The Best Sushi Restaurants in Portland and its Suburbs | Eater Portland

"This low-key Montavilla spot is a favorite among many Portlanders for casual but quality sushi of all types, from nigiri to classic rolls to Ora King-stuff handhelds. With regular specials like three-piece albacore nigiri for $9 on the weekends and $7 spicy tuna rolls at happy hour, there are frequent deals to take advantage of throughout the week. The extensive sake selection is also a draw, with flights for curious sippers to sample different styles." - Zoe Baillargeon

Where to Eat and Drink in Portland’s Montavilla Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"Miyamoto may not boast the pedigree or accolades of some of Portland’s more celebrated — and centrally located — sushi restaurants, but it’s become a neighborhood favorite on the strength of its delicate rice, fresh and thoughtfully sourced fish, and confident simplicity of its presentation. Miyamoto’s chirashi bowl may just be the best value in town. The sake list is ample, and the next-door Roscoe’s tap and bottle list available." - Nathan Williams

The fish was so fresh and good quality and the preparation was excellent. The portion sizes were bigger than expected and ratio of fish to rice was great, no skimping on the fish. The spicy scallop nigiri was so good I'm going to have to come back just for that. Service was great.

Google
Miyamoto was AMAZING. Service was amazing and workers were nice but the atmosphere was amazing. I ordered a California roll and a spider roll, and let me tell you. The California roll was so creamy and crispy while the spider roll was the same but also tangy. Then I had ordered a Devil’s Crete. It was even better, spicy mayo, fish, seaweed and other things made it Perfect. Always choose this place.

So much stinkin' FUN!!! 😊😊 The best Sushi 🍣 I've ever had!! So 👍👍👍. Don't hesitate just go! We loved Ripley and Taylor....thank you for the hot cup of delicious tea while waiting on a cold rainy evening. You ALL ROCK 💪🫶

Google
My personal #1 spot to get sushi when me and friends want a great treat. I love sitting outside after dark with the fireplaces, especially if it's raining a little! The Jalapeño ninjas are the best, even my mom enjoyed them. Wonderful sushi as well. Had the Miyamoto and the black tiger rolls. Our server was delightful as well. The green tea mochi rolls were very tasty.

Google
The best sushi in Portland! I've been coming to Miyamoto for years for my sushi fix, and it never disappoints. Excellent fish quality and creative rolls as well as reasonably priced favorites. They have also got a great variety of Japanese "bar food" like chicken karaage, as well as the option to order from the extensive beer list from Roscoe's bar next door! Come for the fish, stay for the great vibes here! :)

Google
miyamoto sushi is on another level. the sushi itself was spectacular. every bite was so fresh and beautifully prepared it actually stopped me mid‑conversation a few times. 10/10 recommend the mexican. yum! but i need to give a HUGE shout out to andreas, the sushi chef. the minute i sat down, he noticed the wait staff was completely slammed, stepped out from behind the sushi line, brought me water, and took my order himself. who does that? what a team player and what a welcoming vibe to set the tone for the meal. incredible sushi, incredible service, and a place that clearly cares about every guest. i’ll be back, no question.

Google
Great restaurant! Has indoor and outdoor seating. The menue has lots of options and provides Gluten Free and vegetarian options as well. Our server was friendly and knew a lot about the sushi. Would definitely eat here again.

Google
This is the place. It packs out on Friday and Saturday nights so get there before the rush, or go on a week night. Their Nigiri is some of the best I’ve ever had. I order their Nigiri specials most times, and also enjoy their chirashi bowl. The fish is fresh and cut generously. Can’t wait to go back.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't reviewed Miyamoto in all these years. This is my neighborhood sushi restaurant, the place where I would get takeout during CoViD, the place that immediately become OUR sushi spot after the very first visit! Why? There are so many reasons, but let's start with the sushi itself... The fish has always been so wonderful. One of our favorites is the Chikashi, an amazing deal with so many different cuts, as well as almost every side you can imagine, from ikura to wakame salad, shredded beets (so much more flavorful than daikon)... oh, it's a joy. I love the sashimi here, especially salmon and, when I want a real treat, the Ora King Salmon. Ora is the only salmon farm that does not harm the environment, produces fish on a par with Copper River and... is right here in Oregon. It's spectacular. But even the humble Mackerel is so good here. Mackerel is almost the test for whether a sushi place is good. If it is less than ultra-fresh, because it is so oily, it tastes too strong. But, when it's fresh, like the best Uni (also great here), it tastes of the sea in a way indescribable. Here, it's so far the best I've had outside Mackerel that was swimming just before I ate it from a sushi bar in Aomori. Oh, I almost forgot, the scallops, YUM. OK, what else makes this wonderful? There is more to eat, I assure you. There are so many wonderful things. Let's start with the miso soup. They make their own dashi, I think, because the soup here has a wonderful flavor not available with simple katsuobushi and combu. I love it on a cold day. For apps, we think the takoyaki is the best anywhere in Portland. The tempura is excellent, almost as good as Miki's (Miki makes her own batter from scratch and has so many tweaks to get it just right, hers is almost as good as we got from a tempura chef in Haneda where the chef would fry things and then give them to you at the bar, Amakase style). We've loved so many other things, but these stand out. But, let's not stop there. Sake. Try the flight sometime. If they have it, make sure to try Yuki no Bosha and Ippin. If you love a daiginjo that has a fruity and floral notes, these top notch sakes are for you. And how's the service? Spot on, even when they are busy. Always prompt and attentive, friendly and the kind of people who remember you time after time. And, there are at least TWO super special Pro Tips for you this time! Pro Tip #1: Go there at opening, at 4pm, on Friday through Sunday. This is when Neo tends sushi bar. If you like nigiri or sashimi like I do or a great Chirashi, knife skills matter. Neo is awesome. He's also so generous. Sit at the bar and get to know him, he's kind, generous, and friendly. Pro Tip #2: Of course, the renown relationship with Roscoe's next door. Order from a great taplist. I find that lagers, especially rice lagers and pilsners like Asahi Super Dry complement sushi perfectly but Oregon produces so many wonderful beers that really shift the whole experience toward the unique and special end of quality, so adventure here. I don't recommend a dark or stout beer or even a porter with sushi, but who knows, maybe that's just right for you. A lot of folks like an IPA or even a double IPA. Have fun, it will change the whole character of your meal.

Yelp
Poor service. Quoted 15-20 minutes wait for a party of 4 people on a Monday evening but ended up waiting 30. Staff took excessively long to clean and set our table. The table they sat us at was open for at least 5 minutes before anyone came to seat us. The wait for food was long. The server was inattentive, often talking to co-workers. My water glass was left empty for the duration of dinner until the server refilled it at the end. The edamame was mushy and tasted like it was microwaved too long. The sushi was okay but not worth the price.

Yelp
Miyamoto sushi -Rice to meet you! This catapulted itself really fast into one of my favorite sushi places in town. We came in on Labor day and mostly picked them because they were one of the few places open. The staff was warm and welcoming and we got to order as soon as we were ready. we got Monkey brains -5/5 Chef`s choice -5/5 Salmon Roe and Hokkaido scallops -5/5 Basically everything that came out of the kitchen was a masterpiece and I can't seem to find a single thing that didn't taste fantastic including the sake they recommended. Space isn't too big to accommodate many at the same time and it could potentially be the reason for the long wait times. The staff was an absolute delight and went over and beyond to make it a good dine-in experience for us . The cherry on the cake is that the prices aren't exorbitant and reflect the quality of food they provide .

Jonathan W.

Yelp
Excellent food, ambience, staff, and great drink choices from the bar next door. This family will definitely be back!

Yelp
This place used to be great. It's been disappointing the last few times. This time was just bad. The sushi rice was overcooked. The fish was cut poorly. (The salmon still had bits of skin on it) the ikura was old and super oxidized. Bummer.

Yelp
Love their Happy hour - not a huge selection but price is right for delicious food that is exactly the same as regular menu but discounted during happy hour- We can stop in for a quick meal and continue on in our afternoon chores... nice outdoor tables ... great service ( you can order bevs from the bar next door too)

Yelp
I experienced strange service from a server there twice and won't be going back. The first time at the end of our meal, I asked her about dessert, she listed off two things, so I said (in a friendly, making-a-conversation kind of way) "Two things, right?" She responded with "If there were more, I would have told you." Then laughed almost sarcastically. Both my friend and I were taken a back but let it go. Fast forward about a month later, I took my teenaged daughter there because I liked the food, and (pretty sure) I got the same server. We ordered two meat plates, two bowls of rice, a miso soup, a salad and a drink. This is a lot of food for the two of us (we ended up with two boxes of leftovers). When the waitress brought the bill, she said "Okay! So it comes out to ONLY $40!" I thought I heard her wrong but when she left, my daughter said she heard it too and thought that it was strange and sounded passive aggressive. I'm not sure what she meant by "only" but we didn't feel that she meant to be funny. Maybe we didn't order enough? We ordered more than we could eat and were in and out of there in less than an hour. She made us feel like we did something wrong. The hostess that seated us both times were nice but obviously some staff need to be trained better.

Yelp
Decent sushi for the neighborhood. Miyamoto is cozy and welcoming and the service was really great. There were 6 of us and we got seated pretty quick on a Saturday evening. Each of us ordered a speciality roll and a hand or cut roll and it was plenty of food. Portions are pretty big here and the quality is there. Prices were fair and I'd come back when in town.

Yelp
What a great neighborhood spot! We visited from San Francisco and were pleasantly surprised to have great sushi with amazing service and prices. The happy hour menu from 4p-6p is very generous and you can even order beer from the bar next door. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Portland, Oregon I highly recommended been going through for a long time took my words for it

Yelp
This little gem has been here for some time and this was not our first visit. It was just such a nice happy hour at the counter experience. The food was great and the service matched it. Just go and enjoy as we have and did once again.

Yelp
My 2nd visit here and it did not disappoint. Fresh sushi, creative and tasty rolls, great drinks, and friendly staff. Crab sunomono is a must for apps! Will definitely return to try more specialty rolls.

Yelp
Beloved and delicious Miyamoto has our hearts. Excellent happy hour, sushi, and service. Just an all around excellent restaurant.

Yelp
Miyamoto Sushi doesn't look like a sushi restaurant, but it definitely delivers where it counts! The staff is very friendly, competent, and patient, and know their wares very well. Our waitress happily made recommendations, and they didn't disappoint. I was especially appreciative of their unique preparation of the hamachi kama. They score several cuts in it, and marinate it some sort of citrus marinade. I LOVE hamachi kama, and Miyamoto's preparation is outstanding. Another unexpectedly great item, and probably what I enjoyed the most, was the "Tokyo Tea" beverage. It is a magical non-alcoholic fizzy tea beverage with Yuzu and other flavors. I find myself wanting to come back here just for the Tokyo Tea. I was also very appreciative of the availability of shumai. Nigiri has larger pieces of fish than most, which isn't necessarily a good thing because the balance of fish to rice when executed perfectly is magical. Rolls were more of a hit-and-miss affair...none were bad, but a few of our choices seemed a bit odd in their ingredient selection. Prices are moderate, and portion sizes are good (no gimmicky giant rolls, and no tiny rolls). Parking can be a challenge because it is all street parking, and the area is generally very busy.

Yelp
Love the Monkey Brain! The sushi we order is fresh & presented well. In fact, we're going there for dinner tonight
google avatar

Yelp
Great vegetarian options in a fun family-friendly atmosphere. We sat at the bar which initially gave me pause but the cook behind the bar was friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Top level sushi and crew at this cozy spot! Service was quick even on a busy Friday night!

Yelp
Presentation was sloppy. Fish did not taste fresh. It took a while to get any service to the table and I had to ask them to come up to us and order. Would not come back and would not recommend.

Kevin G.

Yelp
Great food, service, ambience. Excellent beer selection. Parking is a challenge but worth it. Rolls and nigiri top notch and reasonably priced

Yelp
Delicious sushi. The Monkey Brain is an excellent starter. Love their nigiri. Very fresh. Good sake selection and great cocktails. Quaint setting and good service. Highly Recommended "And monkey's brains, though popular in Cantonese cuisine, are not often to be found in Washington D.C"

Yelp
been here a few times and this most recent visit wasn't the best. We had dirty dishes on our table that took too long to get cleared even as the sever brought more food they just let us stack our dishes and left them on our table, I got double charged on an order so make sure to check the receipt. idk if was just the timing or the crew was at the end of their shift but it seemed like we weren't getting the same level service as the yt customers, wasn't too great an experience as a poc customer trying to to find and enjoy a sushi spot in the neighborhood :( wouldn't recommend to friends or loved ones.

Yelp
best waiter ever. ponchos soul mate. cured my hiccups and showed me how sake can make u cry. 1000000/10

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite to eat. Had the Miyamoto roll and a spicy tuna roll. Presentation was amazing but I didn't particularly like the taste of some of the garnishments on top. Just pushed them off and the rolls itself were great.
google avatar

Suhasini G.

Yelp
Our first visit to Miyamoto was so great that we decided to return for my husband's birthday. Apparently others also had the same idea and there were two other tables next to us celebrating as well! The food was absolutely amazing and so was our server, tho it was very hot and 100+ yesterday! She even offered us complimentary dessert and let us pick for birthday celebrations! The prices are also very reasonable overall. Think this is going to be our go to place!
google avatar

Hallie W.

Yelp
The food is SOOOO yummy here. I would definitely recommend getting one of the house rolls - my favorite is the Mexican roll. One of the best parts about this restaurant is that the sushi is fresh and they don't fry a lot of their rolls, which can be hard to find sometimes. They also have a happy hour M-Th before 6 PM and they serve all of the beers next door from Rosco's! My go-to sushi spot in SE
google avatar

Nina N.

Yelp
What an amazing spot that was very clever in the way they handled the pandemic. The outside seating patio is such a hotspot and I'm not just talking about the cute little fire pits they have in front of you. They have a great sake selection where the manager recommended a nice crisp and sweet easy table sake. It paired well with our Unagi roll, salmon hand roll as well as their speciality roll. Their Hamachi nigiri was also delicious. I can't wait to come here again with my bf because we like to do Omakase. The food was super fresh and one of the best I've had on east side.
google avatar

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
My mom is a picky eater, and she enjoyed their sushi rolls and tempura. Massive Win! Outdoor seating meant we could eat here (Covid is still here, so indoor eating is out). We had some typical rolls--shrimp tempura, real crab california, spider roll. All were great and the fish tasted fresh. I also had nigiri, tobiko, unagi, uni. Tobiko Nigiri was huge, like a massive heaping. All good. The specialty rolls looked really good too. Only disappointments were the salmon collar (too dried out from frying) and the sea urchin (which was not sweet). Definitely a sushi place we will return to.

Yelp
By far the BEST sushi in Portland.... Amazing food and service was spot on. Ice cold beer from a brewery next door. Miyamoto is a must try when in the Portland area. The Hungry Hardhat has spoken. So let it be written... So let it be EATEN.

Yelp
First time here, i like the environment, it's a classic sushi bar vibe, nice sake selection and interest fusion cocktails. One thing I noticed in the is some of the fish was unwrapped, and touching other fish uncovered fish, in other restaurants I love I notice types of fish are always separated unless it's scraps which is going to be used as filler for cheap rolls. I got shrimp tempura which was slightly crispy on the outside but at the same time flimsy, floppy, and a bit overly salted. I left about 3 of them behind. The Kaiso seaweed salad, was good. I liked the extra touch cured/pickled roots. The Ora King Salmon Hand roll, which is technically supposed to one of the select Salmons was poorly cut bits, with quite a few tough tendon/fatty bits to sort through. I left about half of it behind. I definitely wasn't full but didn't have much interesting to take the chance on other dishes. I recognize that I have a highly skilled sushi pallet so I'm sure they are fine for most, they definitely were busy, but sometimes popularity doesn't mean the best, it's likely a matter of value and location. I'd try them again, but at first glance I was not impressed by the food.

Bob W.

Yelp
Affordable spot that has been around for years. High quality sushi and the service is always really welcoming and helpful. Ripley was great and my wife loves the happy hour.

Sable G.

Yelp
hands down my favorite spot for sushi. I especially love sitting at the bar and getting suggestions from the chef. oishiiiii

Yelp
Our group tried a variety of traditional rolls, including the spicy tuna, the salmon, the unagi, and one of Miyamoto's speciality rolls, the Wassup B! (Hawaiian albacore tuna, cucumber, avocado topped with young Kona yellowtail, wasabi mayo, and wasabi tobiko). The traditional rolls were good, four stars, with the unagi ending up as our favorite, but the Wassup B! was simply terrible, hardly any taste of fish or avocado or rice, a flat-out wasabi bomb even after we did our best to scrape away the splashes of wasabi mayo. Given the price -- twice as much as the traditional rolls -- and the special cuts of tuna and yellowtail, we expected the wasabi to complement the fish, not completely overwhelm it. Mixed bag.
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
This place just continues to be great. Don't know what fish the chili ponzu sashimi was, but it was fresh, buttery, meaty. The fish in the rolls likewise fresh and tasty. Hadn't had the montivillan roll before, but like the other two was substantial and delicious. And having Roscoe's beers to choose from, is a big plus.

Dominica R.

Yelp
Amazing quality service very welcome really good quality food great service Everything I order was fresh. I love my spicy sauce felt very welcome quiet and relaxing night.

Yelp
Nice sushi spot with reasonable prices. Not overly trendy but has all the rolls you are looking for and a fun sake cocktail menu. Definitely recommend for the Montavilla neighborhood.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this sushi spot in my neighborhood. Great appetizers, solid sushi rolls. Always good service too.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place sometimes I order the "Wassup-B!" Because every time it's delivered I think .. did the waiter think we are friends? Throwing slang around? Nah it's just a funny playful menu! Great staff and friendly ! Some of the best sushi I've had in Portland! The location has great vibe too nice outdoor seating as well good ambiance

David H.

Yelp
Went for a birthday dinner and was NOT disappointed AT ALL! The service was quick and friendly and the sushi was super tasty. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Their happy hour rocks! $3 beers and $3, $4 and $5 plates of delicious sushi. I hate to race in rush hour traffic from Tigard to get there on time (it ends at 6 pm), but it was worth it. I ordered the edamame ($3), the monkey brain (stuffed avocado salad), which was $2 off for hh, pork gyoza ($5) and California rolls for $7. I also ordered 2 Sapporo's ($3) to wash it down with. Apparently my eyes were bigger than my stomach because I had quite a but leftover, which I let my guy friends eat. My guy friends are regulars and ordered boat loads of food, which they were able to finish (as well as mine). The restaurant is incredibly clean and looks way nicer on the inside (it's set among a hipster scene neighborhood). The staff was very nice and street parking as easy to find. There is a reason my friends come here every week and now I know why.
google avatar

SeAnna V.

Yelp
Pros: Sushi quality was great, we ordered through Roscoes (next door) which was awesome. Cons: sushi is cut pretty thick, difficult to eat in one sitting. Will Ask them to cut thinner pieces next time.
google avatar

Carrie D.

Yelp
Enjoyed the food, but I eat veggie sushi, so I can't say much for the regular sushi. Staff was very friendly and helpful when asking about the menu. The service was spot on. I would definitely go back and recommend to friends.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite sushi in Portland. Fresh. Good Portions. Reasonable Prices. Nice staff. Super quick service. Same quality you pay 2x for at the fancy spots in the Pearl. Monkey Brain Hamachi Roll Best Nigiri in PDX Order from the seasonal menu if you like the nigiri!
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
Hands down best sushi in Portland if not best sushi I've ever had! So much for your money here. The salmon is out of this world and the service was fantastic. Make sure to have Sam serve you she was so sweet. I also recommend getting The Black Tiger roll and the Smooth Hoperator roll.

Yelp
One of my first table service sushi restaurants, before we always went to conveyor belt sushi but they started getting pretty crappy after covid. We found this place in Portland and decided to give it a try, wow did this place NOT disappoint! Tbh, it was 8:00pm and we were pretty hungry, but I would totally come here again cause it's sooo worth it. Right from the bat the service was excellent. We sat outside under some nice covers with fairy lights, it was a nice warm breezy June day. The waiters were so nice and kind, and we got some cucumber water right away. The Black Jack roll is great for those who don't want raw fish in their sushi. It has lots of flavor and is a hearty roll, not one that leans towards "fresh sushi" but more towards "comfort sushi" To be honest, I am not a fan of wasabi, but eating the Wassup-B Roll was AMAZING! At first, the wasabi really got to me, but as I kept on eating it, the kick got nicer and pretty soon after I was happily eating it. It paired very nicely with the fresh fish and avocado. The Miyamoto Roll had some acidity from the chili ponzu and the pickled jalapeño that made it stand out from the rest of the rolls. Solid choice! The Montavillian was a fusion of fried comfort food and sushi. The crab and the fried onions went so well with the Cajun tuna! Delicious. The Billy Low Roll is simpler than the rest but what makes it unique is the pairing of textures of the Kabayaki sauce and tempura crunch. The kabayaki sauce can be a bit too overpowering with its sweet flavor but it really balances your taste buds with the other rolls! If I had to choose one out of these five to eat here again, I would probably go with the Montavillian or the Wassup-B! In all, this is my favorite table service sushi restaurant and I am looking toward to coming here again as my to-go sushi spot! High quality food and service, amazing atmosphere, and AMAZING SUSHI!

Yelp
The wait to be seated was abominable. It took about 30 minutes with nobody ahead of us, partially due to social distancing, but also due to lethargic serving staff. Once we were inside, things took a turn for the better. My wife ordered a glass of cloudy sake, the name of which I cannot remember, but was smooth and strong without being overpowering. We also split a Sake To Me (tastes like a habanero sake margarita), and the Geisha Tea Party (lemon + green tea + sake = amazing!). Some chicken karaage and California rolls for the kids kept them quiet and complacent, while my wife and I started with tsukemono and miso soup (as is tradition) and the Jalapeno Ninjas (which is not...but should be!). We followed up with the Mexican rolls (seriously, who ever thought of putting cilantro and pickled jalapeno on sushi is a genius!), a spicy tuna hand roll, and unagi with cream cheese. All the flavors were sharp, crisp and umami. Absolutely wonderful and crafted by a master. My only complaint is that you're going to be waiting a while to be served by that master! By the time we we're seated, we were virtually the only people in the restaurant, and it still took another hour and change for us to complete our meal, and most of that was wait time. Whether or not that was a fluke remains to be seen on our next visit, because I have to have those Mexican rolls again!

Yelp
i've been eating miyamoto's sushi here or roscoes next door for the last 10+ years. The sushi is always great. I've dined at plenty of belt sushi joints around town and they don't come anywhere close in terms of quality of ingredients and fish. This is my destination eatery east of 28th and I live all the way out in gresham. Easily in my top 5 portland restaurants

Yelp
Nice portions of fresh sushi! Been here several times and have never been disappointed. Staff provided quick and friendly service. Cocktails and Sake flights were great!

Yelp
Until yesterday I had mostly positive feelings about miyamoto. I live in the neighborhood and have ordered takeout from them fairly consistently for the last couple years when I am wanting a sushi dinner and not feeling like driving across town for an actual high end sit down meal. The fact is that there are dozens of better sushi restaurants in town but because of their location and convenience factor, I have had many take out meals from them. Miyamoto uses decent quality fish; about the same level of quality one can purchase in the seafood case at Fred Meyer's. (Based on the quality of the fish and ingredients I'd give them a solid 3 star review.) Honestly there are conveyor belt sushi joints in town that feature similar quality fish for that matter. But when I order from miyamoto that is pretty much what I expect to get and those expectations are essentially met which is why I have regularly ordered from them. Since the pandemic miyamoto has encouraged their customers to order on their website to save the business fees from delivery app sites. I have been happy enough to do this and because of my proximity to the restaurant have been ok with picking up my orders. In other words, I have done my best to accommodate the business' requests during these difficult times. Last night I placed a take out order that totaled $30 and was very surprised to see that I was charged a $3 "service fee". On the final receipt in my email the charge was itemized as a "10% takeout gratuity". I have to say that I am utterly bewildered as to why miyamoto feels entitled to sneak this charge into the final total of the order (there is literally no mention of the 10% charge on miyamoto's website until the checkout page (which is hosted by toasttab.com)). I ordered online and saved the business' employees the effort of having to take my order over the phone and take the time to process my payment. I showed up at the restaurant at the appointed time and picked up a bag of food (furthermore, the food I ordered was literally just cut up fish and rice; the preparation required very little effort, let's face it). In no way shape or form did any of the employees of the restaurant "serve" me so I have to say that it is a real insult to my sensibilities to be forced to pay an additional 10% on my bill for literally nothing. I am empathetic with workers in the service industry and understand how difficult these times are, which is why I always leave a cash tip when I pick up food from this restaurant. However, that is a gratuity based on my discretion and is meant as an act of generosity, not of obligation. Miyamoto ought to figure out how to properly compensate their employees and if that requires raising the prices on their menu items I feel like that is more palatable than sneaking wildly unnecessary charges onto customers' bills. To me this practice feels surreptitious and disingenuous. Bottom line is miyamoto has lost my business forever. There are dozens of better sushi restaurants in this town with better business practices that I will choose to support instead. It is a shame that my neighborhood spot is no longer an option.

I love this place!! I've been here almost a handful of times now and we're contemplating going back tomorrow - 2x in one week! I stopped eating sushi a few years ago because of a raw fish scare (after eating it almost daily) and Miyamoto was one of the first places I gave raw fish a try again! Definitely didn't disappoint. The monkey Brains are a must try - avocado stuffed with spicy tuna, California crab roll filling and topped with tobiko, seaweed salad and spicy mayo/unagi sauce). Soooo good and very filling for an appetizer (and only $7 for happy hour!). The chicken karaage - something I normally wouldn't order at a sushi restaurant was so tender and crispy. The specialty rolls we tried were so incredible, filling and full of fish. The Mexican roll has big eye tuna that melts in you mouth, and the Miyamoto roll has so many different kinds of fish! Can't wait to go back.
