The 22 Best Restaurants in Malmö, Sweden | Eater

"The crowd? A slightly awkward mix of millenials and tourists. Look past the party vibe in the lobby (unless it’s your thing) to discover something quite enchanting. While a hotel restaurant is generally a hard sell in these parts, MJ’S head chef, Frida Nilsson, consistently cooks up wildly original dishes, relentlessly mixing world cuisines and disparate references, and earning herself a reputation as one of Sweden’s leading young chefs in the process. The cauliflower with pickled green tomatoes, cilantro seeds, and lobster foam is as good as the beautiful fried pumpkin with habanero, pomegranate, and local Alp cheese. The wine list is astonishingly deep and mostly natural. Even better, it will not break the bank. Look out for the guest chef series on Sundays, when Nilsson invites some of the country’s best cooks behind the stove. [$$]" - Alisa Larsen

Had the best stay at this hotel, perfect location, comfortable room, lovely interiors, and a beautiful area for breakfast with great food. We loved using the sauna (included in your stay). We can’t recommend the hotel enough!

Honestly, I cannot speak highly enough of MJ's and my experience there. For one, it is a lovely hotel with stylish comfortable rooms and a great breakfast in a good location, but what really set it apart was the care and attention to detail of the staff. I emailed in advance about it being my girlfriend's birthday during our stay, and they went the extra mile to make it special. I would 100% stay there again and I would 100% recommend to friends, family or anyone else considering staying there!

Great hotel location, walking distance from train station and very close to Malmö city center. Amazing choice for breakfast in very nice looking restaurant. Definitely a great choice of hotel to stay in Malmö with very unique style.

This quirky old hotel with its pink flamingo theme was a delight to stay in. We stayed in the largest room, a corner room with multiple windows facing in two directions on the top floor, room 402. It had a king size 4 poster bed, a living area with capacious and comfortable couch and chairs, and a spacious, pristine bathroom. A small wardrobe easily accommodated our hanging clothing, but there was not much space for other clothes.||In addition to photos of 402, I took a photo of rooms 406 and of 407 (while housekeeping was making up the rooms) - I will attach them to this review; they will be single room pics at the end in that order. ||The bar area is warm and inviting, and the breakfast room is the most charming we have ever seen. The breakfast offered fantastic variety, with all foods properly labelled to avoid allergies – without a doubt, the best of all of the 5-star hotels we stayed in on this trip.||The hotel’s location was exquisite – quiet at night (if you get a room far from the bar downstairs) but in the heart of the old town within walking distance to the most popular sites. We put on 25,000 steps in our one full day in Malmo, and saw most of the key sites. Malmo surprised us with its old-world charm and friendliness on the one hand, and its progressive, innovative vibe on the other.||The shortcomings in this hotel were: 1. The early checkout, time of 11 AM (most hotels of this calibre allow check out at noon); 2. The lack of face cloths in the bathroom, not unusual for European hotels, but inconvenient (we brought our own); and 3. The lack of telephones in the rooms - we had to get dressed and go to the reception to ask even the simplest and shortest of questions. Those shortcomings are the reason for my 4 star rating.||Overall, the positives outweighed the shortcomings by a wide margin, and we would recommend this hotel.

The rooms are nice, clean and spacious. The location is superb, but you absolutely have to earn your customers that this hotel transforms into a nightclub in the weekend evenings, with the risk of keeping you awake until past 1 in the night. We had requested a quiet room, but we got a room on the ground floor with the extremely loud music keeping us awake, when we wanted to sleep. If it was coming from another nightclub or something not in this hotels control it would be understandable, but it felt particularly bad being kept awake by your own host. We had a super friendly interaction with the staff afterwards, who refunded us a night for our inconvenience. Hoping to stay again and update our review in the future <3

I came in this hotel for lunch. The food is very good. With the dagen lunch the main course was served with salad & focaccia and coffee & sweet bakery.

A lovely boutique hotel right in the middle of the old part of downtown. Very quirky decor but it really has its style. Incredibly friendly staff. Our room was among the smallest (the booking allows you to choose based on room size), facing the backstreet. It was cosy and comfortable, and I had a really good night’s sleep. The breakfast was really amazing, including the bread coming from next door’s specialty store Ruth’s. All in all, it is hard to ask for more!

At first everything seemed good, but after a while some smaller things and one bigger one started to annoy. We never learned how to use the air-conditioning, there were no instructions and the room started to feel freezing. Then there was no level to put your things in the bathroom, so toilet bags had to be kept on the floor. There was also no safe to keep your valuables in. But the worst thing was that the room was not cleaned at all! I think at least the trash bins should be emptied daily (only one tiny bin in the bathroom) and also check if customers would like to have new clean towels. After two nights we placed the hand towels on the floor and as we returned in the evening there they still were and nothing was cleaned. We had to pick them up and continue using... This was the point we decided to share our thoughts in the reception. They said that the rooms are only cleaned if customer requests. This was not mentioned in the web pages (I think this kind of information should be mentioned beforehand in the room descriptions) nor while we checked in. This was extremely disappointing and we will never come back or recommend the hotel to anyone.

Yelp
MJ's is cool, no doubt. We loved the vibe and the food. The downsides are that they don't have air conditioning, the lobby turns into a busy bar with DJ at night, and they have inappropriate sexual photos in the hall and rooms if you are bringing children. I would stay here again on a couple's outing. Not for families.

Yelp
If you want fun, colorful spaces, a hopping bar, cozy fireplace and softly glowing candles set to the sway of music, this could be your spot. We arrived on a Friday evening and the joint was jumping. It's a little confusing when you come in, because you enter into a bustling bar, people everywhere and then finally figure out that a small stand at the end of the bar is where to check in. There wasn't enough seating in the bar when we arrived, so we came back later. There is a restaurant around the back, as well as the elevators/ stairs to get to rooms. We did an upgraded room with the seating area, so it was huge with fun decor. Something I'd never seen before is the double doors. And I don't mean like French doors. I mean you unlock one door and then there is another door. Because out in the hall, there is often fairly loud music playing, so with both doors, and the rest of how it is designed, it's almost sound proof. You hear more through the windows than the door to the hall. I almost left 3 stars because of the bathroom. No curtain, it is a bathtub shower and so the floor and everywhere else seems to get wet. Also there is a fun flamingo in the bathroom on the counter, but he is bolted down, so it was a little in the way for a couple people trying to share counter space with all bathroom items. Nice enough staff, but we are also still trying to figure out about an unwarranted charge that we couldn't get figured out on our way out the door--especially since the early morning guy did not speak English. Everyone else seemed to.
