Mister Fish

I tried Mister Fish for the first time & wow! I can see why it’s been a staple in Lakeland for decades. I got the fried fish dinner with onion rings, mac & cheese, & hush puppies. The fish was perfectly fried, crispy outside & flaky inside. I will definitely be returning & I highly recommend!

You can definitely see there is a change in ownership. Prices have increased and portions have decreased. I don’t think I have ever been to a restaurant where they charge extra for items that normally come with your sandwich. We ordered one large fish sandwich and one chicken sandwich with a side of hush puppies and corner fritters and spent $46. The original fish sandwich had a large fish filet but the new sandwich now comes with 3 frozen fish sticks. They also up charged me $4.19 for 4 small corn fritters. I’m okay with paying for sides, but $1 a corn fritter was crazy. They also charged me 44 cents for a slice of tomato, 44 cents for a piece of lettuce and 70 cents for tartar sauce. She also wanted to charge me 35 cents for ice when I asked her for more ice because the tea they gave me was warm. As a long time fan of Mr. Fish, I think it’s horrible that the new owners have taken advantage of the customers that have supported this business over the years.

On a whim, we stopped by to grab lunch at this place during our visit to Lakeland, FL. I ordered Blackened Redfish, collard greens, and fried okra. My wife ordered a fried fish basket with fries, which came with onion rings. The food was ok and we’d try it again, but probably order something else.

Excellent fish and seafood from a take out window. They have 3 picnic tables in the parking lot to eat your food and it is just half a block to the lake where you can enjoy your food watching the swans. The service was friendly and they leave sweet messages on the drink cups

I've lived close to Mr. Fish for a few years and this is my first time going. I was very satisfied. Their fish sandwiches are amazing. Their hush puppies are great. Their fries are good. The food tastes fresh and service from the employees is amazing. I recommend it to anybody in the local area

This is my first visit at Mister Fish and I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Fried Cod Sandwich basket with slaw and french fries. Best fried fish ever! Fish was moist and flaky; cornmeal batter crispy & not greasy and had a great flavor. Coleslaw was tasty and fries were fresh and crispy. I will definitely be back!

Paid $40 for 2 dinners and hush puppies… a lot of money for not much food. No receipt so I have no idea how much I paid for the hush puppies - menu prices didn’t match what I was charged…we love this place but the prices have gone up too much for us… probably won’t be back.

This is a walk up restaurant with a couple picnic tables. Customers should know that the prices on the menu from Googling are NOT the current prices! They are much higher! So if you are doing a mobile order you will be in for a shock when you pay!

Mr Fish is a long time favorite restaurant for residents of Lakeland, Florida for a really good reason. The consistency of their fish product is rivaled only by large franchise restaurants that operate with an airtight system of product delivery. In the world of politics, you hear people say "is the economy stupid", at Mr Fish" it's the coating and quality of fish." that brings residence and newcomers to the area back over and over. A couple of my favorite items at this restaurant along with the fish are the crispy battered onion rings, and fried okra. If you're in the area and you like great quality, hole in the wall local favorite this is a diamond in the rough. Enjoy..

Local local local. This business has been a Lakeland staple forever!!! The traditional fish sandwich is classic, simple, and tasty! I can't resist a fried okra and these were crispy, YUM. Splurge on the lemonade - sweet and full pulp, you can tell this is fresh! Presentation is underwhelming, but the traditional concept keeps us coming back. This is best as a to-go pickup as the only seating is outside and the parking area is small.

We drive over an hour from nokomis just for their fish sandwich. The corn fitters are great as well! The employees are very nice and food was prepared quickly and served steaming hot.

It was disappointing. Check your order when you pick it up. We did not get our correct orders and they omitted the extra tartar sauce we paid for. Truly not a place we will ever visit again....

I lived in Lakeland for two years in the early 70's and never knew this place was here. Me & Barby went here after doing the Frank Lloyd Wright tour at Florida Southern College. It's not fancy, you order at the window & take out or they have three outside picnic tables with umbrellas. It's all fried fish but they do have some steamed veggies & wraps. I had the crab bites with fried okra & collards. It was all good & the experience is very unique. I especially liked sitting outside in a sunny warm February Monday Presidents Day. Very tiny parking with only 4 spaces. Great view of Lake Morton.

This place is the go to for fried fish, and other seafood plates. The service is quick, and friendly. Not much to say about the environment because it's a small almost stand like feel, but you can definitely eat at bench that they have or a nearby park. Definitely recommend this local staple here in Lakeland.

Hush puppies are excellent!!! Fish covered in corn meal, was in mood for battered. Onion rings and fries are very good, too.

Born and raised in Lakeland, and been coming here my whole life. You can definitely tell the difference since the original owners sold this place. Food quality isn't what it used to be. Prices have gone way up. Watch up for the upcharge for swapping out sides too. Substitute tator tots instead of fries and get charged an extra $1.59, only to be given 6 fkn tator tots! Cole slaw upcharge for $1.59 only to be given like 4oz of Cole slaw and it was warm, not cold. Guess this will be our last time eating there, because it's nothing like it used to be! EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE.

TLDR: I've been here hundreds of times over the last 25+ years, and they have a phenomenal Mr Fish Sandwich and fried okra. Both always come out sizzling hot, crispy, and perfectly flavored. I now live in California, yet still manage to get a couple of Mr Fish sandwiches in per year - I swing by every time I re-enter town off I-4 or on my way out to the airport . Food: My staples are the Mr Fish sandwich with everything on it (ketchup, mustard, onion, pickle) with lettuce and tomato plus a side of okra. I also like the cheesy grits and cole slaw. They always have made the sandwiches by order so they come out exceptionally hot, fresh, and crispy. The fish is always flakey and light in flavor. Service: They've always been so friendly, welcoming, and laid back. Back in the 1990s and 2000s, there was a different lady who was the owner, and she was so down to earth and sweet. I think it's under new management, and they are just as friendly and reliable. Location/Atmosphere: I love their placement right next to the library with a view of Lake Morton. Back when I was younger, once we wrapped up at the library or museum, we'd swing by for sandwiches and eat them by the lake. A perfect afternoon!

Friendly people. Quick pickup for our order. It's "a plate of tan food" to quote a friend. Tasty, but obviously the fish, clams, fries, corn fritters, hush puppies, tater tots are from the freezer. This isn't the place for fresh seafood. Beware if you order from their online menu that the prices are avg $4.00 more per item than it says. We were surprised when our 5 lunches came to $80. Order ketchup (didn't come with) & extra sauces ($).

My sister in laws, from Michigan, stopped in Thursday the 20th and they said the fish was outstanding! They highly recommend it! Michelle was so kind and went above and beyond during her busy lunch hour to help them with their GPS. Please try Mr Fish! You will not be disappointed!!!

Okay, there's NO ambience here. It's picnic tables in a parking lot. But they've been cranking out delicious cornmeal crusted fish sandwiches since the 70's. This is my kids' favorite restaurant in Lakeland.

Mister Fish has been in business since the 70's. All the food is good but the large fish sandwich with cheese is the best. Have it the old fashion way which is mustard, onion, pickle and ketchup. To speed things along call in your order!

Pipping hot food at reasonable cost. Fish and chips with a meal breading the fish an chips were mighty fine. The birds walking around the parking lot are a treat too.

Best fish in Lakeland! I tell people about this place often if fish comes up! If I had to recommend a place for people to try when visiting Lakeland, this place definitely makes the list!

Wow I love this place! We have stopped by multiple times and every time it is great. We have even just stopped for drinks and sides. Everything is fried, but perfectly cooked and with a great batter. Don't let this place scare you by its size. Place an order and enjoy a picnic of great seafood.

Simple local joint with no frills fried fish sandwiches. Sam and I love to stop by after a walk around town. Located across from the Lakeland public library and off of lake Morton it's a perfect place to grab lunch.

Mister Fish is located near Lake Morton, the original location for 20 plus years. It's not often that I eat fried food. However when I'm in Lakeland and craving fried fish, Mister Fish is definitely my go-to place. Mister Fish is highly known for the Fish baskets, however, Mister offers Chicken sandwiches, Shrimp baskets, Phillip cheesesteak subs, Chicken Phillip cheese subs, Burgers, Grilled fish, A large selection of side orders. Pros: Friendly staff, moderate prices Tip: Call in your order, especially during lunch hrs :)

A place on the corner! Super friendly right from the start. This was my first visit and won't be my last. You have an old school walk up window to order from and a few picnic tables to sit. This is definitely a locals spot. They suggested the "Large Famous Mister Fish". Enjoy

It's always has great food consistently. Best fish sandwich in Polk County. Family owned and operated. If your close to the library I recommend to stop by get some fish it is the best in Polk County.

First time here and got Shrimp. Amazingly delicious. Will definitely be back to try to the Fish. With the shrimp dinner which came with 7 large pieces of fried shrimp, 3 onion rings, 3 hush puppies, and a large handful of your traditional steak fries. The sides tasted okay, but none of them were very impressive. The hush puppies were the best, but still a little dry for my preference. I got extra cocktail sauce which I needed every drop of for the shrimp. Unless you are just a light dipper then one should probably be fine. Also, I called in my order and they said it would be ready in 5-10 minutes, so I flew out the door and got there just as they were calling my name. Can't be that promptness.

Pros: the best fish sandwich in Lakeland! We love to stop by and pick up fish sandwiches before parking in the shade and watching all the swans and ducks swimming across Lake Morton. Mister Fish also has delicious sides to accommodate your entree like greens, cheesy grits and baked beans (to name a few). The entree portion sizes are generous too! They also serve up other seafood options like grilled tilapia and shrimp and there's land lover options like Philly cheesesteaks. Cons: the parking lot is small and fills up fast! There are only two or three picnic tables outside to eat at, so no indoor options at all. Be prepared for take out. It's also a happening little spot so there may be a wait. Trust me, it's worth it-- and call ahead orders are always welcome.

Great fish sandwiches! I get my fully loaded with all the fixings and I add tartar sauce. Yummy!

I'm scared to give this review because I want this to remain a hidden gem but I know that's selfish :) This is one of my favorite places in Lakeland to get a quick bite. Everything is always fresh and reasonably priced. Business is always bumping but there is adequate outdoor seating and the staff is attentive and never slows down. What got me this last time was an elderly woman drove into the parking lot and the worker came out to her car and took her order. Even though he had other patrons there he wanted to make sure this woman was served. I thought this was really nice and worth mentioning.

Just shared the best fast food fish sandwich in a very long time. LOVE the bun and the unique combo of flavored condiments.

Have been wanting to try this local icon for a long time. Not at all disappointed. The guy who took our order was patient and helpful. He suggested I order the fish and chips boat since I did not want bread. Hubby ordered Mr. Fish basket which came with fries and cole slaw. Everything was cooked fresh and came out hot. The fish was tender and delicious. The fries were done just right. He remembered the fresh lemon I requested. The cole slaw was really tasty and fresh. I even got a dollar drink with my meal. Sat on the outdoor benches and enjoyed the Florida sunshine and the view if Lake Morton. All this for under $20!

We had been wanting to try this place and were waiting for the perfect sunny day to come and be able to take our food over to the tables by Lake Morton. There happened to be a funny little duck who was loitering around the line, trying to nibble peoples toes, which was entertaining! Our food was as good as we had heard it would be- the sauces were awesome and the tea was really fresh! 10/10 we will be doing this again- so nice to get your hot fresh food and eat it watching the birds on the lake!

Fantastic fish and chips. Nice people. The location is nice during the cooler months prices are OK would I recommend yes you can find some thing for everyone there. Perk is they are next to the lake where the swans of Lakeland are.

Mister fish is a cute little dive, walk up only spot, near downtown Lakeland. We took our hot fish sandwiches to a picnic table by the lake. Food was fresh and hot. We had fries to accompany the sandwiches. Good food! The parking is sparse so park at first available on the block.

I love this place so much! Affordable and very good food! This is my second time here and they do not disappoint. I ordered the fish sandwich, fried chicken sandwich (not pictured) and fish & chips. Everything was delicious! The fries and the coleslaw were good as well. I called to pick up my order. There are several parking spots and a couple of chairs/tables outside if you want to eat it there.

I am out in this neck of the woods for work and decide to give the highest rated fish spot a try. It lived up to every single review. The fish basket was delicious. Fish was cooked and breaded to perfection, the cole slaw was awesome, and the cheese grits were in incredible. I highly recommend Mister Fish to anyone who loves great food!

Today was my first time ordering here. I ordered delivery through UberEats. OMG. I am totally beyond impressed. The food was DELICIOUS and a GREAT value for the amount we received. And the topper to the experience was the handwritten "thank you" with a heart on the box. That REALLY says a lot about the business when they take the time to add that special touch. Definitely getting my business again.

This was an interesting experience and our 1st timing dining out as a newbie to the area. It's a walk up restaurant with outdoor seating. The employees were nice and the tables were clean. My sister and I enjoyed the company of some ibis who were hoping for a hand out. I would say that the food is above average, but this place is not going to give a fish camp a run for their money. If you have a hankering for seafood on a short lunch break, this could be the answer. As a fun lunch spot on a nice day, this is a great option.

This is a wonderful restaurant kid-friendly, has great prices, and always has hot food. I go here pretty often because it is close to the public library so it is a great place to pick up lunch and keep moving. This restaurant has the best fish ever I give it a 10 out of 10

The most amazing fish sandwich I had in my life! The fish is so crispy and flavorful. I ordered the large sandwich and I got it exactly how they suggested. This was my First time visiting Lakeland so I was informed to try this place by a local. I was thoroughly impressed. Besides the awesome view of Lake Morton as I awaited my food, I enjoyed every bite of my meal. I went back twice during my 3 day trip.

Awesome. Pure Awesome. Do yourself a favor and next time you drive between Orlando and Tampa drive 15 minutes off I-4 and get yourself a delicious fish (or chicken!) sandwich. The details - BIG fried fish or fried chicken sandwiches with a breading that might be made of crack its so good. Really no grease to speak of and very fresh toppings. Do yourself a favor and get it with everything on it.. its a bit weird to have both Ketchup and Mustard on a fried fish sandwich but it works. Tater tots and a deliciously peppery coleslaw round out the meal. Cherry soda is fun as a drink and they also have great freshly brewed tea. The only downside is there is really no seating at all... its basically a small window with a couple of benches on the side to sit while you wait for your food. There is a beautiful lake very close you can sit at if the weather is nice. No restrooms either and I would recommend using a GPS to get here - its a pretty random somewhat residential area. Mr. Fish - its awesome.

this is my second time eating from here. The first time was a couple of years to go and sat and ate at the picnic table. awesome food, huge portions. today I ordered using bite squad and got the shrimp dinner and added clam strips. OMG it's awesome. Arrived hot and fresh!!!

This is the famous seafood place in lakeland, it's tucked away. Not many people know about it, I've yet to have one bad experience. It's always amazing, they cook it right after you order. Piping hot!!! Mister Fish was also in a movie starring a famous actor, I can't remember his name ‍ If you're looking for a great fish sandwich and corn nuggets, upon many other options, this is your place!

Hadn't been to this place in years but the fish had always been great, so I decided to give it a try tonight. I was gravely disappointed with the fish dinner. One piece of fish was as flat as a pancake with absolutely no taste except for grease. The dinner came with 3 measly onion rings, 3 hush puppies and fries. I asked to substitute cole slaw for fries and was told there was a 75 cent up charge for that. The girl at the counter wasn't too friendly either. The meal was mediocre at best. I won't be back.
