Full disclosure: I was here on a chaotic Saturday afternoon for a pre-wedding brunch where we had the entire place booked out with a curated menu. Despite the logistical challenge of catering to a large, celebratory group, Mistora executed with sophistication.
The ambiance is perfect for a neighborhood spot--small-to-medium in size, intimate, well-appointed, with the seating flowing naturally around the central bar. It's the kind of place you feel comfortable dropping into, but where the food delivers a truly elevated experience.
I started with the Caramelized Brussels Sprouts. If you're usually indifferent to vegetables, prepare to be converted. They were roasted impeccably--crisp edges, sweet char, coated in a stunning honey and balsamic glaze. The addition of red pepper flakes and grated Parmesan provided a necessary, savory depth. It was, quite simply, an A-tier appetizer.
For the main course, I opted for the Braised Bone-In Short Rib. This is where Mistora truly showcases its culinary intent. The ribs were slow-braised in a rich combination of red wine, beef broth, and fresh thyme, resulting in melt-off-the-bone tenderness. Served alongside were garlic-infused purple sweet potatoes and a mix of expertly sautéed carrots, celery, and onions, all finished with a creamy thyme sauce. The flavor profile was deep, comforting, and exactly what I look for in a serious entree.
Now, for the one critique: the short rib arrived cold. Considering the restaurant was handling a fully booked, high-volume private event, I attribute this entirely to the necessary slowdowns of service rather than a kitchen error. The staff was visibly doing their best under pressure. I finished every last bite because the quality and flavor were undeniable, even at a suboptimal temperature. This minor hiccup, likely exclusive to a large private booking, is the only reason this isn't a perfect five-star review.
The bar looks fully capable, mixing cocktails that were flowing smoothly all afternoon.
Mistora is a genuinely exciting addition to the Midtown Atlanta dining scene. They understand flavor, execution, and atmosphere. I'm already planning my next visit on a normal weeknight to see this short rib served piping hot--it deserves it. Go check them out; you won't be disappointed.
