Food was good and authentic - there are several bento box lunch options and each of them had plenty of food for one. Service staff were Japanese - they were all courteous and polite. The food was a bit slow being served. The place is hidden downstairs and can be hard to find. Decor a bit dated.

A really good authentic Japanese restaurant tuck in an alley. Highly recommended as the food here is really authentic. Service was impeccable as well. You will notice a lot of Japanese expats eating here.

Wow, what can I say about this place other than it is possibly some of the most amazing Japanese food I’ve had in London. Tucked off in a side street from St Paul’s with most of it on a basement and sub basement level, it is fairly traditional in decor, service and dishes offered, with a large selection of sake and other beverages. The restaurant is split into two levels, with the upstairs containing a teppanyaki area and more seating downstairs, no low tables or tatami seating unfortunately. Food is on the costly side, however, you do get what you pay for, the quality is absolutely amazing and the portions are fairly generous.

One of the best places I ate sushi and sashimi at. Never disappoints. I'm regular here and I highly recommend Miyama.

Google
Great experience, lovely food, nice selection. The downstairs area could use some better decor but that doesn't take away from the taste. Price is also pretty fair.

Good value lunch deal in a tranquil setting. Authentic Japanese restaurant earning the patronage of many Japanese bankers and businessmen. Table next to us had a huge spread of sushi - will no doubt be coming back for that

Yelp
This restaurant was one of the best Japanese restaurants I've never been in my life ! I went there with my work team to welcome one of our Japanese guests. We ordered a lot of different stuffs and sake and everything was good. The sashimi and the sushi were perfect, fine and savorous; the karaage was as good as the one I ate in Japan; the tempura soba were pretty good but not my favorite dish of this dinner. We ordered sake as well which was nice ! It's an expensive place but it worth it. I totally recommend it !

Yelp
Quick glance: + great quality ingredient + authentic taste and flavour + personable and happy staff - very pricey - venue needs a new lick of paint The unassuming entrance to Miyama is tucked away in a narrow street. If you do manage to find it, don't be put off by the lack of decor, particularly in the downstairs dining area in the windowless basement, where the off-white paint is starting to chip and crack in places. Miyama offers set lunch menus which look much better value than their a la carte and sushi selection, which includes miso soup to start and a dessert to finish, although still costing £20-30 a person, depending on which ones you choose. Bento boxes are also available, which looked amazing as I stole glances at our neighbouring table... The quality of food is unquestionably superb - very tasty, fresh, and with authentic flavours. Service was great too, with very personable staff, although food took a bit longer to deliver than the usual pace of life in the City. The high price tag means the restaurant should easily attract city banker clientele, but I think the lack of decor in the dining area makes it a bit incongruous for long city lunches.

Yelp
Very good, authentic Japanese food stop tucked in a narrow street by St Paul's. The miso soup was the best i ever had. Sushi was nicely prepared and very fresh. My favorite was salmon avocado. I also got spicy tuna (just ok) and yellowtail/ onion (oddly had wasabi inside which was an overwhelming surprise). As far as drinks, they have a vast sake selection, no cocktails, and limited wine/ beer. Service was friendly and quick but not rushed.

Yelp
This has been my go-to Friday dinner night date night place as it's really near work. I love tucking into their Miyama noodles. The prices are not rocketing expensive and it's good Japanese food. However, the place isn't that great. Also, the entrance is a bit hard to find.

Yelp
Well, the first review of Miyama. I am surprised as this really is a perfect little haunt tucket away near St. Pauls. Okay, introductions: Miyama is a Japanese restaurant split in the usual way. There is a teppan-yaki section, a sushi counter and then private rooms downstairs. The restaurant is a little hard to find and rather underwhelming from the outside but I was promised that this was the "Place" for good sushii by a Japanese work colleague. We went on a Wednesday night, which was fairly quiet and this had the added advantage that during the week from 6pm to 7.30pm is Sushi 'Happy Hour' where all sushi is £1, except for Maki rolls which are £3. Thus with the price sorted out beforehand we weren't too apprehensive of ordering lots of food. My other favorite Japanese restaurant, 'Donzoko' is very much a different price league than this (higher!). The sushi bar itself is small, seating perhaps 8 - 10 people maximum. Two chefs during the evening prepared our food for our party that took up nearly all the bar. The menu is reasonably extensive and comprises the more 'standard' Japanese sushi with nice different types like 'sweet prawn' and 'Grilled Salmon'. All of the sushi was fresh and very good. Of particular quality was the scallop dish which my significant other ate many. Infact in an hour we'd eaten them out of scallop! Obviously sushi is not to everyone's taste, but rest assured the range and cooking technique is sufficiently large and good to ensure you'll enjoy. Dishes can be supplemented with full price regular menu dish where I'd heartily recommend Nasu Dengaku which is grilled Aubergine with Sweet paste ontop. Really tasty! Also the buttered scallops Miyama style is great. After a lot of Sushi we retired to a room downstairs had had some Japanese rice wine, a few things of Sake and some Japanese dessert. With some shochu (Red Pirilla - ICHIBAN SHISO) we really enjoyed our day. Overall, a great restaurant, slightly let down by the interior, but with great service, great food will be sure to come back again soon. Donzoko for now still retains my "Best Japanese" crown, but Miyama wins on price and sushi, so it's very, very close.

Yelp
Brilliant sushi place with super friendly and overwhelmingly polite staff. Their seared salmon is the best I've ever had and their chefs always seem genuinely pleased to see you. Can't say I've ever looked at a menu or even sat at a table but sit at the sushi counter and ask for suggestions from the chef and you'll be happy. The place isn't cheap (~£50 a head without drinks) but it's excellent.

Yelp
Had a great time here last night. Food and service was excellent. The ambience downstairs has a very elegant feel, which I loved. The owner was incredibly sweet. Apparently she came to U.K. from Japan 30 years ago and has owned both Miyama locations for the past 18 years. It's always great to hear the story of an entrepreneur and support a good family business.

Yelp
I am a big fan of sushi and sashimi and this is my favorite place to get some. The food is fresh which is the most important thing for Japanese food. The rolls were perfectly arranged and delicious and I would gladly recommend the restaurant to everyone.

Yelp
It is clear that anyone who has eaten here and enjoyed it has not only never had good Japanese food, but also has never had good food, period. This was some of the most disgusting Japanese food that I have had in a city that is renowned for its bad Japanese food. The fish in my sushi rolls was warm, tasteless, and potentially off; the service was mediocre; and the cost was exorbitant. Pay the few extra pounds and go to Roka.
