"While often lauded for its wide range of Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants, the wealth of choices along Southeast 82nd for lovers of Mexican food is almost dizzying — from full-on restaurants to food carts new and old. The Oaxacan Mixteca just north of Division stands out from the pack with complex moles and thick blue corn tortillas. A full bar offers creative cocktails along with bottled and draft beer; horchata and other fun non-alcoholic options are available for non-imbibers. Dine inside or outside on an ample patio with large fire pits." - Janey Wong, Nathan Williams

Google
A family run restaurant serving food from the Oaxaca region of Mexico. A wide ranging menu with tamales, tacos , burritos, and daily specials. I called and ordered pork tamales (chileajo), a chicken mole taco and a red hibiscus drink. The order was ready in about ten minutes. The taco was wrapped in a blue corn tortilla with black beans, rice, chicken and three kinds of sauces were included. It had a good balance of flavors and was very good. The tamales were covered with a red mole sauce and balanced the flavors nicely. A very good tamale and not to spicy. Currently accepting take-out orders with delivery options available. A great place place to eat regional Mexican food with daily specials and a wide range of tamales.

Google
Normally this place is delicious and fresh and most of all flavorful!!! However today i ordered taquitos that comes in a 4 piece but 2 of them were in edible the food looked like someone shook the box and everything was thrown all over the place super disappointed. Whoever prepared this food knew it looked like this and gave it to me anyways. The chicken was dry and I couldn't even eat it! Big let down!!

Google
Woah! I got the special with pork cushion and the hibiscus tea. I might be addicted. My boyfriend got the mole chicken. I've never had mole that I LOVE. We also got chips and salsa. They ran out of horchata, but the incredible quality and taste of the food made up for that. The red salsa was actually spicy and so good. The salsa Verde was just amazing. I love this place. I will be bringing people here as much as I can.

Google
Mixteca is awesome! This chicken burrito was different than most, I think they used the chicken mole in the burrito which is new for me. It added an interesting depth to the burrito and I would eat it again, any day! We also ordered a standard chicken mole plate, but by the time I got it home it didn't look nearly as pretty as the burrito..so no pictures. Everything was really delicious and the staff was really friendly and quick for how busy they were!

Google
We had passed by this place many times, and finally decided to try it. The food was really really good! We had the chicken quesadilla, ceviche, carnitas burrito and tomatillo tamale. Really large filling portions, and nice music in the restaurant. There is water at the table which is nice to serve yourself. We will be back!

Google
I have only been to their station at the Montavilla Farmers Market. The food I had was fantastic. I never thought I liked Tamales but their tamales are SO good. My favorite is the Popeye Tamale it's vegetarian and has spinach, it's delicious smothered in salsa Verde. One of these days I will check out the brick and mortar restaurant.

Google
I was disappointed, i asked about thier Flor De Calabasas Quesadilla, to which they do not add EPAZOTE! apparently other guest have asked about it too and the answer is "the owner said it's her restaurant and will not be using as part of the recipe " In conclusion, if you want authentic Oaxacan food go somewhere else.

Google
This was delicious. The mole was great, the tamal.was great, it was all great. Oaxacan food is super good.

Yelp
Maa-a-aan, I really don't like doing reviews like this, but, especially considering the stellar ratings, I feel like I have to say ... something. I had the Costillas de Puerco and she had the Tamal Oaxaceño plus chips and salsa. You can tell from the order, we were jazzed at the idea of some real Oaxacan mole! Her dish had the mole negro and mine was more a mole coloradito. Things were looking pretty good during unpacking, really attractive... looking. Unfortunately, the dishes were only barely above room temperature. I know that some folks believe mole should be served warm, not hot, let's say 140F. Nick at Mi Mero Mole was a proponent. But this was more like 100, not a food safe temperature. Nonetheless, we dived in and hopefully will not regret it ;) We were hoping for mole redolent of fruits, nuts and spices we had never tasted before, ... but what we got was only different from store-bought by being a bit more hot, not face-melting, but reasonably hot, enough to make me sniffly. My ribs were tough, not slow cooked until fork tender at all. Her tamale didn't even meet the quality of street tamales bought from abuelas pulling coolers down the streets of Houston, such a disappointment. It's not bad food, it's just average, average, average. For us at least, why bother, better Mexican food is readily available, including better mole, or just get some La Costeña or Doña Maria mole sauce at the store, but try to simmer things for a few hours at least, covered in the oven or in a slow cooker, adding the mole an hour or hour and a half before serving and making sure the meat is falling off the bone tender.

Yelp
Stop reading reviews! Just start heading there! This is the place to grab all your Mexican food crave fixed. Not only it's affordable but was also tasty! You must try their rotating drinks. When I was there, they had watermelon juice and pineapple mango juice. Let me tell you, the watermelon juice was so good that I forgot to take a picture of it. One last thing, it comes with unlimited chips and salsa! Vibe: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 Value: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Parking: 5/5

Yelp
Yes yes yes yeah! Look at this gem hidden away. It was a cute authentic vibe going hard!! And a friendly staff right off the bat! Came in hitting hard for some street tacos and these bois are stuffed! I mean, stuffed TF up yall. Their guac would make an avocado blush, they kept that citrus going strong just the way it should be. We went all the meats, Pollo (marinated) al pastor, carnitas, and Carne asada. I would rank them as always, al pastor being the king . I saw alot of things on the menu that looked fun, and untraditional and traditional greatness, I mean a legit pizza-ish thing?! Come in, try it out, dig it.

Mary D.

Yelp
Love Mixteca. Everything about it. They have the most friendly staff, and the freshest ingredients, I come here with large parties or take out, and I always am happy this place has the best Mole, the best chips, and the most amazing Mexican dishes found anywhere in Oregon.

Amanda M.

Yelp
I saw Mixteca have a stand at the South Waterfront Farmers Market. I gave it a try with their tamal plate. I got the Tamal Oaxaqueno, which is topped with their homemade mole sauce. For $11, there's a good portion of food. The tamale is really big and nicely packed with meat. The Mexican rice and beans were ok, the salad gave some relief from the heaviness of the rest of the meal. It's pretty filling too since there's a lot of masa, rice and beans. The food is decent.

Mark M.

Yelp
Liked everything we've tried here. It's inexpensive, has a lot of flavor, and is one of the few restaurants ive found that makes good pozole

Kris B.

Yelp
Great service! Atmosphere enjoyable. It seems a overpriced at first, but when you get your plate you can see most of it is lorth the price. The food is fresh and the portions are large. We took half our food home and ate the next day. The only complaints: 1. They charge $3.50 for a can of soda or a bottle of soda, not a specialty soda. Coke and diet coke. It's a little ridiculous since there aren't any refills. Definitely overpriced drinks. However, we would definitely go again and not order sodas. 2. The chicken burrito bowl with absolutely yummy, but there was scarcely any chicken in it. If you're going to get a rice and bean breathable it should be a lot less money. Had they put a reasonable amount of chicken in the bowl It would have been worth it, but I literally had to search for the chicken and the pieces were tiny. I would estimate maybe a fourth of a cup of chicken in that whole bowl. Maybe they were short that night and that's not normal ly the case Two meals, no alcohol, a side of guacamole, with tip was over $60.00. (to give you an idea of pricing).

Yelp
Came here on February 26th for dinner with my family (10 people). Unfortunately, our experience was less-than-subpar. The service was terrible, to say the least. We all ordered at the same time but only a handful of us actually got our food on time. The rest of my family was stuck waiting 40+ minutes to get their food, which came after everyone else had already eaten. There was only 1 cook in the kitchen, which made sense as to why the food was coming to our table at such a snail pace. I had ordered the chicken tamale plate, which *supposedly* came with beans and rice on the side. However, when my plate came to the table, it looked extremely sad with only the one tamale and some little shreds of cabbage on the side. No rice and beans, as advertised! I had to ask the server for the beans and rice, which came promptly after but tasted terrible. The rice was hard and undercooked, and the beans came straight from a tin can (I would know as the beans weren't drained and still had the nasty liquid on it). For $14, I was absolutely not happy with what I'd received. I asked the server to take it back, as I didn't want to finish it. I didn't even want to order a different dish, as I knew it would take forever to get it! My family and I also ordered 4 shots of Hornitos as soon as we were seated at our table, which took all of 25+ minutes to get. It was pretty disappointing, as the restaurant was not full of patrons. It definitely doesn't take that much time to pour 4 shots of tequila. On a positive note, I will say, the variety of different salsas/sauces were great and very tasty! Tony, our server, was apologetic in regard to the slow service and with the dish that I had sent back. Overall; I would not recommend this place. It's unfortunate, as I really wanted this to be a more positive experience and had some high hopes.

Yelp
Yo holy shit if you're a chilaquiles fan like I am this place is a must! Absolutely amazing and friendly service from gatti my man working the front and absolutely amazing cooking from these guys/ lady's In the back!

Yelp
Wait, so I can get authentic/traditional Oaxacan food AND have plenty of plant-based options? I knew it wasn't impossible. First and foremost, this joint is run by the NICEST people. From the abuelita cooking in the back to family working up front, everyone here is just genuinely, authentically nice. The food? It's great. Mole is their specialty and while their main attraction, the mole negro, is not plant-0based, I've tried it, and it's incredible. They do offer mole rojo that's vegan and delicious, and I just had a special there with mole amarillo, which was vegan as well. The other plant-based items on their menu include tlayudas (Mexican pizza, essentially), potato taquitos, tamales, rice, beans, and a variety of other options. Pretty much the whole menu is gluten free. And really, there's just a lot for everyone here (including plenty of meat for the carnivores). Beyond just the food, they have a respectable drink program (if you would dare to call it that) - top shelf booze, good mezcal selection, and drinks made with quality ingredients including fresh juices. Their margs are hands-down delicious, especially when they drop a little mezcal in. They just started doing mezcal tasting nights on Tuesdays - flights and special cocktails. Oh, and the bartender? Super nice guy! The space itself is fairly no-frills. It's the old Buckley's Catch (such a weird ass bar) space that has undergone quite the facelift. They built a patio outside which is nice but it's a little loud right on 82nd. But still great to be able to sit outside. Inside are a few tables as well. And you're likely to end up in conversation with at least one other table because, well, nice people attract other nice people. It feels like aa neighborhood joint, but all are welcome. Stop in for a giant frosty mug of Modelo, a shot of mezcal, and something... anything... covered in mole. Don't sleep on this gem.

Yelp
All the meats were on point. Asada, al pastor and chicken were so good. I had tacos. Only $2.50/per. So full. Brought one whole delicious taco home. Zero fat/gristle. Great flavor. Margarita was legit too and guacamole. Mixteca doesn't seem to miss. Corn tortillas, my favorire compared to anywhere.

Michael V.

Yelp
I went here to redeem a Living Social coupon and I was very impressed with their food. They were having some issues with a recent break in at their business so it was a little chaotic from a service prospective but they were trying really hard. We got their signature mole negro oaxaqueno dish and a mini tlayuda. Both were fantastic and full of authentic flavors and spices. If you are tired of texmex then go try this place and you will be happily surprised. I give it four stars because of the chaotic service but I would drop by again for the food.

Mr. H.

Yelp
I like about this place it's not pretentious, but down home cooking from the region in Mexico using different spices. Totally different than what the American pallet expects. The place could use a deep clean, but I don't think it's all that bad. When I need a quick lunch I go for the street tacos! The meat is generally good and flavorful. Tamales are good if you are looking for a change. If you want a hardy soup, the staff is very friendly. Awesome food!

Andrew A.

Yelp
Mole is the game here, they offer different variations of it, and it's very good. This was the first time I had Picaditas, on blue corn tortillas no less, me like it. A minor disappointment is that chips and salsa weren't free. This crappy trend is prevalent with Americanized Mexican food places, but I never experienced it at an "authentic" restaurant. Oh well, focus on that P and L. Salsa is limited to boring spicy red and mild green, they also carry the bottled regulars. Breakfast Burrito with al pastor = excellent. The scrambled egg pieces, jalapeños (or maybe it was guacamole) and tomatoes are nice and small. It's juicy and the tortilla is soft and grilled. Size isn't huge like at some of the carts, but still decent. The enchilada plate was full of flavor and portion. They offer three sauces, so get one of each. You also get your choice of filling, the gooey cheese makes it my favorite. The rice and cabbage were good, but I prefer refried over black beans, but they don't offer the former. I was initially disappointed that they filled the churros with fruit compote, but warm any churro and it's usually very good. Be sure to sub the cheap Reddi-Wip with ice cream. Plenty of seating, table service, and easy parking. Service was friendly, but slow and inattentive (they were filling a gigantic togo order.) They're located across from PCC, but at 11:30 a.m. there was only one other customer.

Jo V.

Yelp
Yeah, now Mixteca is serving margaritas! Taquitos were huge and delicious. Margaritas spot on, tasty and effective. Hubby had the caldo de res which he really enjoyed. Will be back during happy hour when drinks are $2 off. Update: had the same taquitos, overcooked hard chicken, not remedied by the oddles of sauce. Tasted like refried from day before, Inconsistent.

Yelp
After traveling to Mexico City and being introduced to Oaxacan cheese and Tlayudas, this was the place to get both, while still getting to stay in town. This used to be a cart at the Portland Mercado on Foster St., and just opened this location a couple of months ago. I finally went in to try it, and it was really, really good! The girl working there was so sweet and helpful, and did her best to get our orders in as fast as possible. We ordered a side of chips to snack on before our food came out, and they came with a green salsa, and a mole sauce. The mole sauce was addicting-a little spicy but not too much, thick, and unique. It was great to pair with our chips, because not a lot of places have this option for you. Our party ordered tacos, and when they came out, they were definitely bigger than what we were expecting. They're stuffed with so much, that it was hard to close to get a bite in. We thought those were big, so we were NOT expecting the Tlayuda to be this HUGE. It was the size of a large pizza, and came layered with a black bean spread, Oaxacan cheese, tomatoes, avocado, and a choice of meat. It was really good, and reminded us of Mexico :) Another treat, was that a man was walking around handing out crickets to customers! He said he was from Oaxaca and that the crickets came from there. They were dusted in chili and garlic, and were actually really good! I had tried crickets before in the past, and they truly are not bad at all. They're a crunchy, salty, unique thing to snack on. I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, but it was really cool, and the guy was so friendly! Everyone at the tables seem to have enjoyed it!

Taisuke K.

Yelp
Pretty Great food, service leaves a lot of room for improvement. 3.5 stars

Juan S.

Yelp
Went there not too long ago and we went on a not too busy day They owner served us drunk My daughter and i got there and the owner served us we order because I knew what I wanted and my daughter I asked for a camarones a la Diablo and o got camarones al mojo de ajo Tool too long to serve us and there were only one other table that was already eating when we got there long story short. He was drunk and not knowing what we ordered and came back again to us asking what do we want to eat when we already told him 7 minutes ago And came back with the wrong orders I told him if he can only bring rice that that would be ok because of my 6 year old was starving Before we got there nothing on them that I have a 6 years old starving but they brought my wrong food first and got by daughter last the cook sent him on the back because he was drunk af When I left he was behind the building sleeping in his car I saw him because I had dot go back around the restaurant to get out of their restaurant I asked the worker if he was the owner or a worker they replied the owner and told them that he was f***** up himself and left then I saw him sleeping in his car We shouldn't bring bad days in any business we own it is just now look ok

Jesica G.

Yelp
I was excited to try some Oaxaca food. Every time I visit a new restaurant I go with an open mind. However, as soon as I walked it was dirty. Floor, tables etc. It took a long time for someone to take our order for which we ordered memelitas. I was given a fork to eat the food, that was dirty. I brought it up to the server and she told me it was water dried up, it wasn't, she tried scratching it and returned the same fork to my plate. How could I use that to eat?? Overall, food had a lot to be desired in terms of taste and size per value. I'll give it another shot in the future.

Ploy N.

Yelp
Lovely Chicken Mole Tamale! Super huge portion, but perfectly made. The mole tied everything together really well. The tamale was packed with juicy chicken. Even the side coleslaw was super nice and fresh! Super good and affordale.

Dan R.

Yelp
They do lovely mole' here. Had the brown oaxacan mole on my three pork enchiladas, very tasty sauce, cheese and other things sprinkled around, and nice bits of fat mixed in with the tender delicious pork. The black beans were whole beans and the rice reddish and tomato-y. Great filling meal. Abby had two tamales, tasted okay to me but like most tamales a mass of masa. Had just one guy waiting on all the tables and making drinks (when I was here a few years ago they weren't serving liquor) so service a little slow, but so many businesses short-staffed these days. no refill on my water.

Scott H.

Yelp
The mole is king here. I have been scouring the earth for the best al Pastor. I will say it's a fair price for tacos. I enjoy the blue corn tortilla but the best pastor is not here. One thing that I don't like about Mexican food is that sometimes it's hard to predict what will fill you up and what won't. I got the special tamale. I kind of scoffed at $7 for a tamale but it was loaded with chicken and mole and I was stuffed for a while. My wife had the mole tacos. Those are some girthy tacos. They are actually knife and fork tacos. You would look a little silly eating them with your hands. She also had the vegan tamale. She appreciated as a vegetarian how many good vegetables were in it. Some good stuff here!

Christina C.

Yelp
Whenever I crave tamales, I know I can go to Mixteca! I was first introduced to Mixteca at the Lloyd Farmer's Market on Tuesdays and when they had their cart at the Portland Mercado. You can catch them at various Farmer's Markets around Portland and of course at their Brick and Mortar restaurant on 82nd. I recently called in and ordered my go-to item: The Popeyes Tamale (a la carte) with a side of mole sauce. It was ready for pick up within 15 minutes and the service is always friendly and amazing. The Popeyes tamale consists spinach, tomato, and queso fresco. It came with a fresh cabbage mix and I topped with the mole sauce. I have also tried other items in the past from the restaurant such as taquito plate, quesadillas, and tacos; it did not disappoint. I highly recommend Mixteca for authentic foods!

Keely N.

Yelp
I tried the Vegan Tamale for the first time at the South Waterfront Farmer's Market! I loved it much. It's definitely difficult making a vegan tamale due to the complexities of ingredients to maintain the moist corn and filling. The veggies were fresh and delicious. Very moist and filling for $6! Definitely recommend!

Tony A.

Yelp
Torn here between three and four stars. Another restaurant that's a bit better than the three-star A-OK but not quite four stars, which for me means that it's a place I'm already looking forward to returning to. At our most recent visit both Dan and I opted for enchiladas, his with pork and red mole sauce, mine with chicken and mole negro. He's a Mixteca fan and nearly licked his plate clean. I found the mole negro to be somewhat flat and one-dimensional, and the tortilla and chicken to be a bit dry. The best part of the meal was our order of chips and salsa ($2 charge), which was fresh, ample, and truly delicious, particularly the green sauce that accompanied the chips. Out of fairness I'll return later this fall and reassess.

Meagan N.

Yelp
Yum! The tacos are a really good size for being $2.50 each. The asada was wonderful and so flavorful. The service was excellent and the staff even brought out takeout order to our car. The mole was also good and I imagine it tasting even better if we were eating in. Only complaint is I wish they gave us more limes!

Missy M.

Yelp
This was an interesting and fun experience but you have to be ready. The restaurant is a bit worn down, no kids menu or options and the orders were mixed up/had to be redone despite there only being 3 tables. Now here's the thing: my food was fantastic. Fresh, citrus-y ceviche. Authentic pork tamales. The quesadilla was gobbled up by the little kids! Pricing was good, easy parking, I 100% will come back. The things I listed above are just me being honest, but we still enjoyed the experience.

Laura L.

Yelp
I am so glad they opened a restaurant! I had the vegan mole special with green beans and wild mushrooms. I always think of mole as a dark sauce made of a bunch of ingredients including cocoa. This was something else. I know the description sounds blah. It was rich, complex and lightly spicy. But the more I ate, the spicier it got! I asked the server about it, and he said the spice sort of builds on the back of the tongue. It was served with locally made thick blue corn tortillas. They also offer homemade horchata. Service was very very friendly and prompt. I can't wait to go back

Frances L.

Yelp
This place is authentic!!! We loved everything from the decor ( it's new so they still have a few touches left) to the fiery and tasty salsas to the homemade tamales. The giant tostada ( not the name just can't recall it) was 14 inches in diameter and was perfect as a share meal between 2 people. The habanero salsa is HOT and I'm a spicy food person so proceed with caution. Great addition to the neighborhood with the loss of others in the area be patient on service till they work out the system it's worth it.

Melissa M.

Yelp
Ordered through Doordash based on good reviews and a fondness of tamales. Not pleased with what I received. The tamales were good but not especially great and definitely could have looked better. The smear of mole sauce could barely be tasted and the Popeye tamale looked like it had been punched by Popeye himself.

Hilary B.

Yelp
Wonderful family-owned Oaxacan restaurant with delicious vegan options! All of the moles are plant-based and the kitchen is very accomodating to any diet. You can really taste the home-cooked flavor and love in the food. The margaritas are fresh-squeezed and the mezcal selection is excellent. Everyone who works here is very kind.

Celia L.

Yelp
We found this place while at an event at Pcc in August... and fell in love with the tamales. In Portland, it's hard to find an authentic tasting tamale that's not covered in cheese or days old. This place is delicious... we bought tamales for lunch and some to bring home to have the next day for lunch as well. The flavor of the "Chile verde tamales" is perfect too.. enough spice, not over powering, and the Shredded chicken is not dry at all either. 10/10 id give it.. or 11 if I could. lol. Today 9/6/19 we tried the tlayudas there, again super yummy- took a bit of time but that allowed us to get hungry enough to eat the big thing.. it's pretty much a Mexican pizza - would feed about 4 people or several children. If you love authentic Mexican food, I 110% recommend this place. I'm pretty sure I'll be going here as often as possible. The people working in the place also 10/10 very friendly...

Jennifer L.

Yelp
We've been to their cart at the mercado so were interested in their new restaurant location. Service was very friendly, but it took a bit longer than expected to get our food. We really only cared because we had someplace to be afterwards (not something we typically do). I decided to get the mole tacos because regular ones just have cilantro and onions. I opted to try chicken, pork, and shrimp. They were definitely loaded. Pork was probably the best, but the meats were definitely tender. Not nearly as much shrimp as say chicken or pork on the tacos, but still good. My partner got some fancy enchilados because he really likes adobo sauce. His plate was fully loaded. He always worries about fatty meat, but he didn't have any issues here. It was tender with a great flavor. He had so much I got a couple bites. It was really good. The only reason I'm knocking it down a bit is because he found a twist tie in his cabbage. We assume it was from the cabbage bag. Luckily his meal he assembles himself so he easily spotted it and put it aside. Good portions at a reasonable price. If I went back I'd probably get what he had - so good!

Kc T.

Yelp
The best tamales ever ! Thick, soft flavorful, fresh. The mole and cactus salad are irresistible too ! I never get tired of eating them and can't imagine getting tamales, mole or cactus salad anywhere else! Kara T.

Miakoda C.

Yelp
This is first time I've had molé. It was delicious. Staff was attentive and friendly. I recommend it!

Erica C.

Yelp
Came here on my lunch break, was excited to try this place out because of the good reviews. The mole is way too salty which makes it unenjoyable to eat

Mike Mary L.

Yelp
We had wonderful dinners with a great server and fantastic "home cooked" food! We have not had an authentic meal like this in a very long time and will be back soon to try more of the food and drinks menu. I had the Mole Negro Oaxaqueno, savory and very flavorful, and my husband had the Caldo Siete Mares, full of seafood and perfectly spiced; both were good size portions. So glad we added the two tamales to go for breakfast the next morning; they were some of the best we've had. Everything was clean and set up well for social distancing between tables.

Dog T.

Yelp
Super tasty authentic food, Best Mexican Food in Portland. Cant wait to try more. Lots of veggie options too!

SL K.

Yelp
Great Oaxacan food with lots of personality and flavor. Friendly service. The tamal plate is like the best comfort food, and I loved the memelas. This place is now in our regular rotation for takeout!

Darren O.

Yelp
Absolutely the most unique tamale I have ever had. The mole sauce was rich and added a great depth of flavor. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Kendra L.

Yelp
This restaurant is so good- friendly people and everything we've tried is fresh and delicious. They are quick too. If I could I'd eat the chilaquiles every night!

Yelp
First came the cart, and now the restaurant. Best mole in town. And they make their own blue corn tortillas. What else do I have to say? Great non-carnivorous options as well. Paula, the mater familias, is a wonderfully gracious owner and hostess. She's behind the legendary mole and blue corn tortillas, by the way. Her son Antonio, former general manager and overall legend from Saburo's Sushi House in Sellwood, is a kind and creative chef, as really are all the other cooks and servers. I was impressed with their wonderful and hospitable service, only to be outdone with the wonderful food. They're definitely the best Oaxacan restaurant in Portland, and quite possibly among the best Mexican restaurants altogether in our wonderful little foodie town.

Yelp
Oh man, I had heard about this place but stopped in for lunch yesterday when I was passing by on 82nd. Mole taco? And the memelas?? My wife wanted tamales for dinner tonight so perfect opportunity for twice in 2 days! The tamales were delicious but I had to have more of those memelas! Chewy, crispy blue corn masa with black beans and white cheese... so simple and delicious!

Yelp
This is a great place! I originally discovered their awesome food at the Montavilla Farmers Market then found out they opened a restaurant. The food is fresh, organic, vegan (if you want), & they serve breakfast also! They are across from PCC & sandwiched in between Distinctive Sound & Taboo... Don't let the location deter you! Give it a try!! Bien Rico comida

Yelp
Seriously my favorite Sunday meal, mostly becasue I know I can get it at the Montavilla Farmer's Market. However with their brick and mortar restaurant, I need to get in more often! I've tried a lot of great Tamales in Portland, however hands down Mixteca is my favorite. I always get the VEGAN tamale and drench it in hot sauce. Very friendly, family-run staff as well. Keep up the great work!

Yelp
On our continuing weekly hunt for the best tacos in Portland, we sauntered into Mixteca last night (12/17/19) on the recommendation of one of our party. Never coming in but passing many times, she said, "It looks good...?" so, we agreed to try it. Upon entering, the place is colorful and vibrant with an amazing staff/family that runs the place with nothing but smiles on their faces and a warm greeting to anyone coming in. They were patient with us while we camped until the rest of our party arrived. The food was amazong, scrumptious, and delicious. Like, "Oh, my god..." delicious. The barbacoa melted in our mouths, the chicken was moist and probably the most flavorful I've ever had in a taco place; my quesadilla was huge, FILLD with chicken and cheese, and had just the right amount of kick to it. The Carne is divine - The burrito that was ordered was colorful in its fillings and filled to almost bursting, and it was mouthwatering to look at. We ate and we ate WELL and were stuffed while being surrounded by several families that came in to dine, laugh, and have a good evening. The music was loud (in a good way) and made everyone want to move in their seats. I HIGHLY recommend this little spot.

Yelp
The owners are so nice! They made an off menu quesadilla with oaxacan cheese for my bf and a gluten free one for me. We loved the cactus salad that came with chips. We are adding this place to our regular rotation. They said they will have beer available soon.
