The Newest Restaurants In Chicago

"This sushi spot in Lincoln Park has a small, underground space that looks fairly sleek. They're currently BYOB, and besides offering a variety of classic and special rolls, nigiri, and small plates like soft shell crab, they have some rice and noodle bowls, too." - john ringor, veda kilaru, nick allen

I found this hidden gem on IG and was wanting to give it a try. I got to visit it this past weekend for dinner after craving some good sushi - and I’m so glad I went! Entering the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by the super friendly staff and noticed the well decorated, modern interior. They helped a lot in making some great recommendations as everything on the menu sounded very good. The recommended appetizers and sushi were absolutely delicious!! The truffle salmon roll was my personal favorite, and I also enjoyed the crispy rice which had just the right amount of crunch and flavor from the spicy tuna. I got the karaage and the soft crab for appetizers - the texture was perfect as they were both tasty. I would definitely be recommending this place to my sushi loving friends and to tourists visiting the area! It’s right next to Lincoln Park and the zoo so it would also be a great date night spot. I'll definitely be coming back!

We came to try this place out after stumbling on their IG @trymisoandnori, and I’m so happy we finally got to try it! I was very impressed by the exceptional quality and presentation of the food. I highly recommend the chicken karaage and soft-shell crab—both fresh but also crispy on the outside! The Zuke Sake is unforgettable, perfectly marinated and topped with fish roe. We also tried the Truffle Salmon and Ocean Breeze rolls, and both were 10/10—super fresh! A shout-out to the fantastic and friendly staff! The service was prompt, and they ensured we had everything we needed. This is a must-visit for anyone in the area or anyone craving high-quality Japanese cuisine in a cozy, intimate setting. I can’t recommend it enough and can’t wait to return!

This restaurant solidly deserves five stars and is totally worth your money! As it being something I recently discovered near home it's ABSOLUTELY my new favorite place to bring people! Tonight I tried something new: their tempura Udon and something that's quite a favorite: the Flaming Hotate roll! Both were delicious and well balanced, intense flavors too. Beautiful presentation might I add! Had a sushi classic as well, a California roll, better than I've had around here in a while! Topped it off with some fresh mochi strawberry ice cream! The atmosphere of this place is modern and sleek while still being relaxing and family-like! Thanks so much to Sarah for the excellent customer service tonight and explaining the dishes to my grandparents!

My husband and I loved this place! We ordered two sushi rolls (spicy tuna and rainbow) and two crispy rice menu. Sushi rolls are amazing-- really fresh and there were plenty of tuna and salmon!! Crispy rice menu are really unique and it's definitely one of their signature menu!! We would definitely want to visit again.

What a delightful experience! The food was superb, the ambiance was inviting, and the service from the staff was exceptional. Our appetizer, the crispy rice, was a standout dish that shouldn't be missed! The rice had a perfect crunch, and the spicy tuna topping was bursting with flavors. For our main dish, we had the chirashi don and truffle salmon, both of which showcased high-quality fish. Even my little girl's beef bento box was a hit. We've finally found my go-to sushi spot.

I finally found an excellent sushi spot in the Chicago area! After a long search for good quality sushi, this place truly stands out. The fish is incredibly fresh, and you can really taste the difference. The service is spot on, and every dish we tried was fantastic. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning!

Went to this place on a Friday and we didn't have to queue. The rainbow rolls, sushi and tempura were all great but the highlight of the night was the Flaming Hotate special rolls! We also got black sesame ice cream for dessert. Not a lot of places have black sesame ice cream so it was a pleasant surprise. Will definitely come back to try other rolls!

Yelp
What an absolute delight! Intimate seating, incredible rolls, and genuinely kind staff. I DREAM about the mango fire tuna roll. What a perfect roll. Not pictured, the spicy tuna crispy rice and edamame. I hope this place succeeds! It is in a hidden/discrete location which can be tough.

Yelp
As a beloved Sushi O Sushi customer, I had to try Miso & Nori as soon as it opened. It's tucked away on Armitage in an underrated stretch of great food spots. Upon walking in, it gives an intimate and modern feel with the black and tan contrasting color scheme. The lighting is nice and the staff is friendly. I had the pleasure of chatting with TJ, the owner, and am optimistic on the trajectory of the restaurant. We ordered the Armitage roll, Truffled Tuna roll, and the Zuke Sake Nigiri. We received the crispy rice sampler as a social media promo for their soft opening during April, and also received a salmon roll on the house! The Armitage roll was the best of the four rolls, and I'm glad to say the legacy of Chef Andy lives on through this roll. I really enjoyed how the tuna was very finely chopped on top of the roll. The Truffled Salmon roll was also good as it has my favorite sushi rolls wrapped into one: Salmon, avocado, and shrimp tempura, plus some spice. It didn't have as much truffle flavor as I was expecting, but still delicious. The Zuke Sake (marinated salmon) nigiri was so good I forgot to take a picture. The crispy rice was excellent and will be ordering again. I just love crispy rice lol, especially a crunchy spicy tuna crispy rice. The salmon roll was a solid staple. Hoping that there is potential for it to be an option for those looking for cheap takeout on a random day. I'd definitely recommend Miso & Nori as a nice sushi spot that could be dressed up or down. Anything from a casual sushi dinner with friends to a nice date night. It's currently BYOB although I'm not sure for how long. They also play good music there which is a vibe. Hoping to try their lunch soon because the additional crispy rices, bowls, and bento boxes look really good on their instagram!

Yelp
New sushi restaurant in town! Overall the food was great and special. The ingredients were fresh. Lots of special made rolls/nigiri. Chiraishi Don: Finely thick sliced sashimi over the rice. Great way to try out all of the fishes. The flower adds a great presentation to the dish. Adds soy sauce and wasabi to adjust the taste. Sake Don: Similar to Chiraishi Don, the salmon was thickly sliced. The lemon adds a hint of sourness to the dish. I would suggest on ordering Chiraishi Don to try out the different fish slices. Mango Fire Tuna: The sauce adds uniqueness to this roll, it greatly balanced with the roll (not overly spicy). The tempura is well fried, still can taste the crispiness when biting into the roll. Overall, a well flavored and textured roll. Snowfox: Another special and unique roll. The pepper on top adds a touch kick to the roll which perfectly match with the spicy and the white tuna. It's too bland or too salty. Spicy Tuna (Crispy Rice): Very interesting roll that you won't find anywhere else! The fried rice adds a great crunch and the pepper on top adds a great spice to it. Definitely worth a shot. Zuke Sake: My favorite of the night! The salmon is well marinated, greatly flavored. I think this is a must order nigiri! I think it matched well with the lemon juice by adding a bit of sourness to it (but overly sour where it will steal the flavor of the salmon). Flaming Hotate: Another special roll, the spicy scallops is well flavored and matched perfectly with the black rice. Everyone enjoyed this roll. Definitely a great choice, it is flavorful and has a great texture to it. Soft Shell Crab: A great appetizer to start off. It is shift and crunchy! The sauce adds a great flavor to the crab! It is a nice combo with the drinks. Overall the special roll is unique and fishes are fresh! It's not too overly priced. One suggestion is that the rice can be softer and sticky. The service was great, they made sure we had everything we needed and always checked in with us. The environment was nice and cozy. The dim light really adds a distinctive atmosphere and vibe to the restaurant. It is a great choice to hangs out with friends, family, and loved ones. Hope this place will drawn more attention with their special made rolls.

Yelp
Sushi O Sushi was my friends and I's go-to spot (many reasons like amazing ma&pa service, good sushi, great prices). I was excited to try Miso & Nori hoping it would be even better! Ambiance is nice, I like how they modernized with the dim lighting and redone interior. Seemed pretty full for a Thursday night. BYOB is always plus! Sadly there are no more crab/cream cheese Rangoon's on the menu. I ordered the crispy tuna, pork gyoza, armitage roll, + spicy tuna roll. HOLY TINY PORTIONS!!! For the price... I couldn't believe it. My friend asked for an additional side of spicy mayo to-go, the staff told us that would cost $1, that's fine, but we were lucky to get a free one from our kind hostess. But when we got home... I kid you not, there was a TEASPOON of spicy mayo! Staff seemed a bit stressed, which is understandable because they're brand new. Hoping they work through these kinks and improve a bit before I even consider returning.

Yelp
A new sushi bar with a Speak Easy vibe! Although it's not in the photo, the tempura plate was so delicious I wanted to order it twice. The batter was really thin and all the vegetables were fresh, and the calamari and shrimp were much better than at any other sushi bar! The truffle salmon roll was really interesting, the blend of vinegar and truffle flavors was so unique. The crispy rice was unique too; I wonder how it would have been if the rice had been fried thinner. It was really big, so it was very satisfying for the price! The best thing was the flaming hotate, with the soft mayo and scallop melting in my mouth! I would order this again when I go back. I liked it so much, I've already been there twice and I think I'll become a regular customer! It was a huge success!

Yelp
Last weekend, my friends and I visited Miso & Nori. We started with the chef's selection of signature rolls, "truffle salmon" and "flaming hotate." Each piece was beautifully presented, with just the right amount of rice beneath expertly sliced sushi. The combination of various flavors and textures was perfectly balanced. I just wanted to share with you how lovely the restaurant was! The ambiance was fantastic, and the decor was simple, yet elegant. It really added to our dining experience. We are already planning our next visit.

Amazing sushi with a fancy vibe. Each roll is like a food masterpiece, full of fresh ingredients. The place feels fancy, perfect for special nights out. They really take care of you and the place looks classy. If you love sushi and a nice atmosphere, this place is a must-try!
