Google
Ok well hm 🤔 I thought it was a Mexican restaurant, but honestly, it's not. It looks like it's been around for a while. The chips are too burned. The guacamole was brown, and they don't have Sprite or coke products yuck. My friends ordered the fish sandwich, but everything on the table was too greasy. I mean, literally everything. So I didn't eat anything at all, only drank water. Im being honest, in my opinion 🤷 I mean look at the photos all the food stayed. Sorry

Google
Looking for somewhere to eat and found this restaurant near me. Service was excellent. The fish and shrimp were very good. The onion rings were delicious. My hamburger was dry, lack flavor and generally not good. Probably won't be back.

Google
Classic SA experience, good food, great service, always a good time! Don't miss the iconic schooners. The seafood platter was decent, but I found the tarter a bit sweet. Chicken fried steak is hard to beat. Only place I know with a small, medium, and large Mexican plate.

Paul T.

Google
This place has been around since my Mom was young. She and I love this restaurant. Everybody was friendly, and the service was exceptional. Our waitress name was Mary and has been there for over 16 yrs! The food was delicious and the tea was so good! I highly recommend this as a local.

Google
Flavor: A Service: C Tea: A Solo dining: A Found this place on a list of best chicken fried steaks in San Antonio. Those lists are hard to trust but in this case the spot on the list is well deserved. Licking an envelope has more flavor than so many chicken fried steaks in San Antonio, but not this one. They’ve actually well seasoned the meat, the batter, and the gravy. The breading sticks to the steak. The potatoes are homemade. The salad (particularly the nearly-ready-to-throw-out lettuce) was disappointing and our server didn’t make it by often, but all else was a win for this place. So I’ll be back!

Google
Dropped in on this place after hearing about it on Facebook. We were not disappointed, the onion rings were excellent! Both the chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken was tasty and large. The gravy had a very good flavor. Nice atmosphere and the Wait staff was very attentive. I would like to return and try the Mexican platters.

Ricardo C.

Google
Quality is impeccable! Delicious! We had a fried chicken steak and fried chicken breast! Both were hot and crispy! Will definitely return!

Google
If I could give no stars I would. We waited for over 1.5 hours for a table while people around us got seated. Instead of trying to figure out seating they said the table they had for us was still occupied if we liked to walk around and look. How is that good customer service that I have to walk around and look for a table. Another party that was there just as long ended up leaving as did part of our party. This in my opinion is horrible customer service. If u have a party of more than 4 dont go here you will wait shorter times at a steak house I've never even waited that long at restaurants downtown.

Yelp
Yummy!! We came in for an early lunch and the staff was super welcoming. Our server was awesome she recommended a few items and some nice cold drinks. I ordered a chicken fried steak with a small side salad and a nice cold beer. The scooners are cold and will keep your drink nice and cold to the last drop. I loved the fact they have a jukebox that plays some cool music. If you're in the area MK Davis is a place to enjoy Sunday lunch with the family or just a friend.
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
This is a classic restaurant in San Antonio. The music and is great. We started with the chips and salsa. I ordered the 3 piece fried chicken meal. The chicken was freshly fried. It was very flavorful and juicy.

Yelp
Came with family for lunch on 19DEC24. I was really looking forward to visiting MK Davis, but given the overall reviews , as well as my own recent experience, it'll be awhile before I return. Our server Jada met us with a short attitude that immediately let us know we would be tolerated minimally and that's it. No welcome/greeting, barely in our seats before asking "do you know what y'all want?" Also, open-toed sandals, which I thought were a health code violation ‍ While our orders were written down, gravy on the side request was ignored, salad dressing missing and we weren't checked on during the 25min wait for fried chicken to come out. Once food came out I noticed the cold salad was put on the hot plate, but I quickly realized that's because the food wasn't hot and fortunately covered in cold gravy. Green beans were fresh out of a can, salad was room temp and brown edges, meat loaf and potatoes were just above room temp. When individual salad dressings were brought out, we were one short which was realized but I already knew customer service was long gone. I sipped my 1 soda slowly, as did the rest of the table, since the opportunity to request a refill never came up. During the course of our meal we were not checked on.

Yelp
M.K. Davis is a staple dinner spot that never disappoints. Service is always good here, quick to get orders out as well. The crispy dogs and bean and cheese nachos are both great standout starters. The chicken fried chicken was impressive, and their fish plates are always satisfying. The music selection is consistently great and one can always rely on enjoying a cold beer or sangria in their ice-cold schooner mugs. Give them a try
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
The fish never disappoints! I love this place, come hungry and leave more than satisfied. Always recommend this place!

Yelp
Very bar-esque style restaurant! Super cool ambiance with good music, and great service. Highly recommend the onion rings, chicken fried steak and hamburger steak. Great prices as well
google avatar

Yelp
I have been a fan of this place for a long time. My go to order has been the chicken fried steak. The service has always been fine and the place has lots of comfortable seating. Recently we went and I ordered the fisherman's platter. I will not do that again. It was not very good. I also understand inflation but the prices went up so much. I do not see myself going back very often.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 35 years. My dad was friends with the founder. His daughter and I both attended the same high school, and it's been a go to since forever. Crispy dogs are a must-have! If you're a beer drinker, an ice-cold schooner is the buzz. Whether you order chicken fried steak, hamburger steak, the Pollock, or Mexican food, you can't go wrong. The mashed potatoes are so delicious and green beans, too. Parking is plentiful across the street, too. Expect a wait, especially after 5. It used to be a lounge, with its richly papered walls, and they still have a bar area with seating. It's very nostalgic for me. Must visit at some point if you are in SA.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this legendary downtown San Antonio dive for years. Actual years. It's embarrassing, really, that this was my first time here. But I'm really happy to share that after all these years, and after all the stories, this place lived up to the hype. Is it trendy? Nope. Do they have crazy craft beers? I don't think so. But is it cozy? Yes! Is the service personal and attentive? Heck yes. Most importantly: is the food good? The food was *so* good. Good food, good service, and at a fair price - this place is a hidden gem busting at the seams with value. I took a leap of faith and opted for the special of the day (it was roast beef). It comes with two sides and a salad (and a drink) FOR $10. You can't beat that. I asked for double salad and just one side (the green beans). Dang, did I make the wrong choice! The green beans were *excellent*. I should have doubled down on those bad boys. Don't get me wrong, the salad was good, especially with their house-made ranch dressing, but those green beans were just the right amount of peppery that made you wish there was an endless supply on your plate. The gravy on the roast beef was a nice touch. What's it made out of? No clue. Did I wish I had a cup of it to drink? Absolutely. I'll be back to try the stuff that this place is known for!

Yelp
Poor Service at the Bar these youg kids don't have a clue about Customer Service. There is no control, there is no control of the associates. The Manager sits behind the Register! There is no use on putting your name on the list because everyone just sits when they want too! Horrible Experience, we just walked out!!
google avatar

Yolanda C.

Yelp
This business has been in SA for many years and they continue to do it right! They are always busy so arrive early. I started with a Sangria. Then order some nachos compuestos. The main entree was the friend chicken. I feel they have the best fried chicken in town. You just have to allow plenty of time for them to cook it fresh!! Nice music playing on the jukebox, lively crowd.

Barry S.

Yelp
Great food. Great service excellent beer wonderful service. Great inside and out nice environment. Ho sn try it.
google avatar

Mari A.

Yelp
Absolutely a San Antonio staple. Everyone and everything is on point here! Come check them out for yourself!

Yelp
Have come here for many, many years as it's been a staple not only to the city, but very near and dear to the hearts of my family but I'll be honest, the quality has completely gone down, especially in the fried foods. Onion rings breading fell off entirely and we had to pick up the onion and the breading together to eat. The chicken fried chicken had a soggy bottom and the top came right off and sat on the plate while I just ate a breadingless chicken cutlet. My son ordered boneless wings that were so soggy they were inedible. Gave 2 stars because the beer is cold and the staff is friendly.

Yelp
A San Anto original been coming here off and on all my life!!!! Usually settle at the bar for those huge schooners!!!

Yelp
Food was very good I had the fried chicken. Fried perfectly. Outside crispy. Inside moist and juicy. Could have used more seasoning. Beer was cold. Service was OK.

Yelp
Many many many (not showing my age) yrs ago our little office group had lunch there 2 times a week....great memories Now back in the area and working nearby just hadda go, in fact, multiple times in the last few weeks. FANTASTIC !! Chicken fried steak, creamy gravy, lotsa fries and a side salad (ALWAYS get an xtra plate to move the salad to)....YUK don't want gravy on my lettuce HOT and crispy Texas toast in its own special basket Lunch: 13.29 = 9.49 + sweet tea...BAM BAM Yes, it's kinda alot for lunch, but it's a treat one deserves once in awhile Every time of late the waitress has been PERFECT, fast, personable and sometimes really cute :) NOTE: they do need to learn what "sweet tea" is, as sometimes you have to add sugar I JUST LOVE THIS PLACE !!!

Yelp
Very horrible customer service. Lady, didn't get her name, was so very rude brought us our drinks 1 by 1. and my daughters Dr. Pepper was hotter than hot. She took our appetizer order and never came back to take our actual order. When we were finally able to flag her down she said and I quote " What do you want". Really, come on now. The restaurant was not even busy. It took them 5 min to seat us, time was around 3:30-3:45 in the afternoon. So, we proceeded to ask for a manager and another lady, which I believe she was the manager, said hold on went to the bar and when she saw that we were getting up then she said what do you need. Horrible, Horrible. I have frequented this establishment several times over the years and have never had such a problem as I did today.

Terri G.

Yelp
We ordered a Chicken Fried Steak was cooked & made with too much sodium. The Chicken Fried steak was really hard and non tender thus , hard to cut especially with the butter knives and over salty from the batter and that is not to say how the gravy Tasted. Over salty as all...too much sodium and unhealthy . As I got home proceeded to have to take a water pill because it affected my ankles. The service at first started out good. We went from bad service really fast. Then the waitress got lost.... I had to run up & get my take out utensil and then bags to place my left over food. They never served us with right utensils they served us butter knives they were not steak knives. You would think with the food cost they could afford steak knives...Furthermore , the food and service was lousy, very unprofessional, and inappropriate. When I got home , I realized that I had walked out without getting a receipt and did not noticed until I got home...However, I have decided that I will never go back and eat at MK Davis their or giving a receipt, including the knives choice, their service , unhealthy food for being overly salty and wait staff that would not follow up and check on their. customers...are below average from any restaurant with my standards for satisfactory for me to waste my money nor time because there is no nutrition in "Salty Food" to bring me back to ever eat one more time to MK David Restaurant and Bar in San Antonio to eat.

Joe R.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. The food is excellent. Plenty of parking. I try not to eat here on the weekend. Fri. and sat. Service is great. Don't come as often as I'd like to but if I could I would.
google avatar

Raul Q.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday after church cause I wanted chicken fried steak. The hostess was very accommodating to our needs and practically let us pick a table. Older restaurant with a decent-sized bar, with a crowd already. Didn't get appetizers but we ordered a chicken fried steak with fries and a fried chicken plate. The chicken fried steak was decent size and well breaded but it seemed as though it was not cooked all the way. The inside of the breading was still kind of wet and soggy. The meat was cooked but the inside of the breading was either undercooked or just plain soggy from the meat. The fried chicken was a nice size and fried perfectly, still juicy on the inside. Not sure I would return but who knows maybe we just ordered the wrong thing or the cook was off his game.

Yelp
A group of friends and I stopped here for dinner at the recommendation of a colleague. This locals' favorite is definitely a well-known and well-loved place to grab a meal. It is a no frills, mom-and-pop type of restaurant. Prices are right and service is good. However, the food was just ok. I ordered a cheeseburger and onion rings. I was expecting more of a homemade kind of burger. This one seemed to be made from a frozen patty. The onion rings were good. The extra crispy coating and seasoning really gave them a little something extra. Although I don't drink beer, they have some HUGE glasses here that looked incredibly refreshing on a hot day!

Cindy P.

Yelp
Saw reviews and decided to give this place a try! This was our best meal in San Antonio!! Delicious fried chicken and awesome onion rings!! Doesn't look like much on the outside but the food is fantastic!
google avatar

Jaime L.

Yelp
Got the bean and cheese nachos. It was a large group order and my nachos were forgotten. However, they did remake and give me the one left behind. Unfortunately, the person having to go back to the restaurant had to come back and eat his food cold. The nachos were ok. Nothing fabulous, plain bean, cheese, and jalapeños on the side. No salsa. From others in my party: do not get the steak - it was ordered medium and was very well done (said it was the worst he ever had), the chicken fried steak was delicious, but the overall favorite was the fried chicken all white meat. Large pieces, perfect combo of breading to meat, and delicious.
google avatar

Rebekah C.

Yelp
Country Fried Chicken plate was excellent. Our waitress Charlotte was efficient and took good care of us without fawning or making us feel rushed. Our party was approximately 40 people.
google avatar

Samuel R.

Yelp
Great food excellent service nice cold schooners I've come here a lot and always try a different plate and they're all good

Pistol P.

Yelp
This place is horrible. It probably used to be good back in the day, but quality is extremely poor. Go there for their lunch specials and they're out, so I have to choose something else and that was crappy as hell. If you want good food, you will definitely not find it here.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Met for lunch with a group of around 15. They were able to sit us in an enclosed area, which was good for us. The staff handled the group easily, drink orders were always checked. A good menu selection, burgers, fish and steak. The food was good, serviced quickly for a large group. Closing out tabs went easy. Cool place to check out.

Oswaldo P.

Yelp
This place has been open for many years. Since the COVID menu has changed and some of their prices has increased. I saw the crispy dogs went from a little over $5 dollars go to $9 dollars. I use to always get them now I only go from time to time when my invite. I now get them at Rays Drive-in they have the same taste and price is so much cheaper.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
Food is always good. Service was really good the day I visited. There is normally a wait at this establishment since it's a well known place.
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
Food was good but service was the best. No liquor only wine and beer. Beer comes in scooners which is cool. The tacos were not greasy and fish platter was well done.
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
What can I say, been going to MKD's since I was a 17 years old Air Force Brat transplant from Alabama-"Roll Tide"! And those huge ice-cold schooners, hit the spot every time. Chicken fried steak dinner is the best in all the city, that I know of I enjoy the bar scene, on Friday night and then some evenings my ex-wife didn't know about. Service is top-notch as long as they know, you're a big tipper, don't still live at home. Own your vehicles and is good-looking to boot!

Gerry T.

Yelp
This place has its great reputation and doesn't need my review. Just giving a tip. I miss the old Casbeers on Blanco who had the best trucker style enchiladas and toast. So now I get them at MK. Order a plate of enchiladas with no rice or beans and a couple pieces of buttery Texas toast to sop up that enchilada gravy/chili.

Sylvia L.

Yelp
Seating for party of 6 not all present. Have to wait for all parties to be present to be seated. Asked to sit at bar since I cannot stand very long. Food was OK, service was so so. Servers acted annoyed because we had 2 more added to party. Not enough plates for appetizers. Schoolers were not as ordered size wise. Table was left without emptied plates and glasses being removed.
google avatar

Jesus C.

Yelp
Just a good ol place to have some food and scooners. Had the burger and fish plate. Both were good, washed them down with our bar drinks. Waitress was friendly and the place was so clean. Two
google avatar

Jaime M.

Yelp
This was on a Thursday, so not a lot of a crowd. We were a party of approximately 16 and were seated quickly. The server was friendly and good. Wife and I ordered the fish burger, expecting it to be good, but unfortunately, the Filet-O-Fish at McDonald's is probably better than the fish burger here. I was expecting better. I am not one to send food back, so we ate. More like vegetable burger, because they sure give u a lot of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions with the tiny piece of fish.
google avatar

Teofila R.

Yelp
We were seated by a dirty dish tray holder. We didn't appreciate the noise when staff kept dumping dirty dishes in the rack. We ordered fried onion rings. They were not right out of the fryer. The batter kept falling off every time we picked one up. I did like the baked chicken special. My partner enjoyed the fish plate lunch special. We truly enjoyed the 32 oz schooners cog beet. Our waitress was nice and attentive.
google avatar

George R.

Yelp
A very popular spot, we luckily came in on a rainy day and got in fast! We both ordered the fisherman's platter. Consists of onion rings , fish, fried oysters, salad, stuffed crab and toast. I liked it! The service and food amazing. Do I recommend, yes. Come and stuff your face! Very affordable!
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
Been here multiple times, every time the service and food are good. The onion rings are up there as well. Today was the first time trying a 'Tex mex/ Mexican platter and it was not as great as the 'American food' here. The flour tortillas are packaged. I will stick with the American menu from here on out. This is a San Antonio staple so you should most definitely give it a shot. They have a great alcohol menu if that's your thing. Didn't get them this time around, but the crispy dogs are an a plus as well too.

Yelp
Stopped in to meet an old friend for lunch at this SA favorite that brings back allot of memories. Each time it's a struggle to pick the lunch special I want...will it be the pollock, or the soft chicken tacos or the chicken fried steak? I usually go with the Alaskan pollock but this time I'm going with the soft chicken tacos and a schooner of Dos XX. The best thing about MKs is the consistent look and feel of the restaurant vibe and taste of the food over the years. It never gets old. Once the food came out I dug right in. The shredded chicken inside the taco (enchilada) was nice and moist with a light seasoning. The ranchero sauce poured over the top of the corn tortilla was light ant not too spicy with a little twang. It's tasted the same for over the 30 years I've been coming here. The accompanying rice was light and moist but not too sticky; the beans were solid and had a good flavor. Overall, this was another solid meal at a solid price. The consistency of the food has kept me coming back for years and will continue to do so. If you haven't been here then give it a try and get some real good comfort food.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
A true dog and pony show here. We arrived at 3:30pm in the afternoon and had to wait in line because the hostess couldn't figure out how to seat people despite numerous open tables. The elderly couple in front of us were hassled about seating and told they needed to wait outside if they didn't want a both; keep in mind it was upper 90s out and the woman was struggling to stand with a walker. Once it was our turn, a party of two, we were told 25-30 minutes and would need to wait outside. I could see on the list we were one of two names and the other was crossed out. I then pointed out several tables that were open and had rolled silverware and was told those aren't available. We ended up leaving due to this nonsense. The whole time we waited to get to the hostess there were numerous waiters and other employees just standing around. What kind of restaurant can't handle a party of 2 at 3:30pm with numerous open tables and staff literally standing around?
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
This place looks about like a family restaurant from the 1970's. They have great home style cooking and friendly staff. Prices are really cheap and they have a variety of home style dishes to choose from. Fish, chicken fried steak, tacos etc:.. a bit of everything.
google avatar

Mary Ann C.

Yelp
We heard great things about this place. Even friends said it was good and raving about it. The first attempt it was super packed. The person who took our name didn't tell us how long the wait and frankly didn't care as she walked off as soon she got the name and number as we weren't going to wait in the packed patio. It was an hour wait and by that time we were somewhere else. We went this morning. Waitress was nice. Wasn't packed at all. No wait time or wait what so ever. The food was a descent size but all of it was bland. Even with salt it didn't make an difference. It was still bland. I had got the chicken fried steak and I had better...much better than that and got a Mexican dish ... let's just say that was bland as well. You're Not missing anything if you dont try their food.

Mike C.

Yelp
The oysters are small and you only get 6 on a platter seafood is grossly over fried used to be a great restaurant in the seventy's and eighties
google avatar

Roel Kristy V.

Yelp
Gosh. I really didn't want to do this, but need to post an honest review about last nights experience here. First, we've eaten here a couple of times and had good food at good prices. Not this time. I don't know if there has been a change or if we just ordered the wrong items. Either way, we were disappointed. The positives: 32 oz schooners of beer for $6.00. Really good onion rings. Grilled chicken breast with guacamole and pico, and chicken fried steak- good! Service- pleasant and prompt. The ok- spicy hamburger steak with cheese. The not good at all- the seafood platter. Prefrozen and dry. Next time I will go back to the nachos or other Mexican food. Always been good.

Estephanie G.

Yelp
Waited a little while but we also had a party of 10. Food was great Drinks were really good as well

Celine W.

Yelp
Stopped here with a large party because they were able to accommodate us quickly. Service was good but food was so so. If you're looking for a place to hang and drink some big schooners then it's cool but not for the food.

Jessica D.

Yelp
Service was TERRIBLE our servers same was Clarissa. Do NOT ask for her. My family and I were there last Sunday, Clarrisa's service was already bad then, ignored us while she and another employee were screaming what sounded like the top of their lung to another employee. As a customer I do not want to see or hear that while my family and I were trying to eat. I do not recommend this place. On top of everything I did not see one manager address the situation happening but instead allowed the girls to scream at the poor employee. IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS. This place has a lack of respect, leadership and barely any decent customer service. I feel terrible for that poor employee that was getting screamed at because no one deserves to be talked to like that in their place of work. Do better MK Davis.
