Tour Through Nevada’s Weirdest, Wildest, and Most Wonderful Places | Eater Vegas

"Historic turn-of-the-century hotel in a mining town that trades on its haunted lore; guests can book themed rooms such as the notorious "Lady in Red" suite (rumored to haunt the fifth floor) or sleep in a room whose bed is an old-fashioned wooden wagon. The Victorian lobby—burgundy patterned carpet, frosted-glass chandeliers, and camelback settees—serves as the starting point for atmospheric ghost tours that recount tales like miners tunneling beneath the safe and the translucent, carbide-lamp–capped apparitions sometimes reported at the bar. The property blends period charm, local tragedy, and theatrical supernatural storytelling, appealing to visitors intrigued by history and eerie ambiance." - Janna Karel

11 Haunted Hotels Where You Can Rest in Peace

"Built in 1907 when the central Nevada town of Tonopah was at the height of its silver boom, the Mizpah Hotel opened its doors to provide a place to wow and woo potential investors from the East. It quickly became the town’s epicenter, and at five stories, spent 25 years as the tallest building in Nevada. The hotel was named for the sobriquet bestowed by a prospector’s wife on the first silver lode discovered in the region, a biblical reference meaning “to come back together with those you love.” The Mizpah’s fortunes fluctuated along with Tonopah’s boom-and-bust mining economy throughout the 20th century, and by 2000, it was shuttered. It went on to spend the next 10 years with its doors chained and windows boarded. But in 2011, the owners of several Sonoma wineries purchased the Mizpah, renovated it back to its former Wild West glory, and reopened the hotel in October of that year. The stained-glass windows, lighting fixtures, elevator, clawed-foot bathtubs, and the majority of the lobby’s furnishings are said to all be the originals from the 1908 opening.  The Mizpah has since gained a reputation for its fair share of ghosts, recently being recognized as the number one haunted hotel in the U.S. by USA Today. Several of the suites are named for some of its supposed permanent guests who haunt the room or its surroundings, with a plaque outside each room providing the grisly details. Stories include a senator whose body was hidden in a bathtub full of ice within the suite before his final election to allow fellow democrats to announce a replacement after his reelection; and the infamous Lady in Red, a 1920s-era prostitute strangled in a jealous rage by one of her johns at the end of the fifth floor hallway, whose ghost is said to leave behind the pearls that tend to mysteriously and inexplicably turn up around the hotel. An ornate book is displayed prominently at the front check-in, in which guests are encouraged to write about their encounters with the Lady herself, the children who haunt the third floor, and the various miners whose apparitions are said to make frequent appearances throughout the hotel." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

I just spent a lovely night in this historic hotel. Had a beer and burger in the bar with my dog at my feet. Lots of other well-behaved dogs were strolling the hotel and enjoying the public area. Great suite room with nice coffee bar. Super comfy beds. Be sure to stroll behing the hotel to see the old mining operation. Main Street has quaint shops and purveyors of outdoor gear and hardware. Thanks to Shavonne (sorry for the spelling) at the front desk for a very friendly welcome.

What a beautiful and eerie place. Yet the staff is anything but eerie. Alex at the bar takes care of people and has a great sense of humor, Mallory is the perfect cool registration girl with a great look that suits the lobby. And, I am not one to care about ghosts, but some shockingly strange stuff happened that made me double take and made my dog flee! Overall, it was the perfect stay. I can’t wait to go back and see the staff and the ghosts again.

I stayed at the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah on a solo trip with my two dogs, and it was absolutely amazing. From the moment we walked in, the historic charm and warm hospitality made us feel right at home. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and completely dog-friendly — not just tolerant, but genuinely kind and accommodating to my pups. The hotel itself is beautifully restored, filled with character, and you can feel the history in every hallway. My room was clean, cozy, and full of vintage charm without feeling outdated. The beds were super comfortable, and the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful — perfect for relaxing after a long drive. There’s something magical about staying in a place with this much history, especially as a solo traveler. It never felt lonely or eerie — just classic, comfortable, and full of stories. Even my dogs seemed extra relaxed! Highly recommend this hotel if you’re passing through Nevada. Whether you’re into history, looking for a pet-friendly stop, or just want something that isn’t a cookie-cutter chain hotel, the Mizpah is a true treasure.

There was a little mess up with the room. I asked for a room with a bathtub and they sent me to a room with a shower, so then I had to spend extra time to switch rooms and carry all my belongings to the new room myself. If you're specific about having a bathtub, bring your own plug or use a washcloth to take a bath. Fine dining? I ordered the lady cut prime rib. A huge disappointment! The prime rib was swimming in water on the plate. I only wanted vegetables, so they gave me soggy broccoli. Half the broccoli was overcooked and mushy. The bartender was very sweet and offered to get me another. I don't like wasting food so I ate it. She did bring me another plate to transfer the meat onto. Later She asked how it was and I said it was palatable. I still paid full price for soggy meat.

We stayed July 18 - 20, 2025, in room 506. While the room was a little tight, it was very nice. The only negative was the shower. The shower head needs cleaned or replaced and the tub drained very slowly. The breakfast was OK. Wish they really had hash browns. The Jack Dempsey restaurant was outstanding. The food was excellent, especially the Gouda mac & cheese. At approximately 0445, Sunday, July 20, we were awakened by the fire alarm. We went downstairs and found the lobby and bar area was flooding with water pouring out of the ceiling. We ultimately determined a guest on the second floor damaged the fire sprinkler in his room causing the second floor to flood. The guest was ultimately arrested by Nye County Sheriff’s Department. It took about 30 - 45 minutes to get the water turned off and the fire alarm to reset. The on duty clerk called additional hotel personnel in and they worked tirelessly to try and take care of the remaining guests. Brittany, I believe, the manager, came in and had coffee and pastries set up for us across the street at their sister hotel, the Belvada. They also opened their lobby for our guests to relax in until the situation was under control. The entire water system was shut off for about 1 hour. Brittany told the guests the water would be turned back on shortly and after about 15 minutes it was restored. We went back down to the lobby and get breakfast at about 9 and found all the furniture in the lobby area had been moved out and there were fans everywhere with staff vacuuming the excess water out of the carpet. Everyone has to realize this incident was on a very early Sunday morning and in a rural area. The staff responded quickly and did everything they could. I sincerely hope the other guests realize how unique this incident was. I want to thank the entire staff for how quickly they responded and went to work.

LOVED The Mizpah. I stayed for one night two weeks ago and booked a paranormal investigation that night. The hotel is beautifully renovated, dinner was delicious, and the staff was wonderful! I loved Melanie at the front desk, she also did our paranormal tour which I throughly enjoyed. I'd definitely stay again!

we had an awesome 2 night stay at the Mizpah. we highly recommend dinner at Dempsey's and the ghost tour. The hotel amenities were nice with the only small issue being internet connectivity for the smart TV. We will definitely be back.

Yes, got spooked. Me and my husband stayed at the Mizpah 3 years ago in late July 2022, for a stargazing trip. Unfortunately the nearby gas station had their bright outdoor lights pointed directly at the allocated spot to view the stars, seemed intentional tbh. Super disappointed, but not with the Mizpah. Anyways, we did not stay in one of the 'haunted' rooms, but that did not exclude me from having an experience I'll never forget. I was awoken abruptly one morning by a woman's voice softly, but clearly, speaking this one word right next to my ear, "Rose". Startled and confused, I got to my feet, looked around and noticed my husband was not one the room. Turns out he had gone out to grab a latte for me from down the road. I was a little freaked out for awhile, but that feeling dissipated fast enough. We did some sight seeing and exploring during the day, waiting for nightfall to stargaze again. All in all it was a pleasant experience, ect. Then came time to check out. We shared the tiny elevator down with a maintenance person, who, out of habit probably, asked if we experienced anything unusual. I decided not to say anything, by then I would have felt silly mentioning my little encounter. So we said "nope, have you?". What he said next shook us both. He mentioned that one day he was working in the basement alone, and a voice spoke out his name right next to him. He looked around and sure enough, nobody was there. Me and my husband just looked at each other, now we were both a little uneasy. I forgot to mention to you; my name is Rose. /Cue twilight zone music. Once I got home, with the encounter still on my mind, I found out that the 'Woman in Red' spirit, a prostitute murdered by jealousy in the Mizpah, was also named Rose.

Yelp
Beautiful Historic Hotel [Tonopah NV] We actually stopped by the Mizpah Hotel twice on our recent roadtrip: Friday, on our way to Las Vegas and Monday returning home. I've read stories and was fascinated by both its long history and the paranormal mysteries surrounding the hotel. The interior was welcoming. Guests were enjoying some libations in the spacious sitting area. Unfortunately, I was only able to admire the historic charm of the ground floor and peek inside the "vault" which served as a little museum. Our return visit was much more interesting. Inside, the song by Rockwell was playing, "Somebody's Watching Me." It was weird that that song would be playing. I was able to walk up to all the floors. There were plaques placed outside the suites that were once occupied by notable people during its time. I've listed a few: Second Floor - Tex Rickard, Room #201 (Boxing Promoter) Third Floor - Frank Scott, Room #301 (Revitalized the Mizpah) * Also on the third floor it was rumored that several child spirits have reportedly been seen and heard around the halls. Now when I was there there were two young kids (maybe in their early teens) who were running up and down the different floors... I'm not sure if they were helping with housekeeping, sometimes they would take the stairs, sometimes the elevator. They were playful, giggling and very polite when I'd catch them on the same floor. Were they real? smh ¯\_('~')_/¯ Fourth Floor - Wyatt Earp Room (#402) Fifth Floor - Lady in Red Suite, which today, her former room has been split into three, 502 - 504. A housekeeping employee I ran upon on the 4th floor offered to show me the Lady's Suite. We both took the elevator to the 5th floor (there's some haunted stories about the elevator too - you're just going to do your own research)... anyway, I had a chance to see inside the Lady in Red Suite. Sadly, she was murdered just outside Room 504 in a very brutal fashion, being strangled and stabbed several times by a jealous ex-lover. I wanted to see the basement too but it was off limits. Spirits of two miners were said to linger around the basement area. During my self-guided tour I only saw four people total in the entire building -- two housekeeping employees and the two children. Yelp
Here's the good news: Beyond beautiful hotel!! Gorgeous room, very clean. Claw foot tub was the best ever. Historical pics around the hotel were amazing. Here's the bad news: the FRONT DESK staff need a good training on professionalism. They weren't rude to me or anything, just VERY unprofessional which DID NOT MATCH the elegance of this hotel. I mean, I don't mind swearing, but staff using curse words and double flipping off their computer in front of me was kind of NOT okay. Also- the breakfast was good except.. they served it in styrofoam ??? Plastic cutlery?? Like "To GO " style even if you are eating there. WAY not cool. Dont cheapen the experience Mizpah !!! I wanted elegance and mostly got it... kind of.

Yelp
This place is great. Everything you want in an off the beaten path boutique/historic hotel. Engaging, professional staff...check. Historic, quirky vibes and top notch bedding...check. Tipsy, chatty locals at the lobby bar and a great burger...check. Yummy breakfast room with self-serve coffee and vegan options...check! If you're ever in Tonopah, The Mizpah is a slam dunk.

Yelp
Mizpah by definition means a watchtower. Or something of a godly power to watch over.a crossover stop that is worth viewing time and time again. A landmark historical building. Exterially structured like a rectanglly square elevator. Perhaps a place of holiness at one time. A Victorian style hideaway with a guest list of reoccurring Hollywood stars. Timelessly fitting for a revived ghost town called tonapah. A halfway point between a cats eye and a dogs life.
google avatar

Yelp
When in Tonopah you are restricted to just a couple dining options. This review is for dinner in the Jack Dempsey bar dining room. As expected from a 100+ year old restored hotel, the dark woods abound. Our server was nice and attentive throughout the evening. The food was good, but pricey. Started with the Bluecheese meatballs - just ok French onion soup - good (careful it comes out VERY hot) Chicken piccata - good Steak frites (steak with fries) - good Again, there are not a lot of options when staying in Tonopah, but to find a non-chain, good restaurant that you can actually dress up for (and who does that anymore?) is a good thing.

Yelp
My review is mainly for the bar area in the lobby. I only stayed at the Mizpah once back in 2017. I recall the room being very clean and comfortable, but for my work, far too small to pack in all my belongings. For the traveler however, perfect. Since 2017, I've stayed elsewhere but frequently come down here to eat at the bar and watch some Sports on TV. Jennifer is the bartender I've mostly interacted with, and she is just simply amazing. Very friendly and professional in her craft and a joy to talk to. I've also encountered many strangers who I've struck up some very interesting conversations with and one of the reasons I come here. It's a great place to unwind and to meet people from all over. Now, you can order the food at the bar just as in the restaurant. The food is excellent and plentiful. Last night I had the Mizpah burger and garlic fries. Trust me, it's a huge meal. Same goes for the Steakhouse burger. Every meal I've had here is prepared well. They have an excellent Chicken Caesar salad as well, and my coworkers love the prime rib night. If you like Mac n Cheese, order the Gouda Mac n Cheese and add the Jalapeños! Another dish that will fill you up. Thank you Dan and Linda for the tip! Now you don't have to partake in the spirits to eat at the bar, I just like sitting there to meet people for conversation. However, Jennifer make an excellent cocktail to complement any meal. They also have several varieties of the Cline Winery wine (they own the place :-)). The Lady in Red (which can only be purchased at the Mizpah) and the Old Vine are great choices for reds. If you're into history, the Mizpah is a perfect spot with plenty of stories to tell.

Yelp
Great, comfortable accommodations in Tonopah. Tonopah was a stopping place along our trip in Nevada. I saw The Mitzpah online, read the history, and knew we had to stay here. We reserved the Lady in Red Suite, hoping for a paranormal experience, but didn't have one. But the room was luxurious, very clean and super comfortable. We had drinks at the bar, dinner in Jack Dempsey's, and breakfast the next morning at the hotel. The staff was great, the service was wonderful and the food and drink were excellent. If you plan on spending the night anywhere in the area, this is the place to spend it.
google avatar

HOLLY P.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the Mitzpah Hotel. My BF and I each had a starter and an entrée. He had the French onion soup and the salmon with pistachio sauce and potatoes. The salmon was just a tad overcooked and the potatoes were pretty drab and needed butter. I had the wedge salad and the sauteed cod with garlic rice. The cod was delicious and perfectly cooked and the rice was cooked nicely, but had a little bit too much garlic. I wish the plate had a vegetable on it. I would definitely order my dish again. Our server was lovely and cheerful and very helpful. It was really a delight to eat at such a historical hotel. I hope to return in the near future.

Yelp
I don't know what has happened to the once jewel in the crown of Tonopah. Rooms are becoming sub-par. Stains on the bedspread, shower didn't look like it had been cleaned, leaking under bathroom sink. Service in the Pitman was not pleasant, one waitress seemed angry.

Karen K.

Yelp
I'll start out with the good point first. The lobby bar and restaurant are very nice. Good food and wine list, and Jennifer is outstanding. She was the only bartender AND waitress to a room full of customers. She never once got flustered and her service was amazing! I'd give the restaurant/bar 5 Stars. The hotel lobby is nice and we were really looking forward to our stay there, but a few things fell short of our expectations as shown in the attached photos: a bad odor in the hallway, general cleanliness of our room (it looked like the carpeting hadn't been vacuumed in a while), the top sheet had some sort of spotting on it, the bathtub porcelain was peeling and worn in places, the plastic shower curtain was yellowing, water leaked out of the cold water faucet at it's base, there were 6" pieces of 2x4s holding up the storm windows, and our heat didn't work. In addition, the elevator is very dark making it difficult to find the floor button.

Brad M.

Yelp
Beautiful old hotel, but discovered morning after our first night dried blood stains on the sheets. Clearly housekeeping simply makes the beds and does not change the sheets. Pretty disgusting and overshadowed what was otherwise an interesting and enjoyable stay.

Yelp
I came here to the Mizpah as a way to get away from the heat of Las Vegas into some slightly cooler weather. My wife and I chose this place due to the history of Nevada and wanted to be where there was ghost towns and explore. For the place itself; there is plenty of parking with spaces out back including a dirt lot out back that was clean. The inside of the hotel has a particular smell that I couldn't point out what it was but wasn't offensive. Our hotel room was clean and tidy with a mini Keurig! We enjoyed our quick stay here as we arrived very late and made a drive after I got off work. We went into the casino next door and played on the machines for a bit. We were able to "explore" the hotel for a little bit and experienced the staff here to be very friendly and take a lot of pride of their work. A sincere thank you to the staff of the Mizpah. This is a wonderful place to visit with so much history. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

Yelp
The good : bed was comfortable, streaming service on tv was good, breakfast in cafe was ok, bar area was ok, dogs allowed and old time furnishings makes it cozy. The Bad : small rooms, hot water in shower would NOT come out of the pipes, very dark lighting in room and bathroom, no dinner available in cafe, fast food only available in casino across parking lot, sound insulation in hallway was non existent. Do NOT stay on the 2nd floor. There is bar music from a jute box that does not belong to the hotel, it is in a leased area of the hotel and therefore the hotel has no control over it and this music can be heard all night on the 2nd floor. When we said something to the front desk about the music and the no hot water in shower the employee just said she would tell the maintenance person to check it out and the music she could do nothing about. We were staying only the one night so she was no help. Nothing was offered to compensate the problems we had.
google avatar

Bruce M.

Yelp
Owners successfully pulled it off. They managed to retain some of the "western old" with the modern to make the stay comfortable. Perhaps a bit too much about the haunted schtick, but that seems to be the tourist magnet in these parts. The bar is warm and inviting. A few items vegans could eat would be a great addition to their two restaurants

Tony S.

Yelp
We stayed here a couple nights had great time. Didn't see the ghost of my wife taught the elevator was haunted. L o l.

Yelp
This is a great 100+ year old hotel. And yes, it shows it's age. Much of the original decor is still there. Like old claw foot bathtubs and antique furniture. Yet the 2 queen room we shared was large with up to date amenities. Amenities they actually sold in their gift shop. We even had a separate area with a sink fir a coffee bar. No individual thermometer for your room. But the room was comfortably warm It too many electrical outlets for computers, etc Some restrictions.. bar/limited casino didn't open til 4. Restaurant opened at 5 and was open for breakfast but not lunch. Was a little disappointed in the restaurant decor ... looked like an old diner. It the limited menu offered good food. I opted for fish and chips and was surprised how good it really was (although the cole slaw was pretty bad). Breakfast the following morning was good. Service was great with limited staff There are many themed rooms. Legend says there are ghosts on the 5 th floor. We were on 2 ... they did not come down to visit Neat old hotel I would definitely stay at again

Yelp
what a place! a must when driving up or down nevada. slip into the past when hearty food, smiling faces and stiff drinks were the order of the day. a blast from the past

Yelp
Stayed here on our rural excursion exploring the extraterrestrial highway / rural Nevada. The hotel is really nice and cute. One of the oldest hotels (and formerly the tallest building in Nevada before Las Vegas came in). We stayed a night and it was a great stay. They have a casino next door and that was also chill. The front desk is helpful as well and were attentive to our needs. The room itself was nice and big. As others have said the windows don't fully open.
google avatar

Brandon N.

Yelp
This place was so great. It is gorgeous inside and out. You always wonder if one of these old hotels are going to be good or not. But it was perfect for me. With great nostalgia and a great room. Also the common areas are great with all the vintage and historical items around. We also had a drink at the bar and the bartender was fantastic.

Melissa H.

Yelp
Overall, a really cool hotel. The bed was amazingly comfortable and it was clean for the most part. The windows do not open, so no cross ventilation. The vent in the bathroom was filthy, it's really loud, my husband looked inside and the filter was black, meaning it hadn't been changed in a while. There is no bell service, but you can take a cart to you car and unload it yourself. The cart we used had two flat tires, a real bummer going up the ramp. No one smiles here. It's really sad. I didn't feel welcome. The slot machines are out of order here, but the casino club next door was nice, friendly helpful people.
google avatar

Joseph W.

Yelp
We've stayed here before but the woman working when we came to the bar during our drive from Reno to Las Vegas was an absolute workhorse. She made sure everyone felt comfortable & had a drink or food. This is the pinnacle of Nevada hospitality. Any Vegas or Reno casino would be lucky to have her. If she's working the bar every detail is taken care of. We were the results of her hard work. We waited to get a beer & wine. We were happy to wait out as it was obvious she was a taking orders in the order they happened. We will be back there again.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
We are currently sitting in the care here. It has been 20+ minutes and the servers have not even acknowledged us at our table. The service here is absolutely slow and the workers seem like they are purposely ignoring guests to drive us away. It's a shame because this hotel is so cool and the history is amazing. But this cafe is just such a bummer.
google avatar

Choxie C.

Yelp
This review is for The Jack Dempsey Room We stopped for dinner while traveling through town. The host sat us right away and was very friendly. Our server was great. She was funny and the service was great. My husband had the steak, and said it was very good. I had the Gouda Mac and cheese which was also very good. The prices are reasonable.

Yelp
This place is really nice. It's been completely updated functionally without loosing the original feel. It's quite lovely. An unexpected pleasure. There are a few things to be aware of... 1. The elevator does NOT serve all the rooms on upper floors. If you are not able to climb stairs be sure to verify you have elevator access to YOUR room. 2. There is an outdoor RAMP going up to the lobby area just past the main entrance. However getting through the double doors can require a person to help. Then I think it's a couple steps down to the registration desk. If someone is traveling alone and is in a wheelchair, you'd need to make arrangements for someone to help you avoid stairs. It's possible!!! They are very accommodating! 3. Refrigerators are NOT standard. They charge $10 extra for a refrigerator (which is also SMALL) and it's possible it might not be cold when it is delivered. I recommend you discuss this when making a reservation if you require a refrigerator. You may need to phone the hotel directly if you are booking online. The restaurant breakfast was great. But another guest mentioned they were staying "next door" and were very disappointed that they had not been able to get a room at the Mizpah because "the hotel next door is terrible". I didn't ask the name of the place. I'm only mentioning this because come on...in Tonopah NV...could any hotel be full? YES. The Mizpah had ONE room available when I booked the day previous to our arrival. And when I checked in I verified they REALLY were full. So if you want to stay here book it as soon as you can. Basically this place deserves the great reviews. So I won't repeat everything. I will encourage you to pick up and READ the little historical newspaper available at check in. They have more info on request. I will post pics of the additional info here. Our room 507 on the 5th floor had a king bed that almost filled the room. But it had enough space for everything and it felt very elegant! I love old ceilings! The AC was REMARKABLE in a VERY GOOD way. It was cold when we walked in. It was awesome! So I imaged heat is equally great. The nightstands were little antique looking tables with lift ups! See pictures. The bathroom was wonderful. They even included LIP BALM! I was thrilled! The hairdryer includes a nite light. These are small but nice things that make a guest feel special. But the real test is the bed and bedding which was LUSCIOUS! I'm pretty much a budget motel person. I rarely find amenities offered by more expensive chain hotels to be worth the price. But every now and then there is a place SO special that it is worth a splurge. The Mizpah is such a place. Even if you do not spend the night, stop in to the bar or restaurant or just meander around and IMAGINE the existence of this much elegance back in the GOLD RUSH days! I highly recommend at least visiting!!!! If you find this review useful please vote!

Yelp
Passing through Tonopah again on the way to Vegas and decided to stop at the Mizpah for a drink and some dinner after our short drive from Carson City. It was AMAZING once again! They have definitely been taking customers comments to heart and have made good changes since we were last here in December. First it's a great feeling when the bar-tender remembers and you, as well as your usual drink! The new carpeting brings a fresh and clean look to entire first floor, the piano was moved to their sister hotel, the Belvada across the street, and a few new high-top tables are available providing a place in the main bar where people who want to sit and eat with a bit of dining room comfort. But best of all the original, home-made Chicken Fried Chicken is BACK!! This home-style, hand-breaded butterflied breast, along with REAL home-made mashed potatoes is comfort food that hits the spot after a long drive. Thank you Mizpah and the Jack Dempsey room's chefs for one of the best chicken dinners in the State of Nevada! We love that you brought back the original recipe and can't wait to return on our way home another helping :) However, we stayed at the Belvada Hotel this trip but were given two complimentary breakfasts at the Pittman Cafe. After numerous bad experiences recently we were hesitant but gave it another try. Surprisingly we weren't disappointed this time. Service was timely and the food was good. In fact the Chef came out and personally asked us how are breakfast was and if it was made to our liking. It most certainly was but more importantly I didn't have to wait 30 minutes for the server to take our order. We were sat, coffee served and ordered taken within a reasonable amount of time. So again, thank Mizpah for listening to your customers and making changes needed.

Yelp
Passing through Topanah, NV we decided to stay in the Mizpah Hotel on a Saturday night (next time we may have to stay at the Clown Hotel). This is a very unique and historic hotel with a lot of old history. We asked to be put in a area that might experience some paranormal activity and were put in Room 501 on the 5th floor. Unfortunately, we didn't have any experiences out of the normal. There is a notebook in the lobby area that people write about their stay and paranormal experiences which is interesting to read. We did win on the slots next door at the Mizpah Casino so I guess we could consider they abnormal. This hotel is nice and staff is friendly. They have a bar near the check in desk along with The Dempsey Room that serves dinner and the Pitman Cafe that serves breakfast. Definitely, recommend you stay here if you are in route between Las Vegas and Reno, NV.

Yelp
Ifs a very nice old hotel, did a great job remodel it to current standard. We had a big room with 2 queen bed, very comfortable. Quite even it's facing the highway. It's dark in tune with the haunted hotel theme. Bathroom is small but adequate.

Yelp
I love the mizpah! Staff are accommodating and the hotel does make you feel like you're back in the early 1900s. Also love that I can take my pup and she can enjoy it as well. Did have one weird experience. I woke up with a nightmare, went back to bed, woke up with the same nightmare and while laying in bed my dog woke up and started barking at the corner wall. Could be coincidence but I wasn't about it haha.

Yelp
Had the most wonderful dinners at the Jack Dempsey restaurant. The first night Nicole was our server and the second night we had Brie. Both were delightful young ladies. It was my husband's birthday and they did a great job making it special. Everything was delicious. Nice surprise to find a place like this in a tiny mining town in the desert!

Yelp
Stains on the sheets in a king room we paid 180 for. The worst kind of stain you can imagine.

Yelp
Very clean, comfortable and accommodating. Recommend this to anyone. Good parking access too.

Yelp
People that actually don't ignore customers. Tried to eat at the cafe waited standing for over 5 minutes to be seated in the cafe, we were acknowledged but ignored. We walked out.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I booked a room at this hotel for 2 nights and only stayed in our room for an hour before we left. The hotel was nothing more than a disappointment. The first room they gave us wasn't even clean, housekeeping had never cleaned it from the night before, the 2nd room had no running hot water and only one light bulb that worked. They choose not to refund us fully, I would avoid this hotel at all costs!

Yelp
HOTEL is Classic going back to early 1900s, credibly paused experience great staff. Had a great dinner and breakfast, both meals were exceptional.

Yelp
Basically the experience came down to an uncomfortable room due to the AC not working, and the shower curtain not fully enclosing the bathtub \ shower. The onsite restaurant was ok and the service was pleasant. Not the greatest of food but ok. The cocktails we ordered (gin and tonic and a bloody mary) took a LONG time to get to us and they seemed extraordinarily average. Again, the room was just plain hot and the air conditioning just did not work at all. Many of the Yelp \ Expedia reviews mentioned this but I did not see them until it was too late (my fault for not doing my homework). On checking out the next day, the front desk guy seemed less than interested in my feedback and had a "what do you expect from a hotel this old" attitude. Not a hint of "we're sorry" or anything of the sort in his response. Just a shrug and a smirk. Shame on me for not doing my homework better on the reviews here. My advice to friends would be to visit during the day, take some photos, walk around the lobby, check the box that says you've been there, and then eat and sleep somewhere else. Not going back myself.

Yelp
This a very classy, old time hotel. Haunted? I stayed on the 5th floor, the supposed haunted floor. This place is creepy for sure. The room was very clean. Had a big claw foot tub. Every detail was on point. Feels as though you took a step back in time. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was silent. A great place to stay! Definitely an experience to check out!

Yelp
This hotel is very nice, with a sense of history and style. It's fun, with a small gaming area in the charming bar. There's a full casino next door. Food in the Jack Dempsey Room was excellent.

Yelp
We recently stayed here for an anniversary trip and will definitely return with our kids. The room felt very authentic, but included modern day luxuries. Dinner in the Jack Dempsey room is delicious, the Pittman Cafe for breakfast is the same and we were very impressed with the staff. As a family who lives in a 100 year old restored farmhouse, we appreciated the attention to detail and quality care the Cline family has put into this restoration. Plus, reading the Cline family supports their local Marine Corps Ball in CA and the pristine flag hanging in front of the hotel was a great finishing touch! So grateful a family with the means has put so much work and dedication into restoring this piece of history.

Yelp
The Mizpah needs to up their game. A meal should be included with the steaks. Also if it's fine dining why do they serve frozen chicken fingers on the kids menu. It should be homemade fresh chicken fingers. The food and beverage manager needs to pay more attention to the customers wants.

Yelp
We were excited about staying in this historic hotel, however right from check in things went down hill. The elevator did not work, which none of the staff seemed to know about. When they figured it out, they did not even offer to help us get our luggage up two flights of stairs. Then we got to our room. It was about 77 degrees inside. Went to thermostat, set to "cool" and set to 65 degrees. The room never cooled, and when we woke up the room was closer to 80!! I mentioned all this at check out, and asked if management could possibly give me a call, not that I was expecting anything, but would have been a nice courtesy. Never even received a call.

Yelp
Very old, remodeled and lovely. Rooms were clean and quaint. Jack Dempsey's Fine dining was just as it states. Fine dining, service A+++, food was fantastic. The cafe for breakfast was above par. Service excellent. Didn't get visited by any ghosts. If you are driving through this is the place to eat. If you are staying the night this is the place. Don't pass it up!!!

Yelp
The Mizpah is gorgeous. Very friendly, clean and full of old west charm. Breakfast in the hotel was also really good. Incredible service. I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
Really interesting historic hotel, nice staff, and good location. However: be sure to check your drain when you get into your room :( shower drain was CLOGGED with hair and gunk. My boyfriend showered and warned me it didn't drain well, I looked and seen the gunk so he went to the front desk and all they could offer was for a plumber to come out the next morning (this was 7-8pm.) I needed to shower since we made a long trip and camped the night before so my bf asked for gloves and removed the hair himself. Another guest had the same complaint. Hotel was beautiful but that was nasty. Room really clean, but I didn't do my research and the economy rooms don't have a fridge or micro. Anyways, otherwise has what you need.

Yelp
Our stay was exceptional! Wonderful history, and serene ambiance. Helpful and informative staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Meals in the Pitman Cafe were quite delicious and filling - fast service, and all waitresses were very nice. In regards to paranormal activities: this hotel just can't be beat. Many, many "extra guests" to add to the fun of staying in this beautiful building of early Nevada History.

Yelp
I arrived after 1 am to the hotel and had the most helpful and welcoming front desk clerk check me into my room. She saw me drag in my huge suitcase and warned me that the hotel didn't have an elevator but if I chose to stay she would gladly help me with my suitcase. She was so sweet, I didn't get her name though. I have to look through my receipts to find it because I want to mention her in my review. I've never had such wonderful front desk customer service like hers. I had booked a queen size bed through Booking.com because all I wanted was a comfortable place to sleep but after thinking about it for a while I really wanted a tub to soak my tired body and recharge. I asked the young lady if there was any way I could upgrade to a claw foot tub and for 10 more dollars she upgraded me to a king size bed with that tub. I got a big room that had 2 huge windows that let in some light from the neon signs outside and it just blended in with the ambiance of the place. I had just the right amount of light peek in and didn't need to turn on my light when I needed to get up in the middle of the night for bathroom trips. My room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. I slept like a baby. The decor is minimal but very quaint and old fashioned. Wrought iron beds gives this place a very homey feel. This is my second time staying here and I absolutely love it. The place has a haunted mysterious history and if you're up for a night of adventure book rooms 514-519. I'm sure you have to book those rooms in advance because people take those up quick. I'm thinking of doing just that when I stay there next time!

Yelp
Of all the years we've driven by here from Vegas to Reno, we finally decided we needed to stay the night! After watching a Youtuber visit here and do overnight investigations in and around the infamous room 502, we knew we had to try and get that room. We got a room on the 4th and it was great. Rooms aren't very big, but it served it's purpose. Beds are comfortable and decorated very "period" time. Built in 1907. Updated bathrooms though. The lobby area and small cafe were cozy. A very cool bank vault right off the lobby that you can walk through, past the huge vault door. A few poker machines in the lobby bring a modern sight to Nevada hotel lobbys. If you get a chance to get here, and you enjoy ghost hunting, definitely try and get room 502. Plenty of you tube videos on this room, and the Lady in Red. Unfortunately, we didn't have any experiences on our visit, but it was a very nice Hotel that we'll definitely stay at again.

Yelp
Tonopah, Nevada. Timestamp: Sept 2020. Access/Roads: Paved off of the main drag in small town Tonopah. Parking: Plenty on street and private lot. Costs: Free to visit. $75/night to lodge. Hours: 24/7. Terrain/Weather: The Nevadan high desert regions are really cold during winter & scorching hot during summer. Rain, snow & high winds should be expected during non-summer months. Temp in April @10am was 36F (1C) Temp in Sept @ 2pm was 100F (38C) Handicap: Distance: Tonopah is desolate. Small old mining town that is relegated to gimmicks and seclusion. Tonopah is 366 miles (590KM) from Los Angeles, California. North of Site: Reno, Nevada @ 230 miles (370KM). South of Site: Las Vegas, Nevada @ 210miles (340 KM) East of Site: Ely, Nevada @170 miles (290KM). West of Site: Bishop, California @120 miles (193 KM) Things to do for the healthy in the hotel: -Hotel stuff (sleep, gamble, etc.) -Ghost/Paranormal Activity since Mizpah markets itself as the "Most Haunted Hotel in America." You won't do much with this cause ghosts do not exist. -decor photography. Outside Hotel: -Stargaze at stargazer park. -Get butt drunk -More paranormal stuff next to the Clown Motel/open access old time graveyard. Tonopah is a puny, sleepy town. Mostly something you just drive through going from Vegas to Reno. There are many nature related things few hours away from this hotel and can be used as a staging point or middle point. Here is a general list: -Great Basin National Park (East). -Lunar Crater (East) -Hot springs (east and west). -Bishop and Sierra Nevada Mountain Range along with all the lakes (Mammoth) is West. -Yosemite, Kings canyons, and Sequoia is west. Immpassible during Dec-April ish. -Hawthorne ordinance museum is one hour north. -Area 51 and all the junk is east-south. -Northern sector (meteor crater/scotty castle) of death valley is south. Yelp
Mood- Haunted History First I need to set up the story of this hotel during our little haunt. I was sitting outside taking pictures across the street as all Yelpers do. Then I seen 2 employees wearing T-shirts that said Most Haunted Hotel in America. Well anyone who truly knows me, knows I had to inquire. And just like that - I was given personal accounts of paranormal activity along with malevolent stories to make even the thickest of skin crawl. So I had convinced my family lets take a look as it was just next door. As we walked up to the famous hotel we did not know what we would encounter, but we were open minded enough to allow whatever was to happen. This hotel was built and open for business in 1907 - was considered the luxury hotel of its time. Many celebrities from all walks of life spent time here. The hotel closed its doors in 1999. The Clines bought the hotel in 2011 and began the renovations that are seen today. However, you cant always update something with a past like this Hotel and not expect to awaken some things that have been waiting. Upon entering we walked around casually. The vault serves as a small museum area with period history articles from the hotel itself while it was in its hay day. This is where we started to feel the activity. One of the employees encouraged us to entertain the different floors as each has its own history of paranormal activity. 5th floor the Lady in Red, 3rd floor the children running thru, and of course the elevator. Mr. Walter himself. We were instructed to acknowledge Mr. Walter - to say thank you ect. Whom am I to go against the grain. Well I felt Mr. Walter in my hair as he stood in the corner of the elevator doing what he has done for years. Being an elevator conductor. On the 3rd floor we had the opportunity to meet with a worker, who told us, that she doesn't ride the elevator anymore, due to Mr. Walter not letting her out, the fire dept had to come and open it up. Even though when they got there, and attempted, it opened on its own. So many nooks and crannies with high levels of energy. Moments of heavy chest, and the best - moments of " DONT" so I'll admit I even tapped out in certain areas. And I am definitely not faint of heart. To this day you can rent the rooms where so many horrible atrocities have occurred. Murders, Deaths, Suicide, so much uncontrollable after life encounters. Would thoroughly recommend - pricing for the rooms are reasonable. Staff is very friendly. Just chat up the employees to get real life accounts of what is to offer beyond the unseen here. And don't forget to acknowledge Mr. Walter for your ride in the elevator. Location Main/ Brougher St- Tonopah - ample parking
