"Ingredients are presented before frying begins: vegetables from Takagamine and Shūgakuin, seafood from Awaji and Shizuoka. Safflower oil is used to achieve a light tempura coating. While some items, such as shrimp and conger eel, are fried on their own, other items are ingeniously paired, such as sesame tofu with sea urchin, wagyu with perilla leaf, and egg yolk with caviar. Gracious hospitality accompanies." - Michelin Inspector

Overall the experience was very good. The staff was incredibly attentive and the kaiseki set menu very diverse and with some nice fancy platings. Having said that, not all dishes were equally strong. The fatty tuna was not as good as expected (we had much better elsewhere in more affordable places). For our liking there were too many courses with soup or broth (the Shabu Shabu felt like a less elaborate sophisticated choice despite the Wagyu it had). As a positive last point we had indicated that it was our anniversary and they made a special arrangement to celebrate that for us. Very cute thanks! Thanks for the beautiful night!

Beautiful seafood restaurant located at the Ritz-Carlton. Service, location and food were all incredible. Local delicacies in a set menu. Reservation recommended.

Had an amazing lunch at the tempura counter, can’t state how amazing this place is, the food, the ambiance and the staff are all amazing, worth stopping by, one of the best meals we’ve had since arriving in Japan

I’ve dined at many Michelin star restaurants in NYC. The lunch tempura meal, with Taisuke Kojima, was the first 10/10 I’ve ever given. The pacing, portion, service, were all exceptional. Of course all of the food was amazing. Chef was very personable, and you can tell he really puts precision in his work.

A few of us dined at the tempura counter for what was one of our best dining experiences in Japan. The tempura set menu was excellent and it is of course interesting to watch the chef in action, preparing all the dishes. Presentation and service was impeccable. There is of course an excellent selection of wines / sake to accompany the many courses. Well worth a visit!

Can't believe we have not tried the omakase at Mizuki sooner. We are glad we did. My Japanese friend helped us to make the reservation for 5 people at 5:30pm. We did not know it was located inside the Ritz-Carlton hotel until before going there. The food and services are incredible. The decorations of the food are simple (different than other omakase we have had in the States), but the quality is phenomenal. The dessert is to die for, I looked at the ice cream plate in front of me and thought I might pass. I was wrong. It was so good!!!! The price was reasonable compared to the restaurants we have had in the US. Thank you, the chef and staff, for a great meal and experience.

I was disappointed with the quality of the food, however the service was excellent and atmosphere was beautiful. We went with their 10th anniversary course menu, not cheap. We don’t mind paying for good food. The service was attentive and friendly from the minute we walked in to the minute we left the restaurant. The atmosphere was beautiful, romantic and elegant. The food presentation was beautiful and detailed. We started with a seafood carpaccio with caviar, salmon roe and Ume sorbet. It was our favorite, a mix of beautiful colors, refreshing and citrusy, loved the addition of the sorbet it added a nice texture profile. Next came the tempura which was our other favorite, lightly fried and not overcooked. The next two courses unfortunately were disappointing, the wagyu beef was cooked well however it wasn’t marbled and it wasn’t soft and tender. The last course was sushi, the rice was falling apart, the fish wasn’t cut properly, one end is thinner than the other end and there’s no wasabi. We never had sushi where there’s no wasabi between the rice and slice of fish. Not sure if this was purposely done this way or the chef just forgot? Overall, it wasn’t Ritz Carlton standard in our opinion.

Google
Another amazing 1* Michelin Restaurant - better than the one at Ritz Carlton Osaka! From a price to experience comparison, this one beats the other experience hands down. Somehow the food was better when paired together with 3 different types of salt, lemon, and tempura sauce. Service was also better as the staff interacted with you and you get to see the sous chef prepare for the tempura chef right in front of your eyes. The taste of their tempura set dinner course hit the spot with every spoonful you take, as the chef explains each dish and how it should be best enjoyed. There are various side courses that come along the dinner service (Tofu, Sashimi, Salad) and they serve you a welcome champagne upon arrival if you drink. You get a choice of the final rice dish (up to 3 options if you chose the premium set menu) which includes an Uji egg with caviar on rice. Friendly team, great service and amazing taste! Go get it!

Yelp
MIZUKI was one of the culinary highlights of our trip to Japan. Nestled in the lower level of the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto, the restaurant is divided into a couple of different styles of cuisine. (Sushi, Kaiseki, Tempura) For our meal we went with the premium tempura set. Service was extremely attentive, and we were seated at a small bar face to face with the chef in a similar way to how you might experience omakase sushi. Highlights of the meal were the tiger prawn, sweetfish (funnily more bitter than you would think!), and the A5 Wagyu cut. The chef was nice enough to recommend for each item the recommend salt and or sauce from the assortment provided, and he didn't steer us astray a single time. This will definitely be on our list the next time we visit Kyoto.

Yelp
Mizuki is located in the Ritz Carlton in Kyoto and listed in the Michelin guide as a top pick for tempura. It had a Michelin star recently, but they lost the star in 2024. Mizuki has different seating settings for kaiseki meals, sushi meals, and tempura. The aesthetics are beautiful as can be expected by the Ritz Carlton brand. The restaurant and hotel are second to none. As I was walking through the hotel, I felt vibes from that wedding scene in Crazy Rich Asians. Service is also top notch. Our seating for tempura was counter seating. We watch the chefs cut up and fry the food in front of us. As they served the tempura courses, they explained what they were and what seasoning to use. We went for my wife's birthday and they concluded our meal by showering her with red petals and offering her fruit plate with a "happy birthday" chocolate piece. She was so happy. Food was good. We wanted an amazing tempura experience that we couldn't get in California and we feel that we got it. Great textures, light crispiness, and one to two bite courses. They had large prawns that they dispatched and made into two courses. They made tempura with regional veggies and starches that we appreciated. Their bite of omi wagyu with shiso leaf and wasabi was awesome. They finished the meal with kakiage - I had it over rice as a mini ten don plate. My wife had hers with dashi broth and rice. I think that everything we had was really good, but the price was very steep for their food and drink menus. Reservations can be made a few months in advance through TableCheck, which I was able to access through the Michelin Guide webpage.

Yelp
This high-end restaurant is nestled within the Ritz Carlton in Kyoto, a beautiful building of traditional style and modern design. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and has accents of water and flourishing greenery. The staff, as expected of a Ritz Carlton, are extremely friendly and attentive. We had a private tempura omakase here and it was delicious. Extremely fresh ingredients, delicious pairings, and quite the experience.

Yelp
We have eaten breakfast here all week and they have been great. They are on the lower floor of the hotel. We have had the Japanese style breakfast each day but today I tried the western one. It was a nice change . It started off with a salad that had crab and salmon in it. Such a nice surprise. I asked to have 3 eggs over easy but they came out medium. Still ok. The service here is amazing. They are so friendly and understanding since we don't speak Japanese. I highly recommend this place especially if you are staying here.

Yelp
Quite an incredible restaurant in the basement of the Ritz, and gets more impressive as you work your way through the menu. We opted for the Tempura bar and were blown away by the creativity and taste of the food. The sake selection was also top notch!

Yelp
Located inside the Ritz Carlton, the restaurant is beautiful. We went there for the sushis and we were not disappointed: one of the best sushi meal I ever had. Wine selection is limited but spot on, and service is impeccable.

Yelp
During our visit to Osaka, we had the opportunity to try the traditional Japanese breakfast at Mizuki. From the moment we entered the restaurant ambiance, service and presentation set the stage for an excellent meal. The breakfast consisted of three courses, each with a variety of traditional Japanese dishes. Starting with the vinegar rice and grapefruit shots to cleanse the pallet and open the appetite, the waitress, dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono, served miso soup with tofu and accompaniments. The main course consisted of a vast variety of sub meals, ranging from sashimi, beef, and pork to raw egg and more. Each dish within the course had a unique taste and by the end you felt as though you had experienced the entire spectrum of Japanese tastes and mediums. For anyone staying at the Ritz, I would highly recommend taking the opportunity to experience this taste of Japan!

Yelp
We looking forward to visit here since we heard that newly coming hotel the Ritz Carlton Kyoto has a sushi bar in it. Because In Kansai area we had rare good sushi bar especially in Kyoto. Because we visited here before Christmas, we must made choice only from 2 sushi course. Finally we concluded that sushi chef was excellent . He once worked at the Ginza Kyubee(銀座久兵衛) one of the great sushi bar in Japan. But he must worked inside the Hotel's rule. Sushi was so so. Prices was ¥50.000 around. I don't recommend to the foreign tourists to order in a seasonal fixed menu like us. 2015.25th may sushi chef shuiti inoue died from traffic accident.I sincerely thank condolences.

Yelp
12/09/2017 2nd time here, update Overall, this meal was very good! I went into it a little hesitant because last time I got the wagyu beef bowl which was still good but didn't live up to expectations. I was also here for breakfast and didn't think it was of much. This time however I got the tempura don and it was amazing. Tempura bowl 天丼 Comes with miso soup. The tempura is beautiful, skin is light airy and crispy. Sometimes tempura is too thick or soggy or doused in oil which just tastes bad. This one though is delicately fried with barely any oil - it's very good. The insides (shrimp, sweet potato, corn, carrot, lotus) are perfectly cooked. The sauce is light as well and slightly sweet. It's very liquid which helps moisten the fried tempura. The rice is fresh and it's not too dry not too wet. 12/06/2017 Breakfast. Needs reservation. I think you can only have breakfast here if you stay at The Ritz Carlton. Reserve rice or congee in advance. Overall, it's good. The environment is calm and spacious. There's a small beautiful terrace outside. Service is spot on and they accommodate a range of requests. The food isn't outstanding, however. (1) Starts off with a grape and vinegar shot. If you're not used to Asian flavors (especially Japanese traditional flavors), you're probably not going to like the vinegar drink. They're both good, however (2) salad Choice between sesame dressing or Japanese soy dressing. I chose the Japanese soy dressing - light and refreshing. Salad was mostly radish, with a couple cabbage leaves, a broccoli, a cherry tomato and a slice of sweet potato. Everything was good except for the broccoli which was too hard to chew. (3) breakfast, congee If you ordered steamed rice, it comes in a large pot (as pictured). Wow, this is a big breakfast. Looks good. The best part was probably the tofu dessert (add in honey on the side). The omelet was good too, but not soft enough and a little too salty. The fish is flavorful but not fresh enough.

Yelp
This place is unreal. The best sushi I have ever eaten. Period. One caveat. It's expensive. So, don't think you are getting away with a cheap meal. You will pay quite a bit. However, if you're ok with going all out, this meal will make you rethink your sushi standards. Plus, the dessert is amazing.

Yelp
@ Ritz Carlton. Enough said. Very nice atmosphere, superb service, incredible food, and the price that comes with it. For the set meals, it ranges from about $140-$210/person not including drinks, mandatory 15% gratuity, and tax. The service providers at the Ritz Carlton speak English very well. Our chef was Chisaki Iba. She was very personable, and she showed great culinary knowledge of seafood. I think I learned more about sushi in this one meal than I did in 4-5 sushi videos on YouTube. I had a very pleasant experience.

Yelp
Decor, food, presentation, and service here are all top notch!! The drink menu is also extensive with wines from around the world, many different types of sake, beer, etc. We did the tempura tasting which started off with some sashimi and then a variety of tempura, each lightly fried and included with different salts to dip them in. The Japanese shrimp and beef tempura were the best in my opinion..both were phenomenal.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I was a general producer of non-profit event named TEDxKyoto 2014, which featured the late chef of Mizuki and Sushi Maestro Shuichi Inoue. His talk is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exSjvRBNdbo . I cannot find a word to express how these Sushi are good. They are just amazing. Atmosphere is marvellous. Sake and wines are incredible. Concierge speaks perfect English (not like me ;-) I strongly recommend you to visit Mizuki when you traveled to Kyoto.

Yelp
Service and food both 100%! Captured the seasonal cuisine of Kyoto and the staff took exceptionally good care of us. Very nice modernized traditional interior decor.

Yelp
Goodness, what a treat. We came with our two baby daughters and the waitress was super sweet. She was very warm and attentive to us too. The FOOD. It was all good. You can't go wrong. Tuna sashimi and Wagyu beef fillet over rice were the highlights. One of my fav meals in Japan.

Yelp
This is the Japanese restaurant at the newly-opened Ritz Carlton Hotel in Kyoto. The restaurant fit out, in keeping with the rest of the hotel, is absolutely stunning and impressive in the attention paid to detail with views out to a wall of rocks and plants. We were served sushi prepared fresh in front of us by a very attentive sushi chef who told us all about what she was preparing as well as giving us tips for what sights to see in Kyoto (in perfect English fortunately!). The food and service was of an excellent standard and I highly recommend it if you're lucky enough to find yourself in Kyoto.
