal!
