21 Best Bars in Tokyo, from Hotel Lounges to a Tequila Speakeasy | Condé Nast Traveler

"Sake is on the menu at Gem (pronounced "gem," as in jewel), a counter-only specialist in between Ebisu and Hiroo. The space is calming and uncluttered, softly illuminated by cute and quirky miss-matched glass lamps. Messages in black ink from brewery owners and sake personalities cover the bar’s white walls. Marie Chiba pours brews for the laid-back after-five crowd from her favorite boutique producers, which on a recent visit included Senkin and Jikon." - Melinda Joe

I haven’t been much of a sake person, but I realize that it’s likely because I haven’t tried ones that match my preferences, so I decided to go somewhere that the staff could provide guidance. This was definitely the place if you want to try sake! They first gave a pair of sakes that we tried with food, and based on what we did and did not like, they brought out two more that were really excellent. We will be seeking out a bottle of our favorite. The food is also outstanding. If you like the flavor of crab or lobster dipped in butter, try the crab butter brûlée. It was not what I was expecting, but it was phenomenal.

Exceptional service alongside meticulously prepared dishes and a great selection of sake. Went to this restaurant by recommendation and it did not disappoint. Whatever individual preferences for sake we had they were able to find the perfect one for us. Definitely need to book ahead to make sure you get one of the few seatings available.

I spontaneously made a reservation here for an early dinner upon our arrival in Tokyo, and it unexpectedly became one of our favorite spots during our visit to the city. Mizunotori is a stylish and modern local restaurant, but securing a table in advance is a must due to its extremely limited seating capacity of about fifteen people. If you're fortunate enough to secure a seat, the food and sake is worthwhile. Despite a considerable language barrier between English and Japanese, the staff went to great lengths to communicate with us and patiently explained the ingredients in each dish. Their warm hospitality was some of the friendliest we’ve witnessed in the city. The menu consists of small plates available à la carte, and with the sake pairings, we found ourselves staying late and ordering more dishes. If you're seeking an authentic Tokyo small business experience while immersing yourself in the local culture with exceptional food, this spot is an absolute must-visit.

Great sake bar with small plates. All the food was excellent; I found one outstanding sake, whilst the others were all good, bar the lumpy white one offered as an accompaniment to the ham and walnut surrounded potato. I’d vote to give that a miss.

Best meal in Tokyo so far. The staff was attentive, highly skilled, and understood their craft deeply. We felt welcomed as tourists and the chef talked us through all the dishes as well as the sake pairings which were unique and delicious. We would definitely come back.

Reserved through google, was a bit afraid the reservation won’t hold, but all went good. Got great assorted sashimi with matching sake, nice deep fried shrimp, tasty beef. Highly recommend

Amazing place! The food was wonderful and unique. However for the prices it is more on the expensive side. The sake selection is great and the best part was the crab crem brûlée! I wish they at least filled the small bowl to the top. It was unfortunately small. The staff was nice.

What can I say - creative, delicious and clear tastes, paired impeccably with rice wine. Brilliant place and the friendlies of staff create an atmosphere where everyone (foreigner and local alike) start chatting in one big room. Recommended for a date, dinner and occasion.
