Wayne Metro’s Mission Cafe creates opportunities and a welcoming space in New Center | Eater Detroit
"A newly opened cafe that doubles as an incubator for food-based entrepreneurs, Mission Cafe operates inside a newly renovated 5,131-square-foot Wayne Metro welcome center at 7310 Woodward Avenue. Launched by Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency and TechTown Detroit just over a month ago as part of a $1.1 million renovation completed in late 2023, the space features a rotating menu of culturally relevant cuisine, coffee, and a dining area for breakfast and lunch; though open to the public, its customers so far are mainly building office workers and clients served by Wayne Metro. The cafe hosts six rotating vendors, was unveiled at a May 9 celebration attended by Wayne Metro and TechTown leaders and Mayor Mike Duggan, and was designed to make clients feel welcome and served with dignity. As an incubator, vendors don’t pay rent but bring prepared items, staff shifts, and keep the space clean while TechTown provides promotions, sales analysis, coaching, and other business resources. Mission Cafe is currently open Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m." - Serena Maria Daniels
