Where the ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ Have Dined So Far This Season | Eater DC

"In episode 9, Nneka Ihim and Candiace Dillard Bassett talked shop about their recent group trip to Austin with a midday meetup at downtown Silver Spring’s Creole spot. Candiace, noting she’s a “tequila girl,” took the waiter’s rec for a Lady Voodoo — a Casamigos blood orange marg in a martini glass — along with the decadent mac and cheese. Nneka got the Nola Drop (Tito’s, orange liqueur, lemon juice, agave) and lamb chops." - Vinciane Ngomsi

Where to Stock Up on Beignets for Mardi Gras — Or All Year Long — In D.C. | Eater DC

"Downtown Silver Spring’s new Miss Toya’s doesn’t mess with a classic. No extras, no different sauces, just a perfectly crisp, deliciously powdered sweet dessert ($8) to cap off any of its Creole mains." - Abi Newhouse

I had the Cajun shrimp appetizer and the Bayou pasta. The shrimp was really good but the bread they served with it was hard as a brick. My friend says it was stale. That was really disappointing because the Cajun sauce was really good and would've been a nice dip for the bread. The Bayou pasta was ok. The chicken was really dry and overcooked. The dish also wasnt as creamy as I would've liked it. My friend had a seafood pasta that he really enjoyed. It was my first time eating at this location. I definitely would try another location before giving up on this restaurant. I just think I may have went on an off night with the wrong cooks in place.

We didn’t have reservations had to sit at the bar we waited a while before getting service ,we almost left glad we didn’t. was a nice time and we enjoyed mostly everything , Will be back again . Making reservations next time .

I wanted to live this place like so many who told me about it did. It was good. We went for brunch. I was a little disappointed that the food was not presented like the IG video for brunch. I felt like there was only a couple of wait staff for the entire restaurant. There were many servers to bring food out though. They seemed confused as to which table food belonged to though. For as long as it took done if the dishes to come out, it seemed unfair that there was a 2 hour limit. With an 11am reservation, we thought the live jazz would have been in the background. That started on our way out around 1pm, an hour before brunch was scheduled to end. I'll give it another try because I know some days are just off. The food was good, staff was pleasant, and we tried everything we wanted.

Google
Repeatedly served cold food that had been plated and left sitting, crabs were dry& old, same with the wings- very dry & chewy. Charged for bottomless Mimosa I was never served. My sister & I drove 3 hrs in search of a culinary experience that did not deliver. We left after being seated only 30minutes

Make reservations. Be on time. Enjoy your full 2 hours. Reasonable prices for all you can eat. It's not a buffet. You need to order each item. It gets crowded so you might have to wait for a bit to get your next order. Those snow crab legs, honey butter Pancakes, fried deviled eggs, and oysters were worth it though. Live jazz and people watching were a nice add on treat as well.

Google
JD was a great server and the drinks she made were also amazing! I was sad they did not have beignets but the gumbo the creole pasta the oysters the cheesecake and the peach cobbler all amazing! It was our first time but not our last!

Google
Great experience. This was our first time and Julian (our bartender) was very attentive please ask for him when you come. Roger the manager came around multiple times to ensure everything was to our standard and even told us about upcoming events and specials. The customer service was good , the bottomless drinks were out of this world. just make sure you order all your first round of food for the bottomless at together. The starters are shareable and no need to order your own unless you want to.

Let’s start from the top me and my family came in on Saturday from PA and did not have a reservation. We walked in and was greeted by the host. We were able to get a table of five and we were seated quickly from there. Our server shortly came over and we ordered some drink and starters. I ordered the peach please and it took a little bit longer than expected to come out but nothing too crazy. It was okay but I’d love to try their other drinks they looked really good! We did have to wave our waiter down to get some straws for our table after the water came. After we were done eating our starters. We had to wave the waiter down again to order our entrees. It was a little busy so we tried to be understanding, but there was a little lack of attentiveness. They bring out my sides like 5 minute before my entree so I wasn’t too happy about that because once my entree got to me the sides were on the colder side. Nonetheless, when our food came, my Mom In law said her spinach was cold however, given the little wait, she was fine with it. But everything else was amazing!!! Great location, parking garage nearby. The flavors were on point and we were hooked from there. In conclusion, there’s little things that they need to work on nothing major just some coordination and attentiveness and rapport with customers, but the food totally makes it worth it and we will definitely be back hope to get 5 stars next time ☺️.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of eating at Miss Toya's Creole House last night. The food was phenomenal, the service was with true kindness. Azirah S made our experience impeccable. We had 2 surrounding tables that even the patrons were friendly providing recommendations. Pictured: Loaded Creole Pasta, bread pudding & banana cheesecake. We would recommend the first two. The cheesecake needed to have the banana blended into the cheesecake as it was only a topping.

Yelp
Dear Miss Toya's Team, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for making my daughter's 11th birthday celebration truly beautiful. A special thank you to Melissa for ensuring every detail of her birthday experience was amazing, from the lovely table decorations to offering to go to Whole Foods to purchase a cake. She made my princess feel incredibly special and took a load off my shoulders. Additionally, a big shout-out to our server, Telphia. He was fantastic, serving our girls with style and kid-friendly mocktails, and helping them customize their orders to their liking. Thank you for creating such a memorable and delightful experience for us. Warm regards Lydia Williams

Yelp
Heard about this place from the Housewives of Potomac episode. My wife said she would like to try it so I immediately made a Mothers Day brunch reservation. WARNING - THEY ONLY HOLD YOUR SEATS FOR 15 MUNUTES. The hostesses were pleasant and we were seated in less than 5 minutes. We were greeted immediately by our server who was great. The food was FREAKIN DELISH. We had the crab deviled eggs, bbcue shrimp, shrimp n grits and fish n grits. Everything was fantastic. The atmosphere was cool and the music was a vibe but perhaps thats due to it being Mothers Day. We'll be back.

Yelp
Wow! So many customer service touch points! I called ahead to make a reservation for my family. When making the reservation, I was asked if we were celebrating a special occasion, I said yes we were celebrating my husband's birthday. We arrived a bit early and decided to have a drink at the bar. We were served by EJ. What a delightful bartender! He asked us what we were drinking, made drink recommendations and also made detailed food recommendations. He was super friendly and awesome. And his attentiveness didn't end there. Later, after we had left the bar, he came over to our table to check on us and make sure we were enjoying our dinner. Talk about great customer service! When we arrived to our table, we were surprised to find the cutest happy birthday table sign along with a handwritten birthday card from the restaurant. What a nice and unexpected touch! It's those small little touches that really make a difference during a dining experience and they really wowed us. All of EJ's food recommendations were spot on. My husband ordered the fried snapper, I had the gumbo with cornbread and we also ordered the spinach dip with crab and a side of Mac and cheese. Everything was so delicious and so filling! The only downside was someone ordered a side of broccoli and it was salty - but that was the only hiccup of our order. Our waiter was also great and the manager (a pleasant lady - didn't catch her name) came over at least twice to make sure we're enjoying ourselves. We had an excellent experience at Toya's from beginning to end. From the customer service to the food, it made for a wonderful birthday celebration! Thank you Toya's and keep up the great work :)

Yelp
I don't think I would go back for the specialty drinks. I haven't been impressed with their special cocktails this far, but the food is solid, the staff is solid. The music is low-key and I think we'd prefer more upbeat music but good music nonetheless. I would go back but would order a standard drink rather than a speciality.

Yelp
I walked into the restaurant and stood at the host desk for 6 minutes before someone came over. There were about 5 employees standing at the bar a couple of feet away and none of them greeted me. At 1 point an employee walked to the host desk to charge her phone but she didn't look my way nor did she speak. Finally a hostess came over to seat me. I waited 10 minutes for my waiter to come to the table. I waited 16-18 minutes for a mocktail after ordering it. I ordered a pineapple punch mocktail, side Caesar salad, and salmon with broccolini and mac&cheese. The salad was decent. The salmon was overcooked. The Mac& cheese was good. My favorite part of the meal was the broccolini. Due to the service, I won't be back.

Yelp
This was Our first time came over for happy hour. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. It gives a chill and contemporary vibe. Service was very friendly, from front check in to our waitress was all very attentive , the only advice is for the boy who brought out our food, he might want to pay a little more attention to what's on the table in the future before put dishes down, so to avoid putting the plate on top of the silverware. We order pretty much everything from the happy hour menu , and truly enjoyed the flavor of all the dishes that. The dishes were very flavorful and not over fried, like the chicken sandwich slider, fried green tomatoes, and bayou rolls. And the beans +rice was so tasty you can tell the beans cooked with good meat. Good price on cocktails during happy hour and you can tell them to put syrup on the side to modify your drink. The one star deduction was due to cleanliness. We changed 2 locations for seating and there are apparent food droppings at both locations on the seats and on the tables, don't even mention the crumbs dropped on the floor, clearly it was not clean at all. Given the time of the day we went when they were not busy at all during that time, not sure why no one went around to clean up the place bit. Will give it another try and hope to see some improvement. Do recommend by @WineDinenVacay

Yelp
I came here on a nice Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar. There was plenty of table seating but the bar only have one 1-2 spots available. I LOVED the yellow bar chairs. They only have happy hour M-F so I opted for the blueberry mule mocktail. It was yummy. I ordered the catfish with fried rice and broccolini. The fried rice had sooooooo much flavor! I started with that opposed to the fish. The sauce that came with my fried fish was AMAZING!!!!!! That really added a nice kick of flavor. I had a beignet and it was good. I can appreciate that they keep it simple because that keeps it true to the NOLA way (not a fan of a beignet with filling). The bar service was good considering that Eugenie (i think hat was his name) was very busy making drinks. I would definitely come back to Miss Toyas and continue supporting this black owned business.

Yelp
I visited Miss Toyas due to a family members request. Upon first impressions it looks like a spot for young hip people who want a cute space to dine in for brunch to take pics for the gram. However, it was basically empty when we arrived at 6pm on a Thursday. For starters we opted for the voodoo shrimp and the chicken wings. Although I didn't partake in the shrimp (as I don't eat shellfish) my family member said that it tasted solely of hot sauce. As far as the chicken wings they were dry and luke warm at best. Therefore causing us to send the item back. For my main I opted for the catfish and grits. It initially comes with a crawfish sauce, however our waiter said that we could swap it out for another of their cream based sauces. A young gentleman brings us our entrees and I ask him not once but twice if the side sauce has shellfish in it and he says no. I dip my utensil in the sauce to taste it and to my surprise it tastes fishy. When our server comes by to check in on us I ask her is this the right sauce and she says no it has shellfish in it. She's apologetic and swaps it out for the correct sauce. Another hiccup of the night was when my mother found a hair in her entree immediately after it's brought to her. We quickly told the young gentleman about this issue and he says that he'll replace the item with a new one. Whew! Now that the hiccups of the day are done let's get to the taste. The food was good standard "soul food" in my opinion, however it was very seasoned. Dare I say, that it was possibly over seasoned (and I'm someone who wants all the seasoning). Long story short I doubt that I'll be back as there were too many hiccups for my liking for this first and only visit.

Yelp
We visited for the first time yesterday after I read several reviews, and had friends share feedback as well. Immediately, I noticed a great vibe at this location. The restaurant was clean, well lit, decorated nicely and definitely Instagram worthy. I saw reviews about slow service. I'd say our food came out fairly quickly, however, drink orders took a long time. Which was strange given that there were only 2 other tables being served during our visit. We had a 5 PM reservation, arrived and were seated at 4:30 PM. We had a change in servers during our two hour visit as well. The first server said he put my drink order in, the second server mentioned that never happened and proceeded to put my drink order in; my drink arrived shortly after. My friend also noticed they had no paper towel in the men's bathroom. Small adjustments need to be made given that we went during a fairly slow time on a Monday. Overall, we enjoyed our food, the drinks were strong, the vibes are great, so we would definitely give them another try. A nice touch was receiving a call from the restaurant (Sam) the following day, asking me how my experience was. I shared exactly what I wrote in this review and she appeared thankful for the feedback.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my brunch here. Pros: The staff were very hospitable, from the host to our server and it was very much appreciated. The restaurant has a lively, fun feel to it. The mixers provided for the mimosas were good and there were a lot of options. The egg roll and chicken wing appetizers were very good. I would order them again in a heart beat. Another person had the French Toast and they really liked it. I don't eat oysters, but they looked good. Cons: The brunch is supposed to be $70, but the way they break the bill down makes it seem like you're paying more. Once I calculated it, it was off by about $6 or so...but we didn't make a fuss about it. (Now if everyone's bill is off by a few bucks everytime, they are pocketing a pretty penny.) Also, the mimosa set up is good except they don't provide a way to keep the champagne/wine cold. Maybe it's their way of encouraging quick drink and eating...I don't know. The fish and grits was just ok. The grits were great, but the fish wasn't that flavorful. It could have definitely used more/better seasoning. I would not order that dish again. One of my friends is vegetarian and there weren't a lot of options for them. Overall: This was a great experience and I would definitely go back. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to try their dinner menu.

Yelp
The food was delicious, big portions and very filling! I went on a Sunday brunch day. It wasn't too busy, however, the service was extremely slow for various requested items and I had to ask for multiple things repeatedly. However, the manager and the servers were all extremely nice and personable. I got the catfish and grits. The grits were delicious, thick and creamy! The sauce wasn't salty, it has the perfect balance to it. The fish was also really good (I asked for it crispy...cause that's how I like it haha). Overall the food was a solid choice!

Yelp
Finally made it to Miss Toya's & it did not disappoint. My friend and I came here on a recent Saturday evening for dinner. I was able to make a reservation online and surprisingly there were ample time frames. Our reservation was for 715 but we were seated around 730 because the tables had to be cleaned, no problem. The restaurant is vibrant and upbeat with R&B music in the background. I checked out the menu prior and there were countless options I wanted to try but number 1 was the charbroiled oysters. My gf and I both ordered our own and they came out fairly quick. They were a bit gritty but the lemon butter made up for it. Our drink selection consisted of the limited time pear cocktail and my friend ordered the Louisiana Tea. Our waitress was Meagan J. & she was so nice, down to earth, and checked on us many times even on this busy Saturday evening. While waiting for our main course, the manager on duty, Ms. Melissa stopped by and I complimented her on how great the pear cocktail tasted and recommend they make it permanent on the menu. She was friendly as well. For our dinner, I ended up ordering the Pan Seared Salmon with a side of seafood fried rice and macaroni. I been eating salads all week so I had to splurge on the carbs lol. My friend ordered the Fried Pork chops with a side of asparagus and macaroni. When our food came out, our eyes grew with excitement & the portions were larger then we expected. We literally ate about 5 bites and were full. My salmon was so flavorful & the seafood fried rice was a little too salty, but I was happy to take home leftovers. Because my gf's birthday was the week prior, the waitress brought out a delicious dessert of beignets & ice cream with sprinkles. The beignets were perfectly warm and didn't have a ton of powder sugar on it to get yourself messy. I am totally coming back to try a few other items I saw passing by while dining, but it is a must (for everyone) to make room for that dessert :)

Yelp
Making a reservation was easy. The hostess was nice. I sat at the bar until my friend showed up. The bar is a nice size. The menu is kind of on the pricey side but understandable because it's mainly seafood. Hostess sat us at a table by the bar that was extremely close to the next table. I did not like that at all. I had the loaded gumbo. It was just ok. I wouldn't get it again. But I do like their menu selection so I would come back to try other things. The crab legs were over cooked. It was difficult to break the legs open. The drink I had was good for what it was. It was more syrup than fruit juice. Our waitress was extremely kind and personable. The tip I left was more so for her than the food. But I'm all about given chances, so I'll be back.

Yelp
I visited this gem yesterday for a quick bite and definitely would highly recommend. The amazing bartender Jamie was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. I am all about top tier service, okayy! The ambiance was a vibe with R&B jams flowing. I had the Rockefeller Oysters( must try !) with a Peach Please! Very refreshing. I made a promise I would be back for their happy hour. I don't intend to break that promise ;-)

Yelp
Miss Toya's restaurant is a Maryland restaurant with a Creole vibe. When you walk in, you're greeted by friendly staff who ask if you're dining or there for a pick up. The staff who served me were extremely nice and helpful. They recommend the best dishes. I went with the lamb chops and the pasta with crab legs. Both delicious were delicious!!! My only downside is the food is EXPENSIVE!!!
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
I've been meaning to come here since they opened a couple years ago. I love a good southern restaurant, especially one with brunch! The food was served in large portions, but even with the large portion it still felt very overpriced for what you're getting. I mistakenly got the blueberry mule thinking it was a cocktail but it was a mocktail, and paying $12 for a mocktail is bizarre. The cocktails were all priced in the $20 range, which is how much I spend on cocktails in Miami. This is silver spring lol. The food was tasty and I did enjoy it, but having such a large bill for a French toast platter kind of deters me from wanting to go back.

Yelp
The server was outstanding. I had the signature firs chicken Mac and cheese and collard greens. The chicken was succulent Mac and cheese was ok green good little too much potliquer. The hurricane drink I had was great. I would recommend to anyone this restaurant was great

Yelp
We had a reservation for early Friday night dinner. We were seated pretty quickly then waited...and waited...and waited. Finally I went to the front to tell her we'd been sitting there 15 minutes with no server coming by at all, no water, no drink order etc. She goes and finds a server who comes by and apologizes saying the server who covers that section isn't there so he'll help us instead. Once we had a server it was fine, he didn't do anything wrong but it's a management fail to seat someone somewhere there is no server assigned. Fortunately, we had a couple minutes left before happy hour was over so we got to order happy hour drinks. I had the hurricane, hubby had the strawberry hennessy. My drink was large, but really just OK flavor wise. The best hurricanes don't taste as strong as they are, this one definitely tasted strong. Hubby liked his drink more than mine, and honestly if I didn't hate anything whisky based I probably would have agreed. Even more fortunately, the food made up for the iffy management and just ok drinks. We started with the deviled eggs w/ crab and loved them. The deviled eggs had a slightly sweet filling, not super traditional but very tasty. Nice big chunks of lump crab meat on top. Pricy, but very good. For entrees, my husband got the seafood po-boy (blackened) and I got the jambalaya over fettucine. Both were fabulous. The po-boy had giant shrimp, good sized chunks of catfish, some veggies on a large roll. The fries that came with it were perfect. My pasta was delicious, great robust flavor, lots of delicious seafood, chicken, and sausage. I wasn't able to finish mine so am looking forward to leftovers. We would order any of these again. For dessert we split the vanilla bean bread pudding, which came with a vanilla ice cream. It was very good, of the dense variety vs. light and custardy, but very tasty. The portion size was definitely good for splitting. The vibe inside is cute and modern, some of the tables have swings which is kind of cool. I think if they could iron out the management kinks they could bump up to five stars, but I will probably get my drinks upstairs at Masa and skip the cocktails here.

Yelp
The food was delicious and was served piping hot. All of portions were with great grandiosity. The fried green tomatoes had great taste with light batter. Only improvement I would make is that I would make them sliced thicker. The creole herb chicken had delicious flavor and was very tender to cut. The rice and beans were seasoned well. The spinach could have a little more seasoning. The salmon was delicious as well and cooked to perfection. The honey cornbread was light and fluffy with great moisture. The honey was a great addition. The lamb chops were delicious and flavorful. The service is impeccable our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The hostess was very welcoming. Our reservation was ready as soon as we arrived. The ambiance was aesthetically pleasing and I loved the music choice. I would 100% recommend. I will be back soon.

Yelp
Cute space in a convenient location. Service was really good but the food is absolutely not worth the price. Sorry to say, I won't be back

Yelp
First let me acknowledge how incredibly helpful the staff was, particularly the hostess. We walked in on a bustling Sunday night with no reservation. Granted we took the swings table but we were able to make it work. We only waited about 15 minutes which I really appreciated. Our server was super nice and explained everything. She recommended the shrimp and grits for me which were amazing. The cornbread was scrumptious. My food was great. However overall, it was juts an okay experience. I would certainly go back and support but I will say it's not going to be my go to for when I go to the Fillmore for concerts. The proximity is great but it could also use some improvements as the red beans and rice and wings I tasted lacked a little bit in flavor. Overall, not bad. I encourage folks to try this one for themselves and report back with your opinion.

Yelp
I had such high hopes for this place being as though it's been the talk of the town lately. But I was so disappointed when we went this weekend. We called ahead to get on the waitlist and I'm so glad we did because the wait was an hour long. They sent us a text message once our table was ready and we had a 10 min grace period before we missed It. The ambiance of the restaurant was very cute and clean. The bar is pretty big and sits right in the center of the restaurant with lots of high top chairs. The tables were average size and kind of close together. Their bathroom was pretty clean though. I had to ask one of the employees for some paper towel, and at first she told me they didn't have anymore but then she went to check and actually brought in a roll. Now to the food I ordered the Spinach dip ($13) and my friend ordered the Calamari ($22). The dip was actually good. It was tasty and very cheesy. It comes with some of their homemade chips, which was actually good. But regular tortilla chips would have been fine w/ the dip. Their homemade chips are fried. As far as the calamari, It was salty. It came with a mayo based dip and a sweet & spicy dip. Lucky they had a half of lemon on the try and that helped cut the salt. My friend order the loaded pasta ($55) and I had their Shrimp & Catfish Po Boy. Let me start off by saying the sandwich looks nothing like what they had on the menu. It was all dry and only had two pieces of fried shrimp (the tail was still on). On my first and only bite, all I tasted was salt. It was so unbearable that I had to send It back. I don't know if It was just that batter or they needed to change the oil. But It was just too much. My friend said her pasta was okay, but pretty generic. She also had the cornbread, in which she said was basic as well. I'm not sure how the other items on the menu are but there was nothing that really stood out on the menu. It didn't make you feel like ooo I want this again or ooo I can only get this here. Everything was basic and unfortunately we gave them a score of 4/10.

Yelp
I'll say that Miss Toya's Creole House definately has it going on. We stopped by here for an easy breezy, and we were very happy with everything - from the food to the service, ambiance, and general vibe of this restaurant. We both went with the brunch special, which includes an appetizer, entree, and bottomless mimosas for about $70. For the bottomless brunch carafe, I was quite surprised (in a good way) that we EACH received our own carafe. For my meal, I went with an order of creole shrimp (I think that's what it was called) and the fish n grits. OMG. The portion sizes are so HUGE. The prices might be a little up there, BUT you will receive a HUGE portion of food. Even if you are in starvation mode, you will have enough food for leftovers. For instance, I visited the restaurant a couple of hours after running 10 miles, and I was pretty stuffed. *Maybe the bottomless mimosas helped out with that. ;) * To be perfectly honest, I did not have any issues with the food because the fish was beautifully seasoned and the grits actually tasted like something. Our bartenders were absolutely amazing and kept us laughing and entertained throughout our meal. I cannot wait to visit again and try other things over of the restaurant's Creole-/New Orleans-inspired menu. Tip: Since this place is pretty popular, I highly recommend making reservations if you have a group of more than two folks and want to sit at a table instead of the bar.

Yelp
This particular dining experience was average overall, but I would come back to try some different menu items! GLOWS: -The staff was very friendly and helpful in getting us seated, especially without a reservation. This was very much a highlight! -The decor and aesthetic is very nice. The vibes are fancy enough for a date night/celebration, and it's also relaxed enough for a casual drop in. -The honey cornbread was pretty good---although I felt it could do with less actual honey. -The shrimp and grits was pretty tasty. -Having grilled wings on the menu is always a plus! Not everything needs to be fried. GROWS: -The grilled wings were too charred in my opinion. It mostly had the flavor of a burning grill. I picked around and did not send them back. I didn't care too much for the red beans and rice. The flavor was lacking overall.

Yelp
The service here is phenomenal, each time I've visited the service has been quick and the atmosphere is a nice vibe. I really liked the seafood omelette, it was packed with seafood and bursting with flavor.

Yelp
My friends and I decided to try this place after hearing so many good things about the food. We came on a Thursday evening so we were seated right away. The food and drinks definitely lived up to the hype! We ordered the egg rolls, deviled eggs, and spinach dip for appetizers. The egg rolls were juicy and cheesy and full of meat! For our entrees, we ordered the lamb chops and loaded gumbo. The portion sizes were huge and definitely enough to take home for a second meal. I was so surprised by the full cluster of crab legs in the gumbo and the 6 lamb chops they gave. I will definitely be returning!! 10/10!

Yelp
Loved it ! Loved it ! First time here and literally just stumbled upon on it while out n about it . Came fairly early around 1230. The place was empty but they had the best of the 90s music playing all through out . The place was clean and the decor was amazing (definitely enjoyed the swinging chairs ) . I ordered the bayou pasta and my friend got the shrimp po boy sandwich . I can't complain my pasta came out and every bite was amazing . My friend enjoyed his sandwich but would have preferred it on a different bread . The bread constantly kept crumbling as he took each bite . Not sure how I feel about the price . We came in at lunch time and paid dinner prices for 2 drinks and 2 entrees . The food was good tho . There was free garage parking which was a plus . Definitely would come back .

Yelp
I stopped by Miss Toya's one weeknight after Work to try their Happy Hour selection. We were greeted upon entering and decided to sit at the bar. It took forever for someone to greet us at the bar. Being who I am...I understand staff shortages. I am the most patient person ever so we finally flagged someone down to get our orders moving along. We ordered our delicious drinks and appetizers. I got the fried green tomatoes and one of the other appetizers actually never came. We decided to get dinner. I got catfish and grits my friend got salmon with macaroni and cheese and broccolini. The food was absolutely delicious. Overall the happy hour deals are enough to bring me back in the door.

Yelp
Ok so my pics are very blurry but I still wanted to post. Came here for my birthday and it was a great decision. Drinks strong!!!! Portion sizes crazy and ambiance was cute. We made reservations but were able to push them back without a problem. Was nervous that because we were coming about a hour before closing that we our food would be well you know how restaurants do.. that was the complete opposite!! Everything was fresh and hot. Nothing was rushed and I enjoyed every bite. We had the shrimp n grits, the jambalaya with pasta and the salmon with sauté spinach and Mac n cheese. I literally can't wait to come back and try something else from this restaurant.

Yelp
I have heard a lot of things about Miss Toya's and I wanted to try it for myself. I visited during the week so it was not busy at all. The restaurant is decorated beautifully. Both the hostess and my server were friendly. We ordered a few different items since it was our first time there. Everything was amazing. The seasoning and flavor was prefect. I would definitely recommend this spot to others if you're in the area. They did say they get busy on Fridays and the weekends but if you're in the area on a weekday check them out.

Yelp
Just ok. Stopped by for happy hour. Sat at the bar. Customer service: Since I sat at the bar, the bartender took care of my food and drinks. I forget the bartender's name, but she was nice -- made conversation, checked in frequently. Food: Perhaps it was what I ordered, but the food was subpar. The deviled eggs were tasty, but the lack of attention to detail was noticeable. The whites of the eggs were split (see photo), which led to the filling to spill. That's gotta be my OCD talking because I didn't like that. Moving on... The wings had a great sauce on them, but too salty. I couldn't finish them. Overall, Miss Toya's was just ok. I wouldn't initiate a visit, but if invited, I'd give it another try.

Yelp
Did the Lamb Chops with my family. Awesome service for a group of 12+ to be honest. Awesome quiet music but vibing friendly. Gave out my lamb chops to everyone in my family that wanted. Nice setup.

Yelp
I met my old brunch duo (plus their baby) here for a good ol' brunch! This spot has been on my list for years, and I finally got an opportunity to check it out! We had a relatively early brunch reservation and we got taken care of quickly! We do bottomless -- that's our thing. When we requested a round of mimosas, we just got whole carafes per person, forget by the glass... winning! Food was pretty tough to decide, but we got one appetizer and one entree with the brunch deal. I got the surf and turf egg rolls as my appetizer. Those were definitely a treat, and that sauce with them was so yummy! My main dish was the lamb chops and eggs, cooked medium... what a GREAT choice. The lamb chops were delicious, and the eggs were nice and fluffy! They also came with potatoes. So here's the one thing I didn't say that's worth mentioning -- they give you enough food for multiple servings. The entree plate was STACKED. Between that and the mimosas I was definitely in a good place, but whew, prepare yourself if you come through! The staff were friendly, attentive, and on the way out we took some really nice pics at the Miss Toya's backdrop. Give this place a shot for sure!

Yelp
I'm soooooooooooooo disappointed in this place. I had such high hopes and was crazy disappointed with tonight's dinner. We had reservations, arrived early and was told that we couldn't be seated until our reservation time. Ummmm OK...we'll wait 10 minutes. Mind you there were plenty open tables so not sure what the point was in making us wait...nevertheless when we were finally sat, we were escorted to a corner & sat at a small table for 2. Looking around still we were still confused because it wasn't even busy and to my surprise for a Friday-with all the rave I've been hearing about this place, I was expecting and limited reservations & expecting the place to be jumping! Which honestly that should've been out first red flag...but no relying on these yelp reviews I was like "no babe-trust me the food is going to be soo good! Everyone is talking about this place" Hahahaa! Joke was on me...& I'm going to have to take the L on planing tonight's date night! Anyhoo- the restaurant itself is cute. I'm so over the greenery walls and lights though lol! Like can we move on to something else. Hahahaaa! The music play list was ok and our server was so sweet! Now onto our food. For starters we had the Bayou Rolls...not a fan. I didn't like the sauce on them and I felt like they were missing something. For dinner I had the gumbo minus the sausage and my husband ordered the snapper with seafood fried rice and asparagus. Now- it broke our hearts to taste the snapper which had so much potential...crispy, meaty but just bland and flavorless. The sea food rice tasted like it was scooped from a pot that had burnt rice at the bottom and the broth- was in was just as bland. To say we were DISAPPOINTED is an under statement. I ordered the Gumbo. And I didn't even take 2 bites...just reminded me so much of the rice from my husbands plate just with more of the broth. Plus it looked like something that was just thrown together. Our drinks and the cornbread 10/10! Will definitely cross this off our restaurant list....i was so disappointed I didn't even want to talk to a manager or even try anything else...smh... oh well! Maybe it was a bad night...unfortunately I don't think I'll be giving this place another chance...despite what others may say...lol... fool me once...won't do it again! Happy Yelping!

Yelp
So far, I would rank Miss Toya's 3.6ish, which is why I rounded up. I've read the negative reviews about the quality of food and subpar service but I'm glad to report, I haven't had a bad experience since I've discovered this black owned establishment. Full disclosure, the three times that I've dined at Miss Toya's I sat at the bar, that said, bar service many times is much better because of the constant contact with the bartender. I enjoyed just about every meal that I've had at this Creole Cuisine restaurant. My crab topped deviled eggs, which happens to be my favorite appetizer, missed the mark. The texture was off and lacked flavor. The signature drinks are strong and tasty but pricey, so be aware. I was a little disappointed with the happy hour menu. They only offer "rail" cocktails for $10 so if I don't drink "rail" drinks normally, where's the deal? Exactly! I love that Miss Toya's is located in uber popular downtown Silver Spring, surrounded by shops (NIKE just opened) along with other bars and restaurants. Please come out and support Miss Toya's if you want good food and tasty drinks, just don't be on a budget because this ain't Applebee's..LOL!

Yelp
Nothing but good things to say from the moment we walked in until we left. My family took me there for my birthday and it was my first time so I had no idea what to expect. Everyone there was very pleasant, and our server was on point. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. The only bad part was we left our leftovers on the table. Hate when that happens. Now I definitely have to go back!

Yelp
It's always a magical experience coming here. I've been 3 times now and they have never let me down. If you're going to go I recommend making a reservation first, as there can be a bit of a wait. My only complaint is that they hold your credit card and charge $20/pp if you cancel (which luckily I haven't had to do). But as for the food they never let me down. I've loved everything I've ever tried, my go to staple is the gumbo

Yelp
We went to Miss Toya's yesterday evening for dinner. I honestly don't know if it's good enough for a return. Possibly happy hour bar seating. This was both my friend and I 1st time and we weren't ecstatic about the food we ordered. Our waitress , Jordan, definitely talked super fast and rushed us to get our orders in. The presentation and amount of food we received was a lot. However, the quality was not as homemade as we would like and it was very salty and greasy. We ordered appetizers 1st: seafood spinach dip and chips and charbroiled oysters. For entree: my plate was salmon and 2 sides (seafood Mac and creamed spinach with parm). My friend ordered salmon with creamed spinach and seafood fried rice. I will say our meals came out literally 5 mins after we placed order so we literally had to box our apps up because we didn't get even 10 mins to eat it lol. I wasn't in the mood for a cocktail this time but I'm assuming this may be better than the food. Because it's rare to get good food and good drinks at a restaurant. Maybe I'll come back for happy hour to see if other menu items are better.

Yelp
We worked up an appetite after spending the day at a museum. I declared I wanted some delicious food. My friend suggested Miss Toya's. We dropped in on a Friday around 3pm. I was eager to get a first hand experience. We were greeted with a smile and quickly ushered to a table. The restaurant was already lively. People were in there celebrating & the bar was moderately crowded. You know how it is when you're hungry...I wanted to order everything but managed to exercise some restraint. The Bayou Rolls, catfish & grits, and jambalaya did not disappoint!! The portions were hearty too. We also ordered drinks off the HH menu, that were also yummy. My first experience was fantastic! Looking forward to a return...

Yelp
I am in LOVE with this place! I honestly don't know where to begin it was so exceptional. We reserved a table for a birthday celebration and they did NOT disappoint. They sat us down upon walking in no wait necessary. While we did note this was a birthday celebration we had no idea they would make it special without asking. No not a birthday song, they decorated our table, personally hand wrote a note and had a custom sign on top of the table. While I cannot remember your waitress name I remember her customer service and it was awesome. She looks happy to be there, not stressed and overworked. She provided recommendations and explanations. Now I know I bragged on the vibes and service enough so let's discuss the taste! Every single item off the menu was delicious with its own flavor. One of the best macaroni and cheeses' in the area imo. The drinks were also made with lots of love, you can actually taste the liquor! I would recommend this spot for celebrations, birthdays or even anniversaries. Looking to support a black owned restaurant look no further. Add this to your list of places to visit asap!

Yelp
Oooo baby!!!!! Let me tell you about Miss Toyas!!! I don't know where to start but it was amazing. Amazing as in first bite and I wanted to cry. Lol. The food was amazing, well prepared, favorable portion, great presentation, fresh, and tasty. The cook(s) did an amazing job. My friend took me to Miss Toyas when I visited her and it did not disappoint. The decor was really nice and chic for the area. They have a bar area which was cute as well. There was a swing in case you want some IG approved photos. Lol. As you see in the photos, our food looked really good. It tasted just as good as it looked. The chicken was well seasoned and tender. The Mac and cheese had good cheese to pasta ratio as well. But if you don't like a lot of cheese I would say pass on it. I wouldn't feast on it in my opinion. The pasta was great. The chicken was grilled and moist. It wasn't dry and hard. The added crabmeat was a great addition as it was real crab meat and they didn't only put two pieces. It was full. We didn't finish, so we had leftovers that tasted just as good the next day. We also ordered cornbread to go and had it afterwards. It was really good. I highly recommend Miss Toya's. The service was really good.

Yelp
I was reluctant to try Miss Toya's after reading mixed reviews but decided why not give it a fair shot and peep the scene myself. Our reservation was at 3pm on a weekday afternoon and it wasn't even that crowded.... yet. The happy hour begins at 3pm and is throughout the entire restaurant but only includes drinks specials including the Hurricane cocktail which was strong. We started with the Deviled Eggs with Crab and Bayou Egg-rolls were delicious. The Loaded Creole Pasta and the Loaded Gumbo were spectacular and very well flavored with huge jumbo shrimp and a crab leg cluster on each dish. But not only was everything I tried on the menu great, the ambiance and service from NiNi was good. Overall, I was very pleased with my experience at Miss Toya's and so glad I didn't count them out.

Yelp
2 stars only because that Seafood Gumbo was DELICIOUS! But the drinks are overpriced & the liquor is cheap. The service wasn't great. Someone in my party reported hair in her side salad & the manager only compensated her $3.

Yelp
Save your money Chile. I wanted to like this place, but it was a HUGE miss. Presentation is all they have. First, food was underwhelming, cold, and lacked flavor. Our food came out with 15 mins in between each other which made for eating as a group awkward. The wings were slimy, tasteless, and needed to be cooked longer. They need a different sauce and seasoning. The Creole Herb Chicken also needed to be cooked longer. The meat was cold and the sauce once again lacked flavor. The cheese was just grease! Pretty gross. Honestly, the only thing that had taste was my side of sweet potato casserole. We all ate that off my plate. The bathroom was dirty, and I expect more when I have a $300 ticket for 4 people. Truly they need to go back to the drawing board. All things need to be worked on and just because it's black owned they doesn't excuse lack of excellence.

Yelp
Starting off with the service and environment, I went during lunch and was pretty quiet and empty. I waited maybe 5 min or more before anyone brought me water and a bit longer before the server (Maimuna) finally came over. She was very apologetic for the wait so that was appreciated. She was very nice. I let her know if my allergies and after she confirmed with the manger she recommended I try the bayou pasta. It did not disappoint. The pasta was very creamy and flavorful. I could've done without asking for extra cream sauce, it really wasn't necessary tbh. Overall, I'd try this spot again but due to my shellfish allergy, a few things I would've wanted to try couldn't be altered. I'll come back again.

Yelp
Couple friends came in town for Howard's Homecoming weekend and they mentioned Miss Toya's. This restaurant has been on my list for a little while now just haven't been able to make it as yet. The opportunity presented itself and I finally went. The ambiance is really cute and cozy. It was clean and we were seated right away. They usually don't seat your party unless everyone is present because some of us were parking they did seat my friends before I got there. They will need a card and will charge you $20 pp for everyone who doesn't show up, so be sure you are going with reliable people. The waiter took our order and she was friendly and well knowledgeable about the menu. I couldn't really decide, but finally went with the shrimp and grits. My friends ordered the catfish and grits, the French toast and the omelette. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. The waiter forgot a couple things we ordered and brought my friend a pineapples mimosa when he asked for a fruit punch mimosa, he didn't trip about it. I ordered the blueberry mule and it was REALLY sweet. Usually a mule is my go to cocktail and never fails me but yeah this one wasn't it. I really did love the shrimp and grits the shrimp wasn't over cooked and it was seasoned very well. I would absolutely come back for the food, not so much the drinks, but everyone was super friendly and the the restaurant is pretty spacious and not a bad location at all. The manager also came around to greet everyone and really showed great hospitality! Overall I enjoyed it and I'm glad I went. There's another location coming to DC over at the Penn Branch center that should open in 5 weeks we were told if you don't want to drive to the Silver Spring location.

Yelp
1 things for certain, 2 for sure, I ain't coming back. 1 I couldn't locate this place to save my life or anyone else's. I tried to call them for over 15 minutes and the phone rang to an immediate vm. I finally found parking, walked in, and the only 2 hostesses... ARE ON THE PHONE !! 2 Ms. Vera at the front podium isn't the most personable and would be better fit doing something else, AWAY FROM CUSTOMERS! 3 They sat my gf and I at the tiniest table in the world. 4 Menus aren't up to date. There's nothing Creole about this place at all, all American food. 5 Ordered the following... Breakfast Potatoes - Lukewarm, undercooked and not yum. Sent these suckas back. Creole Wings (Plain w Bourbon Sauce on the Side) - Average. Safe. NOT CREOLE!! Chicken & Waffles - Average, not as described. Positives... 1 Parking garage across the street is free on the weekends. 2 Our table person (Jamie) was delightful. Sweet. 3 The place is cute. Pretty long bar w tvs, cute swings at a few tables. 4 There is no 4. ** walks away from this review **

Yelp
The restaurant was clean, even the restroom. Our waitress was very sweet, patient, and attentive. The food was decent. The presentation was thoughtful. It was plentiful! I couldn't even fit in dessert and took home leftovers. Nothing in particular wowed me, but I would return to work my way through the menu. What was ordered: - Creole wings - missed the mark - Surf & Turf Rolls - tasted better as leftovers - Loaded Creole Pasta - a little spicy, but not seasoned enough for me. It had shrimp, crab meat, and crab legs, but I couldn't find/taste the lobster. - Blackberry French Cocktail - It was strong. I liked it the more I drank it. It was a layered drink. Miss Toya's will not seat you until everyone in your party arrives. And you will be reminded that your 15 minute grace period is ending.
