Tokyo’s Best Speakeasy Bars to Feel the Vibes

"A tea-themed cocktail bar opened in 2017 by renowned mixologist Shuzo Nagumo. Nagumo has deep knowledge about marrying flavors and aromas. His signature cocktails are six types of ‘tea-tail,’ a series of low-alcohol tea cocktails served in wine glasses to appreciate their aroma and long aftertaste. Over time, the multi-layers of flavors and aromas are unveiled, symbolizing light cocktails that suit modern palates." - Kyoko Nakayama

Great experience and very authentic. They prepared their drinks with tea which is something that we can’t experience very easily. I enjoyed all drinks specially the one served in a wood box because each time you drink it you have different flavors and sensations. I strongly recommend it! Sad that we could stayed just for 1 hour.

This cocktail bar is located in a large department store shopping centre. We’d made a reservation in advance as it is pretty small with limited seating. We had the tea tasting experience with 3 cocktails, there are options for 4 or 5 instead. The first cocktail was a G&T with a Tea twist and then we could choose the other 2 cocktails. They were all tasty and enjoyable, especially the martini. I felt the prices were reasonable for the quality of the drinks and the overall experience.

We couldn't get reservations here, but decided to walk-in and they had availability on a Saturday evening. They seated us outside, even though it was almost empty inside. The concept of this place is boozy tea cocktails. We were excited for the tea focus but that part fell short. We tried the 4-cocktails course and could barely taste the tea in any of the cocktails. The drinks were good, just not tea-centric. The people working there weren't friendly, nor did they explain any of the drinks. We went to their sister location, Memento Mori, which focuses on boozy chocolate cocktails and the vibes/service/drinks at MM were so much better.

Cocktails with tea flavors are truly impressive—remarkably smooth to an almost unreal degree. The delicate craftsmanship and intricate flavors leave a lasting impression. The bar has limited seating, so be sure to make a reservation before visiting.

I finally made it to Mixology Salon in Ginza Six—a bar I missed last time because I didn’t make a reservation. This time, I booked a week in advance and snagged a 5 PM slot (not ideal, but hey, we start drinking when we must 😂). The bar’s concept is super cool: every cocktail is tea-based, and each one is crafted so beautifully. I went solo and got a 3-drink tasting set for just 5,700 yen—such a steal! I also treated myself to their seasonal special. Everything was so good. Highly recommend!

We ordered the 5700 yen menu with 3 drinks. Drinks are really great, tea infused, fruity, strong martini. English speaking staff. Overall atmosphere is a bit quiet, wish to have more interaction with staff. Need to book in advanced.

A truly unique cocktail experience in Tokyo! Mixology Salon specializes in tea-infused cocktails, blending traditional Japanese teas with modern mixology. The drinks are beautifully crafted, both in flavor and presentation. A must-visit for cocktail lovers looking for something refined and different. Would recommend getting reservations though as it’s a small bar and takes time to make each drink. I was lucky enough to walk in and grab a seat but went early.

Such a cool spot that combines Japanese tea with thoughtful cocktails. My friend and I got a total of 4 drinks, and all were delicious! Such a cool experience!

Yelp
Got recommendation from friends to go check it out. A great spot located in Ginza 6 on the 13th floor, we walked in around 2pm without a resy and was offered to sit "outside" in the "mall". We would of course rather be at the bar counter watching the prime act of cocktail making (which is a tea focus cocktails) so reservation is a must. Although full disclosure we actually ended up liking another cocktail bar Folklore the best, which is owned by the same restaurant group. Check it out!

Yelp
Cheers to tea infused cocktails! The menu is unique and advanced reservations are a must since seating is limited. I love a good gin and tonic and an espresso martini. I opted to try their tea infused versions. The gin and tonic was herby with a light green tint. The tea was very subtle. The espresso martini was well balanced and delicious. I also tried their Oolong tea-tail no. 2. This was light and fruity. Overall, the drinks were well executed and not boozy. I also had the cheese platter which paired well with my drinks. My favorite was the Japanese tea espresso martini. Instead of a strong coffee taste, the matcha and sencha teas were the highlights of this innovative drink. The place has a minimalist and relaxing vibe. The bartenders were young, friendly men who wore lab coats and ties and enjoyed experimenting with liquors and teas.

Yelp
Tokyo, Ginza. November 2022 Cocktails made with tea-infused spirits in a tiny eight seat minimalist bar on the 13th floor of Ginza Six. Very inviting to ladies who lunch and/or drink. One of the concepts by Nakamura Shuzo, who has other bars in the Hibiya Okuroji under the Yamanote train tracks. If you have no idea where to start, I recommend committing to a tea cocktail course. Currently, they are featuring Gyokuro tea. For the uninitiated, Gyokuro is a shade grown tea generally cultivated from Japanese tea varietals. It is a beautiful dark green with a wonderful scent. The first course is Gyokuro steeped at a low temperature. The resulting first brew is full of umami without any hint of astringency or bitterness. I would liken it to a very delicate dashi made with katsuo and kombu, but the liquid is strictly tea. Eye opening! Next, a second brew combines the tea with Ice wine snd Islay Single Malt. Swirling and successive sups bring new flavors. The peaty smokiness works well. Third, you choose your own tea based cocktail off their menu. Last, you are served Gyokuro, warm. The spent tea leaves are mixed with a smoked soy and oyster sauce and served as an ohitashi vegetable. I have never been served tea leaves as an eating course. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and courteous. It's very easy to walk up and join the fun. Give this place a try.

Yelp
Such a cool bar in the Ginza6 department store. Located on the top floor it's a pretty small place that's packed and you need to make a reservation or you will not be getting in. The drinks were fantastic! If you like tea and want to try some phenomenal tea cocktails you need to go here! They also have a really nice selection of mock tails which was nice and rare in Japan since the nonalcoholic culture at bars is still very lacking. We ordered a cheese plate which was small but really really good. The otoshi (first served snack plate) was really good and included in the cover charge. The fig yokan (Japanese traditional dessert usually not made of fig) was really lovely as well. I tried the wasabi gin which was really really strong but it was a really cool experience and I love wasabi. I think even as a wasabi lover it was a bit too much but I could drink it. The tea espresso martini was probably one of the best cocktails ever! Definitely a new and interesting take on the espresso martini. I think I prefer it in tea form since I'm not a huge coffee drinker. My mom ordered a matcha latte which is not on the menu but they were able to make it anyway. They use single origin very high quality matcha here so the matcha was strong but also tasted great. Highly recommend!

Yelp
A really great cocktail bar on the 13th floor of GINZA SIX, Mixology Salon is a bar focused on tea based cocktails. The Matcha Old Fashion and Sencha Gin & Tonic were our favorites, but all that we tried were terrific. Mixology Salon uses premium spirits -- Zacapa XO rum, Makers Mark -- which it infuses with different tea. Many they put through a distillation process after the infusion. Mixology Salon is in a small space, but it is very nice with a zen feel to it. We will be back!

Yelp
Most bars open at 6pm, but Mixology salon is open from 11am. They're on the 13th floor of Ginza six. The menu focus is tea based cocktails. They also have some small bites. The space is small - 6 seats at the bar with another table for 2 on the side. Outside of the bar, they have some seating, too. Drinks we tried: - Hoji tea tail no 1: milder, light - Four seams no. 6: cool presentation in the square wood box; on the corners, there was yuzu pepper and cardamom marmalade, which changes the flavor of the cocktail in a cool way - Soba Cha cocktail: topped with homemade miso powder - Green tea fashioned: super cool presentation with an ice cube that had angles - looking like an emerald. It was topped with gold flakes None of the drinks was particularly strong. Prices are around ¥1600-1900 a drink plus a cover charge of ¥800 per person, so it's not cheap. It's a cool concept to do all of these unique tea based cocktails, and it's a nice place to take a break with a quiet drink amidst the craziness of shopping in Ginza.

Yelp
Great place for guys to relax with some drinks while the lady goes shopping. They have a unique style where they distill alcohol with tea. So you'll have some cocktails like sencha gin tonic, gyokuro vodka martini, green tea old fashioned, etc. Produced by a world famous bartender and they serve some very photogenic drinks!

Yelp
What an experience! A friend and I stumbled upon this quaint bar while exploring Ginza Six. We were immediately welcomed by a server eager to describe the intricate tea cocktails the bar has to offer. Everything we tried was EPIC...including the banana bread they served with the drinks. Fell in love with the employees as they were excited to share their knowledge about the teas they brewed. Lastly, the bar is perfectly decorated. A must try if you are in the area!
