"What was once Cool Moon Ice Cream is now Miss Oz offering flavors that range from fresh banana to the elegant summer rose. But beyond the kid-friendly options like birthday cake, Cool Moon may be one of the best spots for sorbet in town, velvety with not an ice crystal in sight. This shop seldom has a long line, with large windows that look out onto Jamison Square‘s fountain — the ideal spot to sit with a cone." - Michelle Lopez, Janey Wong

"Cool Moon Ice Cream has been quietly and consistently scooping fun and inventive flavors of ice cream and sorbet for more than a decade, making it one of the oldest ice cream shops in Northwest Portland. Perched on the edge of the splash pad waterworks at Jameson Park that draws the neighborhood’s youngest residents, it could potentially have survived the years by the sheer fact that kids love ice cream. But with flavors like kulfi rose and Thai iced tea, this ice cream shop would thrive on any corner in Portland." - Maya MacEvoy, Thom Hilton

"This brightly painted ice cream shop in the Pearl District makes their ice cream in small batches, but that doesn’t mean the options are limited. Usually more than a dozen flavors are available at a given time, with about 200 flavors on rotation. The smooth and creamy ice creams make for excellent milkshakes, with the option to mix-and-match three flavors. When available, combining Belgian chocolate with coffee crackle in a milkshake is a local favorite." - Maya MacEvoy

Yelp
I found this spot down the street from where we were housesitting and it was a great find! My husband and I shared: - Croffle Pop with Ice Cream and Brown Cheese - Thai Iced Tea and Birthday Ice Cream The ice cream was very good, but the Croffle Pop was my favorite. The brown cheese (I believe she said it was Norwegian) was so good and such a unique addition to the dish. Parking in this area sucks. We walked there, but I believe you'll only find paid street parking. This little gem is 100% worth checking out while in Portland.

Yelp
Very solid dessert spot! I think compared to the other options in the area- this place does a great job elevating their ice cream flavors. Inside seating was very cute, clean, and small. I wish they were more transparent with the croffle special as we asked how much it was and they wouldn't tell us until they rung it up. The matcha flavor was great and the actual croffle was somewhat tough. I'd stick with the ice cream flavors versus adding anything to it.

Yelp
Great for kids & adults! All the classic fan favorites with some fun twists - kulfi, coffee crunch, matcha are solid choices! My personal fav is an affogato with matcha...delish! Friendly staff, good coffee, great ice cream & across the way from a small park with a water feature. If parking were easier around it this would be a 5 star.

Yelp
The store was fairly busy and I sampled one ice cream flavor (coffee) before ordering the tiramisu cream latte. The sample spoon seemed dirty and caught me off guard. The latte was fine; decent coffee flavor and very sweet.

Chelsea G.

Yelp
Miss Oz takes pride in their made in-house ice cream with natural ingredients. I. PARKING City street parking II. SERVICE Samples are offered here before buying your choice of ice cream. They also offer other desserts, including coffee and cookies. I liked that they had a self-serve water station available. They're dog friendly, allowing furry friends inside the cafe. III. QUALITY Everything is made within the shop so I'd say that increases the quality, versus buying pre-packaged ice cream you could simply get at a grocery store. IV. CAPACITY Fair amount of seating available for a weekday evening. Show them some love!

Yelp
Came here for the first time Monday evening and it was SO SO TASTY. We had a mini scoop of horchata cookie with the banana cream croft with fudge drizzle & a Marionberry and strawberry single scoop in a cone. You guys, get the CROFFLE fresh baked, fluffy waffles with light sweet cream - you can't go wrong ! The staff was super helpful and made very helpful suggestions. I also tried the Thai tea ice cream and I'll be back to have more The atmosphere is retro, decor is fun, music was oldies and honestly when you walk in it smells heavenly. Definitely recommend. FYI: No cash & just to manage the expectations - this isn't "Sav-on" "Rite-Aid" ice cream pricing. Our order is as around $20 (with tip) so be prepared. I didn't mind that though for the novelty of the croffle and the tastiness of the scoops.

Yelp
Order: single scoop icecream Pros: n/a Cons: So I thought I was going to like the ice-cream after tasting and it and unfortunately I didnt. They are super expensive for the amount of icecream you get. I got a tiny ball for $5.75 lol. I get more icecream at Ben and Jerry's down the street than I do here. Unfortunately they were closed so I decided to try here. The icecream is just okay. Also, there was a group of white individuals who were handed their cones and cups of icecream before they paid. I, who was right behind them, had to pay for my ice-cream before it was even scooped. The girl behind the counter literally walked me to the register asked me what I wanted them went back and scooped. This was not the case for the group of white individuals who were in front of me. Im not sure what that was about but It did leave a poor taste in my mouth.

Yelp
Wednesday 9/20/2023 I got a 2 scoop cup of cookies n cream ice cream for 8$. The cookies n cream ice cream was very good but 8$ for just 2 scoops is pretty expensive especially when the scoops were smaller than I expected. I would definitely recommend this ice cream spot and be open to returning.

Mia H.

Yelp
Ever since discovering this spot, it has been a go-to! Always reliable and has a great selection of safe, but different options than other ice cream shops, and I keep coming back to try more! (Saw some pictures of a croffle on Yelp, and I'll be sure to try it next!)

Erin B.

Yelp
Liked the hyperlocal ingredients. Good long hours and friendly staff. Would have preferred some more toppings; they only had fudge and sprinkles: the ice cream was solid and there were a good amount of flavors. I would go again if in the area. It's nice that it was right next to the park.

Winnie L.

Yelp
Pro-tip: they let you sample flavors and you can split scoops to have more than one flavor but you have to pay a dollar. Highlights: They have some pretty unique flavors, and I really liked all the ones that we sampled. We ended up getting the cherry almond chip and the summer Rose because they stood out the most. I would definitely like to come back to try more flavors and see what flavor is rotating as well. The workers are also very friendly. Lowlights: I'm not sure when places started charging a dollar to split a scoop of ice cream when it's essentially still one scoop but I'm not a fan. It's a bit pricey at $5.50 for a single scoop.

Sara N.

Yelp
Came here for ice cream and maybe this place is known more for their other dessert but we got the matcha and Thai ice team ice cream. The flavors weren't too overwhelming, not sure if we tried the right thing. It's a cute spot in pearl district and the staff were friendly.

Yelp
The Ultimate Coffee Stop--Plus a Bonus Croffle! Stopped by Ice Cream & Coffee for a caffeine fix and wasn't disappointed! The coffee was superb, rich and just the right side of bold--exactly what you need to shake off the cobwebs. While I didn't get to try the Brunost croffle, it was a feast for the eyes and nose, making everyone's day a bit brighter with each flaky, cheesy bite. And Zoe? If you could bottle her energy, it might just power a small city. Her enthusiasm for each order was absolutely contagious, making the whole experience a delight. Definitely a five-star spot. Go for the coffee, stay for the croffle, and let Zoe brighten your day! Rating: (Who needs anything else when you've got all this goodness in one place?)

Kristin P.

Yelp
This place hit the spot. The ice cream was amazing, the croffle was delightful, and then staff was very kind. I highly recommend trying this spot for all ice cream fans.

A.c. S.

Yelp
Got the birthday cake flavored and Oreo flavored two scoop and they were both sub par, especially given it was $10 for two scoops of ice cream in a cup! Service fine, ambiance neat, ice cream not anything near worth the prices, get real.

David T.

Yelp
Cool little spot we came across as we had just finished up at one of the bars up the street. Located in the Pearl District, it's tucked away between restaurants, bars, and apartments. Cool Moon offers a decent variety of flavors and has seating indoors. The servers were friendly and offered samples to help with our indecisive nature. Will want to try their coffee next time since we showed up at night.

Sherry B.

Yelp
I loved the ice cream flavors they offer! There are many non-traditional choices and just flavors that I crave but usually can't find in combination in a single ice cream shop - such as coffee, lavender honey, matcha, etc. A huge plus is they let you choose two flavors for a single. It's perfect for someone like me who wants to have multiple flavors but can't quite finish a double scoop size :)

Ploy N.

Yelp
Super cozy spot downtown offering both classics and unique flavors. They also go an espresso bar. Thoroughly enjoyed our double scoop of Coffee Crackle and Belgian Chocolate. Both had a good consistency and sweetness! A great place for some quite time and sweet treats.

Olivia B.

Yelp
GREAT! i got the homemade banana ice cream... she hand peeled every banana herself and the only other ingredient was cream. SO GOOD!!!!!! and she was so sweet and happy

Diana S.

Yelp
Awesome customer service sweet && attentive would 100% recommend will be back for sure sweet girls that helped us make you want to come back for sure ! Ice cream was so creamy and delicious

Yelp
I hate to leave bad review, but I had very BAD experience at Cool Moon ice cream. We came here on a weekend. There were only 2 staffs working that night, and the line was not moving at all for 15 minutes. It turned out that the staffs had to make pints out of the giant ice cream bucket (some intense arm workout) for online order too. I feel bad for the staffs. This place is small and crowded inside and the store didn't turn on AC that night. The owner should anticipate the rush hours on the weekend and hire more staffs. Or not accepting online orders if they are understaffed. There was a little kid waiting in line and his dad told him that they had to leave bc it took too long. The little kid was very upset.... I really hope this is just a one time thing or the owner will make some changes.

Yelp
This is such a cute little ice cream shop with really unique flavors. The lady who helped us was really nice and we tried flavors before we decided on Thai tea and matcha. First, a disclaimer. I'm sick and my stuffy nose has lost me a bit of taste. Though my taste buds are out of order, what I can report is the texture. Amazing, creamy, and like you-know-that-sticky-but-not-sticky texture. If you don't, all you have to know is that it's my favorite. So despite not tasting it much, I enjoyed just chewing. Though my friend who indeed has taste reported that they were both delicious and not too sweet. Once my taste returns to me, I will definitely be coming to taste the actual flavors.

Yelp
Fly me to the moon/ let me play among the stars. Eat some cool moon ice cream and be happy. Tried lots of samples and finally chose the salted caramel. It was out of this world. Honestly, this is a solid ice cream with melting features. In other words, it could have been a super hot day that I went, but the ice cream didn't retain its frozen state for long, so if I wasn't a fast eater, then you may have eaten ice cream soup. Nonetheless, the flavor was potent. The inside decor was consistent with the theme. Just a comment about the service and staff, which does not impact my score of this location. It could be that they were training, but I think there could be some improvements in terms of flow. For example, the sample spoons should be in front of the server, not behind so that it is more efficient to scoop a sample and give to a customer. It takes a lot of steps to turn around, grab a spoon, and then turn again to find the ice cream. In this way, all the comments about the line not moving and such on this page could be resolved. That being said, my score reflects just the ice cream and not the staff and service. In conclusion, if you are walking distance and want a fun dessert, you should probably come check it out.

Roshan R.

Yelp
Some unique ice creams flavors are available here. We tried the Kulfi ice cream and it was really good! A little less sweet for my taste. Small and unassuming spot. Friendly staff and patiently gave us samples of the different ice cream flavors.

Robert H.

Yelp
Unique ice cream flavors and overall not too sweet. Friendly service and reasonable prices.

Mike L.

Yelp
We ordered Ginger Cookie, Coffee Crackle, Marcona Almond, Banana. The Ginger Cookie had good hits of ginger and chewy bits of cookies. The Coffee Crackle tasted like fresh espresso. The banana tasted like fresh bananas. The almond was probably my least favorite. It was a bit more salty than I would have like and it sort of had a "old nut" taste. You can't always win and all the other flavors made up for the short coming of the almond flavor.

Kilee M.

Yelp
Ordered a couple of pints via DoorDash from this place and I was delightfully surprised with how high quality and delicious the ice cream is. Not too heavy and not too light. You can literally taste the quality of the cream and ingredients, and it's so good. I got cups of cookies and cream and mint chocolate chip and my partner got a pint of their Thai tea ice cream. I'm tempted to go in and buy pints because it's hard to find a place that serves Thai tea ice cream and that uses really fresh ingredients in general. I'd choose this place over Salt n Straw any day.

Linda H.

Yelp
Best thai iced tea flavored ice cream ever! I come here just for that. On our last visit, the girl that scooped our ice cream did not do a good job! Our ice cream fell off the cone with a LICK! It happened to my friend right after we left the establishment and he was able to catch his before it hit the ground. Mine happened as we were walking in the park across the street and I was able to stop mine when it started to lift. Scary moments for both of us! First time having this issue after numerous visits so I'll let it slide but just a warning for everyone else!

Diana H.

Yelp
Stopped by on my daughter's birthday for some ice cream after dinner and a stroll at the art walk. Sat in the park and enjoyed the evening. My marionberry cone was amazing! The daughter had an Earl Grey shake but noted that there could have been more steep in the tea flavor to the ice cream as it was very mild. Hubby had the salty caramel and said the same - it was very mildly flavored. Not mine! Very berry! So, 4 stars! Go for the berries!

Yelp
I came here on September 16th around 6:30pm. As I walked in, there was a line of about 6 to 7 people. I was happy to see that they were busy, especially since it was Friday night. However, a white male in front of me got frustrated at one of the associates because they didn't have cherry vanilla ice cream. He was mentioning that he waited in a line only to find out that they don't have cherry vanilla icecream. He said to the associate, "Let's talk about what just happened here." It made me feel really bad for the associate. The other associate overheard and stepped in. Told the customer that they didn't have the flavor of icecream and that there was a line. The associate told this customer to chill out, and it was a reasonable request from my perspective. After the customer was told to chill out he mentioned, "I know the owner....". It unfortunately was a situation where the customer felt very entitled to get what he wanted and an excuse to be rude to the associates. I think the associates handled this extremely well. I'm glad they stood up for themselves. That is not treatment they deserve.

Trinh A.

Yelp
Love the Thai Tea ice cream here! You can really taste the Thai Tea flavor without it being overwhelming. The consistency is good and I would love to go back to try their other unique flavors. I love how it's right across the street from Jamison Square which is a perfect place to sit and enjoy!

Alex E.

Yelp
Want to meet an amazing owner who oozes happiness? Want to try cheese on ice cream and love it? This needs to be your next stop. Wonderful food and ambiance with some awesome dog watching via the park across the street. Will definitely return.

Jayden P.

Yelp
so delicious! i had Mocha latte and Macha Croffle Pop people are nice, interior is cute, warm and cozy! you can see Jamison Park outside the window. 10/10!

Fernanda H.

Yelp
This is my favorite ice cream spot in Portland. Ice cream is freshly made and real ingredients. This place has my most favorite mint n chip. other reason why I like it is because it's not excessively sweet like salt n straw.

Ronnie W.

Yelp
The customer service from the older lady was very uninviting to me and my party once we pointed out that the croffle pop (from the display case) was stale. We also asked ahead of time if pulling the item from the case was different from the others, in which we were informed it wouldn't be a difference.. they were all made in the morning. It's 3:00pm at this point. She tried telling us all of the croffle pops were the same, after explaining to the employee that prepared my dessert he shouldn't have used the display one. He had great customer service btw! Someone in my party got one as well and were able to pull theirs apart without issue. Mine? Unable to pull it apart, let alone cut into it. She kept asking us to wait for her to finish with the customers behind us, which we did, but proceeded to ask did we want a refund when all we requested was a croffle that was EDIBLE! Will never refer friends or return.

Johnny N.

Yelp
Portland is home to a rich variety of ice cream shops and it's nice to have Cool Moon in the Pearl District with its unique flavors. Try the creamsicle milkshake hack with half vanilla and half orange sorbet, just amazing. This is the only place in town that offers Kulfi and Saigon cinnamon.

Devabhaktuni S.

Yelp
This is one my daughter's favorite chocolate ice creams. The summer rose is unique and tasty.

Jackie L.

Yelp
We discovered this place on our walk to the local park. Didn't expect much but this shop has a lot of standard as well as unique flavors. Very creamy bites. I loved the earl grey one I got. Tasted exactly like a London fog. Everything was well presented. Only gripe I had was that there was only one person working there. We waited about 10 minutes for the previous customers to get their order. Then it took a really long time to get samples. It took a while for the employee to write down all our orders and it took another couple minutes to get served up. But overall pretty pleased with the quality of their ice cream. I'm usually only loyal to Salt and Straw but now they're got a contender on their trail!

Marie R.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! Such a great selection of ice cream flavors and dessert. The coffee was great and we got a few pints to go. We chatted with the owner Millie for a while and she is so sweet! We'll definitely be back next time we're in Portland.

Norman J.

Yelp
Good ice cream but $4 scoop and awful customer service. Young male employee is always in a bad mood and it's just awful coming here. Only reason is that it's a block away from where I live. A few small changes and it'll be alright

Jennifer T.

Yelp
KULFI: Super good! I didn't know what it was before coming here so for those in the same boat it's a SE Asian (Indian) dessert with mango, cardamom, rose, saffron, and pistachios. It was super creamy and fragrant, but lighter than you'd expect. My favorite! OREGON HAZELNUT: This was such a good ice cream. Definitely creamy and more on the flavorful / impactful side of a hazelnut flavor. I got 1 scoop of each to share with a friend and we couldn't finish either of them because they were so decadent and creamy. Would love it if I could get a pint next time to savor on my own hehe. TLDR: love!

Lexi G.

Yelp
The ice cream was super delicious . I liked how the flavours don't have that taste of artificial flavouring

Elijah L.

Yelp
The atmosphere has a good vibe and the space is pretty open. The prices are a little higher than I think the portions are worth but everything tasted good and there was minimal wait on service. I'd place the rating between 3 and 4 if it were an option.

Laura Y.

Yelp
Had really high hopes for this place but my experience wasn't as great as a lot of reviews. It does seem like most reviewers give this place 5 starts as long as they liked the flavor they got. I'd say for my review it's a bit lower because of the pace of service and I thought my flavor choice was too one noted. Went during memorial day weekend after dinner but it was pretty late around 8ish so there was a pretty long line of about 20 people in front of us but they weren't having dine it so a person was at the front door with a table and then one person was behind the ice cream. This was a reallllly slow system and on a holiday weekend I think they should've known to have more people on hand or their faster people. The flavor I ordered was Kulfi because I wanted to try something new but I felt like it was an intense flavor and typically I like strong flavors but not this one. The quality was good so it may be worth trying another flavor instead like their thai tea but if there's a line or service seems overly slow then I'll walk away next time.

Angela B.

Yelp
Some unique flavors, but not as creamy as I would have liked. Good service though! $5 for a single scoop in a waffle cone. ==== As I walked around town to burn off what I ate, I had to get dessert. Makes no sense, but gotta try them all lol I enjoy ice cream when it's very creamy. This unfortunately didn't hit the mark for me, it was a bit on the dense side. The flavors were properly advertised without being too sweet, but nothing really packed a punch. They had some unique flavors, but wasn't too extensive of a selection to be overwhelming. I was able to try a couple flavors: Thai tea, Oregon strawberry, and a coconut spicy peanut one. You'd think the Thai tea one would be uber creamy, but alas. Maybe it needs more condensed milk? Peanut one had a nice balance of spice, creaminess from the coconut and flavor of the peanut. Different, but not for me. Oregon strawberry was good, not great. We settled on this one in a waffle cone. When eaten with the waffle cone, it was better. The service was friendly, the owner made conversation with us and is a one woman brigade!

Cindy G.

Yelp
Seasonal flavor: lemon and lavender. It tastes like summer. Lightly sweet, bright, and refreshing. It's what walking in a lavender field on a cool breezy day while sipping a refreshing lemonade would taste like. Try it before summer ends.

Madelynn F.

Yelp
Loved the Thai tea ice cream!!!! Soooooo delicious, I'm definitely coming back for that/ had it in a waffels cone and it was good! They give you samples and they staff was very helpful.

Zach M.

Yelp
The ice cream here is delicious. Also the chocolate milkshake with malt is great. My only issue is i got a small malt and it was handed off with the lid draped on top of a half inch of shake that I was told to "drink down" to get the lid down. I did but the ice cream still was streaming out of the sides of the cup all over my hands lol. I was pretty annoyed about that considering one double scoop cone and one small malt was over $20.

Rachel S.

Yelp
Some of the best local ice cream. Natural, fresh-tasting flavors with excellent textures. For an amazing affogato, get one with mint chip. Very affordable relative to quality.

Vicki L.

Yelp
I scream, you scream, gimme that ice cream! I got the single scoop of the strawberry flavor, and as you can see the portion is HUGE. The fruitiness is perfect for a hot summer day, and there are some chairs outside to enjoy your ice cream while indulging in the nice weather. Street parking available.
