Mission Blue - Review - Visitacion Valley - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Mission Blue is a cafe and gift shop in Visitacion Valley that serves Saint Frank’s coffee, seasonal pastries, and tons of gift options from SF-based artists. It’s the perfect place to get Crosstown Trail merch (they’re right on the massive 17-mile trek across the city), Sutro Tower wall art, and Muni paintings for any transit enthusiasts in your life. Outside of all knick-knacks, you’ll find a short menu of coffee and tea with a few specialty drinks like a lavender latte with lavender from the owner’s garden and a chamomile honey tea bowl that’s great for when you’re feeling a little under the weather. While there’s no indoor seating, there are a few tables out front for relaxing and breathing in the scent of lavender on a sunny day. Or you could just walk around the small shop with your latte and enjoy the communal atmosphere. photo credit: Melissa Zink photo credit: Melissa Zink photo credit: Melissa Zink photo credit: Melissa Zink" - Ricky Rodriguez

Google
This place lives up to its name by having a wonderful mission - supporting local artists and community activities - and has an incredible lavender latte. You can shop for prints, stickers, enamel pins, accessories, and more, all designed by locals. The vibes are so good, it's definitely my new favorite coffee shop. I'll be back here soon.

Google
A little neighborhood gem! This coffee shop serves up great coffee with friendly service. This is exactly the type of business that makes the Crosstown Trail so fun. The minute you walk into Mission Blue, you can feel a sense of community. The staff knew almost everyone in line. And for the people they didn't know, they would try to get to know you, which I found warm and welcoming.

Google
The coffee is decent and the person running it also has a cute store featuring local creators. He is also very friendly and honest about how they make different coffee. I liked the vibe.

I wanted to come to this place for a long time and I finally had the opportunity. The place is very nice filled with random things to buy. I love that most of the thing are local so this is a local business supporting other local small/business. The menu is is great and you can find different options for drinks and pastries. I had an iced lavender latte and it was delicious I also had a pastry but forgot the name of it. Everything was great from the service to the price and quality , I 100% recommend people to come here. For sure I will!!!!

Two very personable baristas. Cappuccino was very hot. A touch watery.

Google
One of my favorite places to get coffee and a pastry in SF! The staff are so kind and I love that they support local artists. Outdoor seating is also very nice. A true gem.

Google
Amazing lavender latte. Great coffee itself, not bitter and had great robustness but delicate at the same time. The lavender was not too strong either nor was it too sweet. My perfect type of treat coffee. The owners and service was so kind and genuine. They really made the experience lovely. Art and interior also peaked my interest with all the local works.

Yelp
I love a good coffee shop in the city & this one really was a hit! If you're looking for a place where you can shop small bay area businesses, while also looking for a local coffee shop, you've absolutely found your place! If you're looking to do work at a coffee shop, I wouldn't recommend as there is not a lot of space to work except outside a couple of tables & obviously there's no outlets outside. This place is such a vibe & I can't wait to be back! Parking- There is street parking here which is metered but parking wasn't much of an issue in my opinion! Shop- They have such amazing pieces here from homemade jewelry to stickers & shirts, seriously this place is covered in cute small businesses art! I saw someone mention that they stopped here on the crossroads trail & i noticed they had a little section here just for that, which is super unique and fun! Ube Latte- Loved this drink, super refreshing and exactly what I wanted! This was a June special & I will be back to try more drink and eventually their pastries!

Yelp
3.5 Stars for me. They have excellent service, and I really appreciate how they support small businesses by offering merch from local makers in-store. The place is packed with cute items like earrings, stickers, mugs, candles, toys, postcards, and more. I ordered a matcha latte with vanilla sweetener, but it didn't quite hit the spot for me. It was milkier than I prefer, with the matcha flavor getting a bit lost. That said, I've heard great things about their other drinks and wish I had the chance to try more!
google avatar

Yelp
Our first stop on the crosstown trail! I loved this place. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the brown ube latte I got was fantastic! It's a June special so highly recommend while it's still here. We also got a fruit danish and it was delicious as well. All reasonably priced too (under $11 for both items). The inside of the store has a ton of gifts and trinkets for sale from local businesses -- very fun to browse while you wait for your order. They have a good amount of outdoor seating, and it's located right next to a beautiful courtyard that's conveniently part of the crosstown trail!

Yelp
saw this on the top 7 of the 2024 list of US top 25 coffee shops and this was the only SF one, so I had to come. the interior is an adorable shop selling trinkets like candles, stickers, charms, jewelry, bags, etc., so you can browse around while waiting for your drink! the pastries are sourced from various bakeries, and the coffee is saint frank's coffee. we ordered an iced soy lavender latte ($5.75) and an iced oat coconut ube latte ($5.75+$0.50). the lavender latte had a really strong lavender flavor if you're into that! I liked the coconut ube latte better but it was very sweet. overall a fun shop and menu, would recommend!

Yelp
Amazing spot - stopped by as part of our crosstown trail and it was packed! The line moved fast though - we were in and out in 10 minutes. I got the honey rose latte, and the coffee was strong and not too sweet, which I liked! There's a ton of fun merch and goodies being sold as well. No public bathroom!
google avatar

Constance L.

Yelp
The cutest coffee shop ever!! Lots of local art and goodies, and a reeeeally delicious mocha -- piping hot, just the right amount of sweetness, and a rich chocolate flavor that doesn't detract from the espresso. Love that they have a whipped cream option (every coffee shop should have this tbh) Staff who helped us was super friendly and noticed that we were doing the Crosstown Hike. Such a wholesome start to our day :)

Yelp
This is definitely a great coffee shop to check out if you are in the area. When you first walk in, you are greeted by handcrafted items displayed throughout the café, which gives local artists a chance to showcase and sell their work. In addition to the creative atmosphere, they also have a great variety of coffee options on the menu. The cashier was incredibly friendly and helpful, offering suggestions based on my preferences. I mentioned that I enjoy London Fog, and she recommended trying their Lavender Fog, which is similar but with a hint of lavender. I gave it a try, and honestly, it was even better. The subtle lavender flavor and the little garnish on top made it feel extra special. This is definitely a spot I would return to.

Yelp
Mission Blue | San Francisco 1. Iced Taro Coconut Latte 2. Iced Lavender Latte Mission Blue is a charming neighborhood café in San Francisco, perfect for grabbing a coffee or relaxing with friends. Nestled in a cozy setting, it's known for its warm ambiance and exceptionally crafted beverages, from rich espresso drinks to refreshing teas. Their lavender latte is pretty good, offering the perfect balance of floral notes and rich coffee flavor.

Yelp
Mission Blue has made a fan out of me! This small coffee shop is so cute. What brought me in was wanting to try the Lavender Latte. When I got there, the barista was able to tell me so much more about the drinks and gave me additional recommendations. I stuck with the Lavender Latte and it was so good and creamy with oat milk. I love the detail of the Lavender served on the lid. I did enjoy all the handmade items available for purchase however, I was sad to see there was nowhere inside for me to be cozy and enjoy my coffee. Regardless, it is a cute spot and I would love to go back and support this small businesses.

Yelp
Try this place! If you're reading this review, this is your sign to go! Drink - 5/5 - Lavender Latte (Oat Milk) was on point and loved the flower aesthetic Vibe - 4/5 - Very welcoming environment - They sell very cool, local items - Wish there was seating indoors since I'm not a fan of sitting out in the cold Customer Service - 5/5 - The baristas were VERY helpful, especially Jonathan (he should get a raise!!)

Yelp
It's hard to decide where to start - the creative delicious drinks, incredibly welcoming baristas, fantastic selection of gifts by local artisans, or the feeling of being home every time you step inside Mission Blue! I'm a decaf drinker (I know, don't come for me!) and the decaf at Mission Blue is so good, it makes me feel like a real adult haha! I love the specials that encourage me to try a little something different, while my go to drinks are always consistent no matter who makes them. Sometimes I pop in just because I want to see the staff. They're not just friendly; they are genuine. Kind with kiddos and pups, patient with elders, and really great at creating the perfect cup! I'm a regular, and I still find new pieces and fun gifts each week that make me say "when did this get here?!" My friends are lucky because a visit to Mission Blue often results in a friend receiving a just because gift - just because I saw it and it was perfect for so and so, and I just had to get it! The shop is full of earrings, apparel, candles, prints, pottery, and original paintings all by local artists. I like keeping my money local - it's perfect! I grew up and still live in this neighborhood, but I've never before been so engaged and in touch with my neighbors and community. Kellie and Ken (Mission Blue's owners) did that. Probably the most unique and special part of this coffee and gift shop is its owners' infectious joy and their impact on our community. Community doesn't just happen - it's built. And Mission Blue along with other dedicated Leland businesses and Vis Valley neighbors have built community. Come by on a Saturday and see the plaza next door filled with families enjoying live music and pop-ups invited in by Kellie. Join the neighborhood clean-up on Tuesdays that meet at the shop. Or the Mothers Walking Group on Thursdays that start their mini-adventures on the block. Mission Blue is a stop along The Crosstown Trail, so I often see new folks walking through and visiting the shop for the first time. It delights me to see their eyes widen with their first look! It's that "oooh we've found a gem and need to come back" look. And I know they will.

Yelp
I love coming here! The coffee shop always has cute souvenirs and the lattes are always good! The best part are the baristas that always make my day brighter! Hidden neighborhood gem!

Yelp
Love the vibe at this local coffee/ retail shop. Supporting local business by buying your daily caffeine and local goods. Good finds for birthday or celebratory gifts. Also sell local confections such as TCHO, Dandelions, LAmourette, Dark Taylor, others.
google avatar

Yelp
The service here is so amazing! The woman at the register was so friendly. The lavender latte was so YUMMY! The roast was perfect and the amount of sweetnes was perfect.

Yelp
Great neighborhood coffee shop. Friendly staff, great drinks, and yummy pastries. This is not just a coffee shop, but a neighborhood hub. Kelly, the owner, has done wonders for the area.

Yelp
HUGE fan of this neighborhood spot! Came by with my family and ordered a few drinks, and browsed the shop. Ordered: - Thai iced coffee (cinnamon on top): loved it, wasn't too sweet and the cinnamon was a nice touch! - Hot cocoa: sister said it was good. - Mocha: mom liked it, and price point was great when considering it's a neighborhood spot and the bougie places are charging even more! I don't live in the area anymore, but wanted to rep my hometown neighborhood at work so I bought an awesome cup. 94134 represent!

Yelp
My favorite coffee place in the city... it's locally owned and showcases local artists throughout their store/coffee shop. Really great handcrafted drinks, my favorite is the lavender latte, iced with the warm weather recently... it's a hidden gem! Totally worth a drive and spend some time through their store checking out different works and products from various artists in the bay... the people who work here are very genuine and friendly. Come by!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by when I was in the hood. Got a mocha, black sesame cookie and coffee cake. All outstanding. Josh and Carrie (sp?) were so kind and thoughtful. Appreciated their help as I rolled in

Yelp
What a great little coffee shop! My guy found this on a walk about in DalyCity. He would wake me up with a fresh latte that he ordered, and some pastry. It was awesome. My own visit to the location proved that it was located near an area we were gonna walk and explore. Remi and I really loved this shop!
google avatar

Yelp
I hardly come to Blue Mission nowadays but when I do, I don't regret it. I love walking my dog in the neighborhood and my dog cannot resist coming in, because he knows the staff will spoil him with treats! It's a very cute, quaint cafe with walls of cool art and crafts and gifts for loved ones. There's no indoor seating but there's seating outside and a cute park to chill at! Not only that but the staff and Kelly (the sweet owner) takes their time to really get to know you by name and eventually by drink. It's a treat to come and get a hand crafted drink and get lost in all the cool things they have and offer! Big love and thank you for being in the Vis Valley neighborhood!

Yelp
Great coffee shop on the Crosstown Trail. I found the environment very joyful, and the coffee / tea to be delicious. They also sell lots of cool SF trinkets from local artists and as well as pastries.

Yelp
Amazing coffee must try their lavender latte!! The owner Kellie is the sweetest! Such a hidden gem for coffee with a cute plaza to sit and enjoy with a beautiful mural! My kids love coming here to play and look at all the local vendors items that Mission Blue has!

Yelp
This is the spot for coffee, local crafts, and great service! They have amazing drinks and bakery treats!

Yelp
I had just finished performing at the Visitation Valley Library earlier and we were discussing what to eat after. A nice man walked up to us and recommended a couple places, including this nice coffee shop. Not only is it a coffee shop, but it's also a gift shop! It has such a nice and welcoming atmosphere and the owner is so kind. They have so many unique options on their menu, so it was really hard to choose. I asked her for her recommendations and she said that the lavender latte and their chai is popular and very good. I ended up getting the Rose Vanilla Chai Latte because it seemed very unique to me. Personally, I haven't drank much chai, but she said it was good, so I took her advice. It was very good! The rose flavour was very strong, and the chai and vanilla went so well together. I would definitely like to come back and get a drink from here again, and maybe buy a nice gift as well. Everything about this place was awesome.

Yelp
Cute lil' shop Great coffee Tasty, baked in a bakery baked goods! The real deal & their in my neighborhood!
google avatar

Yelp
Vis Valley loves Mission Blue! I stop by almost every day to get coffee and end up chatting with the wonderful owners and staff. This is more than a coffee shop- you can get gifts like super cute earrings made by local artists and you'll always find a friendly neighbor to talk to. The owners are like community organizers, bringing in musicians and pop-up events every weekend. The honey lavender latte is delicious.
google avatar

Lee Ann W.

Yelp
I was in the area and stopped in for some coffee. The staff is so welcoming and the coffee is delicious. I didn't even put my regular tablespoon of sugar in it. The pastries are amazing as well. There isn't any indoor seating but the outdoor area is charming and off the street.
google avatar

Jessamine J.

Yelp
5/5 for the food, service, and location. This coffee shop is so great! And it's nice because I feel like it brings the neighborhood together. The staff is so nice here and they offer amazing pastries. I got the Iced Chai Latte with a pastry and it was delightful. It was a perfect breakfast after running multiple errands. Parking is street parking all around, and it's easy to find this place after walking. Great drinks, great people, will definitely stop by again if i'm in the area!

Suki L.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem! Lots of cool crafts and items to browse while you're waiting for your drink. Fun pastries and solid coffee.

Naomi Y.

Yelp
I ordered cappuccino here and tasted cleaner... I couldn't go back to get a new one because I was already far away from the place. Hope they can improve how they make coffee. I will come back anyway! The place is nice:))
google avatar

Yelp
Small coffee shop with lots to offer! The five star reviews of this place speaks for itself once you walk into the door. The staff was extremely welcoming. Stellar service! They have suggestions on what to get and allowed us to sample the coffee. I got the matcha latte with oat milk. They use a good quality matcha that is ceremonial grade. My bf got a hot vanilla latte with oatmilk. We also wanted to try the Thai iced coffee but unfortunately wasn't ready at the time of ordering, but when it was ready they gave us a sample to try. They also sell items from small businesses, it was nice to browse the selection. There is no indoor seating but they have some tables and seating outdoors. Overall, awesome little coffee shop. Will probably be back during my stay in SF.

Yelp
I had THE BEST (rose vanilla) chai of my life at Mission Blue while walking the crosstown trail. This isn't an exaggeration. I'm still dreaming about it. I hope to recreate it someday, but until then...Mission Blue is the place to be. It's also a cute spot to wander around and pick up a sticker or souvenir!

Yelp
Shoutout to my galpal Dora (@Dora G.) for putting me onto this cute local neighborhood coffee shop. This coffee shop has a beautfiul and lovely combination of selling yummy Cafe drinks and items from small businesses. I am such an advocate for small businesses as many items tend to be so personable, unique, and creative. From masks, bracelets, stickers, journals, mugs, matcha frothers, scarves, etc...so much is sold here in this tiny coffee shop. It was so hard not to want to buy anything as my friend and I were focusing on just buying a drink then heading to work. Think of it to be like a real life in person Etsy shop but all community based. The staff here are so friendly and kind. It's always a plus for me when you are welcomed by kind staff right away. It's a nice way to start your first interaction of the day and pairing it with buying yummy coffee. The following are what my friends and I have ordered. I believe we all liked our drinks!! *Chaggacino by Renude (Mushroom plant based coffee boost) *Iced Lavender Latte *Iced Horchata Latte Parking is very residential based. The day we went was a morning/work day so parking is fine. I have not yet experienced what parking is like on a weekend. I can not wait to go back. Next time, I still have yet to try the pastries
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
On my continued search for amazing coffee shops while I was in SF, I stumbled upon Mission Blue and boy was I happy that I did. Located in a little street, it was actually a little tough to find street parking. I got lucky both times and didn't have to walk too far. The coffee shop doubles as a small items boutique shop for small businesses with a ton of merchandise to look at. We loved the candles! For coffee they serve Saint Frank Coffee and pastries from Kahnfections. I had to try to the famous Lavender Latte and the Chaggacino, both hot since it's so cold in SF. Both drinks were absolutely amazing and I had to go back another day just to get them again. For pastries, I loved the Matcha Mochi Muffin, Ham & Cheese Croissant but you do need to re-heat them. Overall, this is an absolute gem of a coffee shop and I will definitely be back again whenever I am in the bay.

Yelp
This small cafe nestled in Visitacion Valley is a prime example of what makes San Francisco such a fun city. Not only does this store have solid caffeinated drinks (the Lavender Latte is to die for) but there are a ton of local made goods for sale. This recent trip I only quickly perused all the stickers, clothes and goods the store had to offer, but I'll definitely be back to support some small businesses. Big kudos to the staff of Mission Blue for quality drinks, great service and running a solid business in SF.

Yelp
Visited Mission Blue on a weekday morning around 8:15 AM to grab a coffee and do some work while I was waiting for my car to have its oil changed. When I arrive, there was only one person in front of me and I was able to probably place an order. * cold brew My coffee was ready within a matter of moments and had a clean taste that helped to wire my brain for the day. The shop, itself is small and cute with some seating outdoors. There is Wi-Fi available that you can get by asking the staff and they will provide you with access so I was able to take care of work while I was waiting and enjoying my coffee. The staff were incredibly friendly, and after I had ordered my coffee, I observed a number of additional people come in and interact with the shop and the team as regulars. I could definitely tell that this was a neighborhood joint and definitely had great vibes to it.

Jeff L.

Yelp
I was here during their grand opening! It is great! I drink coffee. Jenny likes coffee. We will come back! Woohooooo! This place helps the neighborhood thrive!

Yelp
Mission Blue is a true gem!! I discovered this spot through Yelp and had to give it a try! I decided to try the lavender latte with oat milk. I was not disappointed! The lavender latte was the perfect sweetness and had real lavender on the cup! Super cute!! The workers are so kind and they truly love what they do! Mission Blue is dope for having cute little trinkets and art for sale! I tried their Thai iced coffee today which was also very good! It wasn't too sweet and the cinnamon on top gave it a nice touch of flavor! I go here once or twice a week since I work close by & I love grabbing a latte for a mid day pick me up :)

Marcia M.

Yelp
The coffee is delicious, the staff is friendly, there's items from local artists to buy, and it's a real meeting place. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be there all the time.

Yelp
Stopped by for some coffee on my wya to the airport. I was a bit skeptical at first because I'm unfamiliar with the area, but Mission Blue did not disappoint. The shop is super cute and had adorable gifts, and the coffee was good. Will definitely come again when I'm back.

Yelp
So thrilled we stopped by this cute and charming cafe. The owner and staff were the sweetest most genuine people. They gave us cute stickers and chocolate. Also! They have delicious gluten free pastries. We cant wait to come back :)

Addie R.

Yelp
The staff is super friendly, the coffee and pastries are delicious, and they have the cutest gifts!

Yelp
One of the easiest 5-star reviews of all time. Here's why: 1) Best coffee in town; 2) Nicest people in town; 3) Leland Ave in Visitation Valley is a gem of a spot - downtown is thriving again, yet it's still not hard to park (by SF standards). 4) As you leave the shop, turn right and you are at the beginning of the beautiful 6-block Vis Valley Greenway - A perfect place to walk or just sit and sip. 5) The owners have improved the community in tangible ways 6) You are buying LOCAL - don't send your $$ to StarBUCK$.
google avatar

Catherine P.

Yelp
They have the best lavender oat cappuccino I've ever had! I also love the local items they sell. Candles being my favorite! Kelly and her staff are amazing and kind! Every Wednesday they save my son a cookie because they know it's his favorite snack

Karina N.

Yelp
service is good but the matcha is SO bad and clumpy. I'm a matcha lover but this was actually horrid
google avatar

Olivia K.

Yelp
This coffee shop is truly a neighborhood gem! It's a great local hangout spot yet also caters to those just visiting. There is always a nice selection of pastries with something for everyone. I also love that they have a special drink menu with unique offerings like rose vanilla cardamon latte. So yummy! They have the cutest souvenirs, chocolates, jewelry, ceramics, kids stuff and so much more! I think the best thing about Mission Blue is their warm, welcoming atmosphere which makes it super family friendly. They take great care of their customers and really do remember you! Bonus is they play nice music and give out treats to doggies :)
google avatar

Yelp
I finally followed the butterflies and it led me here. Local coffee store in the neighborhood that is a true local with tons of cool local artist colabs and works but more importantly Great drip black coffee . There are tons of artisanal drinks hot and cold. There is a beautiful garden next door that is worth checking out. Dog friendly This store is very original and unique reminds me Of a REAL neighborhood coffee shop where they have great coffee and great relationships with customers that turn into a second family. The inside of this location is better than most Noe Valley stores .

Yelp
Neighborhood Coffee Shop Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Delicious Coffee and pastries They host local vendor events and music concert right next door. Cute shopping items. From earrings to Chardonnay candles. Beautiful theme bags. Check Yelp hours before heading there. Too bad they are not open on Sunday.
