Paris’s Most Exciting Restaurants Are in Belleville | Eater

"Since opening in 2017, this bright, plant-filled bar has helped establish the neighborhood as a serious cocktail destination by combining a friendly, laid-back vibe with adventurous mixing; a predominantly female bartending team led by Margot Lecarpentier concocts inventive drinks such as a green-curry-and-gin cocktail called Musette that blends curry, cilantro, lemon, raspberry, and egg white." - Vivian Song

This gym has a very supportive and welcoming environment, teaches technical and creative jiu jitsu, and is overall just a wonderful place to be. Cha, the founder and head coach, is very approachable and cares deeply about creating a safe space for everyone to learn martial arts. This is the type of gym where people come and stay because of the great community.

I’ve been going to Misfit for half a year now and really love it here! They are very welcoming and have a rare majority of female/non-binary people here which is very unique! Coach Cha has excellent instruction, the techniques are current and I’ve learned so much from the details she gives. I’ve been doing jiu jitsu for several years and this gym stands out as one of the most friendly for women.

A very relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere to learn jiu jitsu. Coach Cha often gives people direct and personal feedback after rolling with them which I find extremely helpful in my development.

I've only taken a few BJJ classes so I was pretty new. It was so much fun! The instructor is excellent and so knowledgeable. Great atmosphere, and everyone is nice.

We went to the children's class on Sunday morning. I've been researching different places for over a year and my main reasons for not enrolling at other places were: 1. Safety (I didn't want my kid being thrown 20 times in a row or more, I saw some kids limping after class), 2. Class size (having a large class is okay if the teacher has control but when they don't it's just too much chaos), 3. Fun (the kids should have fun while learning, we're not training them to be the next martial arts master we want them to learn how to protect themselves), 4. Not paying to play (we want the kids to advance on merits not on how much we pay per testing cycle. Trying to explain to your child that they are advancing on a schedule not on merit is hard to impossible which makes your child think they are martials arts geniuses), 5. Respect (we saw too many kids using what they learned to bully others. The teachers were adamant that the kids knew and had the fear of the googleyeyed spaghetti monster in them that they not use what they learn to hurt others). Misfit Combat is amaze balls. Before we took the class both boys were almost in tears saying they didn't want to go. Afterwards they both said they liked it and definitely wanted to go back. The reasons why they liked it: 1. Small class size so it wasn't intimidating for them. 2. Fun class, not only learning basic forms but also playing games to help strengthen their body. 3. Not a lot of yelling. My kids have audio sensitivity so it wasn't loud music or yelling. "Just enough yelling" was how my kids put it. 4. Excellent teachers. The teachers both were teaching to each individual child's level and need. Some kids were apprehensive about kicking and punching and the teachers worked with that. If you have a shy kid this is a great place to start them. They are super LGBTQ friendly so whatever your child identifies as they will be accepted. To be honest the class looked so fun me and my husband are going to ask if we can join in next time. If you're interested they have drop-in classes for $25. It's worth it to try it out and show your kid that it can be fun.

Yelp
Super welcoming and inclusive ! Beginner friendly too. The owner was super nice and even made a special trial offer when I said I was only here for a couple of weeks.

Yelp
super clean/hygienic space and mats. incredibly respectful group of people every time, professor included. (aesthetically pleasing interior as well!) beginner friendly yet simultaneously challenging for upper belts. my impression is it seems more chill off the mats than some gyms. i've only done BJJ here but there's also a weight training room and a wide variety of other classes.
