⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Truly Unforgettable Evening Thanks to Erika! From start to finish, our dining experience at Miss Toya’s Southern Kitchen was nothing short of phenomenal. Erika—our server and true standout—elevated the evening with her warmth, professionalism, and impeccable attention to detail. Service & Atmosphere Erika greeted us with genuine enthusiasm, making us feel instantly welcome. She navigated a busy service seamlessly, always attentive—checking in just the right amount to ensure we were comfortable without feeling overwhelmed. Culinary Excellence The food was exquisite. Every dish brought bold, Southern flavors with sophistication: • Each bite was perfectly seasoned and thoughtfully plated. • The portions were generous but never rushed or heavy—just right Drinks That Delight Our cocktails were beautifully presented and expertly mixed—refreshing, balanced, and as delicious as they looked. They paired wonderfully with the meal and Diane’s recommendations really hit the mark. Why Erika Made the Night • Personable & professional: Erika checked in regularly, anticipating our needs. • Informed & personable: She offered thoughtful recommendations and shared a few behind-the-scenes details with genuine pride in the cuisine. • Attentiveness: From refilling waters to offering dessert suggestions, each gesture felt intentional—never robotic. Overall Impression Miss Toya’s is already known for generous portions, vibrant Creole-inspired dishes, and a welcoming dining vibe highlighted in numerous five‑star reviews But what truly made our visit memorable was Erika’s service. She brought a level of hospitality that felt rare—genuine, caring, and expertly handled. We’ll be returning soon—and we’ll be asking for Erika.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere at the restaurant and the food was good, my mac and cheese could have been hotter and fresher , it was good don’t get me wrong. The greens were definitely delicious I didn’t necessarily like the fat pieces of the turkey neck in my greens . The salmon was also very flavorful. The appetizer was the Hot Honey Salmon bites, which was amazing but the sauce was a little too spicy for me . Overall it was a good experience with good food, and I came on a Monday. So I would definitely come back for another round on another day.

Came for brunch and ordered the jambalaya and lamb chops. Everything was seasoned well and we didn’t have to wait too long. Our server, Marlin, was the best! A couple of my lamb chops were rare (ordered medium) and he saw it and got some refired, no problem. We’ll be back 😊

The moment we walked in to this beautiful location we were greeted with big smiles and warm welcome. Relaxed atmosphere and the service was impeccable. Our Server Marlo was amazing. We didn't really have to ask for anything he was spot on to provide us with everything we needed. Another helper server was was there to back him up is he was with another customer. THE FOOD...10 out of 10. Run don't walk.

Whew chilllleeee!! We were in town for the DST National Convention and were looking for some good food! Miss Toya’s exceeded what we were expecting! EVERYTHING was good!! The customer service, the atmosphere and the staff! We almost ordered the whole menu! The catfish, grits, lamp chops, pork chops, salmon were all delicious! The greens, Mac and cheese and seafood rice were chef’s kiss! And the cornbread…we had to get some to go!! Oh and Erika, the manager/waitress/bartender was super sweet! Go eat at Miss Toya’s! Your belly will be blessed!

My husband and I are her visiting friends and decided to try this place out. Our waiter Erika was very welcoming and tentative. The food was even better. I definitely recommend. Keep in mind if you dine in there will be a 20% service fee added to your bill.

Let me start off by saying, Erika was amazing!!! We came in for a late brunch for my birthday and from the time we sat to the time we left, she was on it! She gave us fantastic service. It was our first time dining & we went with all of the recommendations she gave and loved it all! the lamb chops were absolutely delicious!!! She kept the drinks flowing & even heightened our experience by sending over a customized birthday sign. 10/10 would recommend coming in and make sure to ask for Erika!

Google
Imani was an excellent server. She was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. 4 stars for food because my collard greens were cold but everything else was good. Lamb chops were a hit, a little spicy but good. Oysters and seafood egg rolls were good and flavorful. We will visit again if in the area.

Yelp
Weirdest thing ... we claimed it was too cold to cook but not too cold to go out for some GOODT fried catfish and chicken! Nothing has changed about the aesthetics here but I spent my time looking at my cocktail(s) and plate to care about much else. The food NEVER disappoints - not even our sides (cornbread, greens, sweet potatoes and cheesy grits) were top notch (again)! The lemon drop flight I ordered has effortlessly moved to my top 5 list. Full transparency ... I actually ordered an additional blueberry lemon drop to enjoy with my meal. (We listen and we don't judge!) Not sure why the service in establishments like this is always soooo mediocre! I was the first to arrive so I sat at the bar and, sadly, my bartender was the ONLY employee who made an effort to make eye contact, smile and communicate (outside of asking me for my order). *Sigh* The good still outweighs the bad here but I would LOVE to hear your opinion. Tell them you saw it on YELP.

Yelp
Wife was excited to visit the Laurel location, but something didnt feel right as soon we walked in. We walk in, and were the only one standing at the hostess desk. Apparently a big party was coming in and the waitresses and hostess were bickering about space and who can handle what. After 3 minutes of standing, we were seated. Waitress comes by (upset that she had to handle our table due to a big party coming in that another waitress had to handle) and stated she will bring us water. Water comes, and we were ready to place an order. Now, wife says online they have grilled cheese for kids (7yr old with shell fish allergies). Waitress stated they have NO GRILLED CHEESE. So, her only option was to provide for a child, chicken tenders or alfredo pasta.....but...no grill cheese? Your chef cant spare 2 minutes to make a grilled cheese which is on an online menu? The vibe was off right as we entered, and I had a feeling it was going to go south from there. As a waitress, go back and ask if they can make an online menu item. Needless to say...we left. Customer Service is key...especially for restaurants that cater to a certain ethnic group. To stay in business, you have to know your customers.

Yelp
Miss Toya's Southern Kitchen is an amazing establishment with incredible food and cocktails. I visited on a Saturday before heading to a meeting, and the experience was fantastic. My friend and I walked in without a reservation and were seated promptly, which was a pleasant surprise. The service was attentive, even with our waitress training someone new. For brunch, I decided to ask if they served salads, and to my delight, they did. I ordered a salad topped with salmon, and it was both flavorful and generously portioned--truly satisfying. My friend ordered the egg rolls, and I was lucky enough to try them. The combination of flavors was delightful, but it was the sweet chili sauce that truly elevated the dish to the next level. My friend also ordered the grits and catfish, which he described as absolutely delectable. Miss Toya's Southern Kitchen has definitely won me over with its bold flavors and warm hospitality. I'll definitely be back for another visit, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for quality Southern cuisine.

Yelp
Ordered from Uber Eats to try it out and no complaints here! Food was packaged individually and well. I got the fried chicken platter with mac & cheese and cornbread. This was the best corn bread muffin I've ever had! It came sitting in a literal puddle of honey but didn't think it needed any because it was moist and delicious! Chicken was great - a bit salty but overall good. Mac was good too. Pineapple upside down cake was okay.

Yelp
Surprisingly pleased but not sure I'll return! My family lives in the area and as a result we tend to visit Highlands for brunch when I'm in town. We always pass Miss Toya's to get around to the other side and we've heard some good things about it so we decided to try it out. We were a small party of two and arrived at noon on a Sunday. The bar was basically empty and there were two empty tables in the far back near the restrooms. I usually wouldn't sit in this spot but I was really hungry so I went for it. For drinks, we got two hot coffees with Bailey's. Mom also got a Bloody Mary. The coffees weren't really hot and the baileys was served as a shot to mix on your own. This isn't a problem as Highlands does the same thing but they don't charge $12 per shot of baileys. $24 for two small shots of Baileys is extremely overpriced. The Bloody Mary wasn't the best either. For food, we started with the salmon bites as an appetizer followed by the catfish & grits and the shrimp & grits. All of the food was delicious but overly salty and full of sauce which makes it extremely unhealthy. Obviously, we didn't visit Miss Toya's for healthy food lol but I'm over the drenched in sauce brunch meals (e.g. Milk & Honey, Kitchencray, etc.). The portion sizes of the meals were huge which is nice but they give you very few salmon bites. Now moving back to the ambiance, it was freezing in the restaurant and we were informed that the temperature could not be changed without the manager's permission and of course the manager wasn't there. So we uncomfortably sat and ate our food. This likely also played a role in why the coffee was cold. Anywho, I gave them four stars because our server was extremely kind, attentive and professional. The host was also kind and friendly. Needless to say, I won't be back. Maybe my mom will but I'm good off this one and done experience.

Yelp
I will admit that I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews. But BABYYYYY! Everything was sooooo good. Nice and Fresh and still piping hot after delivery, which lets me know that it was cooked to order and fresh! I love a Great Black Owned Restaurant! Will definitely order again.

Yelp
Sunday Brunch was great. Ordered Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer. On point. Catfish and grits for brunch. Catfish was crispy like I like it & the grits were creamy. Washed it down with a Hurricane and Peach Please. Both drinks were delicious. Our server was Tangie and she was great. She put our food in & it was out in about 8 minutes. The music was very inviting. Awesome for brunch.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in the door the staff, in particular Chris, was super helpful. He provided suggestions while providing service with a smile and warm disposition. Our to-go order was brought out in less than 20 minutes. The music had the flavor of old school vibes. We haven't had a chance to taste the food we ordered and I wanted to make sure to provide a glowing review on the service! Thank you!

Yelp
We walked into a clean, vibrant restaurant. The decor was nice. Unfortunately, for a southern inspired restaurant, there is no southern hospitality. The southern charm from the hostess and waitress was missing. I ordered shrimp and grits with catfish on the side. The shrimp and grits were good, but the catfish was either cooked too fast or they weren't pat fried prior to battering. It was mush, but the breading was good. I am not impressed.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying thank you Miss Toya for a delicious brunch. From the drinks to the food babe and I enjoyed it all. We ordered so much but yet it's still so much more to try. Our waitress Beonsoi was a doll and on point with the recommendations. Restaurant is located in a strip mall with a full bar. We visited on a Saturday maybe around 2pm and were seated right away and it was about 80% full between the bar and tables. Babe and I will be returning when we return to DC.

Yelp
Great service. We came here for dinner and the ambience was nice and food was very tasty! Andrea was our server and gave us top quality service and suggestions that we enjoyed. We came back the next day for brunch which was busier but fast service.

Yelp
Miss Toya's Kitchen DC Location Customer Service Pick Up Order & First-time customer. I went in and waited to be helped. The entry way area is a bit small and the line behind me was getting long. Once helped, I was given my order which was nice and hot. There really wasn't much of an area to check my bag for quality control so I checked outside in the car and I did receive everything I ordered the first time . Food Seafood Rolls-I was looking for more of a crab meat flavor. I believe I tasted shrimp but I didn't get that usual "seafood" taste. #bmoregirl Grilled Wings w/ Mumbo Sauce Fried Wing Dinner w/ Mumbo Sauce-I love mumbo sauce. Unfortunately, with the abundance of sauce the wings were super soggy. (Extra sauce not requested) Salmon w/ Fried Rice and Broccolini-The broccolini was delicious. Ambiance Very nice ambiance loved the grass wall and decor. -small parking lot is available

Yelp
Finally I had time to sit down and eat at Miss Toya's but the 1 in DC. I usually go to the Maryland location but happy to find one close to home. The restaurant is a decent size and very beautiful inside. Clean and a good amount of seating area. They also have a big bar in the middle of the restaurant which is different but nice. I was seated and didn't get attended to for 15/20 minutes. Other people came after me and got water and their order taken which was very disappointing. Once I did get a waitress, she was nice and helpful. SALMON, MAC & CHEESE, BROCCOLINI I was convinced to try something different since I ALWAYS get the fried catfish so I went this route. The salmon was perfectly cooked, seasoned well and topped with an amazing Cajun cream sauce. The broccolini was cooked great too and compliments the salmon. Last, but never least, the macaroni n cheese was good, definitely homemade style but it was way different than the other location. The MD location's Mac n Cheese is sooooo creamy and addicting, I was hoping for this but I'm ok with it being different. Since I waited another 20 minutes after I finished my food for service, I decided to not get dessert nor offered if I wanted it. I just asked for my check and that took another 15 minutes. Overall, the food is great but lacking attentiveness and needs improved customer service in my opinion. Others may have received better service but I didn't feel that way and shouldn't be singled out nor anyone else that came or is coming here. I'm hoping for improvement because i do like this place.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from here and it was ready within 15 minutes which was great. I ordered seafood fried rice, salmon, and collard greens. The salmon was pretty good. I prefer my salmon a bit more charred, but it was fine. There was a creamy sauce on top and I'm not a huge fan of creamy sauce, but it worked. Instead of seafood fried rice, I got fried rice. I was wondering where the shrimp was, so was a little disappointed that she didn't hear me clearly when I asked for seafood. My main gripe, though, is with the collard greens. They were way too salty. To the point it's almost inedible. There also wasn't any meat in it although menu claimed there would be smoked turkey bits. They definitely don't need to be so heavy handed with the salt. Not sure I'd eat here again due to the salt content.

Yelp
I stopped by around 9:15 pm on Saturday, 02-24-24 to make a take out order. They were still quite busy to be closing within the hour. The young man at the door was interrupted at least twice while I attempted to give my order, once from someone who called in an order but ended up hanging up; the other time by a young lady who was packing orders near the kitchen who'd brought an order and discussed some system not working. I ordered the blackened shrimp deviled eggs, a side of mac & cheese, and banana pudding. It was about 30 minutes between when I placed the order and when I received the order. The host told me I could sit at the bar until my order was ready. I sat on the far left side. I'm not sure how the host didn't see me as big as my coat was, but he apologized when he brought my order to me. The bar staff was excellent. Aside from enjoying watching them make various drinks, two different bartenders checked to see if I needed anything. It was one of the bartenders who noticed that I'd been waiting for a while when he tracked down my order. I have mixed reviews about my order. Had I known I'd be paying $13 for two deviled eggs (4 halves), I may not have ordered. The shrimp size did seem to be colossal, but I expected more than 2 eggs for the price. The mac & cheese had a lot of cheese like I like, but it seemed to be dry. The banana pudding was a good portion size, but there was more whipped cream than I prefer. Also, the bananas were all brown. I kinda gave a pass on that since it was the end of the night. I would return again when in the area, but maybe just for drinks as it seemed that everyone at the bar was happy with their drink orders. May want to check the glasses and mule mugs nearest the far left side of the bar. Not sure if they're just for decoration, but most appeared to have water spots, giving the appearance of not being clean from certain angles.

Yelp
I decided to try this restaurant after reading a few reviews and I give it a 3 star. The food was mediocre nothing to brag about. The macaroni and cheese was really basic. The greens were not seasoned to my liking and the chicken was really basic and it came with some sauce. My food was missing flavor. The restaurant itself is nice , very cozy and the young lady at the front was super friendly and very customer oriented. I love the decor. They have a bar which is a plus, I wasn't able to order a drink I just did a quick order to go. I did enjoy the atmosphere while I was there. I may try again but this time sit at the bar and order appetizers and a drink. They have fried green tomatoes on their menu as an appetizer, and I do want to try it out.

Yelp
This was my second time at this location and I wanted to try the happy hour! I had the HH margarita flight and wings. I've had the margarita flight during regular hours and it was much stronger. The wings were delicious and the perfect serving. I like the food here so I'll be back, but probably not for HH because my drinks weren't good. Although the restaurant was empty, the service was a little slow, but no biggie.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Wanted to do a review since it's only my second time here ordering on door dash. Both times I've called the restaurant the staff have been nice. Unsure why the low reviews but both of my door dash meals were hot like i would get at the restaurant which is very impressive since most orders on there are usually cold. The food was good too. The Mac and cheese didn't convince me honestly but by looking at it i can tell it was the end of the batch so i will give them another try.

Yelp
I love this Miss Toyas! I did not care for the one in Silver Spring so I was weary about this location. However, they are completely different! My coworkers and I order from here all the time. This place does take orders from ubereats! I love that they label the orders. My favorite items from the menu are: - Blackened salmon dinner - Southern Catfish dinner - Mashed potatoes and cornbread - Fried crab stuffed shrimp that comes with a corn succotash - Corn bread Some tips: - when ordering the salad, it does not automatically come with dressing; go to sauces and order it from there - the corn bread taste awesome but add some more butter and I hear it is to another level - the collards and cabbage are made with meats - love the lemonade and berry lemonade; always get these Other: - my coworker loves their oxtail but it is inconsistent with spice level - I do not care for the rices - we don't like the candied yams - the Cajun pasta allows me to take out the shrimp and include shrimp instead; love this feature since I am pescatarian - I don't care for the devil eggs but I love the shrimp that comes on it! Big and juicy , flavorful shrimp - the seafood egg rolls are pretty good Enjoy!

Yelp
Delicious meal, large portions, and great service by Kendall! Would definitely return for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Best fried pork chops ever! Also love the mashed potatoes and collard greens. Great service at the bar.

Yelp
Walked into Miss Toya's around 12 pm for lunch. It was not crowded, they were playing really nice R&B. I sat at the bar and was immediately given a food and drink menu. I ordered salmon bites and shrimp deviled eggs. The samon bites were tasted really good and fried to perfection. The sauce was a great combination of honey sweet and semi hot glaze. The shrimp deviled eggs were good however the fried shrimp was a little to salty. The deviled egg mixture was really good with right amount of relish which gave it a little sweet taste. I will definately return to try other dishes. If you are ever inthe DC area check this place out you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I'm so happy I came across this restaurant while on Tiktok. My friend and I got there when they first opened and our food was so fresh and flavorful. Our waitress, Erika, was absolutely amazing! She welcomed us with open arms and recommended what was the best thing on the menu. We had an amazing time and made me feel so special the day before my birthday.
google avatar

Crystal C.

Yelp
Today is my son's birthday so my husband picked some carry out from Miss Toya's on his way home from work. I've been wanting to try the one in Silver Spring so I was happy to hear they opened a location closer to my side of town. He ordered a few different things for us to try and share. The macaroni and cheese was ok. Not as flavorful as I would've liked but my husband really liked it. The cabbage was excellent but the collard greens were bland. The cornbread was probably some of the best I've ever had. It was moist like cake. The fried hot lemon pepper wings just tasted like fried wings dipped in buffalo sauce. The grilled cajun wings had no flavor whatsoever. While the gumbo had good flavor it was super oily so I didn't eat much out of fear it might give me the BGs. For dessert we got a piece of bread pudding which was pretty good and we got a free "birthday dessert" for my son which turned out to be a slice of cheesecake. He really liked it. Overall the food was just ok. Nothing about it made me feel like I'd want to return.
google avatar

Rita A.

Yelp
This place has amazing food, and gives you generous sized portions. The macaroni and cheese was chefs kisses and the fried catfish was perfect. The customer service was on point and I'm very pleased with my experience, especially since I was visiting D.C for the first time. I highly recommend this business for delicious soul food.

Yelp
We came to the area to watch our daughter play a collegiate softball game. We were looking for a restaurant with good food and cold drinks and Miss Toya's delivered! From the minute we walked in, the smell grabbed our attention!! The service was excellent! Krystal was the best! We sat at the bar and she took excellent care of us! The drinks were ice cold and the food was delicious! We are from Miami, FL so I am not sure when we will be back in the area but I can assure you when we are, we will be back! Keep up the good work!

Yelp
This is a cute little restaurant, in a location with parking as we all know that parking in DC can be scary at times. The service was good, the waitress was very attentive and kinda fun. Unfortunately the food was a "No" for me. I don't know how much salt one needs but the salt on that impersonation of a red snapper batter was not it. It was so salty I couldn't even eat it, it was plated beautifully but that's all it was, a beautiful plate of food. Order Red Snapper (I don't think that was red snapper) too salty - it was hot this was cooked as ordered. Maybe it was cooked frozen and that's why it had a wet look to it on the inside. Collard greens -warm Mac and cheese - stiff Sweet potatoes - warm The sides seemed to have been cooked earlier in the day and wasn't warmed good which makes me believe that it's not being stored good. Why are the sides in small bowls? Why these restaurants do this and thinks it's ok is beyond me. We want the food to come out hot if it's a hot food order. Maybe that's why it was so easy to be seated on a Friday night. They had a lot of take out orders, the last thing anyone wants in a take out order is the get it home and not be satisfied. Would I try this restaurant again? Absolutely, in hopes that it's better the second time around.

Yelp
Erin was our server and she was so awesome. Friendly, attentive, and quick. The place is bigger than I thought and the music is a little loud but it's good. Food though is like the cook put their foot in it. Yummy. I got the shrimp and grits without the gravy. It was good. Catfish, greens, Mac and cheese, gumbo and chops were on point. I also had a margarita and it was good.

Dawn T.

Yelp
My family and I decided to bring my mother here for her bday. Everybody got their meal besides me. I order the seafood pasta, waited 30 mins after everybody else got their meal, and the manager stated that their was a mishaps with my order. Meaning my order was not put in. I will never go to this location ever again. And all they offered was some banana pudding because I no longer wanted to wait for my meal after everybody else was finished their meal. The catfish that my mother had was fried too hard. And the crab cakes my aunt had overly breaded. Thinking it was supposed to be jumbo lump crab cakes. I was very displeased and will never support their business ever again. I wouldn't give any stars but I had to to post this review.

Yelp
Came in for lunch at the bar and had fried wings with mumbo sauce; 8.5/10 the crunch was immaculate, mumbo sauce not too heavily dipped and oxtail will make you yell!! lol it was so juicy and tender (pause) 9/10 (I should have asked for more rice). I had the Becky's Sangria (red wine sangria) it came with a popsicle; I felt a little clumsy drinking the sangria and navigating the popsicle smacking me in the face, so for round 2 I asked for no garnishes My server was Erica, she was very responsive and checked on me often. I'm definitely coming back. Overall 8/10 Only thing they should add is maybe more seating for after hour vibes. But still 8/10.

Yelp
We stopped by to dine in for lunch. After sitting for a while and not warming up, we asked about the heat and was told that it is broken. Pivot! We switched to a to-go order. As an appetizer we ordered salmon bites with hot honey sauce on the side. For entrees we ordered shrimp and grits and catfish and grits. We ordered Arnold Palmer's to drink. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The interior decor is cute. Our food was delicious! I'm looking forward to trying more items on the menu. I took off a star because we were not informed about the lack of heat. Today's high is 29 degrees.

Nesfa W.

Yelp
Great vibe and atmosphere. The waitress greeted me when I came in. There is a bar option for one guest dining. The waiter provided extra condiments and double checked if things were well. The food portion was filling as well! 5 stars

Yelp
It's very cozy in here. The bar is where you need to be, as soon as I got here CK (the bartender I forget his name) was able to take care of us.

Yelp
I ordered delivery so I can not speak on the ambiance. The meal looked really good. However, I don't believe the fish had any seasoning but it was crispand not fried to hard. The Mac n cheese was creamy and plentyful. The collard green had a flavor, but the meal over all did not have a creole taste. I would have liked the greens to have been in different container due to the juice spilling over to the fish and Mac n cheese. No condiments came along with the delivery. I will probably try the meal again when dinning in to see if the seasoning was a one off.

Yelp
We treated ourselves to a fun evening in the city we live in and chose Toya's because the Creole House in Silver Spring had great food, service, and atmostphere. We arrived 630pm to plenty of parking and what seemed like many of open seats. We were taken to a table and asked if it was okay. We said we'd prefer to be seated in an area that looked available. She explained that was the only seat available because they were expecting a party of 17. I wondered why we were asked if that was the case. She took our beverage order. I chose ice water w/out lemon. My friend chose a Blue Moon. Her Blue Moon arrived in a glass mug and was placed on the table. The serve left before I could ask about my beverage. When she returned, she asked if we were ready to order. We told her we weren't ready yet and had menu questions. One question was, we were unable to locate a menu on their official webpage but found 2 different dinner menus on Yelp. One had additional menu items listed. We hoped that would be the menu but it wasn't so we had to rethink it. We hoped to engage with our server to make decisions about the food, how it was prepared, what's popular and things like that. She wasn't looking in our direction and most of the time seemed to be looking out of the door, nor was she speaking so that we could hear her or providing assistance. She was very dry and wasn't friendly at all and that lowered my excitement of being out and having fun. Before she left this time, I asked for the ice water without lemon again and Corona without lime. My friend asked for an orange slice for her beverage. She asked if I wanted a cold glass and I declined. My friend then wonder why she wasn't offered a cold glass for her's, but didn't ask. When she returned a few minutes later, she had my ice water, my Corona and a dehydrated orange slice for my friend's beverage and left again very quickly. My friend expected a fresh orange slice but again, didn't mention it. I tasted my drink and it was warm. When we saw her again, because by now, she really wasn't offering us much attention, I asked if there was another place she could put the next beer so it would cold. She said no, but then after I asked about it being able to be placed it in a cooler at the bar etc., she pointed to something near the bar and said something unrecongizable to either of us and left. We both noticed that other tables where we asked to be seated were now being utilized by patrons who had arrived after us, who were NOT part of the party. We said nothing about it and when she came back, we ordered the Steak and Cheese Egg Roll appetizer and continued to study the menu. Once the appetizer arrived, we had decided on our meal and when she came, ordered it still feeling very underwhelmed because of the way we were being treated. I ordered the Carribean Lamb Chops, Brocolini and Five Cheese Mac. My friend ordered Fried Catfish, Fried Rice and Collard Greens. Still talking about our experience, we began to wonder if we still wanted to eat here and got the attention of the host. We asked if it was too late to stop the order we had just placed. She said no but she wanted to understand why we were unhappy. After relaying our full experience thus far, she told us that the large party had greatly reduced and they began seating other patrons there. Even though we expressed interest in being seated in that location, our server didn't take time to offer it to us when it bacame apparent that the seats were available even though we hadn't order yet. The host also stated if she had room, she would move us to a location where someone else could serve us, but didn't have a table available now. She stated that she would advise the manager of our concerns and she would talk to us. We requested to move to the bar and our beverages were brought over from the table. We began speaking to who we thought was the bartender but learned it was the manager after-all. Moving on, my friend enjoyed her Catfish and the creole sauce served with it. She loved the Fried Rice but the Collard's, not so much. Sampling her fish and rice, I totally agree. My order arrived but instead of the Mac and Cheese, they had given me collard's but quickly brought the Mac and Cheese once I advised. I could relate to her on the collard's. They had a very bitter after-taste. I felt like the brocolini was very bland and as much as I didn't want this to be, the Lamb Chops fell way short of my expectations. I'm not sure if comparing them to the Silver Spring location is fair, but I think it is since these are the same owners. The manager saw, since I ordered a to-go box immediately, that I was not enjoying this meal and she asked and accepted it back. I appreciated that. I will not be going back to this restaurant nor would I recommend it. I also think the restrooms should be much cleaner. Photo's attached.

Yelp
Food really good, have been about 3 times. The fried catfish dinner w a side of Mac and yams is my goto . The salmon sliders on the happy hour are a banger too. Highly recommended, they take soul food seriously and it shows. Doesn't taste like a place that's making it just to market to black people. This really taste like soul food Sunday at big mammas house lol. My only critique are the drinks. All the signature drinks are extremely sweet/syrupy ...no options that are light or not overwhelmingly sweet. Also the drinks are kind of gimmicky in predentation (special glass for each drink and tons of unnecessary garnish) which makes it take almost 3-5 minutes per drink order so service can be slow although the bartenders are constantly working busy I understand a lot of people like cute sweet drinks with a fancy over the top presentations...but there aren't options (atleast on the happy hour) that arent.

Yelp
I regret in giving this review. I visited on April 10. 2024 at 4:17 pm. The restaurant wasn't busy and hardly any customers. The cabbage wasn't warm. It had a lot juice. Sweet potatoes okay it had sweetness The oxtails had more bones and fat than meat Salmon bites was okay in a sweet sauce It took 50 mins before I got my appetizer The MsToya's hurricane drink was good and sweet and strong. I got a buzz. I spent $78.00 and it wasn't worth the price. Do better!! I won't BE BACK! - [ ]

Yelp
I was super excited to try this place. Went here for the opening and it was all bad from the service to the food! I mean just ghetto! We had the fried chicken that was still bleeding! The salmon was just ok and the rice had no flavor with undone veggies inside. The drinks were good but didnt taste like any alcohol was in them. I'm depth review with pictures below!

Yelp
We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Aundrea, and she made our dining experience unforgettable! From the moment we sat down, her positive energy and gorgeous smile lit up the room. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, checking in just the right amount and always with such genuine warmth. The food was so amazing and tasty! Loved every bite. Also, Aundrea has a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome and taken care of. We're already looking forward to our next visit--can't wait to come back and see her again! Thank you, Aundrea, for being amazing!

Yelp
"Blackened Chicken Pasta" $26; completed submerged in oil. Nothing "blackened" about this chicken. I expected more for a southern restaurant. This is trash. Flavor was OIL, no taste of Alfredo sauce. Completely inedible and a waste of my money. Never again.

Yelp
Don't see what all the hype is about. Tried the devil eggs. Meh. The biscuits were okay. The drinks are nice and the staff is very pleasant.

Yelp
Ordered delivery through UberEats. Ordered the Oxtails with mash potatoes and greens. The food was delicious but the oxtails were all bones with barely any meat. I basically had the sauce over my mashed potatoes. It was very expensive for just bones

Yelp
Miss Toya's Southern Kitchen lived up to the hype! I ordered the chicken wing dinner with fried rice and cabbage. The mumbo sauce was a standout - sweet with a touch of heat, reminiscent of childhood flavors. The fried rice was flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The catfish dinner was equally impressive. The batter was crispy, and the fish was cooked to perfection. The greens were flavorful but could have used a bit more acidity. The cornbread was a miss on this visit, but everything else was delicious. I'll definitely be back to try more!

Yelp
We went here last night for the first time ever. I must say.... Round of applause the taste, the portions, the energy in the building. All worth it. We sat at the bar to eat because they were kind of packed. The bartender who helped us was very nice and polite. The only issue I had was that I ordered the shrimp and grits and was told that they wouldn't remove the tail from the shrimp for me. However my 1 minor issue will not stop me from coming back again. I will still definitely be back. The food was that dag on GOOD

Yelp
Since NEVER has the east side of DC had such an amazing establishment. You know when you order take out, if it is as savory as eating in the restaurant, you've struck gold! The atmosphere feels familial as if you've been there before. The family greets you, they talk to you like they love their ministry of service/hospitality, and they attend to you as if you're a guest and a long lost relative all in one! Miss Toya's Southern Kitchen east of the river is HOME! Like the 8th President of Claflin University used to tell us, "Come home often!" Shout-out to thee amazing Miss Bridgette, a most gracious, anointed professional, and gorgeous Server

This was my first time eating here! The food was absolutely delicious!!! I had the salmon, fried rice and broccolini... I almost licked my elbow!!! The food is delicious! The service was top tier! The ambiance was beautiful! The location is great as well! However, the parking can be a beast! Doesn't change my rating for the restaurant!!! I will be back very soon!

Yelp
I was excited to come and try the food today . Walked in and was greeted said I was doing takeout, the host asked if I was doing cash or card. I stated card walked over to the bar per the request of the host. Unfortunately I was not able to place an order due to the bar tender that was heavily involved in his conversation with two young ladies who were not ready to order. I stood for about 10 min waiting to place an order. The bar tender saw that I had a menu and said hello to me. He proceeded to look me in the eye and walk around the bar and never came back. So I'm a little disappointed because I came from VA to try the food. Maybe next time.
