Misokatsu Yabaton

My favourite meal in Nagoya. The flavours are straight up amazing, and I thought it was worth the lineup. Go early; I lined up for about 45 minutes. If you get there by peak hour, you might be looking at 1.5h+ wait.

Be prepared to wait in line at every location. Went to this one saw a long line and popped by another one close by with an even longer line. Tried to get in to the restaurant 3 days in a row and it was not worth the wait. Personally I’m not a fan of miso or pork katsu but if I was I would give it an average score. The barriers provided were a little dirty and greasy. For some reason my tea was filled less than half way no ice and my so was full and had ice. Food was decent and place was filled with locals but would not wait in that line again.

I came during dinner time and there was a long queue, but as I am eating alone, I waited only for 5-10mins. Staff took my order as I was waiting in line and there wasn’t much waiting for the food once I am seated. Ordered the mixed miso/soy sauce tonkatsu and loved the soy sauce one more than the miso. Overall, although it was a little greasy, but the juicy pork and cabbage makes it bearable. Miso soup wasn’t too salty.

The place is quite famous for its miso-katsu, had to wait inline for around 15 min, but it was worth it. The fried pork with a thick crispy outer layer was very delicious, the miso sauce topping was also fine, but it was sweeter than expected - a must do in Nagoya

I seldom visit a restaurant twice when I travelled. But this restaurant made an exception. I was really amazed by the miso tonkatsu!! The pork was very juicy and tender. The proportion of the fat and meat is just right and the fat gave a really aromatic taste. It’s my first time having tonkatsu with miso sauce and I didn’t think I’d like it so much. The breadcrumb layer was made so well that the crisp texture of the last tonkatsu piece was maintained. I dined in and ordered the rib loin tonkatsu set for the first time. Since the first experience was so good, I craved for it again the next day. For the second time, I ordered takeaway with the loin tonkatsu set. Even with takeaway, the flavours and texture were maintained. I wasn’t a tonkatsu fan before but this miso tonkatsu really turned me into one!

My Japanese friend who accompanied us told us that this is one of the must-try foods in Nagoya. We came here for dinner, and there was already a line of people. Japanese people are patient. We lined up, and a staff member gave us the menu to look at. We ordered their Normal set, which includes a pork cutlet, miso soup, pickled lotus roots, unlimited water/tea, and unlimited rice for 1310 yen. Our orders were taken in advance, and when it was our turn in line, we were asked if we were okay sitting at the counter since there were no available tables. We were fine with it, so we sat at the counter. The sauce for the pork cutlet was poured by the staff in front of us, which added a bit of showmanship. The food was great, one of the best pork cutlets I've tried. I even managed to finish two cups of rice. After finishing our meal, we took our order paper to the counter outside to pay using their automatic machine. Overall, the food was great. If you are a tourist in Nagoya, this restaurant is a must-try.

We got there just before 12pm lunch time, there was a queue forming so we ended up waiting 10 to 15 mins. Like many other places you place your order whilst you're queuing. The whole experience was good, nice and friendly staff. At first I thought the food would be quite rich but it was just right. I had the bowl and my partner had the fillet. Mine was nice but the fillet was quite tender and it melted in your mouth!

The sauce is great! The portion is pretty generous for No.1 top seller and thank goodness they service extra rice at now charge so I can finish my meal. Service was superb. Order will be taken whole you in the queue and food will arrange on your table once you settle down on the table :)
