(Last visited 12/21/2022.) Hanging out in Michigan on business and I've always heard great things about Mitchell's Seafood House, so today's the day I take Mom and Dad there to check it out! Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: Having a private parking lot is a huge plus because it takes away the stresses of having to find someplace to park, then paying for it and having to walk further than necessary to get to the restaurant. Once inside you're transported to what feels like the northeast, but like a modernistic version of it. The outside is a standalone brick building, but inside boasts dark tiles, chic nautical themes and lights walls/ceilings that give the space a more open appeal. It wasn't very loud in here at all either. Service: Raj took care of us and they were excellent. There was nothing that we had to ask for. Food: So known for their seafood, I stuck to that exclusively. I started off with the Maine Lobster Bisque. It was deliciously smooth, flavorful and creamy, but was missing chunks of lobster which I have seen in almost every other lobster bisque that I've had. No big deal. For my entree I went with the Dynamic Duo which consists of a stuffed lobster tail, grilled BBQ shrimp, asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. The presentation wasn't the best, but the food was pretty good. I loved the fact that they bring a device to the table that allows the butter for the lobster to be set on top of a small flame to keep it from congealing. I had never seen anything like that before! The food was delicious! Shrimp felt a little overcooked though. Value: At the time my soup was $10.90 and my entree was $42.00. Now, the soup is $11.50 and the Dynamic Duo is no longer offered according to their online menu. Naturally, this is a seafood restaurant and it's going to be expensive. Bring the wallet for sure. Lol. In conclusion, I liked this place and can understand the hype for sure. Would I come back? Sure! It wouldn't be my choice, but I'd have no problem joining someone else if they wanted to check it out. Thank you for reading.

I took my family to Mitchell’s Fish Market to celebrate my wife's birthday, and everything was excellent. The food was fresh and delicious, and the service stood out—our server was both professional and very attentive. We all had a great evening and would definitely come back again. A great place for a special dinner!

Very noisy, overpriced, cooks don't de-vein the shrimp? I shouldn't have to do that with a $39 dish. Shanghai seafood sampler was minimal. 3 pieces of shrimp, 3 scallops and an overcooked, small piece of salmon on a plop of spinach. Ponzu sauce wasn't the best. Crab cake appetizer was a disappointment. Waitress forgot stuff multiple times, and had to flag her down to check out. Spending the same amount with better food and service at J Alexander or Hyde Park. Go to those ones instead.

I went because I wanted seafood and had a discount- I expected a lot more from this place than I got. They didn’t seem too busy, but I was seated next to a large group of people so the waiter wasn’t really paying attention to me, but I could only complain that I didn’t get as many refills as I wanted as far as the service. Better front of house management would have made a difference in my seating. I don’t like to complain about the food too much in the restaurant, but I did eat it all (almost) however it was not anywhere near fresh seafood. The shrimp was dry and not very tasty, the salmon tasted slightly musty/mildewy, and the crab cake tasted more like a salmon patty. The only thing that made the “crab cake” tolerable was the tartar sauce. The pre-meal sourdough bread had no taste. I added some of the butter that was provided and it didn’t help. I went an extra step further and added some salt to the butter and spread it on the bread and it tasted the same with salt. The saving grace of the entire meal was the mashed potatoes that were under the shrimp and corn salad that was under the crab cake. I considered having a dessert with the dinner, especially since I heard that they made their own ice cream, but it was Spumoni, and it would have been a huge mistake based off the bread. I haven’t had such a bland meal since I ate at a Ponderosa Buffet.

Service with a smile is key and he was just A1 on his Service. Atmosphere on Christmas Eve. Fun, fast with food Service and drinks were great.

Great great great. We visited for the first time on our anniversary last week. We started off with the spinach artichoke dip with lobster and the spicy shrimp appetizers. Both were packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. We've been thinking about the dip everyday since we left. For entrees we ordered two pounds of snow crab legs and two lobster tails. Everything was fresh and seasoned great. The cocktails were also very good, finished off with a creme brulee that packed flavor. Will definetly be back!

We had a lovely dinner there tonight. We got there at 4:00 p.m. So it wasn't busy yet but by the time we left at 6:30 it was pretty packed. Our waitress was very nice and friendly and told us the specials and she had opinions on the best dishes and cocktails which was great. Her service was top notch. The food was also very good. I had twin lobster tails, and my cousin had the seafood boil. Both of these items were on their Memorial day special menu. I wish these were both on the menu permanently because I'd definitely get it again. The lobster tail was very good and so was the seafood boil. Lots of food on the seafood boil. My cousin ended up taking leftovers home. We started with the calamari and it was pretty good. It was a tad bland on first bite and it needed just a tad of salt but that was no problem because I just used the salt on the table. I am not one that normally adds salt to my food, but it needed it. I had the house salad which was very yummy and my cousin had the clam chowder which she thought was delicious. When our meals arrived we were very impressed with them. The flavors were great and the portions were good. The cocktails weren't the strongest but they were pretty good flavorwise. I had a house martini and I think it was a lot of juice in there so the waitress did have them remake it and it came back much better. So just a heads up on that, the cocktails are creative and pretty, but they're also on the sweeter side and not strong. I like that they brought lemon in a hot towel at the end of the meal. I don't know if they do that for every meal but they did with these specials. It's a cute place, it's spacious and I think it could be good for smaller groups. The location is also pretty accessible right off the freeway so it's easy to get to. I'll definitely be back to try other things.

Yelp
Good place for a nice night out for dinner. They have this meal dew for 39$ that had great choices. I ordered the deal with lobster bisque soup, steak tenderloin bites and vanilla crème brûlée. Steak has a nice seasoning to it, but was a small portion I feel. Maybe a bigger piece would have been better in my opinion. The soup was delicious! It has lobster pieces that you could see and taste unlike other places. I'm not a fan of vanilla, but the dessert was really good too. As far as alcohol, I'm not a drinker. However, the did have these wonderful mocktails! This makes me feel important because a lot of places don't have this. They just mix juice and charge you 12$. This was an actual mocktail experience with alcohol free vodka! The Caramel Apple martini was so good, it was the best mocktail I've ever had. 10/10! Our waiter was friendly. He didn't check in on us much, but that's was ok because my guest and I were in deep conversation. I feel the waiter really was respecting that. Overall I really enjoyed this place and will return for the mocktails.

Yelp
Come here for the happy hour and this review is just for that. Came here at 5:30pm on a Friday night, no issue getting a table. We ordered the following items from the happy hour menu: - Spinach & artichoke dip - crispy calamari - Korean BBQ Wings (5 wings came in an order), ended up ordering this 3x - crispy fish sandwich with fries (fries $2 extra) - blackened fish street taco - Spicy Crispy Shrimp - double cheeseburger with fries (fries $2 extra) - 1/2 dozen oysters The bar area was busy, the formal dining area wasn't as busy, but lot of folks were there as well, but yeah, stay in the bar area and enjoy different food options at a very reasonable price. We got the six oysters and crab cakes off the main menu, but outside of that, we ordered off the happy hour menu. Definitely give the double cheeseburger a try, it was our favorite, then the wings, as we ended up ordering that 3x. Each order of the wings come with 5 pieces of wings, but they are pretty big wings. We were happy with the food, the service was bit slow as the waiter was busy with multiple tables, but the food runner made sure we got our food.

Yelp
I've heard nothing but good things about this place. Unfortunately, the first impression was not a good one. After speaking with the manager, she rectified the situation right away. I was pleased with the menu options. I started off with a peach tea lemonade. It was served with fresh mint, which I enjoyed. I ordered the Shanghai seafood sampler. It had shrimp, scallops, and salmon with spinach in ponzu. The sauce made the dish more flavorful. I substituted the sticky rice for mashed potatoes. Although, I feel like I really should have ate it with the rice. I also had the lobster bisque. No complaints. Our waiter was Alex. He was really attentive, friendly, and helpful. I wouldn't mind going back here and giving some other dishes a try.

Bonnie Y.

Yelp
The restaurant is close to my hotel so i decided to go there for happy hour. Their happy hour items looked pretty good, reasonably priced. I got a seat at the bar. Nobody greeted me for a while. When i finally got a bartender's attention, she gave me a glass of water and a menu. I knew what I wanted so I was ready to order but she told me to hold on. She never came back to take my order. Another bartender came and greeted ppl who came after me. Again, nobody took my order. After the second bartender came back to deliver the drinks to ppl next to me, she finally took my drink and food order. I got a moscato white sangria and a spinach and artichoke dip. They were ok. As I was still munching on my chips, the first bartender came and almost took my plate away when I was still eating. My first experience wasn't great overall.

Lisa M.

Yelp
You don't get much bang for your buck. Portions are small, sides are minimal, bread not refilled.

Heather S.

Yelp
This spacious lovely restaurant had great food and good drinks. Service was good and I will be back.

Yelp
what do people see in this place? still yesterday's potatoes, sad looking, dough like mush for crabcake overcooked shrimp one big change: increased prices still have same mgr; why?

Yelp
Phenomenal happy hour specials! This spot was recommended as I was only in town for a short business trip. The Calamari was delicious and it was a nice serving size. The Sangria was just ok, the Martini was spot on.

Jaewoo S.

Yelp
8 of us on a Tuesday 6pm. It was not too busy or too slow. Service was good and fast, sometimes we did not get all of our beer orders so had to remind our server. No biggies though. Appetizers were all delicious. Jump Shrimp Cocktail was huge and good, Crispy Calamari was everyone's favorite and Ahi Tuna Poke Appetizer, as well, was yummy! As this is a fish restaurant, had to get fish. I got Chilean Sea Bass, could choose how it was cooked, grilled or seared, etc. I chose seared and it was fabulous. Very juicy, full of taste and came with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Vegetables were a little dry and probably needed some salt but I was fine with consuming less sodium. The desserts!! We got seven of the different desserts they had. By far, my favorite was the Sharkfin Pie. It's an icecream cake with honey roasted peanuts, fudge, peanut butter and Oreo cookie crust. It was soooo good! Very good restaurant for high quality fish dishes and the atmosphere was perfect for business dining. Attentive server and mistakes were quickly fixed.

Robert R.

Yelp
Everything was exceptional; everything for our anniversary lunch. The chowder was excellent, the presentation and the taste of the ahi tuna bowl were great, with very fresh vegetables, tasty sauce, and fresh and delicious fish. The seafood roll was fresh, tasty and the perfect size. We also enjoyed the shark fin for dessert. Our server Sarah was very nice and helpful. Overall, highly recommend.

Denise C.

Yelp
we found a large piece of plastic in the coleslaw and the manager did NOTHING about it. She didn't offer a free appetizer or even $5.00 off. service was ok but the waiter spent more time with his co-workers. we had to flag him down to order food. other than the plastic, the fish and chips were delicious.

Nick G.

Yelp
I ordered the Walleye blackened which came with redskin mashed and a grilled veggie. The walleye was pretty good but needed a little something more...

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Disappointed. Used to be one of our favorite spots but the last two times the food and service has really gone down hill.

Sabrina H.

Yelp
Haven't been to Mitchell's in over 10 years and I definitely feel like the food quality isn't the same. Calamari was ok, but the Cod wasn't flavorful at all and the potatos tastes like they were warmed up from the day before. Server wasn't really knowledge or willing to accommodate us.

Alisa S.

Yelp
Father's Day dinner was great! Service was awesome. Sat on the covered patio, nice summer breeze. Perfect

Danielle D.

Yelp
A little pricy but I had the calamari and the salmon. Very good. I liked the ambience. It's definitely a step up or 2 from Red Lobster lol. Service was good, no complaints.

Alison B.

Yelp
The food was delish. Our waitress was also a delight which added to the whole experience. Lovely service and lovely seating. I would eat here again. Good seafood, maybe the best seafood you'll get in Livonia Michigan.

D F.

Yelp
Fantastic! The food was great and the service was superb. Well worth the drive, see you soon

Greg B.

Yelp
Went for dinner with my wife...hadn't been in a while as my last visit there was underwhelming. This visit was worse. We both ordered the Mitchell's All In Option which comes with a soup or salad, a main course, and a dessert. We both ordered the clam chowder, which was less than mediocre, my wife got the crab cake & shrimp option...she liked her shrimp but was disappointed in the crab cake. The waiter recommended the chicken parmesan (which I thought was odd for a seafood restaurant) and I took the recommendation...bad recommendation that was poorly prepared. The only thing more disappointing than the food was the service...it took 20 minutes for the soup and another 30 for the main course. I won't be back. J. Alexander is less than a mile from Mitchell's, similarly priced, and never disappoints (they also prepare fish better than anything I've had at Mitchell's).

Suhad T.

Yelp
Food was ok not wow,, was not tasty and bland ,, our server took his sweet time , don't think i will be going there again

Beauty C.

Yelp
The food isn't as favorable as it use to be. The lister Mac and cheese was the best thing, then the pastas but the flavor has left just like the Mac and cheese, so it's a no. Go because you've never been and want to say you've been to Mitchell's. Go because you can always get a Seat on thanksgiving but if you're hungry and use to seasoning, don't do it or take some seasoning in your purse.

Frank B.

Yelp
Had an outstanding evening. Sarah our server was perfect. Drinks came out fast and were very good. Spicy shrimp app. Is a go to. Scallops and risotto were perfect. Ginger salmon was perfect. Dessert is outstanding. This place has turned it around since the remodel. Highly recommend and will be back soon. Just a great experience.

Yelp
While in Detroit, I stayed not too far from this restaurant, before we stopped there we went to another establishment and were denied entry ‍‍ . But I went on my Yelp and told my brother to pick anything off there and we went and he picked here. Walking in we had a dry greeting and asked for a table but when we walked towards the table I said we ain't on a date and we just sat at the bar. The bartender Kurstin was who waited on us and this is how this spot got 5 stars. We asked her what she liked to eat from there and she gave her suggestions and we both chose according to our palate that night. She also said that we won't ever forget her She ain't lie at all, she gave us exemplary service and her 6 years of experience made it that much delectable. When we ordered the food I was just waiting for the fumble to happen because out of town it's hit or miss but not this time. The food was boy only cooked properly but it had a twist that added to the experience. I don't care about my entree but if I only ate the char grilled oysters I would have been satisfied They had them dripping in some type of garlic juice with lemon and I kept sopping it up with the bread and as you can see from my pictures we made it easy for the dishwasher that night. Great place and I can't wait to go back. Kurstin's service was very deserving of her mentioning and I have seen others come in just for her so she is consistent and that's how you treat all customers and not make excuses. If you are ever in the area go here period because I am

Yelp
Food was good, atmosphere was busy, service was excellent, We've been to Mitchell's Fish market in Livonia a few times , I was always happy with food, service, atmosphere, and cleanliness. we arrived for our 5:30 reservation the table or booth I was seated at was not cleaned properly, I could tell a child had sat there before us. Note to management, keep an eye on the bus people they're just as important . No one wants to eat in someone else's mess! I will suggest this place to others. Caesar Salad, Sam Adams Fish & Chips this time in. I do like their food. I am just thinking my bus person was a bad egg rushing through their job.

Tonee S.

Yelp
Solid Seafood! This is one of those places that does a good job abs has a consistent fan base. For good reason. Customer service! They check up in you in a reasonable time and offer good choices for meals and drinks to try. Ambiance: more upscale sea shack vibes. Not super intimate but a step abode casual. Food: Everyone enjoyed their drinks and complimentary bread. Warm, soft, good chew and a light crust. Good butter. My shrimp was over cooked but salmon and scallops were PERFECT!!!! SEAFOOD AMERICANA was solid. Good and flavorful broth. My friend had the pecan crusted trout and really enjoyed it. Good place for seafood lovers!

Liz T.

Yelp
It's been eons since I have been to Mitchell's Fish Market (I don't think Yelp was even around!) and it's as good as it was then. I opted for the lobster tail entrée (we are in Michigan, not many places have good lobster here) and I am so glad that I splurged. It was wonderful, sweet and tasty, with mixed veggies and mashed potatoes. The crispy calamari appetizer was a great start to the meal. Hubby chose the Seafood Americana with sea scallops, Cajun shrimp, spinach, mushrooms, shellfish cream sauce over roasted redskins - he said it tasted as good as anything from the bayou in Louisiana. Our server was attentive, but not overly so. Her recommendations and suggestions made for a really nice evening. I'll try to not let it be eons before I come here again.

Sherri P.

Yelp
We came here in January for our Anniversary and even though we had wonderful service the meal wasn't that great. Everyone has a bad night so decided to try it again last night and it was wonderful. We did sit in the bar area and not the dining room. We feel like this area is more intimate and we like the atmosphere in here better. Manney was our server and he was on top of everything. He made some really good suggestions for dinner and I'm glad we decided to switch it up. We had a wonderful meal and went home happy.

Joe P.

Yelp
My wife and I had lunch there after a shopping trip to a nearby Costco. The restaurant had very few customers on a Tuesday afternoon. We sat in a booth in the bar. The waitress slash bartender was very friendly. We ordered calamari as an appetizer, and it was overcooked to the point that it was like jerky. The friendly bartender was so distracted with other things that we had to shout to gain her attention. The shrimp in my wife's scampi was way overcooked and my plate of blackened tuna was terrible. Suffice it to say that we will never return.

Felicia M.

Yelp
It was OK. Our waiter wasn't as attentive as I was expecting. The potatoes were hard as if it was left overs from the night before. I do like the drink i ordered - Cucumber Lavender. Delicious! All in all, I've had better.

Ray C.

Yelp
We enjoyed wonderful patio dining and had exceptional service provided by Lisa. We both selected the salmon served Asian style. The sesame ginger sauce enhanced this delicious meal. There were five or six ways to select the salmon be prepared as well as several other entrees. This was our first visit to this location and we will return.

Ebenezer's Anni L.

Yelp
Likes to think with the prices on the menu, the food would be at least a couple of rungs up from Red Lobster, but that is not the case. While my dinner companions and I enjoyed our choices, they were just average at best. My Bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp for the price wasn't as good as I have had at RL and there was more bacon and more shrimp there. The sticky rice scoop was as small as a child's size ice cream cone. The lobster bisque soup was not in my top ten either. But the turtle cheesecake is wonderful and worth every penny. Others also spoke of having better elsewhere. The service was spotty in checking on the table. I had wanted to try this, but won't be back for dinner but might try it at lunch since the prices might match the food.

Nicole E.

Yelp
Booked for reservations, put our names in for walk-up. It's about a 40-50 minute wait. It's a bigger location than the one in BHam at least. Manney is waiting on us tonight. He's cool, attentive, filled up drinks and kept our table clean too. A bit of confusion on the HH price for the white sangria since my dad was 5 minutes late to ordering in time for HH. We ordered a Mitchell's house salad with blackened salmon, another house salad with blackened scallops, a New England clam chowder, white sangria, shrimp and chips and a pound of Alaskan king crab legs. The house salad is yummy. The poppy seed dressing is slightly sweet. The blackened scallops are medium size, nicely cooked. I like the pine nuts and the dates too. The salad and salmon was all good. Salmon was nicely cooked, crispy outside. The king crabs were bountiful and tasted good. The clam chowder is creamy, just barely warm. The sour dough is warm and tastes okay. The sangria is refreshing and lovely. The shrimps and fries were so-so. The fries were cold. My dad's entire meal was to hiaverage and less than thrilling to him.

Gustaaf J.

Yelp
This is my go to place for anything seafood related. When you walk in, you feel like you are eating at a coastal restaurant-- great atmosphere. The food matches the setting as well, as it all tastes fresh from the ocean and professionally made. I usually get sick after eating fish, but that's never happened here. The service is also amazing. I can't remember his name (I will get it next time), but this charming elderly man always serves me and my family, and he's one of the best waiters I've ever had. Additionally, if you don't like fish, don't worry! They have a burger too.

Sally G.

Yelp
Being new to the area, my husband had a hankering for seafood. We went to MFM on a Tuesday and were seated right away. The server was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered a salmon Ceasars salad, my husband got lobster. Not many ways to screw up a salad, but his lobster was tough and clearly overcooked. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were told she was unavailable. No mention of offering something else when we expressed our dissatisfaction or even a partial refund. Not sure we will return.

Maddie S.

Yelp
Tyrone Jordan was our server today and he was absolutely incredible!! He had such great energy and truly made our dining experience the best. He recommended certain items for us to try, and every suggestion he had was spot on! Thanks Tyrone!

Margaret P.

Yelp
Kitchen and service talent doesn't match the cuisine and price. It's ok, but I never am the person to choose to go there. Usually something goes wrong- the food is not prepared correctly, they miss an item, and they never offer compensation for serious dining errors.

Andrea C.

Yelp
I'm struggling with my rating. We came here on Easter day for dinner and understandably it was very busy. We were seated about 15 minutes past our reservation time. The server obviously was covering a lot of tables for the service wasn't extremely fast. The food was good but unremarkable. Mitchells fishmarket is part of the Landrys organization and as such it feels like they have one generic menu that covers their restaurants. I don't feel like I can get anything very unique here and it's about the same as if I went to either Gandy dancer in Ann Arbor or maybe up to River crab on the St. Clair River. Don't get me wrong the food is good and on the pricey side. I would just like to see more unique items between the Landry's restaurants. I'm also a huge seafood fan so the bar is set pretty high but rarely is it ever exceeded here.

Yelp
Our waitress was wonderful JUST WANT TO START OUT WITH THAT !! We got there at about 5:45 pm and wanted some happy hour and early dinner. The crunchy shrimp apps are good. In the back of the bar area was a very loud partying group. Doing shots I believe or certainly loud toasts. They were really loud btw. We were not the only ones a little Annoyed. As it turns out, it was all staff ...some still in restaurant clothing..I was blown away...then I got dinner. Fried shrimp: it had turned and was gross. Manager came out and apologized and said" I've sold a bunch already " well. It's a good thing , but mine had turned!! My wife's Caesar was wilted!! And my daughters Chicken Parmesan (?) was clearly under a heat lamp and not fresh. The cheese was not melted but stiff. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS IT USED TO BE. I DO NOT KNOW IF ITS MANAGEMENT OR WHAT, but the quality has dropped precipitously. Laundry still owns it but a really bad experience

Yelp
Alaina was the best server we've had all year and we eat at a variety of restaurants all over the country. great sense of humor, knowledge of the menu and all around fun person. We will request her the next time we dine here in Livonia! Food was fantastic as well!

Yelp
Its still pretty good. You know Mitchells is a long time main stay. It isnt fabulous but its reliably good. If you have a taste for some seafood then it works. My bf just got shrimp and chips and it was good. Served hot. Nice ratio of batter to shrimp. Good. I got Seafood Americano and it was delicious. The sauce is very flavorful. I was very satisfied

Yelp
My salmon didn't taste as good as it cost. Was not impressed. Service was good, but the restaurant was loud, I was expecting a fine dining experience and this is not that.

Yelp
Love lobster bisque It was perfect. Sometimes it is too salty. Enormous titanic wedge salad. Enough for two people. Service great! Great decor. You feel like you are at marina. Will go again.

Yelp
As a vegetarian this place would not be my first choice. However, the food was lovely. I loved their side options as well as their drinks. When we went, my boyfriend and I sat at the bar and the service was excellent.

Yelp
Enjoyed a Sunday lunch here. Service was excellent. Prices are very reasonable, and food was good. Lobster bisque was really good..best I've had in SE Michigan. Friend had Fish and chips and it was great...loved the french fries. I had a lobster and shrimp roll and it was just ok. Too much bread and the seafood mix was not very flavorful. That dish could use a reworking but otherwise everything was good.
