Google
Mixteca is an amazing little Mexican restaurant that features delicious Margaritas with hundreds of tequilas to choose from, as well as authentic Mexican cuisine. The tamales are fantastic! I love the chicken quesadilla with chips and guacamole. My go-to drink is the Fresh Blood Orange Margarita when it's available. Vicky is the best and I love her!!!

Alysia Zabel

Google
Tamales, banana cheesecake, and margaritas were excellent. Nice atmosphere and could tell a lot of their drink flavors and food are homemade. Real nice and clean as well.

Ashley Chrusniak

Google
The drinks here are amazing and the food is just as good. It's on the pricey side but it's a great spot for a celebratory dinner. My husband loved their carnitas. I enjoyed their margaritas and chips and salsa. A big plus is they have outdoor seating and are dog friendly.

Toeknee “The Italian Stallion” Castillo

Google
Mamma Mia! Both the food and service was on point! Eclectic selection of drinks and food! Definitely a spot you wanna add to your list of places to dine. 😀

Google
Nice place, the bathrooms are very clean. I didn't eat this time but just a few drinks with a friend. I really enjoyed the servers' tequila recommendation.

Google
I live in New Mexico and eat a TON of Mexican food... even still, when I visit my mom, we always go here. It's absolutely fantastic. The margs... the cactus... the salsas and chips. Highly recommended.

Debra Claypool

Google
Way over priced! We have been here before for the margaritas which they have a huge variety to choose from and they are all amazing. This last visit was so disappointing because of how much the prices have gone up. I got a Blood Orange margarita ($15) and the Chicken Burrito ($10.50). I didn’t realize I’d be charged an extra $5.50 for the tiny bit of rice and beans until the bill came. I understand prices have gone up, but this was a bit excessive.

Google
Food was amazing, always good! Margaritas exceptional. Guacamole made a minute prior.😋. An absolutely wonderful place. Honestly, the only problem, is that we can only give it 5 stars, not 6.

Theodore G.

Yelp
The food was very good and tasty. Very fast service, but I have two complaints they charge for extra chips and all out of a lot of meat options. Chicken was good and the vibe was nice, calm, and welcoming.

Yelp
THE worst service. Not even a smile, except from the sweet lady that greeted and seated us. There was 4 tables with people, three servers, one bartender. It took 20 minutes just to get the check and only because we had to ask ANOTHER waiter for it. Ours was everywhere but being a waiter. One star is for the sweet lady greeter and one star is because the food was decent, but you can tell there isn't a good Mexican place around here.
google avatar

Yelp
Phenomenal food! Service was friendly and appropriately attentive. The traditional margarita was one of the best I have ever had!!! There was a group of women and the girls that were a bit loud for the small restaurant, but otherwise nice ambiance. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
High priced, loud and difficult to hear or be heard, not authentic Mexican and food is not memorable.

Yelp
It's always a pleasure to find dishes and drinks that just jump out and make me go .... oh my gosh that good! Well Mixteca is an amazing blend of both. Let me start by saying we had an early lunch on a Saturday and enjoyed a nice sunny day on their patio. All was clean, masks up and social distancing was in order. Now the more important part the drinks, food and overall experience... The service is good and the restaurant and patio are cute. You get started with a some fresh chips and three homemade salsas. Like it hot? Ask for their hot salsa... quite the kick but just right for me. Their guacamole is fresh and just delightful. Now we were just craving some of the best margaritas you will find in the burbs... seriously they are that good. We went with a strawberry pineapple Margarita and I had the Devil Cucumber Margarita. Amazingly fresh handcraft cocktails always. I really enjoyed the Devil Cucumber Margarita- nice mix of spicy w refreshing touch of fresh cucumber and lime. My wife loved the strawberry pineapple Margarita ... of course I had to try it ... and it's very good. Now if your a tequila person... they have the most extensive tequila selection I have seen. Probably 100 options ... and you can add what you want into any Margaritas and of course the best way straight up! For our main dishes - Shrimp fajitas- an excellent choice fresh just right veggies with a nice portion of perfectly cooked shrimp. Complete with warmed flour tortillas, Spanish rice and refried beans. I was very happy with the selections and it's a healthy portion to top it off. My wife had the vegetarian burrito. It's a stuff burrito- packed w veggies she's really enjoyed this. Now I have to say... you gotta come try Mixteca out. It's high quality food and drinks and your can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's Fantastic! Enjoy!

Yelp
The food was good but not authentic Mexican but has some. The service was great and the place has its charm.

Yelp
i have visited here several times and have always enjoyed the experience! The atmosphere is welcoming and fresh flowers are always out. I went near valentine's day and roses and balloons were everywhere! Drinks are top notch and the food is good! Vicky is amazing and makes every drink an artistic creation! Will be back!

Kathy T.

Yelp
Website said they were open. Got there and they had a sign in the door that they weren't open on Sundays anymore. So much for NOT updating your web site!!

Larry W.

Yelp
This was not my first time coming here but it has a been awhile. I got my old favorites, fish tacos, verde pazole, and chicken tamales. They were all as excellent as I remember. I cannot say enough good things about the fish tacos, they have a light breading, the slightly spicy sauce goes perfectly with them. The bartender was very nice and apologized for the long wait. I will be back for the delicious food.
google avatar

Jenni R.

Yelp
Place is small so there isn't a lot of room & they don't take reservations. Only had 1 bartender the night we went so when we got seated it did take a while to get our drinks. Margaritas were good - $12 each (kind of pricy - but they've got a chalkboard full of all the choices for a margarita. The food was good too. Shrimp fajita taco was very good.
google avatar

Chris E.

Yelp
If you want to learn about tequila, find out what you like ,this is the place! They have hundreds of bottles and they know everything about it. It's the best kept secret of Woodstock. The food is also very good . Recommend the fajita tacos!

Sharon K.

Yelp
REAL authentic margaritas!! No mixes. Wonderful drinks! Food is unmatched in the area! Other than the acoustics, this place is a winner!

Andrea M.

Yelp
This is a hidden treasure. I first found this place two years ago. When I knew I was going to be in the area again, I planned another visit. It did not disappoint. I had one of their specials. Poblano peppers, onions, and chicken grilled and served with a cream sauce. Rice, beans, and warm corn tortillas accompanied it. Of course, I had to have one of their "signature" margaritas. Dinner was awesome. Despite slow service, my experience was five star.

Linda S.

Yelp
Great little place with great service, excellent atmosphere and amazing food. I love their Tamales! Everything I've ordered has been good. If you do carry out, check your order because I was given the wrong order the last time. I don't have time to go back in a case like this. Other than that, I highly recommend.
google avatar

Emanuel R.

Yelp
I have been here 3 times all by invitation from friends in the area. Personally I do not like the food. It tastes like something that was made days ago or out of can and microwaves. I can not call this place a Mexican restaurant more like texmex with little seasoning. I gave them 3 stars not for the food but for the drinks. Their drinks are great
google avatar

Cheryl C.

Yelp
What we loved: tequila flight, verde pozole, pork tamale, pomegranate margarita, chips and trio of salsa, al pastor taco, our waiter. Attention to Covid protocol (plexiglass between booths, saw menus being wiped down after use, etc.) What was meh: the steak, cactus, pico de gallo dinner special - no seasoning or much flavor. Will definitely be back to try other dishes and more of their fabulous margaritas!
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
Que bueno! Awesome! We were just passing through the area and were fortunate to be directed here from Yelp. And it certainly did not disappoint! Outstanding! Without a doubt some of the best Mexican I've had in years. We Highly recommend it -they have outstanding salsa and chips and all of the the entrees were phenomenal! Our party had a burrito and tacos and the posole and the tostadas! Delicious! Great bar too With a huge margarita selection!

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here. So it wasn't the full experience with margaritas, chips and salsa, etc to truly give a good review. The salsas they sent were not good at all.... guacamole was delicious and fresh. We got steak fajita tacos, fish tacos, and chicken burrito-suizo style. Everything was 3.5 star. Good but not amazing. The chicken burrito lacked flavor. As far as takeout service, they were very kind, polite, and quick. Would go back to try sit down service.

Pamela S.

Yelp
Food great. I love the homemade salsas served with the complimentary basket of chips. My go to is the chicken chimichanga with the 'bomba' sides. But, the menu is varied with lots to offer. Margaritas are wonderful & they offer several flavors. Staff friendly and efficient. Especially appreciate Vicki!!

Elissa R.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant several times, the food is average but the specialty margaritas are worth the trip usually. Today I went with a group of friends, and ordered the mezcal margarita with sal gusano. The waiter made my margarita and brought it to me but it did not have anything rimming the glass, he said they were out of the "worm salt" instead of checking to see if I still wanted the drink, I asked if I could have my glass rimmed in salt and he said "no my boss won't allow me to rim the glasses of the speciality margarita" if I as a customer purchasing the drink would like my glass rimmed with salt or sugar I feel like that should be doable. Also usually the margaritas taste fresh and not fake or from a mix , but this marg just tasted like mezcal with sweet and sour mix. Disgusting.

Yelp
My wife and I had heard good things about Mixteca so we ordered dinner there tonight for carry out. The $7.00 shrimp fajita taco was flavorful, but light on ingredients: basically a handful of fajita mix and three or four shrimp. My wife got the steak chimichanga for $10.00. She said the flavor was a little spicy but overall good, and thought it was amusing that they served it with a single slice of tomato and a small handful of shredded lettuce (don't expect the usual rice and refried beans with your meal unless you're willing to pay another $1.50). Finally, we ordered the pico de Gallo and chips for $4.50. They forgot the chips. Overall it was....fine, I guess? $25 for an average dinner that would have been better spent if we went to La Taqueria in the Square. To their credit, the wait staff was incredibly friendly and prompt with their service, so I appreciated that. I don't regret going to Mixteca, but I won't go back.

Dawn P.

Yelp
Not impressed at all. Super expensive - $16 for enchiladas??? We ended up ordering a nacho plate and there were barely any chips; just enough to ring the plate and only a few on the bottom. We ate most of it with a fork. Won't be here again.

Yelp
One of the best Mexican Restaurants in town. I would describe it as Coastal in flavors and style. Undeniably the very best Margaritas in town. Lunch or Dinner, Service is Top Notch and the Atmosphere is warm and inviting.

E. A.

Yelp
Had a fantastic meal here a couple weeks ago. Tried a variety of dishes, including the ribs which were a special that day. Comfortable casual dining area, with a bar. Cocktails are one of their specialties. Our traditional margaritas were perfect. The food was delicious, and our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We look forward to returning soon to try more. (I just saw the negative review below. It did not match my experience and I noticed that reviewer has blasted several restaurants with 1-star reviews. Everyone has different experiences, but this is truly a good restaurant, so hopefully that negative review will not sway you from trying).
google avatar

Henry S.

Yelp
6/7 of the last times I have ordered from here it has been messed up in some way or another. Do NOT ask for a different type of tortilla, it will be flour regardless. Maybe someday I will look forward to eating here again, it will be years before I even try it.

Yelp
This place is located in a strip so it was not super easy to find. We went on a Friday night about 6:30 and it was pretty busy, but we didn't wait long for a table--maybe 5mins. Small place with a large chalkboard displaying the different types of margaritas and specials. They had a lot of unique margaritas. I ordered the cucumber habanero and the blackberry plum. All are made with real ingredients and were delicious. They had a lot of different salas too. I ordered the special oaxaquena, which was asada y nopales (skirt steak and cactus) with rice and beans, which was good. My friend ordered the fish tacos, which was also good. While both plates were good, it was typical of a taqueria and nothing too much to rave about. The margaritas were delicious and fresh so I will def come back for those!

Mary C.

Yelp
Mostly terrible food. Slow service even though 8 tables total in restaurant. They use Mozzarella cheese in stead of Mexican cheese. Disgusting. Margaritas are good, but expensive! Skip this place.

James T.

Yelp
Still chips and overpriced tacos. Foods not bad but not worth the price. Unless you're trying to burn money stay away.

S M.

Yelp
I went yesterday. Many people have told me about this place. I was highly disappointed. Truthfully the worst Al pastor tacos we have ever had. Tacos are our favorite food so we are always up to try a new place to see if we can find a new place. There was nothing traditional about the Al pastor and tasted nothing like pastor. The pork tasted more as if it was slow cooked like lechón. Seasoning was not even close and chunks of canned pineapple in the tacos really threw me for a loop! The carnitas also was again not good. It was like shredded pork. the salsas didnt have much flavor. I will say I had two margaritas. The house margarita was great! The michelada my husband had was horrible. We definitely won't be back. If you like street tacos this is not your place. The place was nice and very clean and the wait staff was very nice! Just work on that meat!
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
Ok so a friend and me had a great time. We did a pitcher of margaritas hand made and tasty. The food was good we had fajitas and a soup maybe poloiz of something it was a special. Very tasty. Just super hot when she got it. The point of was for not warning is on the four salsa. We thought the hit was mild and start there. Lol. So the rest didn't taste for a second or two lol. Service was great. But one service person for whole restaurant. It was week day lunch. But she was hopping. Will go back
google avatar

Stacey S.

Yelp
My husband and I went here on a Saturday night. It was super busy and LOUD!! We could hardly carry on a conversation and we had to repeat ourselves most of the time. Our service from our waitress was mediocre at best but the rest of the staff seemed to try to pick up her slack. Now the food was excellent! I had chicken enchilada was absolutely delicious. We agreed that we will order take out next time because the food was that good.
google avatar

Yelp
Margaritas are strong OR I'm a wimp Very large selections of flavors and tequila Who wudda thought I wud love blueberry-ginger? Food was very yummy I like authentic chips~these were in the middle-they bring out 4 different kind of tasting salsas (kinda like Mago) 2 were great~one made our heads explode Guacamole was delicious, but not the best I've ever had..but still quite good I wish I knew that the steak in the chimichanga was shredded and Smokey flavored - I wud have passed, but it was still very good and a good recommendation by our server. We also split combo fajitas (and by split, that was 75/25 in my favor) all quite delicious! It's far for me, but wud go back for girls night. Oh! And the bathrooms are lovely!! Great decor, soaps and lotions!

Yelp
Visit here a few times a year and always leave happy. On this visit we sat at the bar for the first time. This proved to be a mistake because you cannot see the specials menu. Hard to order what you cannot see. We asked the bartender if he had a copy of that menu but he did not. We then stood in the middle of the main dining area to snap a picture of it while servers moved across. We ordered a couple cocktails which were good but my drink was mostly ice. There wasn't enough liquid to cover all of the ice they loaded in there. It was a bandana and tequila concoction for around $13. After that experience I will never order a mixed drink again when dining here.

Mark S.

Yelp
A cut above the usual mexican restaurant quality food and drinks.salmon in orange sauce with mussels rocked as did the burrito. Highly recommend

Tom B.

Yelp
I love this place from the margaritas to the sauces that are served with the chips to the guacamole to the entrees. We are fortunate to have such a great restaurant in the County.

Monica E.

Yelp
Ordered chicken nachos and the chicken is literally big chunks.. not even shredded.. not appetizing when I have to shred my own meat for my nachos..upsetting, especially for a pregnant woman who's been craving nachos.

Yelp
I can't say if the food is authentic, or good, or even acceptable because I was not able to try anything on the menu. Walked in on Saturday, no hostess stand, so we were kind of just standing around to get seated, but someone stopped and seated us pretty fast. We got some chips and salsa, which was not my favorite but not bad, and then waited to place a drink order. We didn't get a drink menu, and not sure if they have one or you just have to read what's on the chalk board, but we just wanted a regular margarita on the rocks and a draft beer. The waitress was extremely confused what a "regular" margarita flavor was, so a few minutes wasted there. The worst part was once we ordered our drinks we then waited 30 minutes, without anything. Other tables were on their second drink and no one even stopped by. This place is the size of my bedroom, it's not like we got lost in the crowd. Decided to pack up and go, told our "server" we are leaving, and why, and the response was "ok, have a good night". Have never walked out of a restaurant in my life! We went to 1776 and had a great meal instead.
google avatar

Karen G.

Yelp
The best Mexican cuisine in Northern Illinois. The shredded beef melts in your mouth. I have never ordered anything that wasn't excellent.
google avatar

Ingrid K.

Yelp
We ate here for the first time last night . The owner was so friendly & informative about the process used in making all the different flavors of organic margaritas. You can tell she is passionate about the quality of the food & drinks offered & it definitely showed. We will be back. Great food & great drinks!
google avatar

Josie S.

Yelp
I've dined here on and off over the last couple of years. It's not my first choice for Mexican because the prices are very unusual. You can get ala carte taco for a typical taqueria price around $1.75 but if you want an enchilada dinner you'll pay around $16.00, individual side of rice is $3.50, etc. Some things are just unusually high priced. Today I went with a group for lunch on a Monday. I understand that restaurants are commonly out of things on Mondays (after the weekend and before order delivery day) but today they were out of around 8-10 different things. Reading reviews here this seems to be common. It appears that they might operate with minimal ingredients so as to not run up costs but for some things, like avocados...a Mexican restaurant should never run out of those. Pick some up at Aldi down the street for crying out loud. This alone, the inconsistency with product and menu item stock, is a concern each time I go. The only things that will bring me back are that their salsas are very good (but not served with fresh chips unfortunately) and the verde pozole is out of this world delicious.
google avatar

Cj N.

Yelp
Not happy. Couldn't understand my order gave me 3 tacos instead of 10 then proceeded to leave them open so when I got back there was just meat on one side.
google avatar

Tristan H.

Yelp
I can say this once or twice or a dozen times: Mixteca makes the best Tex Mex food. If I had ten dollars and I could only eat it at one restaurant, I'd go to Mixteca and use $8.50 and eat what that bought and hope the server didn't frown at my pitiful $1.50 tip.
google avatar

Lissy O.

Yelp
Best tacos, BEST margaritas Beautiful atmosphere and staff, everyone is so friendly and warm.
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
Perfection. Great service, great bar, and only have the best Mexican food in America. No big deal AJ is the Tequila Master oF Tequila Masters
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Outstanding! $3.00 tostada's at the bar are fantastic. Better than that was AJ at the bar mixing blood orange Casamigos margaritas. Muy Bueno!!!!

Courtney W.

Yelp
Service is TERRIBLE. Sat there for 45 minutes before someone finally brought us our waters. Waitress took our order and then came back 10 minutes later and took it again. THEN she charged our credit card to another customers order. Never apologized for the inconvenience. On top of all of that, it's 87 flipping degrees out and they don't believe in air conditioning. Never dining there again.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Great food. Service was a 5 out of 10. She messed our order up but that might be cuz she was the only one serving at the time

Pam C.

Yelp
It has been quite a while since we have visited this establishment. Due to the prior experience there was no desire to revisit. I guess I am super critical just moving here from California. I choose Mexican restaurants based on great referrals. Sadly I know these people have never had real Mexican food. The restaurant was fairly crowded, there was 1 large group. It appeared that there was only 1 server, maybe 1 helper and I felt sorry for her. As far as atmosphere/ambiance? Not so much. The nail in the coffin was no salt on my Margarita. I mentioned it and if I could get a salted glass to pour it into. No. Excuse me? No? No, salt ruins the taste of the tequila. The owner does not allow salt. "I am the patron, I want salt". Nope, they don't even have any in the restaurant. Okie dokie. You will never have us in the restaurant again...ever. Food, eh. Prices, too much for eh. Another so called Mexican restaurant bites the dust.
google avatar

Kraig K.

Yelp
First time out there. Met 3 other couples for drinks and dinner. Atmosphere was great. Server was really nice. Drinks there are super tasty but the food was really bland. I talked with another couple the next day and they said the same thing. Not that the food was bland but needed more flavor. I'd go back for drInks and conversation but would probably take my food order somewhere else. Overall decent experience
