I am new to the whole sushi game as I recently outgrew my allergy to fish (still allergic to shellfish though) - And I am obsessed! I've tried a few new places since I've been able to indulge and Mizukiyama has quickly become one of my favorites.
Located in Del Mar at One Paseo, you do not need to worry about parking as there are two large parking structures in the plaza. Rates for parking have recently changed so be advised before visiting.
The service at Mizukiyama is top notch - From the second you walk in, to the minute you leave, every single person is providing service with a smile. On our last visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Sam, the new head chef, and he is an absolute gem! He added an extra touch of excitement to our meal as we sat and enjoyed a wonderful conversation as he whipped us up some delicious eats! Shout out to Sam!
Since I still cannot have shellfish, my options are a bit limited, but trust me, you will not have an issue finding something that suits your palate. First, if there are Shishito Peppers on the menu, you bet that I am ordering these - Perfectly pan fried and topped with Garlic, Soy Sauce and Red Peppers - My favorite appetizer! A close second is the Garlic Edamame or the Chicken & Veggie Gyoza. Now that I'm hooked, I will never say no to a Philadelphia Roll - Crafted with White Rice, Avocado and Cream Cheese with a Beautiful (and generous) slice of Salmon on top - Add a swirl of Wasabi and Soy Sauce and you have yourself the perfect bite! Next up is the Yellowtail Special Roll - Yellowtail and Cucumber inside the roll with a fresh slice of Yellowtail, Jalapeno and Sriracha on top - Nice little kick if you enjoy some spice! If you're going to go for a third Roll, it should be the T.N.T - Spicy Tuna, Cucumber and Green Onion inside topped with a lovely piece of Seared Tuna and Pickled Onion - Perfection! And you cannot go wrong with the 2-piece Fresh Water Eel!
Dine in, take out or order for delivery! Lucky for me.. it's within walking distance!
