The Best Thai Restaurants in NYC | Eater NY

"Hidden in plain sight just south of Rockefeller Center, Mitr Thai may be one of the city’s glitziest Thai restaurants, with gold trimmings and fancy woodwork. A luxury restaurant specializing in street food, it offers dishes from all over the country, including lots from Bangkok. The shrimp-and-betel fritter is a beachside snack from southern Thailand, a crunchy fried patty with subtle herbal flavors served with a sweet dipping sauce and a pair of fresh betel leaves." - Eater Staff

REVIEW: Mitr and MayRee Are Two New Thai Restaurants in NYC - Eater NY

"Uptown, a block south of Rockefeller Center, at Mitr (Thai for “buddy”) the menu is divided into five categories: Northern, Northeastern, Central, Southern, and Street Food — including hawker food found in Bangkok. Inside, the dining room is deep and high-ceilinged, with white latticed walls suggesting that tropical breezes might soon be passing through. Fanciful basket animals hang above the entranceway. When a friend and I arrived at 6 p.m. one weekday evening, the place was already full despite being open less than a month. We found seats at the bar." - Robert Sietsema

I came here for dinner with my brother because it was nearby and the reviews looked good online. We arrived a little after opening time 5PM and there was already a decent amount of diners inside. However we were still able to get a table with no reservation or wait. They just told us we had an hour and half, which was fine with us. I think our server is new, however she was great, explained the menu, gave some recommendations, and provided great service overall. My brother and I ordered two starters and 2 mains(one for each of us). For the starters we got the chicken skewers and fried roti. We shared those and they were both delicious. The chicken skewers were juicy and tender and the sauce that came with it really enhanced the flavor. The fried roti was also good, we really liked the curry that came with it and even kept it on the table when we finished the roti. For the main course my brother got the beef egg noodle dish and I got the pork bell fried rice dish. The beef in the egg noodle dish is really tender! Almost reminds me of the beef in Taiwaneese beef noodle soup. And the pork belly rice dish I got was really good as well. I even added some of the curry from the roti in it.

Foods were delicious! They had a lot of food and drink options to choose from, the decor of the restaurant was very lovely as well. Aside from the food, the service was exceptional! Our server was so on top of it and even though the place was packed and busy, we didn't wait that long for our food. Our server even offered suggestions on the best way to eat our dishes. Overall, service was stand out for all the staff. Will definitely come back again 😁

My husband and I had the most amazing time at Mitr Thai! From the moment we walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a perfect evening. Our server, Nice (yes thats her name 🤗), was truly exceptional – attentive, kind, and made us feel right at home. We ordered the green curry and the fried pork fried rice, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The curry was rich and flavorful with just the right amount of spice, while the fried rice was perfectly cooked and packed with savory goodness. Everything tasted so fresh and authentic. This place quickly became one of our favorite Thai restaurants, not just for the food, but also for the wonderful service. Thank you, Nice, for making our dining experience so memorable! We’ll definitely be coming back. 🤤😍

I had a great experience at Mitr Thai with my companions. I came with 5 friends and received very quick and good service. The server even offered to take a picture of our group which was very nice. I got the mango sticky rice which I found to be very delicious. A bit pricey for the portion size though. $15 for a relatively small portion. Great atmosphere. My companions also enjoyed their meals.

Google
Really good experience at this restaurant. Our server Brook was very helpful and gracious with explaining the drinks and food (as well as how to pronounce them). The food was also very tasty. Highly recommend! The tables were pretty close together. Did not love that part as it made it awkward at times to speak to staff and passing other people.

Google
Superb thai food. Recurring customer here who came back twice in 2 weeks. I love the flat noodles and soft shell crab. Flavours were on point and my friends enjoyed it too. Highly recommended- will be back again when I visit NYC!

Google
Second visit and just as excellent as the first. After 15 years of regular travel in Thailand, I know Thai food — while the menu is a bit Americanized, the core flavors are authentic and well done. I also love that the menu is organized by region, so you can explore different regional styles easily. Tip: get there early — I arrived just after 6pm and snagged a bar seat, but within 15 minutes the wait jumped to an hour.

Great dining experience. Loved the food, especially the soft shell crab. Kan served our table and was an absolute joy. So friendly, attentive, and helpful. Giving extra stars just for Kan!

Yelp
Mitr had been on my list of Thai restaurants to go to since moving to New York and I honestly was blown away by the experience. The restaurant had a nice ambiance and my friend and I were lucky enough to be seated right next to some really interesting decorations. The menu at Mitr showcases food across the various regions of Thailand and the dishes all sounded amazing so we had to ask the waitress what she recommended. We ended up just ordering everything she recommended which were the Roti Massamun, Goong Muk Prik Klua, and Short Rib Prik Kang. The Roti Massamun was absolutely phenomenal, with the roti itself being a nice soft and pillowy texture that soaked up the aromatic and rich Massamun curry. The curry was so good that we couldn't let a single drop go to waste and so we poured the rest over our white rice that came with the main dishes. The Goong Muk Prik Klua was flash fried shrimp and squid with a spicy dipping sauce. The sauce was really fragrant and genuinely spicy but to be honest, the seasonings and spices used to fry the shellfish were so good that the sauce wasn't even needed much. It went perfectly with the rice and remaining curry to provide a flavor packed bite each time. Rounding out the dishes was the short rib which may have been the star of the show. I was pleasantly surprised by the hefty portion of the dish and the flavor matched the size. The curry sauce was paired really well with the fatty tender rib meat, especially over white rice. Definitely a must try when visiting the restaurant and probably one of the best dishes I've had this year.

Yelp
Today was my first time trying Mitr Thai. They are located conveniently near midtown, only a few steps from major subway lines. I didn't have a reservation here (they have a $30 no show cancellation policy), so decided to do a walk in. When the group initially showed up, they said our wait would be 45 mins. However, they got us seated in under 20! The menu at Mitr Thai is extensive, with each section representing a different cuisine. For appetizers, the group with the Roti Massaman and Mango Avacado Salad. The chicken curry that came with the roti was FILLED with flavor. The roti was flaky and soft. This was a highlight of the night. This was perfectly paired with the Mango Avacado Salad, which was a combination of spicy and sweet. For the main dish, I got the duck salad (Larb Ped). This was a recommendation by our server. I could tell that the duck was good quality, as it wasn't gamey. The flavors, however, were very light and refreshing. I didn't feel like they complimented the duck as well as I would have liked. However, the portion size was very generous. Overall, I had a great night at Mitr Thai. I'd come back here for the appetizers and try a different main next time!

Yelp
I'm used to eating Thai food at small mom and pop shops, so dining in at Mitr Thai was a different, but enjoyable experience. It's an upscale restaurant located in Midtown Manhattan serving cuisine from four different regions of Thailand. First, I highly recommend making reservations. There was a line of people waiting outside before they even opened for dinner. The entire place was steadily getting packed the entire time we were eating. There are two floors for dining, with a full bar on the first floor. The restaurant is beautifully designed with colorful decorations, wall art, and low lighting. Keep in mind that they have a seating limit. The tables are very close together, so if you wanted a quiet and intimate experience, this might not be the right place. The service alone gets 5 stars. Our server was the sweetest! She was knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. She was attentive with clearing out our plates, cleaning our table, refilling drinks, and checking in on us. The menu offers dishes from four regions: North, South, Central, Northeast. I usually order pad thai as a staple dish for my first impression...because how can you mess up a national dish? HOWEVERRRRR, I decided it would be a waste not to try something new because I've never seen so many diverse options before. We picked a few things from each region: *Roti Massaman ($16) - This was my favorite appetizer. The pan fried roti absorbed the flavors of the chicken massaman curry dipping sauce so well. It was so good that I could have eaten the curry by itself, haaaa. *Gai Gor Lae ($15) - The grilled marinated chicken skewers were tender and topped with a red curry paste. I prefer to eat skewers with spicy peanut sauce. The curry was too overwhelming for me. *Khao Pad Nam Prik Kak Moo ($28) - A dish from the central region consisting of crispy pork belly fried rice, chili, garlic, red onion, tamarind sauce, sweet pork belly, boiled egg, pork rind, and fresh vegetables. The flavor profile was sweet, savory, and spicy. I really enjoyed the pork belly, but this isn't something I would order again. *Nam Tok ($34) - A Northeastern dish consisting of grilled cube sirloin with roasted chili rice powder, herbs, mint, red onion, cilantro, thai chili lime dressing, and sticky rice. The sirloin was DELICIOUS and seasoned perfectly- tarty and spicy. I would order this again! *Purple Rice & Coconut Ice Cream - The warmth from the sticky rice + the cold from the ice cream? It hit the spot! They have cocktails and mocktails, but we stuck to the traditional Thai drinks... Thai Iced Tea ($8) and Thai Iced Coffee ($8). Both drinks were perfectly made and tasted exactly how they should- creamy, milky, not overly sweet. I would come back to try other dishes if I'm in the area again. Yes, the price tag is hefty, but you can't be surprised considering it's in midtown.

Yelp
I'm updating my review as I went back recently. Went with my colleagues for lunch and we made reservations. I highly suggest doing that as there were people waiting to be seated. Just note that they won't seat you unless your entire party is with you as well. This place is really large with both upstairs and downstairs seating. The menu has food for everyone, but it will take awhile for your meal to come out. For our meal, we ordered the Kao Soy Gai, Tom Yum Goong, Tom Kha Gai and Keaw Wan. All were quite different so of course we all had different perspectives of our meal. Mine was the egg pancake with clams and that was quite bland. I enjoyed it better last time since I had different food.

Yelp
Nice, quick lunch with my buddies. This is one of my friend's favorite places for lunch (while at work). Items ordered were the Massaman Gai, Krapaw Moo Sub and Krapaw Moo Krob over rice. Having tasted every dish, I can say that everything was very tasty and everything seems to be crafted with real ingredients... as opposed to curry you may get from a "Japanese take-out" when you can tell that curry came from a box. My friend's said we got real lucky that day for the place is usually packed for lunch and there's usually a wait. We were seated right away and food arrived at our table in less than 10 mins. Ideal for those of us who have to rusj back to work. The place has a modern feel and I'd say it is nicely decorated in a simplistic way. Our server was very friendly and attentive. It was a nice experience overall.

Yelp
Walked in as a group of 5 on a Saturday and were seated almost immediately! The place is very spacious, with 2 floors so they can accommodate a lot of people. I came here on a friend's recommendation and was very impressed by the food. Every dish we ordered was delicious! Highly recommend the steak dish as it was my favorite! The service was fast as they have alot of staff. The menu could be kinda overwhelming. The food is divided by region.. not type. There is a large drink selection as well. Will definitely be back here in the future!

Yelp
Love it. Bustling place on a Sunday lunch. Liked the Khao soi chicken, chicken skewers, and seafood special.

Yelp
GO HERE! This place is so fun - their menu is broken up into the four regions of Thailand so we decided to order a menu item from each. All of the food was DELICIOUS. Duck salad, beef noodles, crab fried rice ... YUM! They also have a full bar with fun Thai-inspired drinks. Even though this place is big (two stories), it was packed on a weeknight so be prepared for a wait unless you have a reservation. Service is super quick and efficient. It's also very lively and vibrant.

Yelp
First time customer. Every inch of the restaurant is decorated including the bathrooms. Attention to detail including authentic music through speakers in the bathroom. There are no plain walls here. Food. The portion of main entree are small so it's fitting to order an appetizer. The pisco sour cocktail is beautiful looking and delicious to the last drop. The staff from front door to water filler and waiter are all full of youth and calm. I think I need to return for a second round of food and drinks. I recommend making reservations. We didn't but we're seated at a table with 1.5 hours stay time.

Yelp
Came with a group of four with a reservation but full party had to be present to be seated, so keep that in mind. The restaurant is beautiful and so colorful! The drinks and food was equally beautiful - they were all delicious. Huge fan of the hot pot so I recommend that. Looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
Located near Rockefeller Center, Mitr Thai is a really fantastic spot for checking out quality Thai food in the city! *AMBIANCE* We came here without a reservation on a Sunday evening and had to wait about 35 min, but it's probably recommended to make one since this place gets crowded quickly! *SERVICE* Dishes came out really fast and service was friendly. Our waitress also gave us an overview of the menu from the different regions in Thailand which we found interesting. *FOOD* Roti Massamun - This dish was extremely flavorful. The roti bread was soft and paired nicely with the peanut/chicken curry dipping sauce. You can also add on extra bread if you have a lot of dipping sauce left. Khao Pad Nam Prik Kak Moo - We really enjoyed the crispy pork belly fried rice. The crunch, the chewiness of the pork belly mixed with the fresh veggies was amazing. Overall, definitely wish I had more stomach space to try the different dishes from the other regions! Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is one of those rare places where I am willing to bear insane intestinal distress in the interest of eating what I think is the best Thai place in Manhattan. (My stomach is extremely sensitive to coconut milk etc, so given that a lot of the food here is mixed with that ... you can see what would happen to me ...) It's hard to explain other than I literally enjoyed everything I ordered from the menu .. and I tried to sample as much from the different regional menus they offered on the list. The curry puffs and the beef salad dish was inane, so were the skewers. The noodles were also divine. Honestly there wasn't a single thing I didn't enjoy at all. It was all so perfectly prepared, so flavorful and the service here being totally amazing was just icing on the cake. We came here for lunch on a weekend and it was packed to the gills, so that says a lot about the general consensus of this place. It was a really excellent experience and I would absolutely haul ass back to the city any day to eat here again, stomach cramps be damned.
google avatar

Yelp
Fine dining! Enjoyed this place. Most dishes are above $22. We got these jumbo shrimps which were my fav. With bits of octopus too. A little spice to it too. The noodles with pork we got were good too. Everything was very flavorful. Sat at the bar.

Yelp
Came here with some friends on a Saturday night since we were already hanging out in the area. We got there maybe around 6:30 and there was 45 minute wait. They do take down your number and will text you when the table's ready so we just hung out in the area until then. Once we were told our table was ready, we were seated by our host on the upper level. The menu is a different structure than most Thai places I've been to. They have starters and entrees but they split it up by the regions of Thailand which I found interesting and really liked. For starters, we shared curry puffs and roti with massaman curry. These are excellent. For entrees, we got shrimp pad Thai, beef short ribs (short rib prik kang), egg noodles with braised beef (khao soy kua neur), and an herb and duck salad with sticky rice (larb ped). The shrimp pad Thai had a lot of shrimp which was nice. It was on the saucier side which we enjoyed. The short ribs were very tender and the sauce contains some coconut milk which help cuts the spice if you're sensitive to it. The khao soy flavor was good but the beef was a bit dry. The duck salad was my favorite. It had a huge portion of duck, lots of herbs and red onion for freshness, a chili lime dressing which complimented the duck and herbs with the acidity and spice, and crispy rice powder that added great texture. It was an excellent balance of textures, meat and vegetables along with the side of sticky rice, acidity spice and sweetness. A really perfect dish in my opinion. Service was really nice and I could definitely see myself coming back to try some other dishes since they have a nice size menu!

Yelp
Honestly, hands down, one of the best Thai food experiences of my life! I grew up in the Bay Area and there's no shortage of incredible Thai restaurants, but I heard New York had quite a few as well. We were there visiting in late November, and it was quite cold and nothing sounded more delicious than some piping hot Thai food. I found this restaurant on yelp and saw that it was nearby a lot of popular places to visit so we popped in a little around 1 PM on a Saturday. We didn't have a reservation, but it was all right since we were just two people and we didn't mind waiting. I had to use the restroom as we were waiting and I was guided to one downstairs or three upstairs. I chose the one downstairs, and the bathroom was nicely decorated, smelled great, And had a good lighting. After about only 10 minutes, we were called to a small table and given menus for drinks and food as well as a lunch menu. Our hostess was named Emmy and she was so sweet and friendly! She showed us some of the specials and then left us to ponder the appetizers and drinks. The drinks looked delicious and we saw several tables having them, but we had an iced coffee earlier that morning, and decided to pass on the sugar. For an appetizer, we ordered the roti with the chicken curry sauce. It came out very quickly, and the roti was probably the best I've had in my entire life. Soft, chewy, and buttery! It almost melted in my mouth. The sauce that accompanied it was flavorful, hot, and full of chicken to top on the roti. My husband and I both got noodles. Him the khao soi and me the pad Thai. I know pad Thai is basic AF but for some reason I was really craving it. I'm glad I chose it though because it was saucy and hot and fresh. I finished the whole plate and my husband downed his noodles too. Everything was so gooooood but I especially appreciated Emmy! She was really friendly and just so earnest. I hope she gets recognized for her amazing demeanor. Hopefully will visit again soon!

Yelp
The Thai food was excellent. I got a delivery order of Som Tum Tai (Papaya Salad), Green Curry with Chicken, Phuket Pineapple Fried Rice with Tofu and Vegetables, Curry Puffs, Steamed Vegetables, Goong Muk Prik Klua (Jumbo Shrimp with Squid) and Por Pia Tod (Vegetable Spring Rolls). The stand out dishes included the Goong Muk Prik Klua with jumbo shrimp cooked with the shells on like Chinese salt and pepper shrimp, and soft, moist squid...just delicious. I really enjoyed the green curry with lots of bamboo shoots, eggplant, fresh basil and lots of chicken...nice and thick...great over the rice. A sleeper was the simple curry puffs with a filling of ground chicken, potatoes and onions...a must try. Packing was well done. Delivery was fast. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I was finally able to pay a visit to this busy Thai restaurant, but left with mixed feelings about it. The interior is beautiful and service efficient, but we found the food to be just ok for the price you pay. Roti massamam: amazing curry, but very little roti. Considering that it comes with a $16 price tag, you'd imagine them serving more. Mango avocado salad: refreshing but very little avocado on top and of low quality (it was partially black). Khao pad nam prik kak pot: the only dish we thoroughly enjoyed, although don't expect much meat in the rice. Pad kea mao with duck: disappointing. The noodles were very plain (and I'm not talking about the level of spicing) and the duck, although sizable, was very dry. Overall, we paid almost $120 for an ok meal. Everything was overpriced for what we got. I know the menu has lots of options, but we ordered dishes that were thoroughly recommended by their staff, and found issues with most of them. We have little reason to go back.

Yelp
Had some amazing Thai food @mitrthainyc Their menu is extensive, featuring dishes from all regions of Thailand. It was hard to choose, but here's what we ended up with: 1. Gai Gor Lae (Southern Thailand): Grilled chicken skewers with their house-made paste. Don't miss this! The chicken was incredibly tender and bursting with flavor. 2. SomTum Thai (Northern Thailand): A spicy papaya salad. Perfect for those who love a little heat. 3. Roti Massaman (Southern Thailand): Our favorite appetizer! The flaky roti with the rich peanut massaman curry was divine. 4. Phuket Pineapple Fried Rice (Southern Thailand): A delicious main course that paired perfectly with the green curry. 5. Green Curry (Central Thailand): Equally delicious with both the pineapple fried rice and steamed rice. 6. Lao Khao Jee Cocktail: A unique and interesting toasted sticky rice Old Fashioned. We reserved a table on a Saturday night and were seated immediately on arrival. Our server was knowledgeable and recommended her favorites. We can't wait to return and explore more of their menu!

Yelp
Definitely make a reservation here, as it's extremely crowded (even with reservations, the wait line was out the door and took about 5-10 minutes of waiting upon checking in). Interior is spacious when seated but not for waiting). There's bar seating as well as table seating downstairs and upstairs. Make sure your entire party is there, as they won't seat without, and their 10min grace period is extremely strict. Service was excellent otherwise and very quick, considering the seating wait. Speaking of the wait, it was absolutely worth it. Even items such as the crab fried rice and pad see ew, which are fairly common dishes in Thai cuisine, were elevated and tastier than most other venues. The Thai ice tea was a bit expensive at $8, but I think it was a nice complement to the meal. Our favorite was the Tom yum hot pot. I'm not even a Tom yum person, but it's incredibly flavorful, with a perfect blend of spicy and citrus. While Mitr wasn't easy to get inside (both physically and figuratively), once we were seated, it was an incredible treat. I'd love to go back!

Yelp
If you come here on the weekend, be sure to make reservations. For a party of 8, I gave my credit card info to make the reservation as they understandably will charge a no show fee $50. They also stress that all party must here to be seated as they have a 1.5 hour policy. Nevertheless, the staff were all nice and did not pressure us as anticipated. What makes this restaurant stand out from other Thai places is that they have dishes from all regions of Thailand. Therefore the menu is extensive. The vibe is also comfy and trendy. Their upstair seating is nice and they have unique cocktail and mocktaik options including ones with pandan flavor. On most dishes, they can accommodate the level of spiciness. Expect a pricier and smaller portioned meal than typical Thai restaurants. Our party tried: Crab fried rice $30 (10/10): Love the chunks of crab bites and rice was perfectly seasoned. You can add the sauce on the side to further enhance the taste if you like the sauce flavor. Serving size is for one person. Roti Massaman $17 (9/10): Flaky pan fried pancakes with curry peanut dipping sauce. Love the rich flaky and buttery taste paired with the peanut chicken curry sauce. I just wish the sauce had a thicker consistency. Short Rib Prik Kang $36 (9/10): Falls off the bones and generous portion. Can be shared by two people. SomTum Thai Salad $16 (9/10): shredded green papaya with peanut, long bean, tomato and lime dressing. I enjoyed the refreshing taste. Khao Pad Nam Prik Kak Kak Moo $28 (7/10): Crispy pork belly fried rice. For this dish, if you are looking forward to seeing full crispy pork belly, you will be disappointed. However you do taste some crunchy pork skins mixed in the rice. Krapaw Moo Krob over rice $24 (7/10): Crispy Pork belly over rice with a fried egg on top of the white rice. Unfortunately the best part was the fried egg. Some of the pork belly skin was not crispy. Miamg Pia/Fried Filet Branzino $42 (7/10): This is served as the entire fish but the meat is deboned already and fried. A bit dried inside. Tum Yum Goong Hot Pot $22 (6/10): Creamy shrimp amd lemongrass broth. The broth was delicious but unfortunately the shrimp was over cooked. Phuket Pineapple vegetable fried rice $18 (5/10) - flavor was underwhelming. Surprisingly they did not automatically add gratuity like most places, especially for a large party. If they tweaked some of the dishes, this place would easily be 5 stars in my eyes with their concept, atmosphere, and taste potential.

Yelp
Mitr Thai is one of Manhattan's most popular Thai spots, and for good reason--the food is absolutely delicious. But if you're planning to dine here, be prepared for some strict policies. Reservations are a must, and they won't seat you until your entire party is present. Plus, there's a time limit on how long you can occupy the table, which can make the experience feel rushed. We went for a friend's birthday, and while the delays were partly on us (a couple of friends were running late due to work), it was frustrating that they wouldn't seat us until everyone arrived. To make things trickier, reservations aren't held for more than 15 minutes, so if your group isn't punctual, you'll end up on the waitlist. Lesson learned: only book here if you know everyone will be on time. Another heads-up--they charge a fee for cutting a cake, so we opted to take it outside and celebrate after the meal. I'd give it a 7/10--great food, but go with a group that's organized and punctual to make the most of it!

Yelp
Hits the Thai spot! Visited pre-show on a Tuesday night and it was packed. Our server, Tony, was friendly, attentive and didn't rush us at all. We had the spring rolls with plum sauce, crab fried rice and chicken phad Thai. All were generous portions and came super fresh and hot. The crab fried rice was the hit! I'll have memories of that dish. The phad Thai was good, a tad sweet for me, but a solid choice. I had Thai food beginners with me so I wasn't able to venture out and try some of the more traditional dishes and curry. Next time!

Yelp
We were debating between a few different Thai places in Manhattan, and ended up here due to proximity, and I'm so glad we did! We enjoyed everything about this restaurant and would go back if we lived nearby. I loved the idea of having cuisine from all regions of Thailand represented, which allowed us to try some new dishes. The short rib fell off the bone! On the Pad Mhee Korat, the pork belly was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Both dishes were a good portion size, and they did not skip on the protein. The sticky rice wasn't very sticky, and seemed like the normal rice, but that was a super minor "issue". The restaurant had a cute, trendy but not overdone or fancy aesthetic, and just felt warm and inviting. It was busy inside but not overly loud. Lastly, the staff were all super friendly. We sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with our bartender a bit! We went to a few spots in NYC that didn't live up to the hype, but Mitr Thai was great!

My goodness.....Mithr Thai's ethos on customer service goes above and beyond. This visit was no different and it's always commendable. At every moment of the meal, there is someone either removing a single straw wrapper, refilling your water, or removing dishware. The decor of this restaurant is on the same level as the service. You have to witness it yourself, in order to take it all in. We started with the Gai Gor Lae ( Southern Thai style grilled chicken skewer with red curry. $15.00). The chicken was tender and every piece was nicely covered with the savory curry. We also had the Roti Massaman (Pan-fried roti pastry, peanuts, served with massaman curry dipping sauce. $16.00). Both of these appetizers were very good, but our favorite was the Roti. The entrees were Khao Pad Nam Prik Kak Moo (Crispy pork belly fried rice, chili, garlic, red onion, tamarind sauce, boiled egg, pork rind, and fresh vegetables. $28.00) and Nam Tok (Grilled cube sirloin with roasted chili rice powder, mint, red onion, cilantro with Thai chili lime dressing, sticky rice. $34.00). Both dishes were flavorful, medium spicy, and the portions were so large, that we asked for to-go containers). For dessert, we shared the Bi-Co-Moi (black rice and coconut milk ice cream). This dessert was so creamy, perfectly sweet, and was thoroughly enjoyed. I cannot recommend Mithr Thai, enough, and hope that you'll experience what I just described. Oh....and I'll most definitely return, over and over.

Yelp
Solid Thai restaurant in Manhattan! We ordered 2 dishes to share and both were flavorful. - Pad Thai: 10/10 (fantastic pad thai. Very flavorful and the noodles were perfectly cooked.) - Green curry: 10/10 (fantastic green curry. Loved how the curry was slightly spicy-- definitely an addicting taste!) Service was fast and ambiance was very casual. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area and craving Thai food!!

Yelp
The wait was pretty long, but my party was able to place a reservation before coming. I now know why there was such a long wait! The food was so good and the vibes were immaculate. My party ate family style and it was more than enough serving for the three of us. Not only that, but the drinks were pretty good too! The staff was so patient with us when we were telling them are allergens, and the ambiance is exactly what you expect from this modern thai joint. They had street food and main entrees from different Thai regions. It is a little pricy, but the food and experience was definitely worth it.

Yelp
I've been here twice. There seems to always be a line despite them having two floors of seating. My friend made a reservation for a group of 4 the first time. Second time, I walked in for a group of 3. We were told it'd be a 25 minute wait which was accurate. The interior is pretty and their plate ware somewhat matches the design of the space. Staff is very nice, asking if it's our first time dining with them and providing a menu walkthrough along with suggestions. Their menu shows a map of thailand at the center then the menu items are organized by region so you can see which area of thailand each dish is from. the backside of the menu includes a list of street food which you can also order. 5/5 KanomJeen Numya Phu - this is like a crab curry with noodles. it only comes as medium spicy and they're not able to make it less spicy. this is served in a large bowl with all the ingredients of organized neatly and the crab curry in a smaller bowl nested with everything else. you are supposed to pour the curry over the other ingredients and mix to eat. 4/5 Isaan Classic - chicken was juicy, tasted healthy. The papaya salad it came with had a lot of dressing and the flavor was strong which we liked. 5/5 Short Rib Prik Kang - fall off the bone meat. this was delicious. 4/5 Panda With The "N" - this is a pandan drink with gin. there's some sourness. this is the only drink i remember from my first time dining here. really lovely experience overall because of the attentive staff, beautiful interior and how educational the menu was. the whole thing felt like more than just dining.

Yelp
We were sat upstairs. It was a fun atmosphere. Service was fine, as it was busy. Food was ample and we did it family style in order to try more things! At a pricier restaurant but expected. It's really unique in that it separates the cuisine into regions in Thailand and not many restaurants do that.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on Christmas Eve. We came like 15min before opening and there was already a long line. I was shocked. Thankfully we were able to get seated fairly quickly. But had we been 10-15 min late, we would've had to wait a lot longer because the line kept getting longer. Food here is great. They have a variety of selections, including street food usuals like pad Thai, fried rice, and other common noodle dishes. If you really want the Thai food experience, I recommend staying away from those common dishes and try a variety from their main menu. They did a great job of dividing their menu by different regions and highlighting cuisine specific to each region. I was a little overwhelmed by the menu at first, but our waitress was very informative and helpful. This place has become one of my top 3 best Thai restaurants ever and I look forward to coming here again when I visit NY next time!

Yelp
Wonderful place, great ambience, phenomenal service. Pleasant staff. The food was amazing, one of the best Thai restaurants in NYC, however was sad they didn't have red curry on their menu. Overall wonderful experience definitely visiting again

Yelp
I'm sad I only got blurry pictures of last night's meal but the food here was amazing. Visited on a Friday evening around 8:30 pm and waited about 25 min for a table for two. I was honestly surprised because the line inside for people waiting to be seated was long. Once we got in, there was literally not a single table empty! The place was packed with big groups and couples, etc. The waitress recommended the roti massamum, which is fried roti in peanut sauce with chicken- delicious! We got the Khao Pad Nam Prik Kak Moo (pork belly) and the Short Rib Prik Kang. Generous portions, and delicious! The food came out faster than I expected it and our server was incredibly attentive (which I'm emphasizing because the entire 2nd floor was packed). The menu was basically divided into 4 regions: apps + entrees. I kept telling myself how savory and delicious each plate we ordered was while the flavors were entirely different every time I tasted them. Def recommend the place, I know I will be going back here.

Yelp
One of my fave Thai spots in the city. Every dish is done so well, and the food just hits the spot every time. Service is wonderful as well!

Yelp
Highly recommend reservations as this place gets very crowded. Great Thai food, many options from all different regions of Thailand. The service was so friendly and informative and they were happy to accommodate dietary restrictions. The restaurant is two floors, very pretty, clean bathrooms; The lighting is not too dim and the music is not too loud, so altogether a very enjoyable atmosphere. Everything was delicious, and we will definitely return!

Yelp
I was in town for work and craving some Thai food so I decided to try it out. The vibe here was vibing. I sat at the bar and would recommend making a reservation in advance if you are with someone else since it was pretty busy. It was my first time trying Thai coffee instead of Thai tea and I loved the taste of it. The bartender/waitress was super helpful in making sure everything was to my taste and answering all my questions. The main dish I got was fantastic! It was a curry with noodles and a crunch on top. It had the perfect amount of spice and ratio of sauce to noodle.

Yelp
Pros: + Amazing service - the staff was so patient with us as we were trying to figure out what we wanted to go with + Interesting menu layout - the dishes are divided into different zones in Thailand + Roti Massaman was amazing - I would order an extra Roti to go with it too Cons: - Limited vegetarian options IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

Yelp
We got a reservation for Friday night, and the restaurant was pretty packed. Even despite how busy it was, I felt like our service was very good. There is plenty of waitstaff and they were on top of it. They were friendly and attentive to fill our waters, and also I was very impressed with how fast the food came out. The menu items we tried were the Pad Mhee Korat, the Short Rib Prik Kang, the Kao Soy Gai, and the Pad Thai. My favorites were the Short Rib Prik Kang (definitely a dish to be shared) and the Mhee Korat. I thought the Kao Soy here was a little underwhelming, but it was still solid. I also tried one of their cocktails -- "Panda With The N," which was an interesting drink and I enjoyed it. Overall it was a very pleasant dining experience with good food, and I would come back.

Yelp
The food is yummy and the restaurant is decorated beautifully. However, it's definitely overpriced for the portions that you get. We ordered these three dishes for three people and unfortunately we're not full by the end. The pad se ew was especially a disappointment with the presentation and the portion. My favorite was a branzino. The service also wasn't great as we sat next to a place where the servers go back and forth and sometimes they just stood there right next to our table for a long time. It felts uncomfortable. We also had a reservation but still ended up waiting more than 15 minutes

Yelp
We found Mitr Thai while looking for a Thai restaurant in the Mid-town area. We arrived on a Sunday evening. We didn't have reservations, but they were able to accommodate us after a 10mins wait. It's a pretty large place, there are two levels and nicely decorated. The noise level perfect, you could have an actual conversation without having to yell and they play great music. Mitr has a variety of dishes from the various regions of Thailand, which was lovely and it gave you a quick history of the regions and their foods. I realized that the dishes I usually love are identified as their "Street Foods"... We ordered the Roti Massman Curry Krapraw Moo and Green Curry. It was all delicious! I wish the Roti w/ the Massaman curry wasn't so oily, but other wise it was delish! We also used the left over Massaman Curry to flavor the white rice. The dishes are pretty large, and sufficient for two servings. The dishes are served at a medium spicy level. If you don't like spicy food I suggest you go low or none. Or order a Thai Iced tea to cool down your mouth. If you like spicy food meaning you can eat scotch bonnet level food you can go medium or higher. Regardless of what you get, you wont be disappointed. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Fantastic ambiance and there's plenty of seating. The staff kind of rushes you through to keep things moving - so it's more "fast casual" than the ambiance implies. Basically the same customer management philosophy (high volume x high margin) strategy as Thai Villa (on 5th and 19th st), so I wouldn't come here for a date or anniversary. The menu has novel options, but to calibrate I picked the usual street Thai options (I'll explore the "authentic" options next time. See the pic). The pad kee mao and Thai fried rice tasted pretty much like at any other place. Maybe slightly less greasy though within a reasonable band of variance. The prices were okay.

Yelp
Mitr Thai is one of the best Thai spots I've tried in the city so far. I didn't know what to expect, but walking in, I was surprised by the ambiance of the restaurant. It felt a bit more upscale and the servers/hosts were attentive and helpful. As for food (the most important part), everything was delicious. Our server recommended certain dishes and I'm glad we followed some of those suggestions. One of those dishes was the Short Rib Prik Kang. The meat was so tender, it easily fell off the bone and the sauce went so well with the rice, as did the Phu Nim Karee (soft shell crab curry). The curry puffs as an appetizer did not disappoint as well.

Yelp
Mitr is THE Thai place to take your friends. Great location. Great service and cozy vibes. Good serving sizes for a decent price. And of course, the food does not miss. Mitr truly is the one stop shop for everything Thai. They feature classics such as Pad Thai and SomTum but the true gems are in the seasonal menu. Here, Mitr takes fully creative liberty to chef up a blend of Northern and Southern Thai cuisines. They are curry masters and serve up a different type of curry for almost every dish yet keep each unique and deeply local specialty inspired. I rarely go over each dish separately but I think each of Mitrs dishes are so flavorfully complex and different that they deserve it. Roti Massamun: Crisp and sweet. The rotis are delightfully satisfying; however, the curry sauce takes the spotlight. What appears to be a simple curry dip is actually a chicken curry soup seeping with spices. It's sweet and sour yet retains a subtle spicy and fruity coconut aftertaste. A must get. Pork Fried Rice (seasonal): You've never had pork fried rice quite like this one. Each piece of pork is fried to a crisp crunch which compliments the overall texture of the fried rice. Add some lime juice and chili for extra punch. Tom Yum Goong Hot Pot: Spicy, sweet, and wonderfully sour. Tom Yum Goong represents everything I love about Thai food. The soup is a harmony of spices melting into one another. If that wasn't enough, the extra seafood inside adds an extra layer of umami to accentuate its flavor. This and a bowl of rice tbh. Would have liked it more if the seafood was better but flavor does not miss. Soft-Shell Crab with Curry (seasonal): This is what shrimp chips wishes they could be. The curry this time is more of a dip than a soup but it works well with the deep fried crab. Crunchy and savory, this dish is super fun to share. Pad See Ew (Beef): This one was probably the most standard dish on the list. There's not much crazy going on here ingredient wise but it's still a great dish nevertheless. The noodles are cooked with the beef so the entire dish is coated with a sweet beef flavor. The egg also helps provide a softer texture that compliments the beef well. Skip the line at Thai Diner. Mitr usually has seats open and is better anyways. Oh and please order from seasonal menu, thank me later. 100% coming back here.

Yelp
Great Thai food with a unique menu that's organized based on regions in Thailand. The lunch menu is also reasonably priced for NYC and was generous in portion. I got the Kana Moo Krob and the flavors blended perfectly - the Bee's Water was a great non-alcoholic drink to pair with on a hot summer day. As if the food wasn't enough to get you to come, the interior was spacious and well decorated with top notch service. Would definitely recommend and revisit in the future!

Yelp
Mitr sorts their menu into 4 regions of Thailand, North, Central, Northeast, and South, which means you get to try very authentic foods from each region that may not normally be served in the average Thai restaurant, like Miang Pla. We got the Miang Pla (fried branzino that you make into lettuce wraps) from the North, Tom Yum Goong Hot Pot from Central, Pad Mhee Korat (sauteed rice noodle with pork belly) from Northeast, and Massaman Gai from South, along with some sticky rice with ice cream from dessert. All of the food was beautifully presented and delicious. And the service was great! I called ahead about a half hour before arriving on a busy Saturday night and thankfully they had a table, otherwise it could take a little to get seated depending on the day especially if you don't have a reservation.

Yelp
Wow in a sea of Thai places (nyc) this one stands out! Their menu is split among the different regions to Thailand (along with street food on the back) and everything is delicious! I got the seasonal special duck with 5 spice gravy, and it was so decadent. We got a northern Thai app and an other south Thai dish (shrimp/octopus). So great, with good vibes. Would come back. Though, price is as expected for a modern sitdown place (20 - 35/main dish).

Yelp
This might be one of my new favorite Thai spots in the city! I was looking for a place in midtown for a quick Sunday lunch and this fit the bill perfectly. They accept reservations, but also were able to accommodate a party of 2 walk-in easily. The interior is beautiful! Really nice decor and pretty big with two floors of seating. We sat on the second floor. Our server was super helpful, and when we told her about the peanut allergy, she said that they can remove the peanuts from any of the dishes and to just let her know. We ended up getting the Pad Mhee Korat and the Crab Fried Rice. The Pad Mhee Korat might be one of my favorite Thai dishes in New York- super flavorful thin rice noodles with crispy pork belly and crunchy bean sprouts. The Crab Fried Rice was good- nice chunks of crab with flavorful sauces. We also got a Thai tea (delicious) and the Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. The Mango Sticky Rice was amazing- served with condensed milk sauce and puffed rice. Overall the food is incredible, service is top tier, and there's a lot of space/reservations are chill. What more could you ask for?

Yelp
Mitt Thai is up there if you're expecting good Thai food. The service is wonderful. I like how the menu is split offering choices from different Thai regions. I recommend the soft shell crab curry. The crunch and flavor combined with that curry sauce over rice is to die for. I've tried various versions at other Thai places and this place does it well. I also got the Khao Soi Kua Neua and this one while tasty wasn't mind blowing. The soup curry variation of this - just the standard khao soi- is a lot better. I personally think there's other choices on the menu you can go for over this. Lastly we wrapped it up with coconut ice cream over sticky rice and some jelly on top of a soft bread. I recommend this if you have a sweet tooth. Get this over the mango sticky rice, please remember mangoes can be a hit or miss depending upon the season.

Yelp
This place truly showcases why New York City is a food lover's paradise. I arrived right when it opened at 11 a.m., and it was already filling up fast. It's amazing how a spot can earn such rave reviews, almost like a well-kept secret that the whole city knows about--but I'm here to spill the beans: the food is absolutely phenomenal! Having just returned from Thailand in May, I can confidently say this place could be transported straight to the streets, and the locals would be thrilled. My trick for a great dining experience is to ask the server what's popular and what their personal favorites are. The waiter recommended a number of wonderful dishes. I felt like I was enjoying a 10-course tasting menu with everything I ordered. The cream puffs were divine--just one, but you'll want more, like in that viral TikTok video where the guy says, "Spectacular, I'll take 14 of them." Honestly, give me 14! The shrimp soup was probably my favorite, bursting with flavor. The basil fried rice was everything I hoped for, and my friend's pad Thai was spot-on. I even came back two hours later with another friend, and the waiter joked, "Back so soon?" I replied, "If you have room for a cot, I'll take a nap and help open for dinner!" The drinks were divine, the atmosphere was buzzing, and the staff--from the waiters to the hosts--were an absolute pleasure.
