We had a reservation at 5, but arrived earlier and were able to be seated right away. It was a Thursday during their happy hour (3:30-5:30pm) which is 40% off all menu items except MP fish, specials and sashimi. The happy hour prices are totally worth it! We tried the agedashi tofu - lightly breaded, medium soft tofu with a side of Yuzu/Ponzu. We also had the shishito peppers which were delicious and had a kick of heat/spices. Not pictured was a bowl of miso soup, pretty standard in traditional miso flavoring. Our main entrees were the lemon roll, yellowtail special roll and cucumber protein roll. The lemon roll was delicious, very light lemon flavor. The yellowtail special roll was also very flavorful - topped with a de-seeded jalapeño with a drop of sriracha on top added nice heat and complemented the yellowtail. Our final roll was a cucumber protein roll (no rice) and is made with assorted fish. Other than a slight challenge to pick up the softened cucumber, it was a great alternative to traditional rolls! We recognized that the restaurant was shortstaffed, so we didn’t mind any wait when it came to our server being occupied with a few larger groups in the restaurants. Our server was very kind and helpful. The restaurant space is pretty cozy, only one restroom in the back, but there is a public restroom a short walk from the restaurant if that one is occupied. Wheelchair accessibility will be a tight squeeze in some spaces. I would come back to this restaurant again, but only for the happy hour prices based on atmosphere, food quality, and ambiance.

Mizuki Yama is incredibly amazing! The sushi is super fresh and delicious. The place is super clean and the staff is so friendly and professional. they don’t rush you at all. They are happy to answer any questions about the menu we had since it’s our first visit. Their dishes seriously delicious. Plus they’re open every day, which is super convenient. If you’re craving good sushi in San Diego, definitely check this place out!

Google
My wife and I have been looking for a good sushi spot in North County and have finally found it! The sushi, atmosphere, and service is all top notch! Everyone there is super nice, Yuna was our hostess and made us feel super welcome! And the sushi is incredible. The Del Mar roll and the Tempura California roll are our two favorites so far, but we’ll be back plenty often to try them all!

Google
It’s been my favorite place since they opened. Best garlic edamame and super Mexican roll. The happy hour is really happy. My favorite place

Google
A small traditional sushi bar with a large menu selection. Entrees include udon, Bento boxes, Donburi and sushi rolls. They have happy hour specials for both Sushi and drinks, but they are at different hours of the day. The large selection of fresh sushi fish was a delight and very tasty. They have a very busy dinner time crowd but afternoons aren't crowded and a great time to visit even on weekends. Seating areas include a lovely outdoor patio, indoor booths and a traditional sushi bar.

Google
Great sushi and awesome service! My wife and I really enjoyed happy hour.

Google
Had sashimi tempura salmon teriyaki combo. Very generous portions. Each item was delicious. Comes with miso soup and salad and 2 gyoza, also wonderful. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Google
Exceptional sushi. Fish is fresh and high quality. Moved to Del Mar in 2020. Found this gem and started going or getting takeout every couple weeks. Having lived in Manhattan for almost 15 years I struggled to find consistently great sushi -Gari and Seki are amazing for special occasions. This place never missed. Not once. I stick to nigiri for the most part. After being back east for many months I returned this week for lunch and sat at the counter. Fatty Tuna, Toro, and a special seared fish they offered on the house. Remarkable. They also gave me a cucumber and octopus salad -like bonchon, that was incredible.

Yelp
Service was very good and the food was exceptional The inside of the restaurant was very clean

Yelp
Service was fast, food was brought out quickly and was tasty, in addition to being cheap. Would come again.

Yelp
This is my new favorite sushi place. They have happy hour for 30% off 3:30-5:30pm every day of the week, and I really could come here every day of the week. One of my favorite appetizers is vegetable tempura, and it's always good here. The batter is light and crispy, and the veggies are well cooked. They aren't too hard or thick. I've tried the lemon roll, crunchy roll, and phillips roll. The ingredients taste fresh, and the rice isn't mushy. I don't have a favorite of the 3 because I enjoyed them all. They also don't skimp on the ginger which I love. There is usually plenty of parking because this area has a structure, and the service is very quick and friendly!

Yelp
My daughter was craving Unagi Donburi so I searched online for the nearest sushi restaurant that had this dish. One thing you should know is if it's not on the menu and you ask a restaurant to make this dish, it's not the same. Luckily this restaurant has this on their menu so we had to come and check it out. My daughter was a very happy camper and loved her Unagi Donburi bowl. For $24.95, it was a large portion. We also ordered the Firecracker Roll and two salmon sashimi. I especially love the salmon sashimi because it came in martini glasses. Love the presentation! Our server was extremely attentive and sweet. We will definitely come back here again, especially when my daughter has a craving for the Unagi Donburi!

Yelp
Had an unpleasant lunch here recently which was both surprising and disappointing. I didn't like the lobster roll (it was strange) or the ako ramen, which had two tiny pieces of meat and a smattering of unevenly sliced random veggies (onions were undercooked, which is a particular peeve of mine). My son liked his kuro ramen, though (thus the two stars) but said the broth was heavy and strange (not in a good "rich and strange" way, either, a la Shakespeare). One hot tea (bagged) is $4.50...our entire meal for two at $85 (before tip) IMO was not a good value. Service was ok but atmosphere was a bit stressful even though it wasn't busy.

Yelp
Went here for lunch. No lunch specials, but everything is more expensive in One Paseo. The food was good and pretty standard for Japanese. The sushi stood out to me as the cuts of fish for the sushi were very high quality and sizable. The place has a family owned vibe. The combos (pictured) provide a good opportunity to try a few different things.

Yelp
I am new to the whole sushi game as I recently outgrew my allergy to fish (still allergic to shellfish though) - And I am obsessed! I've tried a few new places since I've been able to indulge and Mizukiyama has quickly become one of my favorites. Located in Del Mar at One Paseo, you do not need to worry about parking as there are two large parking structures in the plaza. Rates for parking have recently changed so be advised before visiting. The service at Mizukiyama is top notch - From the second you walk in, to the minute you leave, every single person is providing service with a smile. On our last visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Sam, the new head chef, and he is an absolute gem! He added an extra touch of excitement to our meal as we sat and enjoyed a wonderful conversation as he whipped us up some delicious eats! Shout out to Sam! Since I still cannot have shellfish, my options are a bit limited, but trust me, you will not have an issue finding something that suits your palate. First, if there are Shishito Peppers on the menu, you bet that I am ordering these - Perfectly pan fried and topped with Garlic, Soy Sauce and Red Peppers - My favorite appetizer! A close second is the Garlic Edamame or the Chicken & Veggie Gyoza. Now that I'm hooked, I will never say no to a Philadelphia Roll - Crafted with White Rice, Avocado and Cream Cheese with a Beautiful (and generous) slice of Salmon on top - Add a swirl of Wasabi and Soy Sauce and you have yourself the perfect bite! Next up is the Yellowtail Special Roll - Yellowtail and Cucumber inside the roll with a fresh slice of Yellowtail, Jalapeno and Sriracha on top - Nice little kick if you enjoy some spice! If you're going to go for a third Roll, it should be the T.N.T - Spicy Tuna, Cucumber and Green Onion inside topped with a lovely piece of Seared Tuna and Pickled Onion - Perfection! And you cannot go wrong with the 2-piece Fresh Water Eel! Dine in, take out or order for delivery! Lucky for me.. it's within walking distance!

Yelp
High quality Japanese food with a cozy decor! The 2-item entry, yakisoba and tiger roll were all great. Service was attentive and friendly too!

Yelp
I would give it more than 5 stars if I could!! Been here twice now with my partner and it has officially become our favorite sushi place PERIOD. The food is amazing, sashimi is always fresh, service is just as amazing as the food. Last time we went, we tried some of their specials on the board, and their el toro and red snapper reminded us of a really nice omakase place we went to. Except of course the portion and price were much better here at Mizukiyama Sushi. Also the vibes in here are top notch - the chefs Sam and Justin, the servers (beautiful ladies), and the overall environment were honestly so special! Safe to say, we will be coming back very often

Yelp
In an already cozy run outdoor place with lots of choices. We were craving sushi and walked in to take part of the daily happy hour. The service is top notch. The staff the cooks. A nice sushi bar and more. It is on the pricier side but they have a happy hour window where all is 30% off. What a deal. We started with the tuna sashimi. These tuna cuts are gorgeous. Beautiful color and size. Not some little small cut overly priced. Instead a perfect slice of heaven. The lemon roll was absolutely fresh and the zing cleansed the pellet because I definitely needed it. The spicy chicken was not what I was expecting. I like spicy food but this was more of a Korean type dish with a fajita spin. It was spiccceeeeyy. But I loved it. I didn't take much leftovers to go because it hit my spicy window for a week. Would order everything again. We want to come back and try more rolls and get more of that sashimi. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
For a mall restaurant in Del Mar, this place is solid with very reasonable prices. The staff is super sweet as well, and there's plenty of seating inside and out. They have everything from bento boxes to ramen, and sushi! We tried the uni (fresh market price was $22/2 pieces), hamachi kama (generous portion with crispy skin), the dragon roll (good unagi) and mizukiyama special (underwhelming).

Yelp
I came to One Paseo to get some Christmas gifts and decided to stop for a quick bite at Mizuki Yama, and I must say, I'm STILL extremely impressed! From the food, to the service, everything was PERFECT! My server, I believe her name is Marra (sorry if I got it wrong) was so kind, intentional, and made sure I had everything I needed. The chef, Sam, was incredibly friendly and ensured my food was as delicious as it looked! I got the Firecracker roll, and will DEFINITELY be back and will bring my friends! Thanks crew at Mizuki!! :))

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious! My son, who rarely finishes his meals, devoured his ramen noodle soup. We also loved the hand rolls and sushi rolls--the fish was incredibly fresh. A fantastic dining experience!

Yelp
15-May-2024 We decided to have a lunch date so we tried MizukiYama Sushi in Carmel Valley. so good! Service is fast and food is delicious. The parking is always hard at One Paseo at lunch time, but make your way to try this food and you will happy you did! Thanks, Ashley & Lindsey Head

Yelp
If I coild give it 10 stars I would! Phenomenal food!!!! Super fresh high quality sashimi cuts! You know its a great place when they offer hamachi and salmon collar. Sam, my sushi chef is amazing!! Excellent suprises and authentic conversation. What a great person and he prepares such wonderful dishes. A true artist and pleasure to dine with. He made my experience special and personal. A rare quality to be cherished. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Love this spot. We went there for valentines day and it didn't disappoint. Always a great time and amazing happy hour.

Yelp
Mizuki Yama is an amazing sushi/sashimi restaurant that's been in OnePaseo since the beginning. My family has been coming here for many years and almost always order eel/chirashi/sashimi donburis which we absolutely love! Service is very good with helpful, polite waiters and waitresses. It's a great place to bring family and walk around the outdoor mall or get some Salt & Straw ice cream afterwards!

Eli C.

Yelp
Food, Service, Ambiance, very good food. Quiet and nice. Soup was good, sushi was good. Waitress was very nice

Yelp
Good service, friendly staff, the sashimi is fresh. 30% happy hour deal is not to miss but the free ice cream is not worthy at all.
google avatar

Kortney O.

Yelp
Fabulous sushi - exotic treats like monkfish liver and spicy mackerel (featured in photo)!! Hip music and a kind, service forward, educated staff make the ambiance perfect for a date or dinner with friends!! Highly recommend!. Chef Sam and Justin are highly skilled professionals with great senses of humor and they are willing to educate you about sushi!! Expect creative and beautiful sushi presentations and authentic, orgasmic cuisine!

Yelp
Came to this place on a whim when shopping and it was so good! Came during their happy hour and it wasn't too busy so service was quick and easy and the whole menu (excluding certain items) were 30% off. We sat at the bar and Sam was the Sushi Chef. He was so kind and friendly and gave a lot of good recommendations which made the experience even better. Definitely planning on coming back again!

Yelp
The food us great, with good quality ingredients. Style is part Japanese, part California. Service is friendly. Place is cozy and location is good.
google avatar

Ronna B.

Yelp
Fresh, tasty sushi and appetizers. We enjoyed the shrimp tempura, agedashi tofu and gyoza. Recommend for families or big groups.
google avatar

Suehee K.

Yelp
Good news! Happy hour promotion 40% discount. In addition, Sake 30% discount starts. Let's enjoy this coming winter with it.

Yelp
We found this nice Japanese restaurant on Yelp after coming from the Birch Aquarium and it was a good find for us. Google maps was a little confusing making us drive around in circles, but just go into the parking structure for One Paseo and it's close to North Italian and right next door to Salt & Straw. The whole plaza has a nice feel, is clean and is relatively new. The happy hour offers 30% of the whole menu, other than the alcohol. Everyone was very friendly, and the service was efficient and quick! We'll be back if we're in the area again.

R J.

Yelp
Food is great but they need more servers Saturday opening. Chirashi bowl is very well done. Salmon entree is also nicely presented.
google avatar

Shalini G.

Yelp
Finally returned because I was in the mood for sushi. The menu is big! So many choices I picked the Nigiri special which came with miso soup. I also ordered garlic Edamame (super delish and garlicky!) Finished with a FREE green tea ice cream (Yelp check in deal!) The sushi was all fresh and tasty. Service was great. Very friendly staff. Next time I want to try to order the Omakase... Bravo

Kristina M.

Yelp
My husband and I live down the street from here and come in all the time. The atmosphere is great, service is spectacular, sushi is delish, and happy hour deal is insane. Highly recommend!

Anya B.

Yelp
The team was very welcoming and attentive! They made excellent vegetarian rolls to accommodate my friend's dietary restrictions.
google avatar

Tran N.

Yelp
Good service. The sashimi was very fresh. My family love the Phillip Roll. Will come back soon!
google avatar

Richelle S.

Yelp
We were able to get seated right away when we came. The service was good. Parking is easy in the plaza too. Had the Washington roll which was ok. The salmon on it was a little chewy though. Chicken Katsu donburi was good! Toro sushi was pretty chewy. Wasn't a fan of the cuts we got. Didn't even come with fresh wasabi. Miso soup was good! Prices are a little higher than usual but it's in Del Mar so that's expected lol.
google avatar

Erilynn H.

Yelp
Fantastic food as always! Loved the La bamba roll, garlic albacore, hot night, and more- so good. With a group this time and still very quick getting the rolls out (cooked food took a bit longer but well worth it evidently). Can't pass up the happy hour deal too!
google avatar

Andy H.

Yelp
It's a decent sushi place in a good mall - not sure I would make a special trip to go out of my way unfortunately. The service was great and the atmosphere is as well, especially if you can get a seat over by the bar and the TVs to watch whatever sporting event is going on. The nice part is that there are some options for dessert afterwards like Salt & Straw. If you're going to go, I would suggest making it for happy hour to get the best deal!
google avatar

Caroline B.

Yelp
The vibe is really chill, and service was fast and friendly. We got 3 rolls and the mixed tempera and all of them were really good! I really liked the hot night roll, which had spicy tuna, tempera and was topped with masago. I'd recommend coming here with friends if you love a chill atmosphere

Aileen L.

Yelp
This is our second time coming for dinner and let me say 5 stars! The service was amazing both times. The servers and chefs both super nice. I appreciated their honest opinion and input when my husband and I had questions about certain rolls. The restaurant brought a friendly and comfortable vibe. It was very clean and organized. The food was indeed also super delicious and well crafted. They were very creative on how they presented the food. Super cute. Menu items : Mexican roll California roll Kuro ramen and added 2 shrimp tempura pieces
google avatar

Ben Carlos D.

Yelp
Um...I'm not sure what happened because I saw all these amazing reviews and had a not so amazing meal. To preface, I did order to-go since I had limited time. I ordered a 3 item combo with sashimi, California roll and katsu. The large portion given comparative to the price was amazing until I started to eat. Mizukiyama is like any standard Americanized sushi restaurant. The salad was alright. There's not much you ask of a side salad. The California roll, however, tasted like the same California roll from your local grocery store. I'm not talking about the Japanese grocers. The sashimi was also alright. They give you some thick cuts but overall, the fish didn't taste fresh. If anything it tasted like the Costco salmon sashimi TikTok hack and fresh-frozen tuna. The topping to my bad experience was katsu so thin I was just eating breading. I'm not sure if they beat their katsu to death for texture but when you do it to where there's no pork loin...it kind of defeats the purpose. Maybe the pork was thin to start with? I'd love to give them a higher review but I can't even convince myself that the food I had was acceptable even by Japanese-American standards.

Yelp
Always a pleasure coming back. Something new we tried was the agadashi tofu + awesome roll and they were delicious! Will keep coming back (:
